1 mama prathama aade"so. aya. m, praarthanaavinayanivedanadhanyavaadaa. h karttavyaa. h,
I exhort, then, first of all, there be made supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, for all men—
2 sarvve. saa. m maanavaanaa. m k. rte vi"se. sato vaya. m yat "saantatvena nirvvirodhatvena ce"scarabhakti. m viniitatva ncaacaranta. h kaala. m yaapayaamastadartha. m n. rpatiinaam uccapadasthaanaa nca k. rte te karttavyaa. h|
for kings, and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all piety and gravity,
3 yato. asmaaka. m taarakasye"svarasya saak. saat tadevottama. m graahya nca bhavati,
for this [is] right and acceptable before God our Savior,
4 sa sarvve. saa. m maanavaanaa. m paritraa. na. m satyaj naanapraapti ncecchati|
who wills all men to be saved, and to come to the full knowledge of the truth;
5 yata eko. advitiiya ii"svaro vidyate ki nce"svare maanave. su caiko. advitiiyo madhyastha. h
for [there is] one God, also one mediator of God and of men—the man Christ Jesus,
6 sa naraavataara. h khrii. s.to yii"su rvidyate ya. h sarvve. saa. m mukte rmuulyam aatmadaana. m k. rtavaan| etena yena pramaa. nenopayukte samaye prakaa"sitavya. m,
who gave Himself [as] a ransom for all—the testimony in its own times—
7 tadgho. sayitaa duuto vi"svaase satyadharmme ca bhinnajaatiiyaanaam upade"saka"scaaha. m nyayuujye, etadaha. m khrii. s.tasya naamnaa yathaatathya. m vadaami naan. rta. m kathayaami|
in regard to which I was set a preacher and apostle—truth I say in Christ, I do not lie—a teacher of nations, in faith and truth.
8 ato mamaabhimatamida. m puru. sai. h krodhasandehau vinaa pavitrakaraan uttolya sarvvasmin sthaane praarthanaa kriyataa. m|
I intend, therefore, that men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, apart from anger and deliberation;
9 tadvat naaryyo. api salajjaa. h sa. myatamanasa"sca satyo yogyamaacchaadana. m paridadhatu ki nca ke"sasa. mskaarai. h ka. nakamuktaabhi rmahaarghyaparicchadai"scaatmabhuu. sa. na. m na kurvvatya. h
also the women in like manner, in orderly apparel, to adorn themselves with modesty and sobriety, not in braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or clothing of great price,
10 sviik. rte"svarabhaktiinaa. m yo. sitaa. m yogyai. h satyarmmabhi. h svabhuu. sa. na. m kurvvataa. m|
but—which becomes women professing godly piety—through good works.
11 naarii sampuur. naviniitatvena nirvirodha. m "sik. sataa. m|
Let a woman learn in quietness in all subjection,
12 naaryyaa. h "sik. saadaana. m puru. saayaaj naadaana. m vaaha. m naanujaanaami tayaa nirvvirodhatvam aacaritavya. m|
and I do not allow a woman to teach, nor to rule a husband, but to be in quietness,
13 yata. h prathamam aadamastata. h para. m havaayaa. h s. r.s. ti rbabhuuva|
for Adam was formed first, then Eve,
14 ki ncaadam bhraantiyukto naabhavat yo. sideva bhraantiyuktaa bhuutvaatyaacaari. nii babhuuva|
and Adam was not deceived, but the woman, having been deceived, came into transgression,
15 tathaapi naariiga. no yadi vi"svaase premni pavitrataayaa. m sa. myatamanasi ca ti. s.thati tarhyapatyaprasavavartmanaa paritraa. na. m praapsyati|
and she will be saved through the childbearing, if they remain in faith, and love, and sanctification, with sobriety.
