1 அநந்தரம்’ யீஸு² ர்விஸ்²ராமவாரே ஸ்²ஸ்யமத்⁴யேந க³ச்ச²தி, ததா³ தச்சி²ஷ்யா பு³பு⁴க்ஷிதா: ஸந்த: ஸ்²ஸ்யமஞ்ஜரீஸ்²ச²த்வா சி²த்வா கா²தி³துமாரப⁴ந்த|
About that time Jesus passed on the Sabbath through the wheatfields; and His disciples became hungry, and began to gather ears of wheat and eat them.
2 தத்³ விலோக்ய பி²ரூஸி²நோ யீஸு²ம்’ ஜக³து³: , பஸ்²ய விஸ்²ராமவாரே யத் கர்ம்மாகர்த்தவ்யம்’ ததே³வ தவ ஸி²ஷ்யா: குர்வ்வந்தி|
But the Pharisees saw it and said to Him, "Look! your disciples are doing what the Law forbids them to do on the Sabbath."
3 ஸ தாந் ப்ரத்யாவத³த, தா³யூத்³ தத்ஸங்கி³நஸ்²ச பு³பு⁴க்ஷிதா: ஸந்தோ யத் கர்ம்மாகுர்வ்வந் தத் கிம்’ யுஷ்மாபி⁴ ர்நாபாடி²?
"Have you never read," He replied, "what David did when he and his men were hungry?
4 யே த³ர்ஸ²நீயா: பூபா: யாஜகாந் விநா தஸ்ய தத்ஸங்கி³மநுஜாநாஞ்சாபோ⁴ஜநீயாஸ்த ஈஸ்²வராவாஸம்’ ப்ரவிஷ்டேந தேந பு⁴க்தா: |
how he entered the House of God and ate the Presented Loaves, which it was not lawful for him or his men to eat, nor for any except the priests?
5 அந்யச்ச விஸ்²ராமவாரே மத்⁴யேமந்தி³ரம்’ விஸ்²ராமவாரீயம்’ நியமம்’ லங்வந்தோபி யாஜகா நிர்தோ³ஷா ப⁴வந்தி, ஸா²ஸ்த்ரமத்⁴யே கிமித³மபி யுஷ்மாபி⁴ ர்ந படி²தம்’?
And have you not read in the Law how on the Sabbath the priests in the Temple break the Sabbath without incurring guilt?
6 யுஷ்மாநஹம்’ வதா³மி, அத்ர ஸ்தா²நே மந்தி³ராத³பி க³ரீயாந் ஏக ஆஸ்தே|
But I tell you that there is here that which is greater than the Temple.
7 கிந்து த³யாயாம்’ மே யதா² ப்ரீதி ர்ந ததா² யஜ்ஞகர்ம்மணி| ஏதத்³வசநஸ்யார்த²ம்’ யதி³ யுயம் அஜ்ஞாஸிஷ்ட தர்ஹி நிர்தோ³ஷாந் தோ³ஷிணோ நாகார்ஷ்ட|
And if you knew what this means, 'It is mercy I desire, not sacrifice', you would not have condemned those who are without guilt.
8 அந்யச்ச மநுஜஸுதோ விஸ்²ராமவாரஸ்யாபி பதிராஸ்தே|
For the Son of Man is the Lord of the Sabbath."
9 அநந்தரம்’ ஸ தத்ஸ்தா²நாத் ப்ரஸ்தா²ய தேஷாம்’ ப⁴ஜநப⁴வநம்’ ப்ரவிஷ்டவாந், ததா³நீம் ஏக: ஸு²ஷ்ககராமயவாந் உபஸ்தி²தவாந்|
Departing thence He went to their synagogue,
10 ததோ யீஸு²ம் அபவதி³தும்’ மாநுஷா: பப்ரச்சு²: , விஸ்²ராமவாரே நிராமயத்வம்’ கரணீயம்’ ந வா?
where there was a man with a shrivelled arm. And they questioned Him, "Is it right to cure people on the Sabbath?" Their intention was to bring a charge against Him.
11 தேந ஸ ப்ரத்யுவாச, விஸ்²ராமவாரே யதி³ கஸ்யசித்³ அவி ர்க³ர்த்தே பததி, தர்ஹி யஸ்தம்’ க்⁴ரு’த்வா ந தோலயதி, ஏதாத்³ரு’ஸோ² மநுஜோ யுஷ்மாகம்’ மத்⁴யே க ஆஸ்தே?
"Which of you is there," He replied, "who, if he has but a single sheep and it falls into a hole on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out?
