[The] scroll of the birth of Jesus Christ, Son of David, Son of Abraham.
2 Abhurahama aiva baba vaIsaka, Isaka baba vaJakobho, Jakobho baba vaJudha namadzikoma ake, navanunʼuna vake,
Abraham begot Isaac, and Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers,
3 Judha baba vaPerezi naZera, mai vavo vaiva Tamari, Perezi baba vaHezironi, Hezironi baba vaRamu,
and Judah begot Perez and Zerah of Tamar, and Perez begot Hezron, and Hezron begot Ram,
4 Ramu baba vaAminadhabhu, Aminadhabhu baba vaNashoni, Nashoni baba vaSarimoni,
and Ram begot Amminadab, and Amminadab begot Nahshon, and Nahshon begot Salmon,
5 Sarimoni baba vaBhoazi, mai vake vari Rahabhi, Bhoazi baba vaObhedhi, mai vake vari Rute, Obhedhi baba vaJese,
and Salmon begot Boaz of Rahab, and Boaz begot Obed of Ruth, and Obed begot Jesse,
6 naJese baba vamambo Dhavhidhi. Dhavhidhi aiva baba vaSoromoni, mai vake ndivo vaimbova mukadzi waUria,
and Jesse begot David the king. And David the king begot Solomon, of her [who had been] Uriah’s,
7 Soromoni baba vaRehobhoamu, Rehobhoamu baba vaAbhija, Abhija baba vaAsa,
and Solomon begot Rehoboam, and Rehoboam begot Abijah, and Abijah begot Asa,
8 Asa baba vaJehoshafati, Jehoshafati baba vaJoramu, Joramu baba vaUzia,
and Asa begot Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat begot Joram, and Joram begot Uzziah,
9 Uzia baba vaJotamu, Jotamu baba vaAhazi, Ahazi baba vaHezekia.
and Uzziah begot Jotham, and Jotham begot Ahaz, and Ahaz begot Hezekiah,
10 Hezekia baba vaManase, Manase baba vaAmoni, Amoni baba vaJosia,
and Hezekiah begot Manasseh, and Manasseh begot Amon, and Amon begot Josiah,
11 naJosia baba vaJekonia navanunʼuna vake panguva yavaiva kuutapwa muBhabhironi.
and Josiah begot Jeconiah and his brothers, at the Babylonian removal.
12 Vabva kuutapwa kuBhabhironi: Jekonia aiva baba vaShearitieri, Shearitieri baba vaZerubhabheri,
And after the Babylonian removal, Jeconiah begot Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begot Zerubbabel,
13 Zerubhabheri baba vaAbhiudhi, Abhiudhi baba vaEriakimu, Eriakimu baba vaAzori.
and Zerubbabel begot Abiud, and Abiud begot Eliakim, and Eliakim begot Azor,
14 Azori baba vaZadhoki, Zadhoki baba vaAkimu, Akimu baba vaEriudhi,
and Azor begot Sadok, and Sadok begot Achim, and Achim begot Eliud,
15 Eriudhi baba vaEreazari, Ereazari baba vaMatani, Matani baba vaJakobho.
and Eliud begot Eleazar, and Eleazar begot Matthan, and Matthan begot Jacob,
16 Jakobho baba vaJosefa, uyo aiva murume waMaria, uyo akabereka Jesu, anonzi Kristu.
and Jacob begot Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was begotten Jesus, who is named Christ.
17 Nokudaro kwaiva nezvizvarwa gumi nezvina pamwe chete kubvira pana Abhurahama kusvika pana Dhavhidhi, zvizvarwa gumi nezvina kubva pana Dhavhidhi kusvika pakutapwa kwavo vachiendwa navo kuBhabhironi, zvizvarwa gumi nezvina kubva pakudzoka kwavo kuutapwa kusvika panguva yaKristu.
All the generations, therefore, from Abraham to David [are] fourteen generations, and from David to the Babylonian removal fourteen generations, and from the Babylonian removal to the Christ, fourteen generations.
18 Uku ndiko kuberekwa kwakaitwa Jesu Kristu: Maria, mai vake vainge vatsidzirwa kuroorwa naJosefa, asi vasati vagara vose, achiri mhandara, akaonekwa ava napamuviri nokuda kwaMweya Mutsvene.
And of Jesus Christ, the birth was thus: for His mother Mary having been betrothed to Joseph, before their coming together she was found to have conceived from the Holy Spirit,
19 Asi nokuda kwokuti Josefa akanga ari munhu akarurama akafunga zvokumuramba chinyararire, asingamunyadzisi pavazhinji.
and her husband Joseph being righteous, and not willing to make her an example, resolved to send her away privately.
20 Asi achiri kufunga nezvenyaya iyi, mutumwa waIshe akauya kwaari mukurota akasvikoti, “Josefa, mwana waDhavhidhi, usatya kutora Maria somukadzi wako nokuti pamuviri paava napo akapabata nokuda kwesimba raMweya Mutsvene.
And on his thinking of these things, behold, a messenger of the LORD appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, you may not fear to receive your wife Mary, for that which was begotten in her is of [the] Holy Spirit,
21 Achava nomwana mukomana wauchazotumidza zita rokuti Jesu nokuti ndiye achaponesa vanhu vake kubva muzvivi zvavo.”
and she will bring forth a Son, and you will call His Name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
22 Izvi zvose zvakaitika kuti zvizadzise zvakanga zvataurwa naIshe kubudikidza nomuprofita wake zvokuti:
And all this has come to pass, that it may be fulfilled that was spoken by the LORD through the prophet, saying,
23 “Mhandara ichava napamuviri, igozvara mwana mukomana, uye vachamutumidza zita rokuti Emanueri, zvichireva kuti, ‘Mwari anesu.’”
“Behold, the virgin will conceive, and she will bring forth a Son, and they will call His Name Emmanuel,” which is, being interpreted, “God with us.”
24 Josefa paakapepuka, akaita sezvaakanga arayirwa nomutumwa waIshe, uye akatora Maria somukadzi wake,
And Joseph, having risen from sleep, did as the messenger of the LORD directed him, and received his wife,
25 asi haana kusangana naye kusvikira azvara mwana mukomana. Akamutumidza zita rokuti Jesu.
and did not know her until she brought forth her Son—the firstborn, and he called His Name Jesus.
