But I make known to you, brethren, the glad tidings which I announced to you, which also ye received, in which also ye stand,
2 yu. smaaka. m vi"svaaso yadi vitatho na bhavet tarhi susa. mvaadayuktaani mama vaakyaani smarataa. m yu. smaaka. m tena susa. mvaadena paritraa. na. m jaayate|
by which also ye are saved, (if ye hold fast the word which I announced to you as the glad tidings, ) unless indeed ye have believed in vain.
3 yato. aha. m yad yat j naapitastadanusaaraat yu. smaasu mukhyaa. m yaa. m "sik. saa. m samaarpaya. m seya. m, "saastraanusaaraat khrii. s.to. asmaaka. m paapamocanaartha. m praa. naan tyaktavaan,
For I delivered to you, in the first place, what also I had received, that Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures;
4 "sma"saane sthaapita"sca t. rtiiyadine "saastraanusaaraat punarutthaapita. h|
and that he was buried; and that he was raised the third day, according to the scriptures;
5 sa caagre kaiphai tata. h para. m dvaada"sa"si. syebhyo dar"sana. m dattavaan|
and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.
6 tata. h para. m pa nca"sataadhikasa. mkhyakebhyo bhraat. rbhyo yugapad dar"sana. m dattavaan te. saa. m kecit mahaanidraa. m gataa bahutaraa"scaadyaapi varttante|
Then he appeared to above five hundred brethren at once, of whom the most remain until now, but some also have fallen asleep.
7 tadanantara. m yaakuubaaya tatpa"scaat sarvvebhya. h preritebhyo dar"sana. m dattavaan|
Then he appeared to James; then to all the apostles;
8 sarvva"se. se. akaalajaatatulyo yo. aha. m, so. ahamapi tasya dar"sana. m praaptavaan|
and last of all, as to an abortion, he appeared to me also.
9 ii"svarasya samiti. m prati dauraatmyaacara. naad aha. m preritanaama dharttum ayogyastasmaat preritaanaa. m madhye k. sudratama"scaasmi|
For I am the least of the apostles, who am not fit to be called apostle, because I have persecuted the assembly of God.
10 yaad. r"so. asmi taad. r"sa ii"svarasyaanugrahe. naivaasmi; apara. m maa. m prati tasyaanugraho ni. sphalo naabhavat, anyebhya. h sarvvebhyo mayaadhika. h "srama. h k. rta. h, kintu sa mayaa k. rtastannahi matsahakaari. ne"svarasyaanugrahe. naiva|
But by God's grace I am what I am; and his grace, which [was] towards me, has not been vain; but I have laboured more abundantly than they all, but not I, but the grace of God which [was] with me.
11 ataeva mayaa bhavet tai rvaa bhavet asmaabhistaad. r"sii vaarttaa gho. syate saiva ca yu. smaabhi rvi"svaasena g. rhiitaa|
Whether, therefore, I or they, thus we preach, and thus ye have believed.
12 m. rtyuda"saata. h khrii. s.ta utthaapita iti vaarttaa yadi tamadhi gho. syate tarhi m. rtalokaanaam utthiti rnaastiiti vaag yu. smaaka. m madhye kai"scit kuta. h kathyate?
Now if Christ is preached that he is raised from among [the] dead, how say some among you that there is not a resurrection of [those that are] dead?
13 m. rtaanaam utthiti ryadi na bhavet tarhi khrii. s.to. api notthaapita. h
But if there is not a resurrection of [those that are] dead, neither is Christ raised:
14 khrii. s.ta"sca yadyanutthaapita. h syaat tarhyasmaaka. m gho. sa. na. m vitatha. m yu. smaaka. m vi"svaaso. api vitatha. h|
but if Christ is not raised, then, indeed, vain also [is] our preaching, and vain also your faith.
