1 ததா³ தத்ஸமீபம்’ ப³ஹவோ லோகா ஆயாதா அதஸ்தேஷாம்’ போ⁴ஜ்யத்³ரவ்யாபா⁴வாத்³ யீஸு²: ஸி²ஷ்யாநாஹூய ஜகா³த³, |
About that time, when there was again a great crowd of people who had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him, and said,
2 லோகநிவஹே மம க்ரு’பா ஜாயதே தே தி³நத்ரயம்’ மயா ஸார்த்³த⁴ம்’ ஸந்தி தேஷாம்’ போ⁴ஜ்யம்’ கிமபி நாஸ்தி|
‘My heart is moved at the sight of all these people, for they have already been with me three days and they have nothing to eat;
3 தேஷாம்’ மத்⁴யே(அ)நேகே தூ³ராத்³ ஆக³தா: , அபு⁴க்தேஷு தேஷு மயா ஸ்வக்³ரு’ஹமபி⁴ப்ரஹிதேஷு தே பதி² க்லமிஷ்யந்தி|
and if I send them away to their homes hungry, they will break down on the way; and some of them have come a long distance.’
4 ஸி²ஷ்யா அவாதி³ஷு: , ஏதாவதோ லோகாந் தர்பயிதும் அத்ர ப்ரந்தரே பூபாந் ப்ராப்தும்’ கேந ஸ²க்யதே?
‘Where will it be possible,’ his disciples answered, ‘to get sufficient bread for these people in this lonely place?’
5 தத: ஸ தாந் பப்ரச்ச² யுஷ்மாகம்’ கதி பூபா: ஸந்தி? தே(அ)கத²யந் ஸப்த|
‘How many loaves have you?’ he asked. ‘Seven,’ they answered.
6 தத: ஸ தால்லோகாந் பு⁴வி ஸமுபவேஷ்டும் ஆதி³ஸ்²ய தாந் ஸப்த பூபாந் த்⁴ரு’த்வா ஈஸ்²வரகு³ணாந் அநுகீர்த்தயாமாஸ, ப⁴ம்’க்த்வா பரிவேஷயிதும்’ ஸி²ஷ்யாந் ப்ரதி த³தௌ³, ததஸ்தே லோகேப்⁴ய: பரிவேஷயாமாஸு: |
Jesus told the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves, and, after saying the thanksgiving, broke them, and gave them to his disciples to serve out; and they served them out to the crowd.
7 ததா² தேஷாம்’ ஸமீபே யே க்ஷுத்³ரமத்ஸ்யா ஆஸந் தாநப்யாதா³ய ஈஸ்²வரகு³ணாந் ஸம்’கீர்த்ய பரிவேஷயிதும் ஆதி³ஷ்டவாந்|
They had also a few small fish; and, after he had said the blessing, he told the disciples to serve out these as well.
8 ததோ லோகா பு⁴க்த்வா த்ரு’ப்திம்’ க³தா அவஸி²ஷ்டகா²த்³யை: பூர்ணா: ஸப்தட³ல்லகா க்³ரு’ஹீதாஸ்²ச|
The people had sufficient to eat, and they picked up seven baskets full of the broken pieces that were left.
9 ஏதே போ⁴க்தார: ப்ராயஸ்²சது: ஸஹஸ்ரபுருஷா ஆஸந் தத: ஸ தாந் விஸஸர்ஜ|
There were about four thousand people. Then Jesus dismissed them.
10 அத² ஸ ஸி²ஷ்ய: ஸஹ நாவமாருஹ்ய த³ல்மாநூதா²ஸீமாமாக³த: |
Immediately afterwards, getting into the boat with his disciples, Jesus went to the district of Dalmanutha.
11 தத: பரம்’ பி²ரூஸி²ந ஆக³த்ய தேந ஸஹ விவத³மாநாஸ்தஸ்ய பரீக்ஷார்த²ம் ஆகாஸீ²யசிஹ்நம்’ த்³ரஷ்டும்’ யாசிதவந்த: |
Here the Pharisees came out, and began to argue with Jesus, asking him for some sign from the heavens, to test him.
