When Israel went forth out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of a strange language:
2 Judha akava imba tsvene yaMwari, Israeri ushe hwake.

3 Gungwa rakazviona rikatiza, Jorodhani rwakadzokera shure;
The sea beheld it, and fled: the Jordan was driven backward.
4 makomo akakwakuka samakondobwe, zvikomo samakwayana.
The mountains skipped like wethers, the hills like lambs.
5 Haiwa gungwa, wakatizeiko, iwe Jorodhani zvawakadzokera shure,
What aileth thee, O sea, that thou fleest? thou, O Jordan, that thou art driven backward?
6 imi makomo zvamakakwakuka samakondobwe, nemi zvikomo, samakwayana?
Ye mountains, that ye skip like wethers? ye hills, like lambs?
7 Dedera, iwe nyika pamberi paShe, pamberi paMwari waJakobho,
At the presence of the Lord tremble, O earth, at the presence of the God of Jacob;

Who changeth the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of water.
