1 apara. m tadvi"sraamapraapte. h pratij naa yadi ti. s.thati tarhyasmaaka. m ka"scit cet tasyaa. h phalena va ncito bhavet vayam etasmaad bibhiima. h|
We may fear, then, lest a promise being left of entering into His rest, anyone of you may seem to have come short,
2 yato. asmaaka. m samiipe yadvat tadvat te. saa. m samiipe. api susa. mvaada. h pracaarito. abhavat kintu tai. h "sruta. m vaakya. m taan prati ni. sphalam abhavat, yataste "srotaaro vi"svaasena saarddha. m tannaami"srayan|
for we also are having good news proclaimed, even as they, but the word heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard,
3 tad vi"sraamasthaana. m vi"svaasibhirasmaabhi. h pravi"syate yatastenokta. m, "aha. m kopaat "sapatha. m k. rtavaan ima. m, pravek. syate janairetai rna vi"sraamasthala. m mama|" kintu tasya karmmaa. ni jagata. h s. r.s. tikaalaat samaaptaani santi|
for we enter into the rest—we who believed, as He said, “So I swore in My anger, They will [not] enter into My rest”; and yet the works were done from the foundation of the world,
4 yata. h kasmi. m"scit sthaane saptama. m dinamadhi tenedam ukta. m, yathaa, "ii"svara. h saptame dine svak. rtebhya. h sarvvakarmmabhyo vi"sa"sraama|"
for He spoke in a certain place concerning the seventh [day] thus: “And God rested in the seventh day from all His works”;
5 kintvetasmin sthaane punastenocyate, yathaa, "pravek. syate janairetai rna vi"sraamasthala. m mama|"
and in this [place] again, “They will [not] enter into My rest”;
6 phalatastat sthaana. m kai"scit prave. s.tavya. m kintu ye puraa susa. mvaada. m "srutavantastairavi"svaasaat tanna pravi. s.tam,
since then, it remains for some to enter into it, and those who first heard good news did not enter in because of unbelief—
7 iti heto. h sa punaradyanaamaka. m dina. m niruupya diirghakaale gate. api puurvvoktaa. m vaaca. m daayuudaa kathayati, yathaa, "adya yuuya. m kathaa. m tasya yadi sa. m"srotumicchatha, tarhi maa kurutedaanii. m ka. thinaani manaa. msi va. h|"
again He limits a certain day, “Today,” in David saying, after so long a time, as it has been said, “Today, if you may hear His voice, you may not harden your hearts,”
8 apara. m yiho"suuyo yadi taan vya"sraamayi. syat tarhi tata. h param aparasya dinasya vaag ii"svare. na naakathayi. syata|
for if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken after these things concerning another day;
9 ata ii"svarasya prajaabhi. h karttavya eko vi"sraamasti. s.thati|
there remains, then, a Sabbath rest to the people of God,
10 aparam ii"svaro yadvat svak. rtakarmmabhyo vi"sa"sraama tadvat tasya vi"sraamasthaana. m pravi. s.to jano. api svak. rtakarmmabhyo vi"sraamyati|
for he who entered into His rest, he also rested from his works, as God from His own.
11 ato vaya. m tad vi"sraamasthaana. m prave. s.tu. m yataamahai, tadavi"svaasodaahara. nena ko. api na patatu|
May we be diligent, then, to enter into that rest, that no one may fall in the same example of the unbelief,
12 ii"svarasya vaado. amara. h prabhaavavi"si. s.ta"sca sarvvasmaad dvidhaarakha"ngaadapi tiik. s.na. h, apara. m praa. naatmano rgranthimajjayo"sca paribhedaaya vicchedakaarii manasa"sca sa"nkalpaanaam abhipretaanaa nca vicaaraka. h|
for the Word of God is living, and working, and sharper—beyond every two-edged sword—and piercing as far as [the] division of soul and spirit, of joints and also marrows, and a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart;
13 apara. m yasya samiipe sviiyaa sviiyaa kathaasmaabhi. h kathayitavyaa tasyaagocara. h ko. api praa. nii naasti tasya d. r.s. tau sarvvamevaanaav. rta. m prakaa"sita ncaaste|
and there is not a created thing hidden before Him, but all things [are] naked and open to His eyes—with whom is our reckoning.
14 apara. m ya uccatama. m svarga. m pravi. s.ta etaad. r"sa eko vyaktirarthata ii"svarasya putro yii"surasmaaka. m mahaayaajako. asti, ato heto rvaya. m dharmmapratij naa. m d. r.dham aalambaamahai|
Having, then, a great Chief Priest having passed through the heavens—Jesus the Son of God—may we hold fast the profession,
15 asmaaka. m yo mahaayaajako. asti so. asmaaka. m du. hkhai rdu. hkhito bhavitum a"sakto nahi kintu paapa. m vinaa sarvvavi. saye vayamiva pariik. sita. h|
for we do not have a Chief Priest unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but [One] tempted in all things in like manner, [yet] without sin;
16 ataeva k. rpaa. m grahiitu. m prayojaniiyopakaaraartham anugraha. m praaptu nca vayam utsaahenaanugrahasi. mhaasanasya samiipa. m yaama. h|
we may come near, then, with freedom, to the throne of grace, that we may receive kindness, and find grace—for seasonable help.
