1 Zvino wakati kwavari: Zvirokwazvo ndinoti kwamuri: Vamwe varipo kune vamire pano, vasingazoraviri rufu, kusvikira vaona ushe hwaMwari huchiuya nesimba.
“I tell you,” he added, “that some of those who are standing here will not know death till they have seen the Kingdom of God come in power.”
2 Zvino shure kwemazuva matanhatu, Jesu akatora Petro, naJakobho, naJohwani, akavatungamidza mugomo refu, pachavo vari vega; akashandurwa chimiro pamberi pavo.
Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John, and led them up a high mountain alone by themselves. There his appearance was transformed before their eyes,
3 Zvipfeko zvake zvikapenya, zvikachenesesa zvikuru semagada echando; hakuna musuki panyika, angagona kuzvichenesa zvikadaro.
and his clothes became of a more dazzling white than any bleacher in the world could make them.
4 Zvino kwakaonekwa kwavari Eria naMozisi, uye vaitaurirana naJesu.
And Elijah appeared to them, in company with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.
5 Petro akapindura akati kuna Jesu: Rabhi, zvakanaka kuti tiri pano; ngativake matende matatu, rimwe renyu, uye rimwe raMozisi, uye rimwe raEria.
“Rabbi,” said Peter, interposing, “it is good to be here; let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
6 Nokuti wakange asingazivi chekutaura; nokuti vaitya zvikuru.
For he did not know what to say, because they were much afraid.
7 Zvino kwakava negore rakavadzikatira, inzwi rikabuda mugore, richiti: Uyu Mwanakomana wangu anodikanwa, inzwai iye.
Then a cloud came down and enveloped them; and from the cloud there came a voice — “This is my Son, the Beloved; him you must hear.”
8 Kamwe-kamwe, vakati varinga-ringa, havana kuzochaona munhu, asi Jesu chete anavo.
And suddenly, on looking round, they saw that there was now no one with them but Jesus alone.
9 Zvino vakati vachiburuka mugomo, akavaraira kuti varege kuudza munhu zvavakange vaona kusvikira Mwanakomana wemunhu amuka kubva kuvakafa.
As they were going down the mountain-side, Jesus cautioned them not to relate what they had seen to any one, till after the Son of Man should have risen again from the dead.
10 Vakachengeta shoko iro mukati mavo, vachibvunzana kuti kumuka kwevakafa chii.
They seized upon these words and discussed with one another what this ‘rising from the dead’ meant.
11 Vakamubvunza, vachiti: Vanyori vanoreverei kuti Eria anofanira kutanga kuuya?
“How is it,” they asked Jesus, “that our Teachers of the Law say that Elijah has to come first?”
12 Akapindura, akati kwavari: Eria zvirokwazvo anotanga kuuya, avandudze zvinhu zvese; kwakagonyorwa sei zveMwanakomana wemunhu, kuti achatambudzika zvinhu zvizhinji nekuzvidzwa?
“Elijah does indeed come first,” answered Jesus, “and re-establish everything; and does not Scripture speak, with regard to the Son of Man, of his undergoing much suffering and being utterly despised?
13 Asi ndinoreva kwamuri kuti Eriawo wakasvika, vakamuitira zvese zvavaida, sezvazvakanyorwa pamusoro pake.
But I tell you that Elijah has come, and people have treated him just as they pleased, as Scripture says of him.”
14 Zvino wakati asvika kuvadzidzi, akaona chaunga chikuru chakavakomba, nevanyori vachipikisana navo.
When they came to the other disciples, they saw a great crowd round them, and some Teachers of the Law arguing with them.
15 Pakarepo chaunga chese chakati chichimuona chikashamisika zvikuru, ndokumumhanyira, chikamukwazisa.
But, as soon as they saw Jesus, all the people, in great astonishment, ran up and greeted him.
16 Akabvunza vanyori akati: Munopikisanei navo?
“What are you arguing about with them?” Jesus asked.
17 Umwe wechaunga akapindura akati: Mudzidzisi, ndauisa kwamuri mwanakomana wangu, ane mweya wechimumumu;
“Teacher,” answered a man in the crowd, “I brought my son to see you, as he has a dumb spirit in him;
18 pangava papi paunomubata, unomubvambura; opupuma furo, nekugeda-geda meno ake, uye anooma; zvino ndakataura nevadzidzi venyu kuti vaubudise, vakasagona.
and, wherever it seizes him, it dashes him down; he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth, and he is pining away. I asked your disciples to drive the spirit out, but they failed.”
