1 Timoteju 3
1 To je zvest izrek: »Če človek hrepeni po službi duhovnega nadzornika, želi dobro delo.«
Here is a trustworthy word: if a man aspires to the position of overseer, he desires a good work.
2 Duhovni nadzornik mora biti torej brez krivde, soprog ene žene, oprezen, trezen, dobrega vedênja, predan gostoljubnosti, zmožen za poučevanje.
Now then, it is obligatory for the overseer to be above reproach, a one woman man, temperate, sensible, respectable, hospitable, good at teaching,
3 Ne vdan vinu, ne razuzdanec, ne pohlepen ali umazano grabežljiv; temveč potrpežljiv, ne razgrajač, ne lakomen;
not a drinker, not a bully, not corrupt [financially], but gentle, peaceful, not greedy;
4 tisti, ki dobro vodi svojo lastno družino, ima svoje otroke v podložnosti z vso resnostjo;
one who rules his own house well, having children who obey him with due respect
5 (kajti če mož ne ve, kako vladati svoji lastni hiši, kako bo skrbel za Božjo cerkev?)
(for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how can he take care of God's congregation?);
6 Ne novinec, da ne bi, kipeč od ponosa, padel v hudičevo obsodbo.
not a recent convert, lest being puffed up he fall into the same judgment that the devil did.
7 Poleg tega mora imeti dober glas od teh, ki so zunaj; da ne pade v grajo ter v hudičevo zanko.

8 Prav tako morajo biti pomočniki [Božjih] služabnikov dostojanstveni, ne dvoumnih besed, ne vdani obilnemu vinu, ne pohlepni po umazani grabežljivosti;
Similarly, deacons must be respectable, not deceitful, not heavy drinkers, not corrupt [financially];
9 ki s čisto vestjo obdržijo skrivnost vere.
holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience.
10 In ti naj bodo najprej preizkušeni; potem pa naj, najdeni brez krivde, služijo kot pomočniki [Božjega] služabnika.
But let these also first be tested; then, if they are blameless, let them serve as deacons.
11 Prav tako morajo biti njihove žene dostojanstvene, ne obrekovalke, trezne, zveste v vseh stvareh.
Similarly, women must be respectable, not slanderers, temperate, trustworthy in everything.
12 Naj bodo pomočniki [Božjih] služabnikov soprogi ene žene, ki dobro vladajo svojim otrokom in svoji lastni hiši.
Let deacons be one woman men, ruling their children and their own houses well.
13 Kajti tisti, ki so se pravilno posluževali službe pomočnika [Božjega] služabnika, so si pridobili dober položaj in veliko hrabrost v veri, ki je v Kristusu Jezusu.
For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a good standing and considerable confidence in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
14 Te stvari ti pišem, ker upam, da v kratkem pridem k tebi.
Although I hope to come to you shortly, I am writing these things to you
15 Toda če se bom dolgo mudil, da boš lahko vedel, kako bi se moral obnašati v Božji hiši, ki je cerkev živega Boga, steber in temelj resnice.
in case I am delayed, so that you may know how it is necessary to conduct oneself in God's household, which is the Church of the living God, pillar and foundation of the truth.
16 In skrivnost prave bogaboječnosti je brez polemike velika. Bog je bil razodet v mesu, opravičen v Duhu, viden od angelov, oznanjen poganom, svet je vanj veroval, sprejet je bil gor v slavo.
Yes, the mystery of our religion is confessedly great: God was manifested in flesh, was vindicated in spirit, was revealed to angels, was proclaimed among nations, was believed in the world, was received up in glory!
