When Jesus had said these things, He went with His disciples across the Kidron ravine, where there was a garden, into which He and His disciples entered.
2 NaJudhasiwo, wakamutengesa, wakange achiziva nzvimbo iyi; nokuti Jesu kazhinji waiunganapo nevadzidzi vake.
Now Judas, who was betraying Him, also knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with His disciples.

Therefore Jesus, knowing everything that would happen to Him, went forward and asked them, “Who are you looking for?”
5 Vakamupindura vakati: Jesu muNazareta. Jesu akati kwavari: Ndini. NaJudhasiwo wakamutengesa wakange amire navo.
They answered, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus told them, “I AM.” Judas, who betrayed Him, also stood with them.
6 Zvino wakati achiti kwavari: Ndini; vakasudurukira shure, vakawira pasi.
Now when He told them, “I AM,” they drew back and fell to the ground.
7 Zvino akavabvunzazve achiti: Ndiani wamunotsvaka? Ivo vakati: Jesu muNazareta.
Then He asked them again, “Who are you looking for?” They said, “Jesus of Nazareth.”
8 Jesu akapindura achiti: Ndakuudzai kuti ndini iye; naizvozvo kana muchitsvaka ini, regai ava vaende;
Jesus answered, “I told you that I AM. So, if you are looking for me, let these go their way,”
9 kuti shoko rizadziswe raakareva rekuti: Vamakapa kwandiri, handina kurasa umwe wavo.
that the saying might be fulfilled which He spoke, “I have lost none of those who You gave me.”
10 Naizvozvo Simoni Petro ane munondo wakauvhomora ndokutema muranda wemupristi mukuru, ndokugura nzeve yake yerudyi. Uye zita remuranda uyo raiva Marikosi.
Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
11 Naizvozvo Jesu wakati kuna Petro: Isa munondo wako mumuhara; mukombe Baba wavakandipa, handingatongounwi here?
So Jesus told Peter, “Put your sword into its sheath! Shouldn’t I drink the cup that my Father has given me?”
12 Zvino boka remauto nemukuru wechuru nemapurisa eVaJudha vakabata Jesu, vakamusunga,
Then the detachment of soldiers and their commander and the officers of the Jews arrested Jesus and tied Him up.
13 ndokutanga kumuendesa kuna Anasi; nokuti wakange ari mukarahwa waKayafasi, waiva mupristi mukuru gore iroro.
They led Him away to Annas first, because he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
14 Zvino Kayafasi ndiye wakange araira VaJudha, kuti zvakanaka kuti munhu umwe afire rudzi.
It was Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
15 Zvino Simoni Petro wakatevera Jesu, neumwe mudzidzi. Mudzidzi uyu waizikanwa nemupristi mukuru, akapinda naJesu muchivanze chemupristi mukuru;
Simon Peter was following Jesus, and so was another disciple. Since the high priest knew that disciple, he entered with Jesus into the high priest’s court,
16 asi Petro wakange amire pamukova panze. Naizvozvo kwakabuda umwe mudzidzi waizikanwa nemupristi mukuru, akataura nemurindikadzi wemukova, ndokupinza Petro.
but Peter was standing just outside the door. So the other disciple, who the high priest knew, went out and spoke to the woman who guarded the door, and brought Peter in.
17 Zvino murandakadzi murindi wemukova akati kuna Petro: Iwewo hausi umwe wevadzidzi vemunhu uyu here? Iye akati: Handisi.
Then the maidservant who kept the door asked Peter, “You aren’t one of this man’s disciples, too, are you?” He said, “I am not.”
18 Zvino varanda nemapurisa vakange vamire vavesa moto wemazimbe, nokuti kwaitonhora, uye vaidziya. Petrowo akamira navo achidziya.
Because it was cold, the servants and the officers were standing there warming themselves, having made a charcoal fire. Peter was also with them, standing and warming himself.
19 Naizvozvo mupristi mukuru wakabvunza Jesu nezvevadzidzi vake, nezvedzidziso yake.
Then the high priest asked Jesus about His disciples and His doctrine.
20 Jesu akamupindura akati: Ini ndakataura pachena kunyika; ini ndaidzidzisa nguva dzese musinagoge nemutembere, panoungana VaJudha nguva dzese, uye handina kureva chinhu pakavanda.
Jesus answered him, “I have spoken openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret.
21 Unobvunzirei ini? Bvunza avo vainzwa, zvandaitaura kwavari; tarira, ndivo vanoziva ini zvandakareva.
Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me to tell you what I told them. They certainly know what I said.”
22 Wakati areva zvinhu izvi, umwe wemapurisa wakange amirepo akarova Jesu nembama, achiti: Ko unopindura mupristi mukuru saizvozvo?
When He had said these things, one of the officers who stood by hit Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, “Is that how you answer the high priest?”
