Efežanom 4

1 Jaz torej, Gospodov jetnik, vas rotim, da živite vredno Božjemu pozivu, s katerim ste poklicani,

I exhort you, therefore, I, the prisoner in the Lord, to walk in a manner worthy of the calling wherewith ye were called: —

2 z vso ponižnostjo in krotkostjo, s potrpežljivostjo prenašajte drug drugega v ljubezni

With all lowliness and meekness, with long suffering, bearing one with another in love,

3 in prizadevajte si ohraniti enotnost Duha z vezjo miru.

Giving diligence to keep—the oneness of the Spirit in the uniting-bond of peace, —

4 Obstaja eno telo in en Duh, točno tako kot ste poklicani v enem upanju vaše poklicanosti;

One body, and one spirit, even as ye were also called in one hope of your calling,

5 en Gospod, ena vera, en krst,

One Lord, one faith, one immersion,

6 en Bog in Oče vseh, ki je nad vsemi in po vseh in v vas vseh.

One God and Father of all—who is over all, and through all, and in all.

7 Toda vsakomur izmed nas je dana milost glede na mero Kristusovega daru.

To each one of you, however, hath favour been given, according to the measure of the free-gift of the Christ;

8 Zatorej pravi: ›Ko se je povzpel gor na višavo, je odpeljal ujeto ujetništvo in dal darove ljudem.‹

Wherefore he saith—Ascending on high, he took captivity captive, [and] gave gifts unto men.

9 (Torej, da se je povzpel, kaj je to razen, da se je tudi najprej spustil v nižje dele zemlje?

Now this, He ascended; what is it, —save—that he also descended into the under parts of the earth?

10 On, ki se je spustil, je tudi isti, ki se je povzpel daleč nad vsa nebesa, da bi lahko izvršil vse stvari.)

He that descended, he, it is who also ascended over-above all the heavens, that he might fill all things;

11 In dal je nekatere apostole in nekatere preroke in nekatere evangeliste in nekatere pastirje in učitelje;

And, he, gave—some, indeed, to be apostles, and some, prophets, and some, evangelists, and some, shepherds and teachers, —

12 za izpopolnjevanje svetih, za delo služenja, za izgrajevanje Kristusovega telesa;

With a view to the fitting of the saints for the work of ministering, for an upbuilding of the body of the Christ;

13 dokler mi vsi ne pridemo k enotnosti vere in spoznanja Božjega Sina, do popolnega človeka, do mere postave Kristusove polnosti.

Until we all advance—into the oneness of the faith, and the personal knowledge of the Son of God, into a man of full-growth, into the measure of the stature of the fulness of the Christ;

14 Tako odslej ne bomo več otroci, premetavani sem ter tja in prenašani okoli z vsakim vetrom nauka, s človeško pretkanostjo in spretno prekanjenostjo, s čimer oni prežijo, da bi zavedli;

That we may, no longer, be infants—billow-tossed and shifted round with every wind of teaching, —in the craft of men, in knavery suited to the artifice of error;

15 temveč, ker govorimo resnico v ljubezni, lahko v vseh stvareh rastemo vanj, ki je glava, celó Kristus,

But, pursuing truth—may, in love, grow into him in all things, —who is the head, Christ, —

16 iz katerega celotno telo, primerno združeno skupaj in strnjeno s tem, kar vsak sklep oskrbuje, glede na dejavno delovanje po meri vsakega dela, omogoča rast telesa v izgrajevanje sebe v ljubezni.

Out of whom all the body—fitly framing itself together, and connecting itself, through means of every joint of supply, by way of energising in the measure of each single part—secureth the growing of the body, unto an upbuilding of itself in love.

17 To torej pravim in pričujem v Gospodu, da odslej ne živite, kakor živijo drugi pogani, v ničevosti svojega uma,

This, therefore, am I saying and protesting in the Lord: —that, no longer, ye walk even as, the nations, walk—in the vanity of their minds,

18 ki imajo zatemnjeno razumevanje, odtujeni so od Božjega življenja preko nevednosti, ki je v njih, zaradi slepote njihovega srca;

Being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God—by reason of the ignorance that existeth within them, by reason of their hearts being turned into stone,

19 ki so se prek svojega občutka predali v pohotnost, da s pohlepom počenjajo vso nečistost.

Who, indeed, having become past feeling, have delivered, themselves, up, with wantonness, unto making a trade of all impurity with greed.

20 Toda vi se niste tako učili Kristusa,

Ye, however, have, not thus, learned the Christ: —

21 če je tako, da ste ga slišali in ste bili po njem poučeni, kakor je resnica v Jezusu;

If, at least, it is, him, ye have heard, and, in him, ye have been taught—even as truth is in Jesus, —

22 da glede na prejšnje vedênje odložite starega človeka, ki je pokvarjen glede varljivih poželenj;

That ye were to strip off—as regardeth the former behaviour—the old man, who corrupteth himself according to his deceitful covetings,

23 in bodite obnovljeni v duhu svojega uma;

And were to be getting young again in the spirit of your mind,

24 in da si oblečete novega človeka, ki je po Bogu ustvarjen v pravičnosti in resnični svetosti.

And were to put on the man of new mould, who, after God, hath been created in his truthful righteousness and loving kindness.

25 Zatorej zavračajte laganje in vsak [naj] govori resnico s svojim bližnjim, kajti mi smo udje drug drugega.

Wherefore, stripping off what is false, be speaking truth each one with his neighbour, because we are members one of another;

26 Bodite jezni in ne grešite; sonce naj ne zaide nad vašim besom

Be ye angry, and not committing sin, let not the sun be going down upon your angry mood,

27 niti ne dajajte prostora hudiču.

Neither be giving place unto the adversary;

28 Kdor je kradel, naj ne krade več, temveč naj se raje trudi in s svojimi rokami dela stvar, ki je dobra, da bo imel [kaj] dati tistemu, ki potrebuje.

Let, the stealer, no more, steal, but rather let him be toiling, —working with his hands the thing that is good, that he may have [wherewith] to be giving away to him that hath need;

29 Nobenemu umazanemu govoru ne dopustite iziti iz svojih ust, temveč to, kar je dobro, v prid izgrajevanju, da lahko nudi milost poslušalcem.

Let, no putrid discourse, out of your mouth, be going forth, but if anything is good—suited to the needful upbuilding, —that it may give benefit unto them that hear;

30 In ne žalostite Božjega Svetega Duha, s katerim ste zapečateni za dan odkupitve.

And be not grieving the Holy Spirit of God, wherewith ye have been sealed unto a day of redemption;

31 Naj bo vsa grenkoba in bes in jeza in razgrajanje ter zlo govorjenje vzdignjeno od vas z vso zlobnostjo [vred];

All bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and outcry, and profane speaking, let it be taken away from you, with all baseness;

32 in bodite prijazni drug do drugega, nežnega srca, odpuščajoč drug drugemu, celó kakor je Bog zaradi Kristusa odpustil vam.

And be ye gracious one to another, tenderly affectionate, in favour forgiving one another—even as, God also, in Christ, hath in favour forgiven you;
