1 he bhraatara. h, yuuya. m sarvvasmin kaaryye maa. m smaratha mayaa ca yaad. rgupadi. s.taastaad. rgaacarathaitatkaara. naat mayaa pra"sa. msaniiyaa aadhbe|
Be ye then imitators of me, as I also am of Christ.
2 tathaapi mamai. saa vaa nchaa yad yuuyamidam avagataa bhavatha,
Now I commend you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.
3 ekaikasya puru. sasyottamaa"ngasvaruupa. h khrii. s.ta. h, yo. sita"scottamaa"ngasvaruupa. h pumaan, khrii. s.tasya cottamaa"ngasvaruupa ii"svara. h|
But I would have you know that Christ is the head of every man; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
4 aparam aacchaaditottamaa"ngena yena pu. msaa praarthanaa kriyata ii"svariiyavaa. nii kathyate vaa tena sviiyottamaa"ngam avaj naayate|
Every man praying or prophesying, having a veil on his head, dishonoureth Him who is his head.
5 anaacchaaditottamaa"ngayaa yayaa yo. sitaa ca praarthanaa kriyata ii"svariiyavaa. nii kathyate vaa tayaapi sviiyottamaa"ngam avaj naayate yata. h saa mu. n.dita"sira. hsad. r"saa|
But every woman praying or prophesying with her head unveiled dishonoureth man her head; for it is even all one as if she were shaved.
6 anaacchaaditamastakaa yaa yo. sit tasyaa. h "sira. h mu. n.daniiyameva kintu yo. sita. h ke"sacchedana. m "siromu. n.dana. m vaa yadi lajjaajanaka. m bhavet tarhi tayaa sva"sira aacchaadyataa. m|
For if a woman be not covered, she may as well be shorn: but if it be shameful to a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered.
7 pumaan ii"svarasya pratimuurtti. h pratiteja. hsvaruupa"sca tasmaat tena "siro naacchaadaniiya. m kintu siimantinii pu. msa. h pratibimbasvaruupaa|
For a man indeed ought not to have his head covered, he being the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
8 yato yo. saata. h pumaan nodapaadi kintu pu. mso yo. sid udapaadi|
For the man was not of the woman; but the woman was taken out of the man:
9 adhikantu yo. sita. h k. rte pu. msa. h s. r.s. ti rna babhuuva kintu pu. msa. h k. rte yo. sita. h s. r.s. ti rbabhuuva|
nor was the man created for the sake of the woman, but the woman for the man.
10 iti heto rduutaanaam aadaraad yo. sitaa "sirasyadhiinataasuucakam aavara. na. m dharttavya. m|
For this reason ought the woman to have power on her head, because of the angels.
11 tathaapi prabho rvidhinaa pumaa. msa. m vinaa yo. sinna jaayate yo. sita nca vinaa pumaan na jaayate|
Nevertheless, neither is the man without the woman, nor the woman without the man, in the Lord.
12 yato yathaa pu. mso yo. sid udapaadi tathaa yo. sita. h pumaan jaayate, sarvvavastuuni ce"svaraad utpadyante|
For as the woman was originally from the man, so also is the man by the woman: but all things are from God.
13 yu. smaabhirevaitad vivicyataa. m, anaav. rtayaa yo. sitaa praarthana. m ki. m sud. r"sya. m bhavet?
Judge in yourselves, Is it decent for a woman to pray to God uncovered?
14 puru. sasya diirghake"satva. m tasya lajjaajanaka. m, kintu yo. sito diirghake"satva. m tasyaa gauravajanaka. m
Doth not even nature itself teach you, that if a man have long hair, it is a disgrace to him?
15 yata aacchaadanaaya tasyai ke"saa dattaa iti ki. m yu. smaabhi. h svabhaavato na "sik. syate?
but if a woman have long hair it is a glory to her; because the hair was given her as for a veil.
16 atra yadi ka"scid vivaditum icchet tarhyasmaakam ii"svariiyasamitiinaa nca taad. r"sii riiti rna vidyate|
But if any one is pleased to contend for the contrary, I answer, We have no such custom, nor any of the churches of God.
17 yu. smaabhi rna bhadraaya kintu kutsitaaya samaagamyate tasmaad etaani bhaa. samaa. nena mayaa yuuya. m na pra"sa. msaniiyaa. h|
But whilst I am declaring this, I do not commend you, that ye assemble together not for the better, but for the worse.
18 prathamata. h samitau samaagataanaa. m yu. smaaka. m madhye bhedaa. h santiiti vaarttaa mayaa "sruuyate tanmadhye ki ncit satya. m manyate ca|
For first when ye come together in the church, I hear there are divisions among you, and I partly believe it.
