1 anantara. m sa samudrata. te punarupade. s.tu. m praarebhe, tatastatra bahujanaanaa. m samaagamaat sa saagaropari naukaamaaruhya samupavi. s.ta. h; sarvve lokaa. h samudrakuule tasthu. h|
And again He began to teach by the sea: and a great multitude is gathered unto Him, so that He having gone into a ship, sat on the sea; and the whole multitude was at the sea on the land.
2 tadaa sa d. r.s. taantakathaabhi rbahuupadi. s.tavaan upadi"sa. m"sca kathitavaan,
And He was teaching them many things in parables, and in His teaching He said to them,
3 avadhaana. m kuruta, eko biijavaptaa biijaani vaptu. m gata. h;
Hear: Behold, a sower went out to sow:
4 vapanakaale kiyanti biijaani maargapaa"sve patitaani, tata aakaa"siiyapak. si. na etya taani cakhaadu. h|
and it came to pass while he was sowing, some fell by the wayside, and the fowls came and devoured it.
5 kiyanti biijaani svalpam. rttikaavatpaa. saa. nabhuumau patitaani taani m. rdolpatvaat "siighrama"nkuritaani;
And other fell upon stones, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:
6 kintuudite suuryye dagdhaani tathaa muulaano naadhogatatvaat "su. skaa. ni ca|
and when the sun arose, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.
7 kiyanti biijaani ka. n.takivanamadhye patitaani tata. h ka. n.takaani sa. mv. rdvya taani jagrasustaani na ca phalitaani|
And other fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up, and choked it, and it gave no fruit.
8 tathaa kiyanti biijaanyuttamabhuumau patitaani taani sa. mv. rdvya phalaanyutpaaditaani kiyanti biijaani tri. m"sadgu. naani kiyanti. sa. s.tigu. naani kiyanti "satagu. naani phalaani phalitavanti|
And other fell in good ground, and springing up and growing, gave fruit, and produced, one thirty, and one sixty, and one a hundred.
9 atha sa taanavadat yasya "srotu. m kar. nau sta. h sa "s. r.notu|
And He said, Let the one having ears to hear, hear.
10 tadanantara. m nirjanasamaye tatsa"ngino dvaada"sa"si. syaa"sca ta. m tadd. r.s. taantavaakyasyaartha. m papracchu. h|
And when they were alone, and those around Him along with the twelve asked Him the parable.
11 tadaa sa taanuditavaan ii"svararaajyasya niguu. dhavaakya. m boddhu. m yu. smaakamadhikaaro. asti;
And He said to them, To you it has been given the mystery of the kingdom of God: but to them who are without, all things are in parables:
12 kintu ye vahirbhuutaa. h "te pa"syanta. h pa"syanti kintu na jaananti, "s. r.nvanta. h "s. r.nvanti kintu na budhyante, cettai rmana. hsu kadaapi parivarttite. su te. saa. m paapaanyamocayi. syanta," atohetostaan prati d. r.s. taantaireva taani mayaa kathitaani|
in order that seeing they may see, and not know; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest they may turn, and their sins may he forgiven unto them.
13 atha sa kathitavaan yuuya. m kimetad d. r.s. taantavaakya. m na budhyadhve? tarhi katha. m sarvvaan d. r.s. taantaana bhotsyadhve?
And He says to them, Do you not understand this parable? and how will you know all parables?
14 biijavaptaa vaakyaruupaa. ni biijaani vapati;
The sower sows the word.
15 tatra ye ye lokaa vaakya. m "s. r.nvanti, kintu "srutamaatraat "saitaan "siighramaagatya te. saa. m mana. hsuuptaani taani vaakyaruupaa. ni biijaanyapanayati taeva uptabiijamaargapaar"svesvaruupaa. h|
And those who are by the way-side, where the word is sown; and when they hear it, immediately Satan comes, and takes away the word which was sown in their hearts.
16 ye janaa vaakya. m "srutvaa sahasaa paramaanandena g. rhlanti, kintu h. rdi sthairyyaabhaavaat ki ncit kaalamaatra. m ti. s.thanti tatpa"scaat tadvaakyaheto. h
And those who are sowed upon the rocks are likewise, those who, when they may hear the word, immediately with joy receive it.
17 kutracit kle"se upadrave vaa samupasthite tadaiva vighna. m praapnuvanti taeva uptabiijapaa. saa. nabhuumisvaruupaa. h|
And they have no root in themselves, but are temporary; then tribulation or persecution arising on account of the word, they are immediately offended:
18 ye janaa. h kathaa. m "s. r.nvanti kintu saa. msaarikii cintaa dhanabhraanti rvi. sayalobha"sca ete sarvve upasthaaya taa. m kathaa. m grasanti tata. h maa viphalaa bhavati (aiōn )
and others are those who are sown among the thorns; they are those hearing the word,
19 taeva uptabiijasaka. n.takabhuumisvaruupaa. h|
and the cares of the age, and the deceitfulness of riches, and desires concerning other things coming into them, choke out the word, and it becomes unfruitful. (aiōn )
20 ye janaa vaakya. m "srutvaa g. rhlanti te. saa. m kasya vaa tri. m"sadgu. naani kasya vaa. sa. s.tigu. naani kasya vaa "satagu. naani phalaani bhavanti taeva uptabiijorvvarabhuumisvaruupaa. h|
And these are they who are sown on good ground; whosoever hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirty, some sixty, and some a hundred.
