1 he priyatamaa. h, yuuya. m sarvve. svaatmasu na vi"svasita kintu te ii"svaraat jaataa na vetyaatmana. h pariik. sadhva. m yato bahavo m. r.saabhavi. syadvaadino jaganmadhyam aagatavanta. h|
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but prove the spirits, if they are of God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world.
2 ii"svariiyo ya aatmaa sa yu. smaabhiranena pariciiyataa. m, yii"su. h khrii. s.to naraavataaro bhuutvaagata etad yena kenacid aatmanaa sviikriyate sa ii"svariiya. h|
In this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses Jesus Christ having come in the flesh, it is of God,
3 kintu yii"su. h khrii. s.to naraavataaro bhuutvaagata etad yena kenacid aatmanaa naa"ngiikriyate sa ii"svariiyo nahi kintu khrii. s.taareraatmaa, tena caagantavyamiti yu. smaabhi. h "sruta. m, sa cedaaniimapi jagati varttate|
and every spirit that does not confess Jesus Christ having come in the flesh, it is not of God; and this is that of the antichrist, which you heard that it comes, and now it is already in the world.
4 he baalakaa. h, yuuyam ii"svaraat jaataastaan jitavanta"sca yata. h sa. msaaraadhi. s.thaanakaari. no. api yu. smadadhi. s.thaanakaarii mahaan|
You are of God, little children, and you have overcome them; because greater is He who [is] in you, than he who is in the world.
5 te sa. msaaraat jaataastato heto. h sa. msaaraad bhaa. sante sa. msaara"sca te. saa. m vaakyaani g. rhlaati|
They are of the world, because they speak of this from the world, and the world hears them;
6 vayam ii"svaraat jaataa. h, ii"svara. m yo jaanaati so. asmadvaakyaani g. rhlaati ya"sce"svaraat jaato nahi so. asmadvaakyaani na g. rhlaati; anena vaya. m satyaatmaana. m bhraamakaatmaana nca paricinuma. h|
we are of God; he who is knowing God hears us; he who is not of God, does not hear us; from this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
7 he priyatamaa. h, vaya. m paraspara. m prema karavaama, yata. h prema ii"svaraat jaayate, apara. m ya. h ka"scit prema karoti sa ii"svaraat jaata ii"svara. m vetti ca|
Beloved, may we love one another, because love is of God, and everyone loving has been begotten of God, and knows God;
8 ya. h prema na karoti sa ii"svara. m na jaanaati yata ii"svara. h premasvaruupa. h|
he who is not loving did not know God, because God is love.
9 asmaasvii"svarasya premaitena praakaa"sata yat svaputre. naasmabhya. m jiivanadaanaartham ii"svara. h sviiyam advitiiya. m putra. m jaganmadhya. m pre. sitavaan|
In this was revealed the love of God in us, because God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we may live through Him;
10 vaya. m yad ii"svare priitavanta ityatra nahi kintu sa yadasmaasu priitavaan asmatpaapaanaa. m praaya"scirttaartha. m svaputra. m pre. sitavaa. m"scetyatra prema santi. s.thate|
in this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son [as] the propitiation for our sins.
11 he priyatamaa. h, asmaasu yadii"svare. naitaad. r"sa. m prema k. rta. m tarhi paraspara. m prema karttum asmaakamapyucita. m|
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another;
12 ii"svara. h kadaaca kenaapi na d. r.s. ta. h yadyasmaabhi. h paraspara. m prema kriyate tarhii"svaro. asmanmadhye ti. s.thati tasya prema caasmaasu setsyate|
no one has ever seen God; if we may love one another, God remains in us, and His love is having been perfected in us;
13 asmabhya. m tena svakiiyaatmano. m.a"so datta ityanena vaya. m yat tasmin ti. s.thaama. h sa ca yad asmaasu ti. s.thatiiti jaaniima. h|
in this we know that we remain in Him, and He in us, because of His Spirit He has given us.
14 pitaa jagatraataara. m putra. m pre. sitavaan etad vaya. m d. r.s. tvaa pramaa. nayaama. h|
And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son [as] Savior of the world;
15 yii"surii"svarasya putra etad yenaa"ngiikriyate tasmin ii"svarasti. s.thati sa ce"svare ti. s.thati|
whoever may confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him, and he in God;
16 asmaasvii"svarasya yat prema varttate tad vaya. m j naatavantastasmin vi"svaasitavanta"sca| ii"svara. h premasvaruupa. h premnii yasti. s.thati sa ii"svare ti. s.thati tasmi. m"sce"svarasti. s.thati|
and we have known and believed the love that God has in us; God is love, and he who is remaining in love, remains in God, and God in him.
17 sa yaad. r"so. asti vayamapyetasmin jagati taad. r"saa bhavaama etasmaad vicaaradine. asmaabhi ryaa pratibhaa labhyate saasmatsambandhiiyasya premna. h siddhi. h|
In this, love has been perfected with us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because even as He is, we also are in this world.
18 premni bhiiti rna varttate kintu siddha. m prema bhiiti. m niraakaroti yato bhiiti. h sayaatanaasti bhiito maanava. h premni siddho na jaata. h|
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and he who is fearing has not been made perfect in love;
19 asmaasu sa prathama. m priitavaan iti kaara. naad vaya. m tasmin priiyaamahe|
we love Him, because He first loved us;
20 ii"svare. aha. m priiya ityuktvaa ya. h ka"scit svabhraatara. m dve. s.ti so. an. rtavaadii| sa ya. m d. r.s. tavaan tasmin svabhraatari yadi na priiyate tarhi yam ii"svara. m na d. r.s. tavaan katha. m tasmin prema karttu. m "saknuyaat?
if anyone may say, “I love God,” and may hate his brother, he is a liar; for he who is not loving his brother whom he has seen, how is he able to love God whom he has not seen?
21 ata ii"svare ya. h priiyate sa sviiyabhraataryyapi priiyataam iyam aaj naa tasmaad asmaabhi rlabdhaa|
And this [is] the command we have from Him, that he who is loving God, may also love his brother.