23 Jesu akamupindura akati: Kana ndareva zvakaipa, pupura zvezvakaipa zvacho; asi kana zvakanaka, wandiroverei?
Jesus answered him, “If I have spoken evil, testify about the evil, but if I have spoken honestly, why do you hit me?”
24 Zvino Anasi akamutumira akasungwa kuna Kayafasi mupristi mukuru.
Then Annas sent Him, still bound, to Caiaphas, the high priest.
25 Zvino Simoni Petro wakange amire achidziya moto; naizvozvo vakati kwaari: Hausi iwewo umwe wevadzidzi vake here? Iye akaramba, akati: Handisi.
Now Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. Therefore they asked him, “You aren’t one of His disciples, too, are you?” He denied it, saying, “I am not!”
26 Umwe wevaranda vemupristi mukuru, ari hama yewenzeve Petro yaakagura akati: Ini handina kukuona mubindu unaye here?
One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter cut off, said, “Didn’t I see you in the garden with Him?”
27 Naizvozvo Petro akarambazve; zvino pakarepo jongwe rakarira.
Peter then denied it again, and immediately a rooster crowed.
28 Zvino vakabvisa Jesu kuna Kayafasi vakamuisa kuimba yemutungamiriri; uye aiva mambakwedza, asi ivo havana kupinda mumba memutungamiriri, kuti varege kusvibiswa, asi kuti vadye pasika.
Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium. It was early morning. They themselves didn’t go into the Praetorium, so that they wouldn’t be defiled, and so that they might eat the Passover supper.
29 Naizvozvo Pirato akabudira kwavari, akati: Imhosva yei yamunoisa pamunhu uyu?
So Pilate came out to them and asked, “What charges do you bring against this man?”
30 Vakapindura vakati kwaari: Dai uyu asaiva anoita zvakaipa, tingadai tisina kumukumikidza kwamuri.
They answered, “If this man wasn’t a criminal, we wouldn’t have handed him over to you.”
31 Naizvozvo Pirato wakati kwavari: Mutorei imwi, mumutonge zvinoenderana nemurairo wenyu. Naizvozvo VaJudha vakati kwaari: Hazvisi pamutemo kwatiri kuti tiuraye munhu;
Then Pilate told them, “You take Him and judge Him according to your Law.” Therefore the Jews said to him, “It’s illegal for us to put anyone to death.”
32 kuti shoko raJesu rizadziswe raakareva, achiratidza kuti kufa rudzii kwaaifanira kufa nako.
This happened so that the words would be fulfilled which Jesus had spoken indicating the kind of death he was going to die.
33 Naizvozvo Pirato wakapindazve mumba memutungamiriri, akadana Jesu, akati kwaari: Ndiwe mambo weVaJudha here?
Then Pilate went back into the Praetorium, summoned Jesus, and asked Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?”
34 Jesu akamupindura akati: Unozvireva izvi pachako here, kana vamwe vakuudza pamusoro pangu?
Jesus answered, “Are you speaking for yourself about this, or did others tell you this about me?”
35 Pirato akapindura, akati: Ini ndiri muJudha here? Rudzi rwako nevapristi vakuru vakukumikidza kwandiri; waitei?
Pilate answered, “I’m not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done?”
36 Jesu akapindura akati: Ushe hwangu hahuzi hwenyika ino; kana ushe hwangu hwaiva hwenyika ino, varanda vangu vangadai vairwa, kuti ndirege kukumikidzwa kuVaJudha; asi zvino ushe hwangu hahusi hwepano.
Jesus answered, “My kingdom doesn’t belong to this world. If my kingdom did belong to this world, then my servants would be fighting to keep me from being delivered up to the Jews; but as it is, my kingdom isn’t from here.”
37 Naizvozvo Pirato wakati kwaari: Saka uri iwe mambo here? Jesu akapindura akati: Unoreva iwe, kuti ini ndiri mambo. Ini ndakaberekerwa izvi, uye ndakauira izvi munyika kuti ndipupurire chokwadi. Umwe neumwe wechokwadi anonzwa inzwi rangu.
Pilate therefore asked Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “You are right in saying that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify about the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.”
38 Pirato akati kwaari: Chokwadi chii? Zvino wakati areva izvi, akabudirazve kuVaJudha, akati kwavari: Ini handiwani mhosva kwaari.
“What is truth?” Pilate asked. After asking this, he went out again to the Jews and said, “I find no basis for a charge against Him,
39 Asi mune tsika, kuti ndikusunungurirei umwe papasika; naizvozvo munoda kuti ndikusunungurirei Mambo weVaJudha here?
but you have a custom that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore you decide: do you want me to release the King of the Jews to you?”
40 Ipapo vakadanidzirazve vese, vachiti: Kwete uyu, asi Bharabhasi; zvino Bharabhasi wakange ari gororo.
Then they all shouted back, saying, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.
