1 А кад дође Ровоам у Јерусалим, сазва дом Јудин и Венијаминов, сто и осамдесет хиљада одабраних војника, да зарате на Израиља да поврате царство Ровоаму.
And when Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, who were warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.
2 Али дође реч Господња Семаји, човеку Божјем, говорећи:
But the word of Jehovah came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
3 Кажи Ровоаму сину Соломуновом, цару Јудином и свим синовима Израиљевим од Јуде и Венијамина, и реци:
Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
4 Овако вели Господ: Не идите и не бијте се с браћом својом, вратите се свак к својој кући, јер сам ја наредио да тако буде. И они послушаше реч Господњу и вратише се и не идоше на Јеровоама.
Thus says Jehovah, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers. Return every man to his house. For this thing is of me. So they hearkened to the words of Jehovah, and returned from going against Jeroboam.
5 И Ровоам седе у Јерусалиму, и сазида тврде градове у земљи Јудиној;
And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah.
6 Сазида Витлејем и Итам и Текују,
He built Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,
7 И Вет-Сур и Сохот и Одолам,
And Beth-zur, and Soco, and Adullam,
8 И Гат и Марису и Зиф,
and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,
9 И Адораим и Ахис и Азику,
and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,
10 И Сарају и Ејалон и Хеврон који је у земљи Јудиној и Венијаминовој тврди градови.
and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.
11 А кад утврди те градове, намести у њима заповеднике, и стаје за жито и за уље и за вино,
And he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of victuals, and oil and wine.
12 И у сваком граду штитова и копаља, и утврди их јако. Тако његов беше Јуда и Венијамин.
And in every city he put shields and spears, and made them exceedingly strong. And Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.
13 И свештеници и Левити, који беху по свему Израиљу, сабраше се к њему из свих крајева својих.
And the priests and the Levites who were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their border.
14 Јер оставише Левити подграђа своја и достојања своја, и отидоше у јудејску и у Јерусалим, јер их отера Јеровоам и синови његови да не врше службе свештеничке Господу.
For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem. For Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, that they should not execute the priest's office to Jehovah.
15 И постави себи свештенике за висине и за ђаволе и за теоце, које начини.
And he appointed priests for him for the high places, and for the he-goats, and for the calves which he had made.
16 А за њима из свих племена Израиљевих који управише срце своје да траже Господа Бога Израиљевог, дођоше у Јерусалим да принесу жртву Господу Богу отаца својих.
And after them, such as set their hearts to seek Jehovah, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem out of all the tribes of Israel to sacrifice to Jehovah, the God of their fathers.
17 И тако утврдише царство Јудино, и укрепише Ровоама сина Соломуновог за три године, јер за те три године хођаху путем Давидовим и Соломуновим.
So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong three years. For they walked three years in the way of David and Solomon.
18 А Ровоам се ожени Маелетом, кћерју Јеримота сина Давидовог и Авихаилом, кћерју Есијава сина Јесејевог,
And Rehoboam took him a wife, Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse.
19 Која му роди синове: Јеуса и Самарију и Зама.
And she bore sons for him: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.
20 А после ње ожени се Махом кћерју Авесаломовом, која му роди Авију и Атаја и Зиву и Селомита.
And after her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom. And she bore for him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
21 А љубљаше Ровоам Маху кћер Авесаломову већма од свих жена својих и иноча својих; јер имаше осамнаест жена и шездесет иноча, и роди двадесет и осам синова и шездесет кћери.
And Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines. For he took eighteen wives, and thirty concubines, and begot twenty-eight sons and thirty daughters.
22 И Ровоам постави Авију, сина Машиног, поглаваром и кнезом над браћом његовом, јер га хтеде поставити царем.
And Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah to be chief, the ruler among his brothers. For he intended to make him king.
23 И мудро радећи растури све синове своје по свим крајевима Јудиним и Венијаминовим, по свим тврдим градовима, и даде им хране изобила, и доведе им много жена.
And he dealt wisely, and dispersed all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to every fortified city. And he gave them provisions in abundance. And he sought for them many wives.
