Приче Соломонове 26
1 Као снег у лето и дажд о жетви, тако не доликује безумноме част.
As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.
2 Као врабац кад прхне и ласта кад одлети, тако клетва незаслужена неће доћи.
As the wandering sparrow, as the flying swallow, so the curse that is causeless shall come home.
3 Бич коњу, узда магарцу, а батина безумницима на леђа.
A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the back of fools.
4 Не одговарај безумнику по безумљу његовом, да не будеш и ти као он.
Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
5 Одговори безумнику према безумљу његовом, да не мисли да је мудар.
Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.
6 Ко шаље безумника да му шта сврши, он одсеца себи ноге и пије неправду.
He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off his own feet, and drinketh damage.
7 Како хроми храмље ногама својим, таква је беседа у устима безумних.
The legs hang limp from the lame; so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
8 Као да баца драги камен у гомилу камења, тако ради ко чини част безумноме.
As a small stone in a heap of stones, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.
9 Као трн кад дође у руку пијаноме, таква је беседа у устима безумних.
As a thorn that cometh into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
10 Много муке задаје свима ко плаћа безумнику и ко плаћа преступницима.
A master performeth all things; but he that stoppeth a fool is as one that stoppeth a flood.
11 Као што се пас повраћа на своју бљувотину, тако безумник понавља своје безумље.
As a dog that returneth to his vomit, so is a fool that repeateth his folly.
12 Јеси ли видео човека који мисли да је мудар? Више има надања од безумнога него од њега.
Seest thou a man wise in his own eyes? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
13 Лењивац говори: Љути је лав на путу, лав је на улицама.
The sluggard saith: 'There is a lion in the way; yea, a lion is in the streets.'
14 Као што се врата обрћу на чеповима својим, тако ленивац на постељи својој.
The door is turning upon its hinges, and the sluggard is still upon his bed.
15 Ленивац крије руку своју у недра, тешко му је принети је к устима.
The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish; it wearieth him to bring it back to his mouth.
16 Ленивац мисли да је мудрији од седморице који одговарају разумно.
The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men that give wise answer.
17 Пса за уши хвата ко се пролазећи жести за туђу распру.
He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife not his own, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.
18 Какав је безумник који баца искре и стреле смртне,
As a madman who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death;
19 Такав је сваки који превари ближњег свог па онда вели: Шалио сам се.
So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith: 'Am not I in sport?'
20 Кад нестане дрва, угаси се огањ; тако кад нема опадача, престаје распра.
Where no wood is, the fire goeth out; and where there is no whisperer, contention ceaseth.
21 Угаљ је за жеравицу, дрва за огањ, а човек свадљивац да распаљује свађу.
As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.
22 Речи су опадачеве као речи избијених, али силазе унутра у трбух.
The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the body.
23 Као сребрна пена којом се обложи цреп, такве су усне непријатељске и зло срце.
Burning lips and a wicked heart are like an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.
24 Ненавидник се претвара устима својим, а у срцу слаже превару.
He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, but he layeth up deceit within him.
25 Кад говори умиљатим гласом, не веруј му, јер му је у срцу седам гадова.
When he speaketh fair, believe him not; for there are seven abominations in his heart.
26 Мржња се покрива лукавством, али се злоћа њена открива на збору.
Though his hatred be concealed with deceit, his wickedness shall be revealed before the congregation.
27 Ко јаму копа, у њу ће пасти; и ко камен ваља, на њега ће се превалити.
Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein; and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him.
28 Језик лажан мрзи на оне које сатире, и уста која ласкају граде погибао.
A lying tongue hateth those that are crushed by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
