2 Timoteju 2
1 Ti torej, moj sin, bodi močan v milosti, ki je v Kristusu Jezusu.
Thou, therefore, my child, be empowering thyself in the favour that is in Christ Jesus,
2 Stvari pa, ki si jih med mnogimi pričami slišal od mene, iste izroči zvestim ljudem, ki bodo zmožni tudi druge poučiti.
And, the things which thou hast heard from me among many witnesses, the same, entrust thou unto faithful men, such as shall be, competent, to teach, others also.
3 Ti torej prenašaj trdoto kot dober vojak Jezusa Kristusa.
Take thy part in suffering hardship, as a brave soldier of Christ Jesus: —
4 Noben človek, ki se bojuje, se ne zapleta z zadevami tega življenja, da lahko ugodi njemu, ki ga je izbral, da bi bil vojak.
No one that is serving as a soldier, entangleth himself with the matters of his livelihood, that he may please him that hath summoned him to serve as a soldier;
5 In če si človek prav tako prizadeva za zmago, kljub temu ni okronan, razen če si ne prizadeva zakonito.
If, moreover, any man, contend even in the games, he is not crowned, unless, lawfully, he contend;
6 Poljedelec, ki dela, mora biti prvi udeleženec sadov.
The toiling husbandman, ought, first, of the fruits, to partake:
7 Preudari, kar pravim in Gospod naj ti da razumevanje v vseh stvareh.
Think, as to what I am speaking; for the Lord will give thee discernment in all things.
8 Spominjaj se, da je bil Jezus Kristus, iz Davidovega semena, obujen od mrtvih glede na moj evangelij,
Keep in mind Jesus Christ—raised from among the dead, of the seed of David, —according to my joyful message:
9 za katerega prenašam stisko kakor hudodelec, celó do vezi; toda Gospodova beseda ni zvezana.
In which I am suffering hardship, even unto bonds, as an evil-doer; but, the word of God, is not bound.
10 Zato zaradi izvoljenih prenašam vse stvari, da bi lahko tudi oni dosegli rešitev duš, ki je v Kristusu Jezusu z večno slavo. (aiōnios g166)
For this cause, am I enduring, all things, for the sake of the chosen, in order that, they also, may obtain, the salvation, which is in Christ Jesus along with glory age-abiding. (aiōnios g166)
11 To je zvest izrek: ›Kajti če smo z njim umrli, bomo z njim tudi živeli.
Faithful, the saying—for, If we have died together, we shall also live together,
12 Če trpimo, bomo z njim tudi kraljevali. Če ga zatajimo, nas bo tudi on zatajil.
If we endure, we shall also reign together; If we shall deny, he also, will deny us,
13 Če ne verujemo, vendar on ostaja zvest; sebe ne more zatajiti.‹
If we are faithless, he, faithful, abideth, —for, deny himself, he cannot!
14 Spominjaj jih o teh stvareh in naročaj jim pred Gospodom, da se ne pričkajo glede besed, kar ne koristi, temveč spodkopava poslušalce.
Of these things, be putting [them] in remembrance, adjuring [them] before God not to be waging word-battles, —useful, for nothing, occasioning a subversion of them that hearken.
15 Prizadevaj si, da se pokažeš potrjenega Bogu, delavca, ki se mu ni treba sramovati, ki pravilno razdeljuje besedo resnice.
Give diligence, thyself, approved, to present unto God, —a workman not to be put to shame, skillfully handling the word of truth.
16 Toda izogibaj se oskrunjenih in praznih blebetanj, ker se bodo okrepila k večji brezbožnosti.
But, the profane pratings, shun; for, unto more ungodliness, will they force themselves on;
17 In njihova beseda bo razjedala kakor rak; izmed katerih sta Himénaj in Filét,
And, their discourse, as a gangrene, will eat its way; —of whom are Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18 ki sta zašla glede resnice, rekoč, da je vstajenje že minilo; in zrušila vero nekaterih.
Men who, concerning the truth, have erred, affirming, a resurrection, already, to have taken place, and are overthrowing the faith, of some.
19 Kljub temu Božji temelj trdno stoji in ima ta pečat: »Gospod pozna te, ki so njegovi.« In: »Naj se vsak, kdor imenuje Kristusovo ime, odreče krivičnosti.«
Howbeit, the firm foundation of God, standeth, having this seal—The Lord hath acknowledged them who are his, and, Let every one that nameth the name of the Lord stand aloof from unrighteousness.
20 Toda v veliki hiši niso samo posode iz zlata in iz srebra, temveč tudi iz lesa in iz ila; in nekatere v čast, nekatere pa v nečast.
But, in a great house, there are not only gold and silver vessels, but, also wooden and earthen: and, some, indeed, for honour, while, some, are for dishonour:
21 Če se človek torej očisti od le-teh, bo postal posoda v čast, posvečena ter primerna za gospodarjevo uporabo in pripravljena za vsako dobro delo.
If, therefore, anyone will, for pureness, sever himself from these, he shall be a vessel for honour, hallowed, meet for the Master’s use, for every good work, prepared.
22 Béži tudi pred mladostnimi poželenji, toda sledi pravičnosti, veri, ljubezni, miru, s tistimi, ki iz čistega srca kličejo h Gospodu.
But, from the youthful covetings, flee! and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace, along with them who call upon the Lord out of a pure heart.
23 Toda izogibaj se nespametnih in primitivnih razprav, ker veš, da povzročajo prepire.
But, from the foolish and undisciplined questionings, excuse thyself, knowing that they gender strifes;
24 In Gospodov služabnik se ne sme prepirati, temveč [mora] biti blag do vseh ljudi, zmožen za poučevanje, potrpežljiv,
And, a servant of the Lord, ought not to strive, but to be, gentle, towards all, apt in teaching, ready to endure malice, —
25 da v krotkosti vzgaja te, ki nasprotujejo sebi; če jim bo Bog morda dal kesanje za priznanje resnice;
In meekness, bringing under discipline them that oppose themselves, lest at any time God should give them repentance unto a personal knowledge of truth,
26 in da bodo lahko prišli k sebi, ven iz zanke hudiča, ki jih je ujel v svojo voljo.
And they should wake up to sobriety out of, the adversary’s, snare, —though they have been taken alive by him for, that one’s, will.