12 அவே ர்மாநவ: கிம்’ நஹி ஸ்²ரேயாந்? அதோ விஸ்²ராமவாரே ஹிதகர்ம்ம கர்த்தவ்யம்’|
Is not a man, however, far superior to a sheep? Therefore it is right to do good on the Sabbath."
13 அநந்தரம்’ ஸ தம்’ மாநவம்’ க³தி³தவாந், கரம்’ ப்ரஸாரய; தேந கரே ப்ரஸாரிதே ஸோந்யகரவத் ஸ்வஸ்தோ²(அ)ப⁴வத்|
Then He said to the man, "Stretch out your arm." And he stretched it out, and it was restored quite sound like the other.
14 ததா³ பி²ரூஸி²நோ ப³ஹிர்பூ⁴ய கத²ம்’ தம்’ ஹநிஷ்யாம இதி குமந்த்ரணாம்’ தத்ப்ராதிகூல்யேந சக்ரு: |
But the Pharisees after leaving the synagogue consulted together against Him, how they might destroy Him.
15 ததோ யீஸு²ஸ்தத்³ விதி³த்வா ஸ்த²நாந்தரம்’ க³தவாந்; அந்யேஷு ப³ஹுநரேஷு தத்பஸ்²சாத்³ க³தேஷு தாந் ஸ நிராமயாந் க்ரு’த்வா இத்யாஜ்ஞாபயத்,
Aware of this, Jesus departed elsewhere; and a great number of people followed Him, all of whom He cured.
16 யூயம்’ மாம்’ ந பரிசாயயத|
But He gave them strict injunctions not to blaze abroad His doings,
17 தஸ்மாத் மம ப்ரீயோ மநோநீதோ மநஸஸ்துஷ்டிகாரக: | மதீ³ய: ஸேவகோ யஸ்து வித்³யதே தம்’ ஸமீக்ஷதாம்’| தஸ்யோபரி ஸ்வகீயாத்மா மயா ஸம்’ஸ்தா²பயிஷ்யதே| தேநாந்யதே³ஸ²ஜாதேஷு வ்யவஸ்தா² ஸம்’ப்ரகாஸ்²யதே|
that those words of the Prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled,
18 கேநாபி ந விரோத⁴ம்’ ஸ விவாத³ஞ்ச கரிஷ்யதி| ந ச ராஜபதே² தேந வசநம்’ ஸ்²ராவயிஷ்யதே|
"This is My servant whom I have chosen, My dearly loved One in whom My soul takes pleasure. I will put My spirit upon Him, and He will announce justice to the nations.
19 வ்யவஸ்தா² சலிதா யாவத் நஹி தேந கரிஷ்யதே| தாவத் நலோ விதீ³ர்ணோ(அ)பி ப⁴ம்’க்ஷ்யதே நஹி தேந ச| ததா² ஸதூ⁴மவர்த்திஞ்ச ந ஸ நிர்வ்வாபயிஷ்யதே|
He will not wrangle or raise His voice, nor will His voice be heard in the broadways.
20 ப்ரத்யாஸா²ஞ்ச கரிஷ்யந்தி தந்நாம்நி பி⁴ந்நதே³ஸ²ஜா: |
A crushed reed He will not utterly break, nor will He quench the still smouldering wick, until He has led on Justice to victory.
21 யாந்யேதாநி வசநாநி யிஸ²யியப⁴விஷ்யத்³வாதி³நா ப்ரோக்தாந்யாஸந், தாநி ஸப²லாந்யப⁴வந்|
And on His name shall the nations rest their hopes."
22 அநந்தரம்’ லோகை ஸ்தத்ஸமீபம் ஆநீதோ பூ⁴தக்³ரஸ்தாந்த⁴மூகைகமநுஜஸ்தேந ஸ்வஸ்தீ²க்ரு’த: , தத: ஸோ(அ)ந்தோ⁴ மூகோ த்³ரஷ்டும்’ வக்துஞ்சாரப்³த⁴வாந்|
At that time a demoniac was brought to Him, blind and dumb; and He cured him, so that the dumb man could speak and see.
23 அநேந ஸர்வ்வே விஸ்மிதா: கத²யாஞ்சக்ரு: , ஏஷ: கிம்’ தா³யூத³: ஸந்தாநோ நஹி?
And the crowds of people were all filled with amazement and said, "Can this be the Son of David?"