19 Akamupindura akati: Haiwa zera risina rutendo, ndichava nemwi kusvikira rinhi? Ndichakuitirai moyo murefu kusvikira rinhi? Muuyisei kwandiri.
“O faithless generation!” exclaimed Jesus. “How long must I be with you? how long must I have patience with you? Bring the boy to me.”
20 Vakamuuisa kwaari; wakati achimuona, pakarepo mweya ukamubvambura; akawira pasi, akaumburuka achipupuma furo.
They brought him to Jesus; but no sooner did the boy see him than the spirit threw him into convulsions; and he fell on the ground, and rolled about, foaming at the mouth.
21 Ndokubva abvunza baba vake akati: Yava nguva yakadini kubvira izvozvi zvichiitika kwaari? Akati: Kubva paupwere.
“How long has he been like this?” Jesus asked the boy’s father.
22 Kazhinji wakamuwisira nemumoto nemumvura, kuti umuparadze; asi kana muchigona kuita chinhu, mutinzwire tsitsi, mutibatsire.
“From his childhood,” he answered; “and it has often thrown him into fire and into water to put an end to his life; but, if you can possibly do anything, take pity on us, and help us!”
23 Jesu ndokuti kwaari: Kana uchigona kutenda, zvinhu zvese zvinogoneka kune anotenda.
Why say ‘possibly’?” Jesus replied. “Everything is possible for one who has faith.”
24 Uye pakarepo baba vemwana vakadanidzira nemisodzi vakati: Ndinotenda, Ishe, batsirai pakusatenda kwangu.
The boy’s father immediately cried out: “I have faith; help my want of faith!”
25 Jesu wakati achiona kuti chaunga chinouya chichimhanyirana, akatsiura mweya wetsina, akati kwauri: Iwe, mweya wechimumumu nematsi, ini ndinokuraira: Buda maari, urege kupindazve maari.
But, when Jesus saw that a crowd was quickly collecting, he rebuked the foul spirit: “Deaf and dumb spirit, it is I who command you. Come out from him and never enter him again.”
26 Zvino mweya ukadanidzira, ukamubvundisa zvikuru ukabuda; akaita sewakafa, nokudaro vazhinji vakati: Wafa.
With a loud cry the spirit threw the boy into repeated convulsions, and then came out from him. The boy looked like a corpse, so that most of them said that he was dead.
27 Asi Jesu wakabata ruoko rwake akamusimudza; akasimuka.
But Jesus took his hand, and lifted him; and he stood up.
28 Zvino wakati apinda mumba, vadzidzi vake vakamubvunza vari vega vachiti: Sei isu takange tisingagoni kuubudisa?
When Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately: “Why could not we drive it out?”
29 Ndokubva ati kwavari: Zera iri harigoni kubuda nechinhu, kunze nekunyengetera nekutsanya.
“A spirit of this kind,” he said, “can be driven out only by prayer.”
30 Vakabva ipapo, vakagura neGarirea, akange asingadi kuti chero ani azvizive.
Leaving that place, Jesus and his disciples went on their way through Galilee; but he did not wish any one to know it,
31 Nokuti aidzidzisa vadzidzi vake, achiti kwavari: Mwanakomana wemunhu achakumikidzwa mumaoko evanhu, uye vachamuuraya; kana aurawa achamuka nezuva retatu.
for he was instructing his disciples, and telling them — “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of his fellow men, and they will put him to death, but, when he has been put to death, he will rise again after three days.”
32 Asi havana kunzwisisa shoko iro, vachitya kumubvunza.
But the disciples did not understand his meaning and were afraid to question him.
33 Zvino wakasvika muKapenaume; akati ava mumba, akavabvunza, achiti: Manga muchikakavadzana chii munzira?
They came to Capernaum. When Jesus had gone into the house, he asked them: “What were you discussing on the way?”
34 Asi vakanyarara, nokuti munzira vakange vakakavadzana kuti mukurusa ndiani.
But they were silent; for on the way they had been arguing with one another which was the greatest.
