ยากูพ: 3
1 เห มม ภฺราตร: , ศิกฺษไกรสฺมาภิ รฺคุรุตรทณฺโฑ ลปฺสฺยต อิติ ชฺญาตฺวา ยูยมฺ อเนเก ศิกฺษกา มา ภวตฯ
Be not many teachers, my brethren, knowing that we shall receive greater judgment.
2 ยต: สรฺเวฺว วยํ พหุวิษเยษุ สฺขลาม: , ย: กศฺจิทฺ วาเกฺย น สฺขลติ ส สิทฺธปุรุษ: กฺฤตฺสฺนํ วศีกรฺตฺตุํ สมรฺถศฺจาสฺติฯ
For we all often offend. If any one offend not in word, he [is] a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body too.
3 ปศฺยต วยมฺ อศฺวานฺ วศีกรฺตฺตุํ เตษำ วกฺเตฺรษุ ขลีนานฺ นิธาย เตษำ กฺฤตฺสฺนํ ศรีรมฺ อนุวรฺตฺตยาม: ฯ
Behold, we put the bits in the mouths of the horses, that they may obey us, and we turn round their whole bodies.
4 ปศฺยต เย โปตา อตีว พฺฤหทาการา: ปฺรจณฺฑวาไตศฺจ จาลิตาเสฺต'ปิ กรฺณธารสฺย มโน'ภิมตาทฺ อติกฺษุเทฺรณ กรฺเณน วาญฺฉิตํ สฺถานํ ปฺรตฺยนุวรฺตฺตนฺเตฯ
Behold also the ships, which are so great, and driven by violent winds, are turned about by a very small rudder, wherever the pleasure of the helmsman will.
5 ตทฺวทฺ รสนาปิ กฺษุทฺรตรางฺคํ สนฺตี ทรฺปวากฺยานิ ภาษเตฯ ปศฺย กีทฺฤงฺมหารณฺยํ ทหฺยเต 'เลฺปน วหฺนินาฯ
Thus also the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. See how little a fire, how large a wood it kindles!
6 รสนาปิ ภเวทฺ วหฺนิรธรฺมฺมรูปปิษฺฏเปฯ อสฺมทงฺเคษุ รสนา ตาทฺฤศํ สนฺติษฺฐติ สา กฺฤตฺสฺนํ เทหํ กลงฺกยติ สฺฤษฺฏิรถสฺย จกฺรํ ปฺรชฺวลยติ นรกานเลน ชฺวลติ จฯ (Geenna g1067)
and the tongue [is] fire, the world of unrighteousness; the tongue is set in our members, the defiler of the whole body, and which sets fire to the course of nature, and is set on fire of hell. (Geenna g1067)
7 ปศุปกฺษฺยุโรคชลจราณำ สรฺเวฺวษำ สฺวภาโว ทมยิตุํ ศกฺยเต มานุษิกสฺวภาเวน ทมยาญฺจเกฺร จฯ
For every species both of beasts and of birds, both of creeping things and of sea animals, is tamed and has been tamed by the human species;
8 กินฺตุ มานวานำ เกนาปิ ชิหฺวา ทมยิตุํ น ศกฺยเต สา น นิวารฺยฺยมฺ อนิษฺฏํ หลาหลวิเษณ ปูรฺณา จฯ
but the tongue can no one among men tame; [it is] an unsettled evil, full of death-bringing poison.
9 ตยา วยํ ปิตรมฺ อีศฺวรํ ธนฺยํ วทาม: , ตยา เจศฺวรสฺย สาทฺฤเศฺย สฺฤษฺฏานฺ มานวานฺ ศปาม: ฯ
Therewith bless we the Lord and Father, and therewith curse we men made after [the] likeness of God.
10 เอกสฺมาทฺ วทนาทฺ ธนฺยวาทศาเปา นิรฺคจฺฉต: ฯ เห มม ภฺราตร: , เอตาทฺฤศํ น กรฺตฺตวฺยํฯ
Out of the same mouth goes forth blessing and cursing. It is not right, my brethren, that these things should be thus.
11 ปฺรสฺรวณ: กิมฺ เอกสฺมาตฺ ฉิทฺราตฺ มิษฺฏํ ติกฺตญฺจ โตยํ นิรฺคมยติ?
Does the fountain, out of the same opening, pour forth sweet and bitter?
12 เห มม ภฺราตร: , อุฑุมฺพรตรุ: กึ ชิตผลานิ ทฺรากฺษาลตา วา กิมฺ อุฑุมฺพรผลานิ ผลิตุํ ศกฺโนติ? ตทฺวทฺ เอก: ปฺรสฺรวโณ ลวณมิษฺเฏ โตเย นิรฺคมยิตุํ น ศกฺโนติฯ
Can, my brethren, a fig produce olives, or a vine figs? Neither [can] salt [water] make sweet water.
13 ยุษฺมากํ มเธฺย ชฺญานี สุโพธศฺจ ก อาเสฺต? ตสฺย กรฺมฺมาณิ ชฺญานมูลกมฺฤทุตายุกฺตานีติ สทาจาราตฺ ส ปฺรมาณยตุฯ
Who [is] wise and understanding among you; let him shew out of a good conversation his works in meekness of wisdom;
14 กินฺตุ ยุษฺมทนฺต: กรณมเธฺย ยทิ ติกฺเตรฺษฺยา วิวาเทจฺฉา จ วิทฺยเต ตรฺหิ สตฺยมตสฺย วิรุทฺธํ น ศฺลาฆธฺวํ นจานฺฤตํ กถยตฯ
but if ye have bitter emulation and strife in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.
15 ตาทฺฤศํ ชฺญานมฺ อูรฺทฺธฺวาทฺ อาคตํ นหิ กินฺตุ ปารฺถิวํ ศรีริ เภาติกญฺจฯ
This is not the wisdom which comes down from above, but earthly, natural, devilish.
16 ยโต เหโตรีรฺษฺยา วิวาเทจฺฉา จ ยตฺร เวเทฺยเต ตไตฺรว กลห: สรฺวฺวํ ทุษฺกฺฤตญฺจ วิทฺยเตฯ
For where emulation and strife [are], there [is] disorder and every evil thing.
17 กินฺตูรฺทฺธฺวาทฺ อาคตํ ยตฺ ชฺญานํ ตตฺ ปฺรถมํ ศุจิ ตต: ปรํ ศานฺตํ กฺษานฺตมฺ อาศุสนฺเธยํ ทยาทิสตฺผไล: ปริปูรฺณมฺ อสนฺทิคฺธํ นิษฺกปฏญฺจ ภวติฯ
But the wisdom from above first is pure, then peaceful, gentle, yielding, full of mercy and good fruits, unquestioning, unfeigned.
18 ศานฺตฺยาจาริภิ: ศานฺตฺยา ธรฺมฺมผลํ โรปฺยเตฯ
But [the] fruit of righteousness in peace is sown for them that make peace.