15 vaya nce"svarasya m. r.saasaak. si. no bhavaama. h, yata. h khrii. s.ta stenotthaapita. h iti saak. syam asmaabhirii"svaramadhi datta. m kintu m. rtaanaamutthiti ryadi na bhavet tarhi sa tena notthaapita. h|
And we are found also false witnesses of God; for we have witnessed concerning God that he raised the Christ, whom he has not raised if indeed [those that are] dead are not raised.
16 yato m. rtaanaamutthiti ryati na bhavet tarhi khrii. s.to. apyutthaapitatva. m na gata. h|
For if [those that are] dead are not raised, neither is Christ raised;
17 khrii. s.tasya yadyanutthaapita. h syaat tarhi yu. smaaka. m vi"svaaso vitatha. h, yuuyam adyaapi svapaape. su magnaasti. s.thatha|
but if Christ be not raised, your faith [is] vain; ye are yet in your sins.
18 apara. m khrii. s.taa"sritaa ye maanavaa mahaanidraa. m gataaste. api naa"sa. m gataa. h|
Then indeed also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
19 khrii. s.to yadi kevalamihaloke. asmaaka. m pratyaa"saabhuumi. h syaat tarhi sarvvamartyebhyo vayameva durbhaagyaa. h|
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are [the] most miserable of all men.
20 idaanii. m khrii. s.to m. rtyuda"saata utthaapito mahaanidraagataanaa. m madhye prathamaphalasvaruupo jaata"sca|
(But now Christ is raised from among [the] dead, first-fruits of those fallen asleep.
21 yato yadvat maanu. sadvaaraa m. rtyu. h praadurbhuutastadvat maanu. sadvaaraa m. rtaanaa. m punarutthitirapi pradurbhuutaa|
For since by man [came] death, by man also resurrection of [those that are] dead.
22 aadamaa yathaa sarvve mara. naadhiinaa jaataastathaa khrii. s.tena sarvve jiivayi. syante|
For as in the Adam all die, thus also in the Christ all shall be made alive.
23 kintvekaikena janena nije nije paryyaaya utthaatavya. m prathamata. h prathamajaataphalasvaruupena khrii. s.tena, dvitiiyatastasyaagamanasamaye khrii. s.tasya lokai. h|
But each in his own rank: [the] first-fruits, Christ; then those that are the Christ's at his coming.
24 tata. h param anto bhavi. syati tadaanii. m sa sarvva. m "saasanam adhipatitva. m paraakrama nca luptvaa svapitarii"svare raajatva. m samarpayi. syati|
Then the end, when he gives up the kingdom to him [who is] God and Father; when he shall have annulled all rule and all authority and power.
25 yata. h khrii. s.tasya ripava. h sarvve yaavat tena svapaadayoradho na nipaatayi. syante taavat tenaiva raajatva. m karttavya. m|
For he must reign until he put all enemies under his feet.
26 tena vijetavyo ya. h "se. saripu. h sa m. rtyureva|
[The] last enemy [that] is annulled [is] death.
27 likhitamaaste sarvvaa. ni tasya paadayo rva"siik. rtaani| kintu sarvvaa. nyeva tasya va"siik. rtaaniityukte sati sarvvaa. ni yena tasya va"siik. rtaani sa svaya. m tasya va"siibhuuto na jaata iti vyakta. m|
For he has put all things in subjection under his feet. But when he says that all things are put in subjection, [it is] evident that [it is] except him who put all things in subjection to him.
28 sarvve. su tasya va"siibhuute. su sarvvaa. ni yena putrasya va"siik. rtaani svaya. m putro. api tasya va"siibhuuto bhavi. syati tata ii"svara. h sarvve. su sarvva eva bhavi. syati|
But when all things shall have been brought into subjection to him, then the Son also himself shall be placed in subjection to him who put all things in subjection to him, that God may be all in all.)
29 apara. m paretalokaanaa. m vinimayena ye majjyante tai. h ki. m lapsyate? ye. saa. m paretalokaanaam utthiti. h kenaapi prakaare. na na bhavi. syati te. saa. m vinimayena kuto majjanamapi taira"ngiikriyate?
