1 Tesaloničanom 2
1 Kajti bratje, vi sami veste, da naš prihod k vam ni bil zaman,
FOR ye yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in to you, that it was not in vain.
2 temveč smo celó potem, ko smo poprej v Filípih trpeli in bili sramotno obravnavani, kakor veste, smo bili v našem Bogu pogumni, da smo vam v velikem boju izpričali Božji evangelij.
But though we had suffered before, and were infamously treated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to preach unto you the gospel of God amidst a great conflict.
3 Kajti naše spodbujanje ni bilo iz prevare niti iz nečistosti niti v zvijači,
And our exhortation originated not from delusion, or impurity, or from guile;
4 temveč kakor nam je Bog dopustil, da nam zaupa evangelij, točno tako govorimo; ne kakor ugajajoči ljudem, temveč Bogu, ki preizkuša naša srca.
but as we have been approved of God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God, who trieth our hearts.
5 Kajti niti nismo ob kateremkoli času uporabili laskavih besed, kakor veste niti pretveze pohlepnosti; Bog je priča.
For neither at any time used we insinuating language, as ye know, nor a pretext for covetousness; God is witness:
6 Niti nismo iskali slave od ljudi niti od vas niti ne od drugih, ko bi lahko bili obremenjujoči kot Kristusovi apostoli.
not seeking glory from men, neither from you, nor from others, though we might have been burdensome, as apostles of Christ.
7 Toda med vami smo bili nežni, tako kakor dojilja neguje svoje otroke.
But we were gentle in the midst of you, as a nurse cherisheth her own infants.
8 Tako smo vas bili vdano željni, da smo vam bili voljni podeliti ne samo Božji evangelij, ampak tudi naše duše, ker ste nam bili dragi.
So, tenderly affected towards you, we could with pleasure have imparted to you not the gospel of God only, but our own lives also, because ye were beloved by us.
9 Kajti spomnite se, bratje, našega truda in muke; kajti ponoči in podnevi smo garali, ker nismo želeli biti obremenitev komurkoli izmed vas, ko smo vam pridigali Božji evangelij.
For ye remember, brethren, our labour and toil: for night and day working hard, that we might be no burden to any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.
10 Vi ste priče in tudi Bog, kako sveto in pravično in neoporečno smo se vêdli med vami, ki verujete.
Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily, and justly, and faultlessly we conducted ourselves among you that believe:
11 Prav tako veste, kako smo tolažili in opozarjali vsakega izmed vas, tako kakor oče počne svojim otrokom,
as ye know how we treated every one of you, as a father doth his children, exhorting you, and admonishing, and conjuring you,
12 da bi vi živeli vredno Boga, ki vas je poklical v svoje kraljestvo in slavo.
that ye should walk worthy of God, as calling you into his kingdom and glory.
13 Zaradi tega razloga se prav tako brez prenehanja zahvaljujemo Bogu, kajti ko ste prejeli Božjo besedo, ki ste jo slišali od nas, je niste sprejeli kakor človeško besedo, temveč takšno, kot je v resnici, Božjo besedo, ki učinkovito deluje tudi v vas, ki verujete.
For this cause do we also give thanks to God unceasingly, because when ye received the word reported by us from God, ye received it not as the word of man, but, as it is in truth, the word of God, which worketh also effectually in you that believe.
14 Kajti vi, bratje, ste postali sledilci Božjih cerkvá, ki so v Judeji v Kristusu Jezusu; kajti tudi vi ste trpeli podobne stvari od svojih lastnih rojakov, takšne, kot so jih oni od Judov,
For ye, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea, in Christ Jesus: for ye suffered the same things also yourselves from your own countrymen, as they too have of the Jews;
15 ki so ubili tako Gospoda Jezusa kakor svoje lastne preroke in so preganjali nas; pa ne ugajajo Bogu in so nasprotni vsem ljudem.
who both murdered the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and have persecuted us, and please not God, and are in opposition to all mankind;
16 Branijo nam govoriti poganom, da bi bili le-ti lahko rešeni in da bi vsakič dopolnili svoje grehe; kajti bes je prišel nadnje do skrajnosti.
forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles, that they might be saved, to fill up the measure of their iniquities always: but wrath is coming upon them to the extremity.
17 Toda mi, bratje, ki smo bili za kratek čas vzeti od vaše navzočnosti, [toda] ne v srcu, smo si z velikim hrepenenjem toliko obilneje prizadevali, da vidimo vaše obličje.
But we, brethren, bereaved of you for a short moment, in person, not in heart, have more abundantly longed to see your face with great desire.
18 Zato smo želeli priti k vam, celó jaz Pavel, enkrat in ponovno; toda Satan nas je zadržal.
Therefore we wished to have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan prevented us.
19 Kajti kaj je naše upanje ali veselje ali krona radosti? Ali ne celó vi v prisotnosti našega Gospoda Jezusa Kristusa ob njegovem prihodu?
For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?
20 Kajti vi ste naša slava in veselje.
For ye are our glory and joy.
