1 Peter, apostol Jezusa Kristusa, tujcem, razpršenim vsepovsod po Pontu, Galatiji, Kapadokiji, Aziji in Bitiniji,
Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the elect who are sojourners of the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Roman Asia, and Bithynia,
2 izvoljenim glede na vnaprejšnje védenje Boga Očeta, s posvečenjem Duha, k poslušnosti in škropljenju s krvjo Jezusa Kristusa: ›Milost vam in mir naj se pomnožita.‹
according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ; Grace and peace be multiplied to you.
3 Blagoslovljen bodi Bog in Oče našega Gospoda Jezusa Kristusa, ki nas je glede na svoje obilno usmiljenje, z vstajenjem Jezusa Kristusa od mrtvih, ponovno rodil v živo upanje,
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whose great mercy we have been born anew into a living hope, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead;
4 k dediščini, netrohneči in neomadeževani in ki ne propada, prihranjeni v nebesih za vas,
and into an inheritance imperishable and undefiled and fadeless, which has been kept in heaven for you
5 ki ste varovani z Božjo močjo po veri v rešitev duš, ki je pripravljena, da se razodene v poslednjem času.
who, through faith, are continuously guarded by the power of God for a salvation, ready to be revealed in the last days.
6 V kateri se silno veselite, čeprav ste sedaj za nekaj časa, če je potrebno, v potrtosti po mnogovrstnih preizkušnjah,
Exult in this, though now for a brief moment, if need be, you have suffered many hardships.
7 da bo preizkušenost vaše vere, ki je veliko bolj dragocena kakor zlato, ki izgineva, čeprav je to preizkušeno z ognjem, lahko najdena v hvalo, čast in slavo, ob pojavitvi Jezusa Kristusa.
These are in order that the test of your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable and yet is tested by fire, may redound to praise and glory and honor, at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
8 Katerega niste videli, vi ljubite; v katerega, čeprav ga sedaj ne vidite, vendar verujete [in] se veselite z nepopisno radostjo in polni slave,
Him you love, though you have never seen him; in him you ever believe, though even now you see him not, and you are rejoicing with joy unspeakable and full of glory,
9 ko prejemate konec svoje vere, celó rešitev svojih duš.
as you continually receive the reward of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
10 O tej rešitvi duš so poizvedovali in marljivo preiskovali preroki, ki so prerokovali o milosti, ki naj bi prišla k vam.
Concerning this salvation the Prophets who prophesied regarding the grace intended for you, diligently sought and searched.
11 In preiskovali so kaj ali na kakšno vrsto časa je kazal Kristusov Duh, ki je bil v njih, ko je vnaprej pričeval o Kristusovem trpljenju in slavi, ki naj bi sledila.
They were searching to know to what time, or to what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them kept pointing, when he ever testified beforehand concerning the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.
12 Katerim je bilo razodeto, da ne njim, temveč so besede služile nam, sedaj pa so sporočene vam, po teh, ki so vam s Svetim Duhom, poslanim iz nebes, oznanili evangelij; v katere stvari želijo pogledati angeli.
It was revealed to them that it was not for themselves, but for you, that they were ministering the truths which have now been announced to you, by those who preached the gospel to you, through the help of the Holy Spirit sent forth from heaven - truths into which angels long to look.
13 Zatorej opašite ledja svojega uma, bodite trezni in do konca upajte na milost, ki bo privedena k vam ob razodetju Jezusa Kristusa;
So then brace up your minds, be steady in spirit, and fix your hope firmly in the grace that is coming to you, at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
14 kot poslušni otroci se ne prilagajajte glede na prejšnja poželenja, v svoji nevednosti,
Like obedient children, do not fashion yourselves according to the former passions of your days of ignorance,
15 temveč kakor je svet on, ki vas je poklical, tako bodite sveti vi, v vseh vrstah vedênja,
but become yourselves holy in your whole manner of living, as He who has called you is holy,
16 ker je pisano: »Bodite sveti, kajti jaz sem svet.«
as the Scripture says, You shall be holy, because I am holy.
17 In če kličete k Očetu, ki sodi brez oziranja na osebe, glede na delo vsakega človeka, preživite čas svojega začasnega bivanja tukaj v strahu,
And since you call upon him as Father, who impartially judges each one according to his deeds, pass the time of your sojourning here in reverence.
18 ker veste, da iz vašega praznega vedênja, prejetega po izročilu od vaših očetov, niste bili odkupljeni s trohljivimi stvarmi, kot sta srebro in zlato,
For you well know that not with perishable things, with silver or gold, were you redeemed from the emptiness of your manner of life, received by tradition from your ancestors;
19 temveč z dragoceno Kristusovo krvjo, kakor od jagnjeta brez pomanjkljivosti in brez madeža;
but with precious blood, like that of a lamb without spot or blemish, even the blood of Christ.
20 ki je bil resnično vnaprej določen, pred ustanovitvijo sveta, toda v teh poslednjih časih je bil razodet za vas,
He was indeed foreknown before the foundation of the world, but was manifested at the end of the times for your sake.
21 ki po njem verujete v Boga, ki ga je obudil od mrtvih in mu izročil slavo; da bo vaša vera in upanje lahko v Bogu.
Through him you believe in God who raised him from the dead and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope are now in God.
22 Ker ste svoje duše, v pokorščini resnici skozi Duha, očistili v nehlinjeno bratoljúbje, glejte, da goreče, s čistim srcem, ljubíte drug drugega,
Now that by obedience to the truth you have purified your lives for a brotherly love without hypocrisy, you must love one another from your hearts, fervently.
23 ker ste ponovno rojeni, ne iz trohljivega semena, temveč iz netrohljivega, po Božji besedi, ki živi in ostaja na veke. (aiōn g165)
For you have been born anew, not of perishable, but of imperishable seed, by the living, lasting word of God. (aiōn g165)
24 Kajti vse meso je kot trava in vsa človeška slava kakor cvet trave. Trava ovene in njen cvet pade proč,
For, All flesh is grass And all its glory like the flower of the grass. The grass fades, The flower falls,