Since what shall the baptised for the dead do if [those that are] dead rise not at all? why also are they baptised for them?
30 vayamapi kuta. h pratida. n.da. m praa. nabhiitim a"ngiikurmmahe?
Why do we also endanger ourselves every hour?
31 asmatprabhunaa yii"sukhrii. s.tena yu. smatto mama yaa "slaaghaaste tasyaa. h "sapatha. m k. rtvaa kathayaami dine dine. aha. m m. rtyu. m gacchaami|
Daily I die, by your boasting which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord.
32 iphi. sanagare vanyapa"subhi. h saarddha. m yadi laukikabhaavaat mayaa yuddha. m k. rta. m tarhi tena mama ko laabha. h? m. rtaanaam utthiti ryadi na bhavet tarhi, kurmmo bhojanapaane. adya "svastu m. rtyu rbhavi. syati|
If, [to speak] after the manner of man, I have fought with beasts in Ephesus, what is the profit to me if [those that are] dead do not rise? let us eat and drink; for to-morrow we die.
33 ityanena dharmmaat maa bhra. m"sadhva. m| kusa. msarge. na lokaanaa. m sadaacaaro vina"syati|
Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
34 yuuya. m yathocita. m sacaitanyaasti. s.thata, paapa. m maa kurudhva. m, yato yu. smaaka. m madhya ii"svariiyaj naanahiinaa. h ke. api vidyante yu. smaaka. m trapaayai mayeda. m gadyate|
Awake up righteously, and sin not; for some are ignorant of God: I speak to you as a matter of shame.
35 apara. m m. rtalokaa. h katham utthaasyanti? kiid. r"sa. m vaa "sariira. m labdhvaa punare. syantiiti vaakya. m ka"scit prak. syati|
But some one will say, How are the dead raised? and with what body do they come?
36 he aj na tvayaa yad biijam upyate tad yadi na mriyeta tarhi na jiivayi. syate|
Fool; what thou sowest is not quickened unless it die.
37 yayaa muurttyaa nirgantavya. m saa tvayaa nopyate kintu "su. ska. m biijameva; tacca godhuumaadiinaa. m kimapi biija. m bhavitu. m "saknoti|
And what thou sowest, thou sowest not the body that shall be, but a bare grain: it may be of wheat, or some one of the rest:
38 ii"svare. neva yathaabhilaa. sa. m tasmai muurtti rdiiyate, ekaikasmai biijaaya svaa svaa muurttireva diiyate|
and God gives to it a body as he has pleased, and to each of the seeds its own body.
39 sarvvaa. ni palalaani naikavidhaani santi, manu. syapa"supak. simatsyaadiinaa. m bhinnaruupaa. ni palalaani santi|
Every flesh [is] not the same flesh, but one [is] of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another [flesh] of birds, and another of fishes.
40 apara. m svargiiyaa muurttaya. h paarthivaa muurttaya"sca vidyante kintu svargiiyaanaam ekaruupa. m teja. h paarthivaanaa nca tadanyaruupa. m tejo. asti|
And [there are] heavenly bodies, and earthly bodies: but different is the glory of the heavenly, different that of the earthly:
41 suuryyasya teja ekavidha. m candrasya tejastadanyavidha. m taaraa. naa nca tejo. anyavidha. m, taaraa. naa. m madhye. api tejasastaaratamya. m vidyate|
one [the] sun's glory, and another [the] moon's glory, and another [the] stars' glory; for star differs from star in glory.
42 tatra likhitamaaste yathaa, ‘aadipuru. sa aadam jiivatpraa. nii babhuuva, ` kintvantima aadam (khrii. s.to) jiivanadaayaka aatmaa babhuuva|
Thus also [is] the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruptibility.
43 yad upyate tat tuccha. m yaccotthaasyati tad gauravaanvita. m; yad upyate tannirbbala. m yaccotthaasyati tat "saktiyukta. m|
It is sown in dishonour, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.
