1 he bhraatara. h, maakidaniyaade"sasthaasu samiti. su prakaa"sito ya ii"svarasyaanugrahastamaha. m yu. smaan j naapayaami|

But, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the churches of Macedonia;

2 vastuto bahukle"sapariik. saasamaye te. saa. m mahaanando. atiivadiinataa ca vadaanyataayaa. h pracuraphalam aphalayataa. m|

because in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.

3 te svecchayaa yathaa"sakti ki ncaati"sakti daana udyuktaa abhavan iti mayaa pramaa. niikriyate|

Because I witness, that according to their ability, and beyond their ability they were anxious,

4 vaya nca yat pavitralokebhyaste. saa. m daanam upakaaraarthakam a. m"sana nca g. rhlaamastad bahununayenaasmaan praarthitavanta. h|

with much exhortation praying our favor and the fellowship of the ministry which is to the saints:

5 vaya. m yaad. rk pratyaiQk. saamahi taad. rg ak. rtvaa te. agre prabhave tata. h param ii"svarasyecchayaasmabhyamapi svaan nyavedayan|

and not as we hoped, but they gave themselves first to the Lord, and to us through the will of God:

6 ato hetostva. m yathaarabdhavaan tathaiva karinthinaa. m madhye. api tad daanagraha. na. m saadhayeti yu. smaan adhi vaya. m tiita. m praarthayaamahi|

that we should exhort Titus, that as he formerly began it, he may indeed also complete this grace unto you.

7 ato vi"svaaso vaakpa. tutaa j naana. m sarvvotsaaho. asmaasu prema caitai rgu. nai ryuuya. m yathaaparaan ati"sedhve tathaivaitena gu. nenaapyati"sedhva. m|

But as in every thing you abound, in faith, and in word, and knowledge, and in all zeal, and in divine love from you in us, that you may also abound in this philanthropy.

8 etad aham aaj nayaa kathayaamiiti nahi kintvanye. saam utsaahakaara. naad yu. smaakamapi premna. h saaralya. m pariik. situmicchataa mayaitat kathyate|

I speak not according to commandment, but through the zeal of others also proving the sincerity of your divine love.

9 yuuya ncaasmatprabho ryii"sukhrii. s.tasyaanugraha. m jaaniitha yatastasya nirdhanatvena yuuya. m yad dhanino bhavatha tadartha. m sa dhanii sannapi yu. smatk. rte nirdhano. abhavat|

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, being rich, for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might be made rich.

10 etasmin aha. m yu. smaan svavicaara. m j naapayaami| gata. m sa. mvatsaram aarabhya yuuya. m kevala. m karmma kartta. m tannahi kintvicchukataa. m prakaa"sayitumapyupaakraabhyadhva. m tato heto ryu. smatk. rte mama mantra. naa bhadraa|

And herein I give my judgement: for this is profitable to you, who not only began to do, but to be anxious, a year ago:

11 ato. adhunaa tatkarmmasaadhana. m yu. smaabhi. h kriyataa. m tena yadvad icchukataayaam utsaahastadvad ekaikasya sampadanusaare. na karmmasaadhanam api jani. syate|

but now indeed complete the work; in order that as there was a promptitude of willing, there shall also be a completion out of your ability.

12 yasmin icchukataa vidyate tena yanna dhaaryyate tasmaat so. anug. rhyata iti nahi kintu yad dhaaryyate tasmaadeva|

For if there is first a willing mind, it is acceptable according to what one may have, and not according to what he has not.

13 yata itare. saa. m viraame. na yu. smaaka nca kle"sena bhavitavya. m tannahi kintu samatayaiva|

For it is not that there may be relief to others, affliction to you, but that it may be according to equality: at this time your abundance may correspond to their deficiency,

14 varttamaanasamaye yu. smaaka. m dhanaadhikyena te. saa. m dhananyuunataa puurayitavyaa tasmaat te. saamapyaadhikyena yu. smaaka. m nyuunataa puurayi. syate tena samataa jani. syate|

that their abundance may correspond with your deficiency, in order that there may be equality:

15 tadeva "saastre. api likhitam aaste yathaa, yenaadhika. m sa. mg. rhiita. m tasyaadhika. m naabhavat yena caalpa. m sa. mg. rhiita. m tasyaalpa. m naabhavat|

as has been written, He that had much did not super-abound; and he that had little did not lack.

16 yu. smaaka. m hitaaya tiitasya manasi ya ii"svara imam udyoga. m janitavaan sa dhanyo bhavatu|

But thanks be unto God, who gives this same enthusiasm in your behalf in the heart of Titus;

17 tiito. asmaaka. m praarthanaa. m g. rhiitavaan ki nca svayam udyukta. h san svecchayaa yu. smatsamiipa. m gatavaan|

because he indeed accepted our exhortation; and being the more enthusiastic, came unto you of his own accord.

18 tena saha yo. apara eko bhraataasmaabhi. h pre. sita. h susa. mvaadaat tasya sukhyaatyaa sarvvaa. h samitayo vyaaptaa. h|

But we sent with him the brother, whose praise in the gospel is through all the churches;

19 prabho rgauravaaya yu. smaakam icchukataayai ca sa samitibhiretasyai daanasevaayai asmaaka. m sa"ngitve nyayojyata|

not only so, but having been elected by the churches our traveling companion with this philanthropy, administered by us to the glory of the Lord himself, and your promptitude:

20 yato yaa mahopaayanasevaasmaabhi rvidhiiyate taamadhi vaya. m yat kenaapi na nindyaamahe tadartha. m yataamahe|

and avoiding this, lest any one may blame us in this benefaction administered by us:

21 yata. h kevala. m prabho. h saak. saat tannahi kintu maanavaanaamapi saak. saat sadaacaara. m karttum aalocaamahe|

for we provide things honest, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also before the people.

22 taabhyaa. m sahaapara eko yo bhraataasmaabhi. h pre. sita. h so. asmaabhi rbahuvi. saye. su bahavaaraan pariik. sita udyogiiva prakaa"sita"sca kintvadhunaa yu. smaasu d. r.dhavi"svaasaat tasyotsaaho bahu vav. rdhe|

And we sent our brother along with him to them, whom we have tried, being frequently zealous in many things, but now much more zealous, with great confidence towards you.

23 yadi ka"scit tiitasya tattva. m jij naasate tarhi sa mama sahabhaagii yu. smanmadhye sahakaarii ca, aparayo rbhraatrostattva. m vaa yadi jij naasate tarhi tau samitiinaa. m duutau khrii. s.tasya pratibimbau ceti tena j naayataa. m|

Whether in behalf of Titus, my companion and fellow-laborer towards you; or our brethren, the apostles of the churches, the glory of Christ.

24 ato heto. h samitiinaa. m samak. sa. m yu. smatpremno. asmaaka. m "slaaghaayaa"sca praamaa. nya. m taan prati yu. smaabhi. h prakaa"sayitavya. m|

Moreover manifesting the exhibition of your love, and our boasting to them in your behalf, in the face of the churches.