21 tadaa so. aparamapi kathitavaan kopi jano diipaadhaara. m parityajya dro. nasyaadha. h kha. tvaayaa adhe vaa sthaapayitu. m diipamaanayati ki. m?
And He said to them; Whether does the light come, that it may be placed under a bushel, or under a bed? is it not that it may be placed on a candlestick?
22 atoheto ryanna prakaa"sayi. syate taad. rg lukkaayita. m kimapi vastu naasti; yad vyakta. m na bhavi. syati taad. r"sa. m gupta. m kimapi vastu naasti|
For there is nothing hidden which may not be made manifest; neither is there any thing concealed, but that it may come into the light.
23 yasya "srotu. m kar. nau sta. h sa "s. r.notu|
If any one has ears to hear, let him hear.
24 aparamapi kathitavaan yuuya. m yad yad vaakya. m "s. r.nutha tatra saavadhaanaa bhavata, yato yuuya. m yena parimaa. nena parimaatha tenaiva parimaa. nena yu. smadarthamapi parimaasyate; "srotaaro yuuya. m yu. smabhyamadhika. m daasyate|
And He said to them. See what you hear: with what measure you measure it shall be measured unto you: and it shall be added unto you who hear.
25 yasyaa"sraye varddhate tasmai aparamapi daasyate, kintu yasyaa"sraye na varddhate tasya yat ki ncidasti tadapi tasmaan ne. syate|
For whosoever has, it shall be given unto him: and he who has not, it shall be taken from him even that which he has.
26 anantara. m sa kathitavaan eko loka. h k. setre biijaanyuptvaa
And He said, Thus is the kingdom of God, as a man may cast seed on the ground;
27 jaagara. nanidraabhyaa. m divaani"sa. m gamayati, parantu tadviija. m tasyaaj naataruupe. naa"nkurayati varddhate ca;
and he may sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed germinates and grows, as he does not know.
28 yatoheto. h prathamata. h patraa. ni tata. h para. m ka. ni"saani tatpa"scaat ka. ni"sapuur. naani "sasyaani bhuumi. h svayamutpaadayati;
The earth spontaneously brings forth fruit; first the blade, then the ear, then the full corn in the ear.
29 kintu phale. su pakke. su "sasyacchedanakaala. m j naatvaa sa tatk. sa. na. m "sasyaani chinatti, anena tulyamii"svararaajya. m|
And when the fruit may develop, immediately he thrusts in the sickle, because the harvest is at hand.
30 puna. h so. akathayad ii"svararaajya. m kena sama. m? kena vastunaa saha vaa tadupamaasyaami?
And He said, To what may we liken the kingdom of God? or in what parable may we present it?
31 tat sar. sapaikena tulya. m yato m. rdi vapanakaale sar. sapabiija. m sarvvap. rthiviisthabiijaat k. sudra. m
Tis like a grain of mustard seed, which when it may be sown upon the earth, is the smallest of all seeds which are upon the earth,
32 kintu vapanaat param a"nkurayitvaa sarvva"saakaad b. rhad bhavati, tasya b. rhatya. h "saakhaa"sca jaayante tatastacchaayaa. m pak. si. na aa"srayante|
and when it may be sowed, it springs up, and becomes the greatest of herbs, and produces great branches; so that the birds of the heavens are able to lodge under its shadow.
33 ittha. m te. saa. m bodhaanuruupa. m so. anekad. r.s. taantaistaanupadi. s.tavaan,
And in many such parables He continued to speak the word to them, as they were able to hear.
34 d. r.s. taanta. m vinaa kaamapi kathaa. m tebhyo na kathitavaan pa"scaan nirjane sa "si. syaan sarvvad. r.s. taantaartha. m bodhitavaan|
And without a parable He did not speak to them: and He privately expounded all things to His disciples.
35 taddinasya sandhyaayaa. m sa tebhyo. akathayad aagacchata vaya. m paara. m yaama|
And He says to them, on that day, it being evening, Let us go away to the other side.
36 tadaa te lokaan vis. rjya tamavilamba. m g. rhiitvaa naukayaa pratasthire; aparaa api naavastayaa saha sthitaa. h|
And leaving the multitude, they receive Him, as He was in the ship; and other ships were also with Him.
37 tata. h para. m mahaajha nbh"sagamaat nau rdolaayamaanaa tara"nge. na jalai. h puur. naabhavacca|
And there was a great storm of wind: and the waves were dashing into the ship, so that it was already filled.
38 tadaa sa naukaaca"scaadbhaage upadhaane "siro nidhaaya nidrita aasiit tataste ta. m jaagarayitvaa jagadu. h, he prabho, asmaaka. m praa. naa yaanti kimatra bhavata"scintaa naasti?
And He was in the stern, sleeping on a pillow: and they awaken Him, and say to Him; Teacher, is there no care to thee that we perish?
39 tadaa sa utthaaya vaayu. m tarjitavaan samudra ncoktavaan "saanta. h susthira"sca bhava; tato vaayau niv. rtte. abdhirnistara"ngobhuut|
And being awakened, He said to the sea, Be calm, be quiet. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 tadaa sa taanuvaaca yuuya. m kuta etaad. rk"sa"nkaakulaa bhavata? ki. m vo vi"svaaso naasti?
And He said to them, Why are you so cowardly? how have you not faith?
41 tasmaatte. atiivabhiitaa. h paraspara. m vaktumaarebhire, aho vaayu. h sindhu"scaasya nide"sagraahi. nau kiid. rgaya. m manuja. h|
And they feared with a great fear, and continued to say to one another, Who then is this, because the wind and the sea obey Him?