44 yat "sariiram upyate tat praa. naanaa. m sadma, yacca "sariiram utthaasyati tad aatmana. h sadma| praa. nasadmasvaruupa. m "sariira. m vidyate, aatmasadmasvaruupamapi "sariira. m vidyate|
It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body: if there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual [one].
45 tatra likhitamaaste yathaa, aadipuru. sa aadam jiivatpraa. nii babhuuva, kintvantima aadam (khrii. s.to) jiivanadaayaka aatmaa babhuuva|
Thus also it is written, The first man Adam became a living soul; the last Adam a quickening spirit.
46 aatmasadma na prathama. m kintu praa. nasadmaiva tatpa"scaad aatmasadma|
But that which is spiritual [was] not first, but that which is natural, then that which is spiritual:
47 aadya. h puru. se m. rda utpannatvaat m. r.nmayo dvitiiya"sca puru. sa. h svargaad aagata. h prabhu. h|
the first man out of [the] earth, made of dust; the second man, out of heaven.
48 m. r.nmayo yaad. r"sa aasiit m. r.nmayaa. h sarvve taad. r"saa bhavanti svargiiya"sca yaad. r"so. asti svargiiyaa. h sarvve taad. r"saa bhavanti|
Such as he made of dust, such also those made of dust; and such as the heavenly [one], such also the heavenly [ones].
49 m. r.nmayasya ruupa. m yadvad asmaabhi rdhaarita. m tadvat svargiiyasya ruupamapi dhaarayi. syate|
And as we have borne the image of the [one] made of dust, we shall bear also the image of the heavenly [one].
50 he bhraatara. h, yu. smaan prati vyaaharaami, ii"svarasya raajye raktamaa. msayoradhikaaro bhavitu. m na "saknoti, ak. sayatve ca k. sayasyaadhikaaro na bhavi. syati|
But this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit God's kingdom, nor does corruption inherit incorruptibility.
51 pa"syataaha. m yu. smabhya. m niguu. dhaa. m kathaa. m nivedayaami|
Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all fall asleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 sarvvairasmaabhi rmahaanidraa na gami. syate kintvantimadine tuuryyaa. m vaaditaayaam ekasmin vipale nimi. saikamadhye sarvvai ruupaantara. m gami. syate, yatastuurii vaadi. syate, m. rtalokaa"scaak. sayiibhuutaa utthaasyanti vaya nca ruupaantara. m gami. syaama. h|
in an instant, in [the] twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 yata. h k. saya. niiyenaitena "sariire. naak. sayatva. m parihitavya. m, mara. naadhiinenaitena dehena caamaratva. m parihitavya. m|
For this corruptible must needs put on incorruptibility, and this mortal put on immortality.
54 etasmin k. saya. niiye "sariire. ak. sayatva. m gate, etasman mara. naadhiine dehe caamaratva. m gate "saastre likhita. m vacanamida. m setsyati, yathaa, jayena grasyate m. rtyu. h|
But when this corruptible shall have put on incorruptibility, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall come to pass the word written: Death has been swallowed up in victory.
Where, O death, [is] thy sting? where, O death, thy victory? (Hadēs g86)
56 m. rtyo. h ka. n.taka. m paapameva paapasya ca bala. m vyavasthaa|
Now the sting of death [is] sin, and the power of sin the law;
57 ii"svara"sca dhanyo bhavatu yata. h so. asmaaka. m prabhunaa yii"sukhrii. s.tenaasmaan jayayuktaan vidhaapayati|
but thanks to God, who gives us the victory by our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 ato he mama priyabhraatara. h; yuuya. m susthiraa ni"scalaa"sca bhavata prabho. h sevaayaa. m yu. smaaka. m pari"sramo ni. sphalo na bhavi. syatiiti j naatvaa prabho. h kaaryye sadaa tatparaa bhavata|
So then, my beloved brethren, be firm, immovable, abounding always in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in [the] Lord.