35 Zvino akagara pasi, akadana vanegumi nevaviri, akati kwavari: Kana munhu achida kuva wekutanga, achava wekupedzisira kune vese nemushandi wevese.
Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said: “If any one wishes to be first, he must be last of all, and servant of all.”
36 Ndokutora mucheche, akamumisa pakati pavo; akati amugumbatira, akati kwavari:
Then Jesus took a little child, and placed it in the middle of them. Folding it in his arms, he said to them:
37 Ani nani anogamuchira umwe wevacheche vakadai muzita rangu, anogamuchira ini; uye ani nani anogamuchira ini, haagamuchiri ini, asi uyo wakandituma.
“Any one who, for the sake of my Name, welcomes even a little child like this is welcoming me, and any one who welcomes me is welcoming not me, but him who sent me as his Messenger.”
38 Zvino Johwani akamupindura, achiti: Mudzidzisi, takaona umwe asingatiteveri achibudisa madhimoni muzita renyu; tikamudzivisa, nokuti haana kutitevera.
“Teacher,” said John, “we saw a man driving out demons by using your name, and we tried to prevent him, because he did not follow us.”
39 Asi Jesu wakati: Musamudzivisa, nokuti hakuna munhu angaita basa resimba muzita rangu, anogona kukurumidza kutaura zvakaipa pamusoro pangu.
“None of you must prevent the man,” answered Jesus, “for no one will use my name in working a miracle, and yet find it easy to speak evil of me.
40 Nokuti asingapikisani nesu, ndewedu.
He who is not against us is for us.
41 Nokuti ani nani anokupai mukombe wemvura kuti munwe muzita rangu, nokuti muri vaKristu, zvirokwazvo ndinoti kwamuri: Haangamborasikirwi nemubairo wake.
If any one gives you a cup of water because you belong to Christ, I tell you, he shall assuredly not lose his reward.
42 Uye ani nani anogumbusa umwe wevadiki ava vanotenda kwandiri, zviri nani kwaari kuti guyo guru risungirirwe kupoteredza pamutsipa wake, akandirwe mugungwa.
‘And, if any one puts a snare in the way of one of these lowly ones who believe in me, it would be far better for him if he had been thrown into the sea with a great millstone round his neck.
43 Uye kana ruoko rwako ruchikugumbusa, rugure; zviri nani kwauri kupinda muupenyu uri chirema, pane kuti une maoko maviri uende mugehena, mumoto usingadzimiki, (Geenna g1067)
If your hand proves a snare to you, cut it off. It would be better for you to enter the Life maimed, than to have both your hands and go into the Pit, into the inextinguishable fire. (Geenna g1067)
44 apo pasingafi honye yavo, nemoto usingadzimi.
45 Uye kana rutsoka rwako ruchikugumbusa, rugure; zviri nani kwauri kupinda muupenyu uchikamhina, pane kuti une tsoka mbiri ukandirwe mugehena, mumoto usingadzimiki, (Geenna g1067)
If your foot proves a snare to you, cut it off. It would be better for you to enter the Life lame, than to have both your feet and be thrown into the Pit. (Geenna g1067)
46 apo pasingafi honye yavo, nemoto usingadzimi.
47 Zvino kana ziso rako richikugumbusa, ridzure; zviri nani kwauri kupinda muushe hwaMwari une ziso rimwe, pakuti une maziso maviri, ukandirwe mugehena remoto, (Geenna g1067)
If your eye proves a snare to you, tear it out. It would be better for you to enter the Kingdom of God with only one eye, than to have both eyes and be thrown into the Pit, (Geenna g1067)
48 apo pasingafi honye yavo, nemoto usingadzimi.
where ‘their worm does not die, and the fire is not put out.’
49 Nokuti wese acharungwa nemoto uye chibairo chese chicharungwa nemunyu.
‘For it is by fire that every one will be salted.
50 Munyu wakanaka; asi kana munyu warasa kuvava, mungaurunga nei? Ivai nemunyu mamuri, mugarisane nerugare.
‘Salt is good, but, if the salt should lose its saltiness, what will you use to season it? ‘You must have salt in yourselves, and live at peace with one another.”