12 ததா³ ஸோ(அ)ந்தர்தீ³ர்க⁴ம்’ நிஸ்²வஸ்யாகத²யத், ஏதே வித்³யமாநநரா: குதஸ்²சிந்ஹம்’ ம்ரு’க³யந்தே? யுஷ்மாநஹம்’ யதா²ர்த²ம்’ ப்³ரவீமி லோகாநேதாந் கிமபி சிஹ்நம்’ ந த³ர்ஸ²யிஷ்யதே|
Sighing deeply, Jesus said, ‘Why does this generation ask for a sign? I tell you, no sign will be given it.’
13 அத² தாந் ஹித்வா புந ர்நாவம் ஆருஹ்ய பாரமகா³த்|
So he left them to themselves, and, getting into the boat again, went away to the opposite shore.
14 ஏதர்ஹி ஸி²ஷ்யை: பூபேஷு விஸ்ம்ரு’தேஷு நாவி தேஷாம்’ ஸந்நிதௌ⁴ பூப ஏகஏவ ஸ்தி²த: |
Now the disciples had forgotten to take any bread with them, one loaf being all that they had in the boat.
15 ததா³நீம்’ யீஸு²ஸ்தாந் ஆதி³ஷ்டவாந் பி²ரூஸி²நாம்’ ஹேரோத³ஸ்²ச கிண்வம்’ ப்ரதி ஸதர்கா: ஸாவதா⁴நாஸ்²ச ப⁴வத|
So Jesus gave them this warning. ‘Take care,’ he said, ‘beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.’
16 ததஸ்தே(அ)ந்யோந்யம்’ விவேசநம்’ கர்தும் ஆரேபி⁴ரே, அஸ்மாகம்’ ஸந்நிதௌ⁴ பூபோ நாஸ்தீதி ஹேதோரித³ம்’ கத²யதி|
They began talking to one another about their being short of bread;
17 தத்³ பு³த்³வ்வா யீஸு²ஸ்தேப்⁴யோ(அ)கத²யத் யுஷ்மாகம்’ ஸ்தா²நே பூபாபா⁴வாத் குத இத்த²ம்’ விதர்கயத²? யூயம்’ கிமத்³யாபி கிமபி ந ஜாநீத²? போ³த்³து⁴ஞ்ச ந ஸ²க்நுத²? யாவத³த்³ய கிம்’ யுஷ்மாகம்’ மநாம்’ஸி கடி²நாநி ஸந்தி?
and, noticing this, Jesus said to them, ‘Why are you talking about your being short of bread? Don’t you yet see or understand? Are your minds still so slow or comprehension?
18 ஸத்ஸு நேத்ரேஷு கிம்’ ந பஸ்²யத²? ஸத்ஸு கர்ணேஷு கிம்’ ந ஸ்²ரு’ணுத²? ந ஸ்மரத² ச?
Though you have eyes, do you not see? And though you have ears, do you not hear? Don’t you remember,
19 யதா³ஹம்’ பஞ்சபூபாந் பஞ்சஸஹஸ்ராணாம்’ புருஷாணாம்’ மத்⁴யே ப⁴ம்’க்த்வா த³த்தவாந் ததா³நீம்’ யூயம் அவஸி²ஷ்டபூபை: பூர்ணாந் கதி ட³ல்லகாந் க்³ரு’ஹீதவந்த: ? தே(அ)கத²யந் த்³வாத³ஸ²ட³ல்லகாந்|
when I broke up the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets of broken pieces you picked up?’ ‘Twelve,’ they said.
20 அபரஞ்ச யதா³ சது: ஸஹஸ்ராணாம்’ புருஷாணாம்’ மத்⁴யே பூபாந் ப⁴ம்’க்த்வாத³தா³ம்’ ததா³ யூயம் அதிரிக்தபூபாநாம்’ கதி ட³ல்லகாந் க்³ரு’ஹீதவந்த: ? தே கத²யாமாஸு: ஸப்தட³ல்லகாந்|
‘And when the seven for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of broken pieces did you pick up?’ ‘Seven,’ they said.