24 கிந்து பி²ரூஸி²நஸ்தத் ஸ்²ருத்வா க³தி³தவந்த: , பா³ல்ஸிபூ³ப்³நாம்நோ பூ⁴தராஜஸ்ய ஸாஹாய்யம்’ விநா நாயம்’ பூ⁴தாந் த்யாஜயதி|
The Pharisees heard it and said, "This man only expels demons by the power of Baal-zebul, the Prince of demons."
25 ததா³நீம்’ யீஸு²ஸ்தேஷாம் இதி மாநஸம்’ விஜ்ஞாய தாந் அவத³த் கிஞ்சந ராஜ்யம்’ யதி³ ஸ்வவிபக்ஷாத்³ பி⁴த்³யதே, தர்ஹி தத் உச்சி²த்³யதே; யச்ச கிஞ்சந நக³ரம்’ வா க்³ரு’ஹம்’ ஸ்வவிபக்ஷாத்³ விபி⁴த்³யதே, தத் ஸ்தா²தும்’ ந ஸ²க்நோதி|
Knowing their thoughts He said to them, "Every kingdom in which civil war has raged suffers desolation; and every city or house in which there is internal strife will be brought low.
26 தத்³வத் ஸ²யதாநோ யதி³ ஸ²யதாநம்’ ப³ஹி: க்ரு’த்வா ஸ்வவிபக்ஷாத் ப்ரு’த²க் ப்ரு’த²க் ப⁴வதி, தர்ஹி தஸ்ய ராஜ்யம்’ கேந ப்ரகாரேண ஸ்தா²ஸ்யதி?
And if Satan is expelling Satan, he has begun to make war on himself: how therefore shall his kingdom last?
27 அஹஞ்ச யதி³ பா³ல்ஸிபூ³பா³ பூ⁴தாந் த்யாஜயாமி, தர்ஹி யுஷ்மாகம்’ ஸந்தாநா: கேந பூ⁴தாந் த்யாஜயந்தி? தஸ்மாத்³ யுஷ்மாகம் ஏதத்³விசாரயிதாரஸ்த ஏவ ப⁴விஷ்யந்தி|
And if it is by Baal-zebul's power that I expel the demons, by whose power do your disciples expel them? They therefore shall be your judges.
28 கிந்தவஹம்’ யதீ³ஸ்²வராத்மநா பூ⁴தாந் த்யாஜயாமி, தர்ஹீஸ்²வரஸ்ய ராஜ்யம்’ யுஷ்மாகம்’ ஸந்நிதி⁴மாக³தவத்|
But if it is by the power of the Spirit of God that I expel the demons, it is evident that the Kingdom of God has come upon you.
29 அந்யஞ்ச கோபி ப³லவந்த ஜநம்’ ப்ரத²மதோ ந ப³த்³வ்வா கேந ப்ரகாரேண தஸ்ய க்³ரு’ஹம்’ ப்ரவிஸ்²ய தத்³த்³ரவ்யாதி³ லோட²யிதும்’ ஸ²க்நோதி? கிந்து தத் க்ரு’த்வா ததீ³யக்³ரு’ஸ்ய த்³ரவ்யாதி³ லோட²யிதும்’ ஸ²க்நோதி|
Again, how can any one enter the house of a strong man and carry off his goods, unless first of all he masters and secures the strong man: then he will ransack his house.
30 ய: கஸ்²சித் மம ஸ்வபக்ஷீயோ நஹி ஸ விபக்ஷீய ஆஸ்தே, யஸ்²ச மயா ஸாகம்’ ந ஸம்’க்³ரு’ஹ்லாதி, ஸ விகிரதி|
"The man who is not with me is against me, and he who is not gathering with me is scattering abroad.
31 அதஏவ யுஷ்மாநஹம்’ வதா³மி, மநுஜாநாம்’ ஸர்வ்வப்ரகாரபாபாநாம்’ நிந்தா³யாஸ்²ச மர்ஷணம்’ ப⁴விதும்’ ஸ²க்நோதி, கிந்து பவித்ரஸ்யாத்மநோ விருத்³த⁴நிந்தா³யா மர்ஷணம்’ ப⁴விதும்’ ந ஸ²க்நோதி|
This is why I tell you that men may find forgiveness for every other sin and impious word, but that for impious speaking against the Holy Spirit they shall find no forgiveness.
