1 Ja rekoh u srcu svom: daj da te okušam veseljem; uživaj dobra. Ali gle, i to bješe taština.

2 Smijehu rekoh: luduješ; i veselju: šta to radiš?

3 Razmišljah u srcu svom da puštam tijelo svoje na piæe, i srcem svojim upravljajuæi mudro da se držim ludosti dokle ne vidim šta bi dobro bilo sinovima ljudskim da èine pod nebom dok su živi.

4 Velika djela uèinih: sazidah sebi kuæe, nasadih sebi vinograde;

5 Naèinih sebi vrtove i voænjake, i nasadih u njima svakojakih drveta rodnijeh;
to make to/for me garden and park and to plant in/on/with them tree all fruit
6 Naèinih sebi jezera vodena da zaljevam iz njih šumu gdje rastu drveta;
to make to/for me pool water to/for to water: watering from them wood to spring tree
7 Nabavih sebi sluga i sluškinja, i imah sluga roðenijeh u kuæi mojoj; i imah goveda i ovaca više od svijeh koji biše prije mene u Jerusalimu;
to buy servant/slave and maidservant and son: child house: home to be to/for me also livestock cattle and flock to multiply to be to/for me from all which/that to be to/for face: before my in/on/with Jerusalem
8 Takoðer nakupih sebi srebra i zlata i zaklada od careva i zemalja; nabavih sebi pjevaèa i pjevaèica i milina ljudskih, i sprava muzièkih svakojakih.
to gather to/for me also silver: money and gold and possession king and [the] province to make: offer to/for me to sing and to sing and luxury son: child [the] man concubine and concubine
9 I tako postah veæi i silniji od svijeh koji biše prije mene u Jerusalimu; i mudrost moja osta sa mnom.

10 I što god željahu oèi moje, ne branjah im niti ukraæivah srcu svojemu kakoga veselja, nego se srce moje veseljaše sa svakoga truda mojega, i to mi bijaše dio od svakoga truda mojega.

11 A kad pogledah na sva djela svoja što uradiše ruke moje, i na trud kojim se trudih da uradim, gle, sve bješe taština i muka duhu, i nema koristi pod suncem.

12 Tada se obratih da vidim mudrost i ludost i bezumlje, jer šta bi èinio èovjek koji bi nastao poslije cara? što je veæ uèinjeno.

13 I vidjeh da je bolja mudrost od ludosti, kao što je bolja svjetlost od mraka.

14 Mudri ima oèi u glavi, a bezumni ide po mraku; ali takoðer doznah da jednako biva svjema.

15 Zato rekoh u srcu svom: meni æe biti kao bezumniku što biva; šta æe mi dakle pomoæi što sam mudar? I rekoh u srcu svom: i to je taština.

16 Jer se neæe spominjati mudarac kao ni bezumnik dovijeka; jer što sada jest, sve se zaboravlja poslije, i mudarac umire kao i bezumnik.
for nothing memorial to/for wise with [the] fool to/for forever: enduring in/on/with which/that already [the] day [the] to come (in): come [the] all to forget and how? to die [the] wise with [the] fool
17 Zato mi omrze život, jer mi nije milo što biva pod suncem, jer je sve taština i muka duhu.

18 I omrze mi sav trud moj oko kojega se trudih pod suncem, jer æu ga ostaviti èovjeku koji æe nastati nakon mene.
and to hate I [obj] all trouble my which/that I laborious underneath: under [the] sun which/that to rest him to/for man which/that to be after me
19 I ko zna hoæe li biti mudar ili lud? i opet æe biti gospodar od svega truda mojega oko kojega se trudih i mudrovah pod suncem. I to je taština.
and who? to know wise to be or fool and to domineer in/on/with all trouble my which/that to toil and which/that be wise underneath: under [the] sun also this vanity
20 Zato doðoh na to da mi srce izgubi nadanje o svakom trudu oko kojega se trudih pod suncem.
and to turn: turn I to/for to despair [obj] heart my upon all [the] trouble which/that to toil underneath: under [the] sun
21 Jer ima ljudi koji se trude mudro i razumno i pravo, pa to ostavljaju u dio drugome koji se nije trudio oko toga. I to je taština i veliko zlo.
for there man which/that trouble his in/on/with wisdom and in/on/with knowledge and in/on/with skill and to/for man which/that not to toil in/on/with him to give: put him portion his also this vanity and distress: evil many
22 Jer šta ima èovjek od svega truda svoga i od muke srca svoga, koju podnosi pod suncem?
for what? to be to/for man in/on/with all trouble his and in/on/with striving heart his which/that he/she/it laborious underneath: under [the] sun
23 Jer su svi dani njegovi muka a poslovi njegovi briga; ni noæu se ne odmara srce njegovo. I to je taština.
for all day his pain and vexation task his also in/on/with night not to lie down: sleep heart his also this vanity he/she/it
24 Nije li dakle dobro èovjeku da jede i pije i da gleda da mu je duši dobro od truda njegova? Ja vidjeh i to da je iz ruke Božije.
nothing pleasant in/on/with man which/that to eat and to drink and to see: enjoy [obj] soul: myself his good in/on/with trouble his also this to see: see I for from hand: power [the] God he/she/it
25 Jer ko je jeo i uživao više nego ja?
for who? to eat and who? to enjoy outside from me
26 Jer èovjeku koji mu je po volji daje mudrost i razum i radost, a grješniku daje muku da sabira i skuplja da da onome koji je po volji Bogu. I to je taština i muka duhu.
