1 Panguva iyoyo mambo Herodhi akanzwa nezvaJesu
At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the fame of Jesus,
2 uye akati kuvaranda vake, “Uyu ndiJohani Mubhabhatidzi; amuka kubva kuvakafa! Ndokusaka masimba ezvishamiso achishanda maari.”
and said to his servants, “This is John the Immerser, he rose from the dead, and because of this the mighty energies are working in him.”
3 Zvino Herodhi ainge abata Johani akamusunga achibva amuisa mutorongo nokuda kwaHerodhiasi mudzimai waFiripi, mununʼuna wake,
For Herod having laid hold on John, bound him, and put him in prison, because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,
4 sezvo Johani ainge ati kwaari, “Hautenderwi kutora mukadzi uyu.”
for John was saying to him, “It is not lawful to you to have her,”
5 Herodhi aida kuuraya Johani asi aitya vanhu nokuti vaimuona somuprofita.
and willing to kill him, he feared the multitude, because as a prophet they were holding him.
6 Asi zuva rokupemberera kuberekwa kwaHerodhi rakati rasvika, mwanasikana waHerodhiasi akatamba pamberi pavo uye zvikafadza Herodhi kwazvo,
But the birthday of Herod being kept, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod,
7 zvokuti akamuvimbisa nemhiko kuti aizomupa chipi nechipi chaaizokumbira.
after which with an oath he professed to give her whatever she might ask.
8 Arayirwa namai vake mwanasikana akati, “Ndipei pano musoro waJohani Mubhabhatidzi uri mundiro.”
And she, having been instigated by her mother, says, “Give me here on a plate the head of John the Immerser”;
9 Mambo akasuwiswa nazvo, asi nokuda kwemhiko yake uye navaainge agere navo pakudya, akarayira kuti upiwe kwaari,
and the king was grieved, but because of the oaths and of those dining with him, he commanded [it] to be given;
10 ndokutuma vanhu kundogura musoro waJohani mutorongo.
and having sent, he beheaded John in the prison,
11 Uye musoro wake wakauyiwa nawo uri mundiro ukapiwa kumusikana, iye akaenda nawo kuna mai vake.
and his head was brought on a plate, and was given to the girl, and she brought [it] near to her mother.
12 Vadzidzi vaJohani vakauya vakatora mutumbi wake vakandouviga. Vakazoenda vakandoudza Jesu.
And his disciples having come, took up the body, and buried it, and having come, they told Jesus,
13 Jesu paakanzwa zvakanga zvaitika, akabvapo negwa zvisingazivikanwi nevazhinji akaenda kurenje. Vachinzwa izvi, vanhu vazhinji vakamutevera netsoka vachibva kumaguta.
and Jesus having heard, withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by Himself, and the multitudes having heard followed Him on land from the cities.
14 Paakabuda mugwa, Jesu akaona vanhu vazhinji, akavanzwira tsitsi uye akaporesa varwere vavo.
And Jesus having come forth, saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion on them, and healed their sick;
15 Zvino ava madekwana, vadzidzi vake vakauya kwaari vakati, “Tiri musango, uye kwava kusviba. Endesai vanhu ava, kuti vaende mumisha vandozvitengera zvokudya.”
and evening having come, His disciples came to Him, saying, “The place is desolate, and the hour has now past, let away the multitudes that, having gone into the villages, they may buy food for themselves.”
16 Jesu akapindura achiti, “Havafaniri kuenda. Imi vapei chavangadye.”
And Jesus said to them, “They have no need to go away—you give them to eat.”
17 Ivo vakapindura vakati, “Pano tinongova nezvingwa zvishanu nehove mbiri.”
And they say to Him, “We have nothing here except five loaves and two fishes.”
18 Akati, “Uyai nazvo kuno kwandiri.”
And He said, “Bring them to Me here.”