32 யோ மநுஜஸுதஸ்ய விருத்³தா⁴ம்’ கதா²ம்’ கத²யதி, தஸ்யாபராத⁴ஸ்ய க்ஷமா ப⁴விதும்’ ஸ²க்நோதி, கிந்து ய: கஸ்²சித் பவித்ரஸ்யாத்மநோ விருத்³தா⁴ம்’ கதா²ம்’ கத²யதி நேஹலோகே ந ப்ரேத்ய தஸ்யாபராத⁴ஸ்ய க்ஷமா ப⁴விதும்’ ஸ²க்நோதி| (aiōn g165)
And whoever shall speak against the Son of Man may obtain forgiveness; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, neither in this nor in the coming age shall he obtain forgiveness." (aiōn g165)
33 பாத³பம்’ யதி³ ப⁴த்³ரம்’ வத³த², தர்ஹி தஸ்ய ப²லமபி ஸாது⁴ வக்தவ்யம்’, யதி³ ச பாத³பம்’ அஸாது⁴ம்’ வத³த², தர்ஹி தஸ்ய ப²லமப்யஸாது⁴ வக்தவ்யம்’; யத: ஸ்வீயஸ்வீயப²லேந பாத³ப: பரிசீயதே|
"Either grant the tree to be wholesome and its fruit wholesome, or the tree poisonous and its fruit poisonous; for the tree is known by its fruit.
34 ரே பு⁴ஜக³வம்’ஸா² யூயமஸாத⁴வ: ஸந்த: கத²ம்’ ஸாது⁴ வாக்யம்’ வக்தும்’ ஸ²க்ஷ்யத²? யஸ்மாத்³ அந்த: கரணஸ்ய பூர்ணபா⁴வாநுஸாராத்³ வத³நாத்³ வசோ நிர்க³ச்ச²தி|
O vipers' brood, how can you speak what is good when you are evil? For it is from the overflow of the heart that the mouth speaks.
35 தேந ஸாது⁴ர்மாநவோ(அ)ந்த: கரணரூபாத் ஸாது⁴பா⁴ண்டா³கா³ராத் ஸாது⁴ த்³ரவ்யம்’ நிர்க³மயதி, அஸாது⁴ர்மாநுஷஸ்த்வஸாது⁴பா⁴ண்டா³கா³ராத்³ அஸாது⁴வஸ்தூநி நிர்க³மயதி|
A good man from his good store produces good things, and a bad man from his bad store produces bad things.
36 கிந்த்வஹம்’ யுஷ்மாந் வதா³மி, மநுஜா யாவந்த்யாலஸ்யவசாம்’ஸி வத³ந்தி, விசாரதி³நே தது³த்தரமவஸ்²யம்’ தா³தவ்யம்’,
But I tell you that for every careless word that men shall speak they will be held accountable on the day of Judgement.
37 யதஸ்த்வம்’ ஸ்வீயவசோபி⁴ ர்நிரபராத⁴: ஸ்வீயவசோபி⁴ஸ்²ச ஸாபராதோ⁴ க³ணிஷ்யஸே|
For each of you by his words shall be justified, or by his words shall be condemned."
38 ததா³நீம்’ கதிபயா உபாத்⁴யாயா: பி²ரூஸி²நஸ்²ச ஜக³து³: , ஹே கு³ரோ வயம்’ ப⁴வத்த: கிஞ்சந லக்ஷ்ம தி³த்³ரு’க்ஷாம: |
Then He was accosted by some of the Scribes and of the Pharisees who said, "Teacher, we wish to see a sign given by you."
39 ததா³ ஸ ப்ரத்யுக்தவாந், து³ஷ்டோ வ்யபி⁴சாரீ ச வம்’ஸோ² லக்ஷ்ம ம்ரு’க³யதே, கிந்து ப⁴விஷ்யத்³வாதி³நோ யூநஸோ லக்ஷ்ம விஹாயாந்யத் கிமபி லக்ஷ்ம தே ந ப்ரத³ர்ஸ²யிஷ்யந்தே|
"Wicked and faithless generation!" He replied, "they clamour for a sign, but none shall be given to them except the sign of the Prophet Jonah.
40 யதோ யூநம் யதா² த்ர்யஹோராத்ரம்’ ப்³ரு’ஹந்மீநஸ்ய குக்ஷாவாஸீத், ததா² மநுஜபுத்ரோபி த்ர்யஹோராத்ரம்’ மேதி³ந்யா மத்⁴யே ஸ்தா²ஸ்யதி|
For just as Jonah was three days in the sea-monster's belly, so will the Son of Man be three days in the heart of the earth.
41 அபரம்’ நீநிவீயா மாநவா விசாரதி³ந ஏதத்³வம்’ஸீ²யாநாம்’ ப்ரதிகூலம் உத்தா²ய தாந் தோ³ஷிண: கரிஷ்யந்தி, யஸ்மாத்தே யூநஸ உபதே³ஸா²த் மநாம்’ஸி பராவர்த்தயாஞ்சக்ரிரே, கிந்த்வத்ர யூநஸோபி கு³ருதர ஏக ஆஸ்தே|
There will stand up men of Nineveh at the Judgement together with the present generation, and will condemn it; because they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and mark! there is One greater than Jonah here.