19 yato heto ryu. smanmadhye ye pariik. sitaaste yat prakaa"syante tadartha. m bhedai rbhavitavyameva|
For there must be even heresies among you, that they who are approved may be made manifest among you.
20 ekatra samaagatai ryu. smaabhi. h prabhaava. m bhejya. m bhujyata iti nahi;
When therefore ye thus assemble together, this is not eating the Lord's supper:
21 yato bhojanakaale yu. smaakamekaikena svakiiya. m bhak. sya. m tuur. na. m grasyate tasmaad eko jano bubhuk. sitasti. s.thati, anya"sca parit. rpto bhavati|
for in eating every one takes his own supper first; and one is hungry, and another is glutted.
22 bhojanapaanaartha. m yu. smaaka. m ki. m ve"smaani na santi? yu. smaabhi rvaa kim ii"svarasya samiti. m tucchiik. rtya diinaa lokaa avaj naayante? ityanena mayaa ki. m vaktavya. m? yuuya. m ki. m mayaa pra"sa. msaniiyaa. h? etasmin yuuya. m na pra"sa. msaniiyaa. h|
What! have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or do ye despise the church of God, and shame those that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.
23 prabhuto ya upade"so mayaa labdho yu. smaasu samarpita"sca sa e. sa. h|
For I received from the Lord, that which I also delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus the same night in which He was betrayed took bread:
24 parakarasamarpa. nak. sapaayaa. m prabhu ryii"su. h puupamaadaaye"svara. m dhanya. m vyaah. rtya ta. m bha"nktvaa bhaa. sitavaan yu. smaabhiretad g. rhyataa. m bhujyataa nca tad yu. smatk. rte bhagna. m mama "sariira. m; mama smara. naartha. m yu. smaabhiretat kriyataa. m|
and gave thanks, and brake it, and said, "Take and eat; this is my body, which is going to be broken for you: this do in remembrance of me."
25 puna"sca bhejanaat para. m tathaiva ka. msam aadaaya tenokta. m ka. mso. aya. m mama "so. nitena sthaapito nuutananiyama. h; yativaara. m yu. smaabhiretat piiyate tativaara. m mama smara. naartha. m piiyataa. m|
And in the same manner He took the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant ratified in my blood: this do, as often as ye drink of it, in remembrance of me."
26 yativaara. m yu. smaabhire. sa puupo bhujyate bhaajanenaanena piiyate ca tativaara. m prabhoraagamana. m yaavat tasya m. rtyu. h prakaa"syate|
As often then as ye eat of this bread, and drink of this cup, ye commemorate the Lord's death till he come.
27 apara nca ya. h ka"scid ayogyatvena prabhorima. m puupam a"snaati tasyaanena bhaajanena pivati ca sa prabho. h kaayarudhirayo rda. n.dadaayii bhavi. syati|
So that whosoever eateth this bread, or drinketh of the cup of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord.
28 tasmaat maanavenaagra aatmaana pariik. sya pa"scaad e. sa puupo bhujyataa. m ka. msenaanena ca piiyataa. m|
But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of this bread and drink of this cup:
29 yena caanarhatvena bhujyate piiyate ca prabho. h kaayam avim. r"sataa tena da. n.dapraaptaye bhujyate piiyate ca|
for he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh judgement against himself, not distinguishing the Lord's body.
30 etatkaara. naad yu. smaaka. m bhuuri"so lokaa durbbalaa rogi. na"sca santi bahava"sca mahaanidraa. m gataa. h|
For this many among you are weak and infirm, and several are fallen asleep.
31 asmaabhi ryadyaatmavicaaro. akaari. syata tarhi da. n.do naalapsyata;
If then we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged:
32 kintu yadaasmaaka. m vicaaro bhavati tadaa vaya. m jagato janai. h sama. m yad da. n.da. m na labhaamahe tadartha. m prabhunaa "saasti. m bhu. mjmahe|
but when judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.
33 he mama bhraatara. h, bhojanaartha. m militaanaa. m yu. smaakam ekenetaro. anug. rhyataa. m|
Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, wait for one another:
34 ya"sca bubhuk. sita. h sa svag. rhe bhu"nktaa. m| da. n.dapraaptaye yu. smaabhi rna samaagamyataa. m| etadbhinna. m yad aade. s.tavya. m tad yu. smatsamiipaagamanakaale mayaadek. syate|
and if any one be hungry, let him eat at home, that ye may not come together to your condemnation. And as to other things, I will set them in order when I come.