21 ததா³ ஸ கதி²தவாந் தர்ஹி யூயம் அது⁴நாபி குதோ போ³த்³வ்வும்’ ந ஸ²க்நுத²?
‘Don’t you understand now?’ he repeated.
22 அநந்தரம்’ தஸ்மிந் பை³த்ஸைதா³நக³ரே ப்ராப்தே லோகா அந்த⁴மேகம்’ நரம்’ தத்ஸமீபமாநீய தம்’ ஸ்ப்ரஷ்டும்’ தம்’ ப்ரார்த²யாஞ்சக்ரிரே|
They came to Bethsaida. There some people brought a blind man to Jesus, and begged him to touch him.
23 ததா³ தஸ்யாந்த⁴ஸ்ய கரௌ க்³ரு’ஹீத்வா நக³ராத்³ ப³ஹிர்தே³ஸ²ம்’ தம்’ நீதவாந்; தந்நேத்ரே நிஷ்டீ²வம்’ த³த்த்வா தத்³கா³த்ரே ஹஸ்தாவர்பயித்வா தம்’ பப்ரச்ச², கிமபி பஸ்²யஸி?
Taking the blind man’s hand, Jesus led him to the outskirts of the village, and, when he had put saliva on the man’s eyes, he placed his hands on him, and asked him, ‘Do you see anything?’
24 ஸ நேத்ரே உந்மீல்ய ஜகா³த³, வ்ரு’க்ஷவத் மநுஜாந் க³ச்ச²தோ நிரீக்ஷே|
The man looked up, and said, ‘I see the people, for, as they walk about, they look to me like trees.’
25 ததோ யீஸு²: புநஸ்தஸ்ய நயநயோ ர்ஹஸ்தாவர்பயித்வா தஸ்ய நேத்ரே உந்மீலயாமாஸ; தஸ்மாத் ஸ ஸ்வஸ்தோ² பூ⁴த்வா ஸ்பஷ்டரூபம்’ ஸர்வ்வலோகாந் த³த³ர்ஸ²|
Then Jesus again placed his hands on the man’s eyes; and the man saw clearly, his sight was restored, and he saw everything with perfect distinctness.
26 தத: பரம்’ த்வம்’ க்³ராமம்’ மா க³ச்ச² க்³ராமஸ்த²ம்’ கமபி ச கிமப்யநுக்த்வா நிஜக்³ரு’ஹம்’ யாஹீத்யாதி³ஸ்²ய யீஸு²ஸ்தம்’ நிஜக்³ரு’ஹம்’ ப்ரஹிதவாந்|
Jesus sent him to his home, and said, ‘Do not go even into the village.’
27 அநந்தரம்’ ஸி²ஷ்யை: ஸஹிதோ யீஸு²: கைஸரீயாபி²லிபிபுரம்’ ஜகா³ம, பதி² க³ச்ச²ந் தாநப்ரு’ச்ச²த் கோ(அ)ஹம் அத்ர லோகா: கிம்’ வத³ந்தி?
Afterwards Jesus and his disciples went into the villages round Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples this question – ‘Who do people say that I am?’
28 தே ப்ரத்யூசு: த்வாம்’ யோஹநம்’ மஜ்ஜகம்’ வத³ந்தி கிந்து கேபி கேபி ஏலியம்’ வத³ந்தி; அபரே கேபி கேபி ப⁴விஷ்யத்³வாதி³நாம் ஏகோ ஜந இதி வத³ந்தி|
‘John the Baptist,’ they answered, ‘but others say Elijah, while others say one of the prophets.’
29 அத² ஸ தாநப்ரு’ச்ச²த் கிந்து கோஹம்? இத்யத்ர யூயம்’ கிம்’ வத³த²? ததா³ பிதர: ப்ரத்யவத³த் ப⁴வாந் அபி⁴ஷிக்தஸ்த்ராதா|
‘But you,’ he asked, ‘who do you say that I am?’ To this Peter replied, ‘You are the Christ.’
30 தத: ஸ தாந் கா³ட⁴மாதி³ஸ²த்³ யூயம்’ மம கதா² கஸ்மைசித³பி மா கத²யத|
At which Jesus charged them not to say this about him to anyone.