42 புநஸ்²ச த³க்ஷிணதே³ஸீ²யா ராஜ்ஞீ விசாரதி³ந ஏதத்³வம்’ஸீ²யாநாம்’ ப்ரதிகூலமுத்தா²ய தாந் தோ³ஷிண: கரிஷ்யதி யத: ஸா ராஜ்ஞீ ஸுலேமநோ வித்³யாயா: கதா²ம்’ ஸ்²ரோதும்’ மேதி³ந்யா: ஸீம்ந ஆக³ச்ச²த், கிந்து ஸுலேமநோபி கு³ருதர ஏகோ ஜநோ(அ)த்ர ஆஸ்தே|
The Queen of the south will awake at the Judgement together with the present generation, and will condemn it; because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and mark! there is One greater than Solomon here.
43 அபரம்’ மநுஜாத்³ ப³ஹிர்க³தோ (அ)பவித்ரபூ⁴த: ஸு²ஷ்கஸ்தா²நேந க³த்வா விஸ்²ராமம்’ க³வேஷயதி, கிந்து தத³லப⁴மாந: ஸ வக்தி, யஸ்மா; நிகேதநாத்³ ஆக³மம்’, ததே³வ வேஸ்²ம பகாவ்ரு’த்ய யாமி|
"No sooner however has the foul spirit gone out of the man, then he roams about in places where there is no water, seeking rest but finding none.
44 பஸ்²சாத் ஸ தத் ஸ்தா²நம் உபஸ்தா²ய தத் ஸூ²ந்யம்’ மார்ஜ்ஜிதம்’ ஸோ²பி⁴தஞ்ச விலோக்ய வ்ரஜந் ஸ்வதோபி து³ஷ்டதராந் அந்யஸப்தபூ⁴தாந் ஸங்கி³ந: கரோதி|
Then he says, 'I will return to my house that I left;' and he comes and finds it unoccupied, swept clean, and in good order.
45 ததஸ்தே தத் ஸ்தா²நம்’ ப்ரவிஸ்²ய நிவஸந்தி, தேந தஸ்ய மநுஜஸ்ய ஸே²ஷத³ஸா² பூர்வ்வத³ஸா²தோதீவாஸு²பா⁴ ப⁴வதி, ஏதேஷாம்’ து³ஷ்டவம்’ஸ்²யாநாமபி ததை²வ க⁴டிஷ்யதே|
Then he goes and brings back with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they come in and dwell there; and in the end that man's condition becomes worse than it was at first. So will it be also with the present wicked generation."
46 மாநவேப்⁴ய ஏதாஸாம்’ கத²நாம்’ கத²நகாலே தஸ்ய மாதா ஸஹஜாஸ்²ச தேந ஸாகம்’ காஞ்சித் கதா²ம்’ கத²யிதும்’ வாஞ்ச²ந்தோ ப³ஹிரேவ ஸ்தி²தவந்த: |
While He was still addressing the people His mother and His brothers were standing on the edge of the crowd desiring to speak to Him.
47 தத: கஸ்²சித் தஸ்மை கதி²தவாந், பஸ்²ய தவ ஜநநீ ஸஹஜாஸ்²ச த்வயா ஸாகம்’ காஞ்சந கதா²ம்’ கத²யிதும்’ காமயமாநா ப³ஹிஸ்திஷ்ட²ந்தி|
So some one told Him, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, and desire to speak to you."
48 கிந்து ஸ தம்’ ப்ரத்யவத³த், மம கா ஜநநீ? கே வா மம ஸஹஜா: ?
"Who is my mother?" He said to the man; "and who are my brothers?"
49 பஸ்²சாத் ஸி²ஷ்யாந் ப்ரதி கரம்’ ப்ரஸார்ய்ய கதி²தவாந், பஸ்²ய மம ஜநநீ மம ஸஹஜாஸ்²சைதே;
And pointing to His disciples He added, "See here are my mother and my brothers.
50 ய: கஸ்²சித் மம ஸ்வர்க³ஸ்த²ஸ்ய பிதுரிஷ்டம்’ கர்ம்ம குருதே, ஸஏவ மம ப்⁴ராதா ப⁴கி³நீ ஜநநீ ச|
To obey my Father who is in Heaven--that is to be my brother and my sister and my mother."
