Приче Соломонове 13
1 Мудар син слуша наставу оца свог; а подсмевач не слуша укоре.
A WISE son [heareth] his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
2 Од плода уста својих сваки ће јести добро, а душа неваљалих људи насиље.
A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the treacherous [shall eat] violence.
3 Ко чува уста своја, чува своју душу; ко разваљује усне, пропада.
He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his life: [but] he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.
4 Жељна је душа лењивчева, али нема ништа; а душа вредних људи обогатиће се.
The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
5 На лажну реч мрзи праведник; а безбожник се мрази и срамоти.
A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.
6 Правда чува оног који ходи безазлено; а безбожност обара грешника.
Righteousness guardeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
7 Има ко се гради богат а нема ништа, и ко се гради сиромах а има велико благо.
There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great wealth.
8 Откуп је за живот човеку богатство његово, а сиромах не слуша претње.
The ransom of a man’s life is his riches: but the poor heareth no threatening.
9 Видело праведничко светли се, а жижак безбожнички угасиће се.
The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
10 Од охолости бива само свађа, а који примају савет, у њих је мудрост.
By pride cometh only contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
11 Благо које се таштином тече умањује се, а ко сабира руком, умножава.
Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall have increase.
12 Дуго надање мори срце, и жеља је испуњена дрво животно.
Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.
13 Ко презире реч сам себи уди; а ко се боји заповести, платиће му се.
Whoso despiseth the word bringeth destruction on himself: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
14 Наука је мудрога извор животни да се сачува пругала смртних.
The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
15 Добар разум даје љубав, а пут је безаконички храпав.
Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of the treacherous is rugged.
16 Сваки паметан човек ради с разумом, а безуман разноси безумље.
Every prudent man worketh with knowledge: but a fool spreadeth out folly.
17 Гласник безбожан пада у зло, а веран је посланик лек.
A wicked messenger falleth into evil: but a faithful ambassador is health.
18 Сиромаштво и срамота доћи ће на оног који одбацује наставу; а ко чува карање, прославиће се.
Poverty and shame [shall be to] him that refuseth correction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
19 Испуњена је жеља сласт души, а безумнима је мрско одступити ода зла.
The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.
20 Ко ходи с мудрима постаје мудар, а ко се држи с безумницима постаје гори.
Walk with wise men, and thou shalt be wise: but the companion of fools shall smart for it.
21 Грешнике гони зло, а праведницима се враћа добро.
Evil pursueth sinners: but the righteous shall be recompensed with good.
22 Добар човек оставља наследство синовима синова својих, а грешниково имање чува се праведнику.
A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children; and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous.
23 Изобила хране има на њиви сиромашкој, а има ко пропада са зле управе.
Much food [is in] the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed by reason of injustice.
24 Ко жали прут, мрзи на сина свог; а ко га љуби, кара га за времена.
He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
25 Праведник једе, и сита му је душа; а трбух безбожницима нема доста.
The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