19 Uye akarayira kuti vanhu vagare pasi pauswa. Akatora zvingwa zvishanu nehove dziya mbiri akatarira kudenga akavonga, akazviropafadza uye akazvimedura. Ipapo akazvipa kuvadzidzi, vadzidzi vakapa vanhu.
And having commanded the multitudes to recline on the grass, and having taken the five loaves and the two fishes, having looked up to the sky, He blessed, and having broken, He gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples [gave] to the multitudes,
20 Vose vakadya vakaguta, uye vadzidzi vakaunganidza zvimedu zvainge zvasara zvikazadza matengu gumi namaviri.
and they all ate, and were filled, and they took up what was over of the broken pieces twelve hand-baskets full;
21 Vanhu vakadya vaisvika varume zviuru zvishanu pasingaverengwi vakadzi navana.
and those eating were about five thousand men, apart from women and children.
22 Pakarepo Jesu akaudza vadzidzi vake kuti vapinde mugwa vafanotungamira kuenda kune rimwe divi, iye ndokusara achiendesa vanhu vazhinji ava.
And immediately Jesus constrained His disciples to go into the boat, and to go before Him to the other side, until He might let away the multitudes;
23 Mushure mokuendesa vanhu vazhinji ava, akakwira mugomo ari oga kundonyengetera. Madekwana akasvika iye achingovako ari oga,
and having let away the multitudes, He went up to the mountain by Himself to pray, and evening having come, He was there alone,
24 asi igwa rakanga rava chinhambwe chikuru kwazvo kubva kunyika asi richitambudzwa namasaisai nokuti mhepo yairwisana naro.
and the boat was now in the midst of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
25 Panguva yechina yousiku Jesu akaenda kwavari, achifamba pamusoro pegungwa.
And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went away to them, walking on the sea,
26 Vadzidzi pavakamuona achifamba pamusoro pegungwa vakatya kwazvo. Vakaridza mhere nokutya vakati, “Hero dzangaradzimu!”
and the disciples having seen Him walking on the sea, were troubled, saying, “It is an apparition,” and from the fear they cried out;
27 Asi pakarepo Jesu akati kwavari, “Musatya, ndini!”
and immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take courage! I AM; do not be afraid.”
28 Petro akapindura akati, “Ishe, kana murimi ndirayirei kuti ndiuye kwamuri ndichifamba pamusoro pemvura.”
And Peter answering Him said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the waters”;
29 Iye akati, “Uya.” Ipapo Petro akabuda mugwa akafamba pamusoro pemvura akananga kuna Jesu.
and He said, “Come”; and having gone down from the boat, Peter walked on the waters to come to Jesus,
30 Asi akati achiona mhepo ine simba, akatya, ndokubva atanga kunyura, achibva adanidzira achiti, “Ishe, ndiponesei!”
but seeing the vehement wind, he was afraid, and having begun to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
31 Pakarepo Jesu akatambanudza ruoko rwake akamubata, uye akati kwaari, “Iwe wokutenda kuduku, sei wakahadzika?”
And immediately Jesus, having stretched forth the hand, laid hold of him and says to him, “Little faith! For why did you waver?”
32 Uye pavakapinda mugwa, mhepo yakanyarara.
And they having gone into the boat, the wind stilled,
33 Ipapo vaya vaiva mugwa vakamunamata vachiti, “Chokwadi muri Mwanakomana waMwari.”
and those in the boat having come, worshiped Him, saying, “You are truly God’s Son.”
34 Kuzoti vayambukira mhiri, vakaburukira paGenesareti.
And having passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret,
35 Uye varume venzvimbo iyoyo vakati vamuziva, vakatumira shoko mudunhu rose rakapoteredza. Vanhu vakauya navarwere vavo vose kwaari
and having recognized Him, the men of that place sent forth to all that surrounding region, and they brought to Him all who were ill,
36 vakamukumbira zvikuru kuti abvumire varwere kuti vangobata mupendero wenguo yake uye vose vakamubata vakaporeswa.
and were calling on Him that they might only touch the fringe of His garment, and as many as touched were saved.
