๑ กรินฺถิน: 8
1 เทวปฺรสาเท สรฺเวฺวษามฺ อสฺมากํ ชฺญานมาเสฺต ตทฺวยํ วิทฺม: ฯ ตถาปิ ชฺญานํ ครฺวฺวํ ชนยติ กินฺตุ เปฺรมโต นิษฺฐา ชายเตฯ
NOW as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
2 อต: กศฺจน ยทิ มนฺยเต มม ชฺญานมาสฺต อิติ ตรฺหิ เตน ยาทฺฤศํ ชฺญานํ เจษฺฏิตวฺยํ ตาทฺฤศํ กิมปิ ชฺญานมทฺยาปิ น ลพฺธํฯ
And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
3 กินฺตุ ย อีศฺวเร ปฺรียเต ส อีศฺวเรณาปิ ชฺญายเตฯ
But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
4 เทวตาพลิปฺรสาทภกฺษเณ วยมิทํ วิทฺโม ยตฺ ชคนฺมเธฺย โก'ปิ เทโว น วิทฺยเต, เอกศฺเจศฺวโร ทฺวิตีโย นาสฺตีติฯ
As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
5 สฺวรฺเค ปฺฤถิวฺยำ วา ยทฺยปิ เกษุจิทฺ อีศฺวร อิติ นามาโรปฺยเต ตาทฺฤศาศฺจ พหว อีศฺวรา พหวศฺจ ปฺรภโว วิทฺยนฺเต
For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many, )
6 ตถาปฺยสฺมากมทฺวิตีย อีศฺวร: ส ปิตา ยสฺมาตฺ สรฺเวฺวษำ ยทรฺถญฺจาสฺมากํ สฺฤษฺฏิ รฺชาตา, อสฺมากญฺจาทฺวิตีย: ปฺรภุ: ส ยีศุ: ขฺรีษฺโฏ เยน สรฺวฺววสฺตูนำ เยนาสฺมากมปิ สฺฤษฺฏิ: กฺฤตาฯ
But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
7 อธิกนฺตุ ชฺญานํ สรฺเวฺวษำ นาสฺติ ยต: เกจิททฺยาปิ เทวตำ สมฺมนฺย เทวปฺรสาทมิว ตทฺ ภกฺษฺยํ ภุญฺชเต เตน ทุรฺพฺพลตยา เตษำ สฺวานฺตานิ มลีมสานิ ภวนฺติฯ
Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
8 กินฺตุ ภกฺษฺยทฺรวฺยาทฺ วยมฺ อีศฺวเรณ คฺราหฺยา ภวามสฺตนฺนหิ ยโต ภุงฺกฺตฺวา วยมุตฺกฺฤษฺฏา น ภวามสฺตทฺวทภุงฺกฺตฺวาปฺยปกฺฤษฺฏา น ภวาม: ฯ
But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
9 อโต ยุษฺมากํ ยา กฺษมตา สา ทุรฺพฺพลานามฺ อุนฺมาถสฺวรูปา ยนฺน ภเวตฺ ตทรฺถํ สาวธานา ภวตฯ
But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
10 ยโต ชฺญานวิศิษฺฏสฺตฺวํ ยทิ เทวาลเย อุปวิษฺฏ: เกนาปิ ทฺฤศฺยเส ตรฺหิ ตสฺย ทุรฺพฺพลสฺย มนสิ กึ ปฺรสาทภกฺษณ อุตฺสาโห น ชนิษฺยเต?
For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
11 ตถา สติ ยสฺย กฺฤเต ขฺรีษฺโฏ มมาร ตว ส ทุรฺพฺพโล ภฺราตา ตว ชฺญานาตฺ กึ น วินํกฺษฺยติ?
And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
12 อิตฺยเนน ปฺรกาเรณ ภฺราตฺฤณำ วิรุทฺธมฺ อปราธฺยทฺภิเสฺตษำ ทุรฺพฺพลานิ มนำสิ วฺยาฆาตยทฺภิศฺจ ยุษฺมาภิ: ขฺรีษฺฏสฺย ไวปรีเตฺยนาปราธฺยเตฯ
But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