31 மநுஷ்யபுத்ரேணாவஸ்²யம்’ ப³ஹவோ யாதநா போ⁴க்தவ்யா: ப்ராசீநலோகை: ப்ரதா⁴நயாஜகைரத்⁴யாபகைஸ்²ச ஸ நிந்தி³த: ஸந் கா⁴தயிஷ்யதே த்ரு’தீயதி³நே உத்தா²ஸ்யதி ச, யீஸு²: ஸி²ஷ்யாநுபதே³ஷ்டுமாரப்⁴ய கதா²மிமாம்’ ஸ்பஷ்டமாசஷ்ட|
Then he began to teach them that the Son of Man must undergo much suffering, and that he must be rejected by the elders, and the chief priests, and the teachers of the Law, and be put to death, and rise again after three days.
32 தஸ்மாத் பிதரஸ்தஸ்ய ஹஸ்தௌ த்⁴ரு’த்வா தம்’ தர்ஜ்ஜிதவாந்|
He said all this quite openly. But Peter took Jesus aside, and began to rebuke him.
33 கிந்து ஸ முக²ம்’ பராவர்த்ய ஸி²ஷ்யக³ணம்’ நிரீக்ஷ்ய பிதரம்’ தர்ஜயித்வாவாதீ³த்³ தூ³ரீப⁴வ விக்⁴நகாரிந் ஈஸ்²வரீயகார்ய்யாத³பி மநுஷ்யகார்ய்யம்’ துப்⁴யம்’ ரோசததராம்’|
Jesus, however, turning round and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter. ‘Out of my sight, Satan!’ he exclaimed. ‘For you look at things, not as God does, but as people do.’
34 அத² ஸ லோகாந் ஸி²ஷ்யாம்’ஸ்²சாஹூய ஜகா³த³ ய: கஸ்²சிந் மாமநுக³ந்தும் இச்ச²தி ஸ ஆத்மாநம்’ தா³ம்யது, ஸ்வக்ருஸ²ம்’ க்³ரு’ஹீத்வா மத்பஸ்²சாத்³ ஆயாது|
Calling the people and his disciples to him, Jesus said, ‘If anyone wishes to walk in my steps, they must renounce self, take up their cross, and follow me.
35 யதோ ய: கஸ்²சித் ஸ்வப்ராணம்’ ரக்ஷிதுமிச்ச²தி ஸ தம்’ ஹாரயிஷ்யதி, கிந்து ய: கஸ்²சிந் மத³ர்த²ம்’ ஸுஸம்’வாதா³ர்த²ஞ்ச ப்ராணம்’ ஹாரயதி ஸ தம்’ ரக்ஷிஷ்யதி|
For whoever wishes to save their life will lose it, and whoever, for my sake and for the sake of the good news, will lose their life will save it.
36 அபரஞ்ச மநுஜ: ஸர்வ்வம்’ ஜக³த் ப்ராப்ய யதி³ ஸ்வப்ராணம்’ ஹாரயதி தர்ஹி தஸ்ய கோ லாப⁴: ?
What good is it to a person to gain the whole world and forfeit their life?
37 நர: ஸ்வப்ராணவிநிமயேந கிம்’ தா³தும்’ ஸ²க்நோதி?
For what could a person give that is of equal value with their life?
38 ஏதேஷாம்’ வ்யபி⁴சாரிணாம்’ பாபிநாஞ்ச லோகாநாம்’ ஸாக்ஷாத்³ யதி³ கோபி மாம்’ மத்கதா²ஞ்ச லஜ்ஜாஸ்பத³ம்’ ஜாநாதி தர்ஹி மநுஜபுத்ரோ யதா³ த⁴ர்ம்மதூ³தை: ஸஹ பிது: ப்ரபா⁴வேணாக³மிஷ்யதி ததா³ ஸோபி தம்’ லஜ்ஜாஸ்பத³ம்’ ஜ்ஞாஸ்யதி|
Whoever is ashamed of me and of my teaching, in this unfaithful and wicked generation, of them will the Son of Man be ashamed, when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.’
