1 I Hiram car Tirski posla sluge svoje k Solomunu èuvši da su ga pomazali za cara na mjesto oca njegova, jer Hiram ljubljaše Davida svagda.
Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the place of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David.
2 A Solomun posla ka Hiramu i poruèi mu:
Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,
3 Ti znaš da David otac moj nije mogao sagraditi doma imenu Gospoda Boga svojega od ratova kojima ga opkoliše, dokle ih Gospod ne položi pod noge njegove.
"You know how that David my father could not build a house for the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.
4 A sada Gospod Bog moj dao mi je mir otsvuda, nemam nijednoga neprijatelja ni zle smetnje.
But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side. There is neither adversary, nor evil occurrence.
5 Zato, evo, velim da sagradim dom imenu Gospoda Boga svojega, kao što je rekao Gospod Davidu ocu mojemu govoreæi: sin tvoj, kojega æu posaditi mjesto tebe na prijesto tvoj, on æe sagraditi dom imenu mojemu.
Look, I purpose to build a house for the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spoke to David my father, saying, 'Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place, he shall build the house for my name.'
6 Zato zapovjedi sada neka mi nasijeku drva kedrovijeh na Livanu, a sluge æe moje biti sa slugama tvojim, a platu slugama tvojim daæu ti kako god reèeš; jer ti znaš da u nas nema ljudi koji umiju sjeæi drva kao Sidonci.
Now therefore command that they cut me cedar trees out of Lebanon. My servants shall be with your servants; and I will give you wages for your servants according to all that you shall say. For you know that there is not among us any who knows how to cut timber like the Sidonians."
7 I kad Hiram èu rijeèi Solomunove, obradova se veoma i reèe: da je blagosloven Gospod danas, koji dade Davidu mudra sina nad onijem narodom velikim.
It happened, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, "Blessed is the LORD this day, who has given to David a wise son over this great people."
8 I posla Hiram Solomunu, i poruèi: èuo sam èega radi si slao k meni; ja æu uèiniti svu volju tvoju za drva kedrova i za drva jelova.
Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, "I have heard the message which you have sent to me. I will satisfy all your desire concerning cedar wood and concerning the wood of evergreens.
9 Moje æe sluge snijeti s Livana na more, i ja æu ih povezati u splavove i spustiti morem do mjesta koje mi kažeš, i ondje æu razvezati, pa ih nosi; a ti æeš uèiniti moju volju i dati hranu èeljadi mojoj.
My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon to the sea. I will make them into rafts to go by sea to the place that you shall appoint me, and will cause them to be broken up there, and you shall receive them. You shall accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household."
10 I tako davaše Hiram Solomunu drva kedrova i drva jelova, koliko mu bješe volja.
So Hiram gave Solomon timber of cedar and timber of fir according to all his desire.
11 A Solomun davaše Hiramu dvadeset tisuæa kora pšenice za hranu èeljadi njegovoj, i dvadeset kora ulja cijeðenoga; toliko davaše Solomun Hiramu svake godine.
Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand cors of wheat for food to his household, and twenty thousand baths of pure oil. Solomon gave this to Hiram year by year.
12 I Gospod dade mudrost Solomunu kako mu bješe obrekao, i bješe mir izmeðu Hirama i Solomuna, i uhvatiše vjeru meðu sobom.
The LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and the two of them made a covenant.
13 I odredi Solomun ljude iz svega Izrailja, i bi odreðenijeh trideset tisuæa ljudi.
King Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.
14 I slaše ih na Livan po deset tisuæa svakoga mjeseca naizmjence; jedan mjesec bijahu na Livanu, a dva mjeseca kod kuæa svojih. A Adoniram bješe nad ovijem poslenicima.
He sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses; a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home; and Adoniram was over the men subject to forced labor.
15 I imaše Solomun sedamdeset tisuæa nosilaca i osamdeset tisuæa tesaèa u planini,
Solomon had seventy thousand who bore burdens, and eighty thousand who were stone cutters in the mountains;
16 Osim nastojnika Solomunovijeh, koji bijahu nad tijem poslom, tri tisuæe i trista, koji upravljahu narodom koji poslovaše taj posao.
besides Solomon's chief officers who were over the work, three thousand and six hundred, who bore rule over the people who labored in the work.
17 I zapovjedi car da snose veliko kamenje, skupocjeno kamenje za temelj domu, tesano kamenje.
The king commanded, and they cut out great stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with worked stone.
18 I tesahu poslenici Solomunovi i poslenici Hiramovi i Givleji, i pripravljahu drvo i kamenje da se zida dom.
Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders and the Gebalites cut them, and prepared the timber and the stones to build the house.
