Apostolska dela 6

1 In v tistih dneh, ko je bilo število učencev pomnoženo, je nastalo mrmranje Grkov zoper Hebrejce, ker so bile njihove vdove zapostavljene pri vsakodnevni oskrbi.

But, in these days, the disciples, multiplying, there arose a murmuring of the Grecian Jews against the Hebrews, in that, their widows, were being overlooked in the daily ministry.

2 Potem je dvanajsterica k sebi poklicala množico učencev in rekla: »To ni razlog, da bi opuščali Božjo besedo in stregli [pri] mizah.

And the Twelve, calling near the throng of the disciples, said—It doth not seem, right, that, we, forsaking the word of God, should be ministering unto tables.

3 Zatorej bratje, poiščite med seboj sedem mož, na dobrem glasu, polnih Svetega Duha in modrosti, ki jim lahko določimo to opravilo.

But look out for yourselves, brethren, seven men from among you, who can be well-attested, full of Spirit and wisdom, —whom we will appoint over this need;

4 Toda mi se bomo predali v nenehno molitev in službo besede.«

But, we, unto prayer and unto the ministry of the word, will give constant attention.

5 In ta beseda je ugajala vsej množici. In izbrali so Štefana, moža, polnega vere in Svetega Duha in Filipa in Prohorja in Nikánorja in Timona in Parmenája ter Nikolaja, spreobrnjenca iz Antiohije,

And the word was pleasing in the sight of all the throng; and they selected Stephen, a man full of faith and Holy Spirit, and Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicholaus, a proselyte of Antioch;

6 ki jih so postavili pred apostole. In ko so molili, so nanje položili svoje roke.

Whom they set before the Apostles, and, praying, they laid upon them their hands.

7 In Božja beseda je rasla in število učencev v Jeruzalemu se je silno pomnožilo in velika skupina duhovnikov je bila pokorna veri.

And, the word of God, went on growing, and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem continued to multiply exceedingly; a great multitude of the priests also, were becoming obedient unto the faith.

8 In Štefan je, poln vere in moči, delal med ljudmi velike čudeže in čudežne moči.

Now, Stephen, full of favour and power, began to do great wonders and signs among the people.

9 Potem so vstali nekateri iz sinagoge, ki se je imenovala sinagoga Libertincev in Cirencev in Aleksandríncev in teh iz Kilikije ter iz Azije in so razpravljali s Štefanom.

But there rose up certain of those out of the synagogue which is called [the synagogue] of them of Libertium and Cyrene and Alexandria, and certain of them from Cilicia and Asia, —disputing with Stephen;

10 Niso pa se mogli upirati modrosti in duhu, po katerem je govoril.

And they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking,

11 Tedaj so podkupili može, ki so rekli: »Slišali smo ga govoriti bogokletne besede zoper Mojzesa in zoper Boga.«

Then, they set on men who were saying—We have heard him speaking profane things against Moses and God.

12 In razvneli so ljudi in starešine ter pisarje in prišli nad njega in ga zgrabili ter ga privedli k vélikemu zboru

And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes; and, coming upon him, they caught him away, and led him into the high-council.

13 in postavili krive priče, ki so rekle: »Ta človek ne preneha govoriti bogokletnih besed proti temu svetemu prostoru in postavi,

And they set up false witnesses, who said—This man, ceaseth not speaking things against this holy place and the law;

14 kajti slišali smo ga govoriti, da bo ta Jezus Nazarečan uničil ta kraj in spremenil običaje, ki nam jih je izročil Mojzes.«

For we have heard him saying—This Jesus the Nazarene, will overthrow this place, and will change the customs which, Moses, delivered unto us.

15 In vsi, ki so sedeli v vélikem zboru, so neomajno zrli vanj in videli njegov obraz, kot bi bil obraz angela.

And, looking steadfastly at him, all they who were sitting in the high-council, saw his face, as if the face of a messenger;
