1 ப்ரத²மதோ யே ஸாக்ஷிணோ வாக்யப்ரசாரகாஸ்²சாஸந் தே(அ)ஸ்மாகம்’ மத்⁴யே யத்³யத் ஸப்ரமாணம்’ வாக்யமர்பயந்தி ஸ்ம
My noble [friend] Theophilus, many people saw the things that [Jesus] did while he was with us, from the time when he started [MTY] [his ministry]. They served God [by teaching people] the message [about the Lord Jesus]. Many of those who heard what they taught wrote down for us accounts of the things that [Jesus did from the time when] he began [his ministry].
2 தத³நுஸாரதோ(அ)ந்யேபி ப³ஹவஸ்தத்³வ்ரு’த்தாந்தம்’ ரசயிதும்’ ப்ரவ்ரு’த்தா: |
3 அதஏவ ஹே மஹாமஹிமதி²யபி²ல் த்வம்’ யா யா: கதா² அஸி²க்ஷ்யதா²ஸ்தாஸாம்’ த்³ரு’ட⁴ப்ரமாணாநி யதா² ப்ராப்நோஷி
I myself have studied these accounts carefully. So I decided that it would be good for me also to write for you [(sg)] an accurate account of these matters.
4 தத³ர்த²ம்’ ப்ரத²மமாரப்⁴ய தாநி ஸர்வ்வாணி ஜ்ஞாத்வாஹமபி அநுக்ரமாத் ஸர்வ்வவ்ரு’த்தாந்தாந் துப்⁴யம்’ லேகி²தும்’ மதிமகார்ஷம்|
I want you to know the truth about what you have been taught {what others have taught you}.
5 யிஹூதா³தே³ஸீ²யஹேரோத்³நாமகே ராஜத்வம்’ குர்வ்வதி அபீ³யயாஜகஸ்ய பர்ய்யாயாதி⁴காரீ ஸிக²ரியநாமக ஏகோ யாஜகோ ஹாரோணவம்’ஸோ²த்³ப⁴வா இலீஸே²வாக்²யா
When King Herod [the Great ruled] Judea [district], there was a [Jewish] priest named Zechariah. He belonged to the [group of priests called] the Abijah group. He and his wife Elizabeth were both descended from the [first priest of Israel], Aaron.
6 தஸ்ய ஜாயா த்³வாவிமௌ நிர்தோ³ஷௌ ப்ரபோ⁴: ஸர்வ்வாஜ்ஞா வ்யவஸ்தா²ஸ்²ச ஸம்’மந்ய ஈஸ்²வரத்³ரு’ஷ்டௌ தா⁴ர்ம்மிகாவாஸ்தாம்|
[God considered that] both of them were righteous, because they constantly completely obeyed everything that God had commanded.
7 தயோ: ஸந்தாந ஏகோபி நாஸீத், யத இலீஸே²வா ப³ந்த்⁴யா தௌ த்³வாவேவ வ்ரு’த்³தா⁴வப⁴வதாம்|
But they had no children, because Elizabeth had been unable to bear children. Furthermore, she and her husband were very old.
8 யதா³ ஸ்வபர்ய்யாநுக்ரமேண ஸிக²ரிய ஈஸ்²வாஸ்ய ஸமக்ஷம்’ யாஜகீயம்’ கர்ம்ம கரோதி
One day [Zechariah’s] group was doing their work [in the Temple in Jerusalem], and he was serving as a priest in God’s presence.
9 ததா³ யஜ்ஞஸ்ய தி³நபரிபாய்யா பரமேஸ்²வரஸ்ய மந்தி³ரே ப்ரவேஸ²காலே தூ⁴பஜ்வாலநம்’ கர்ம்ம தஸ்ய கரணீயமாஸீத்|
Following their custom, [the other priests] chose him by lot to enter the Lord’s temple and burn incense.
10 தத்³தூ⁴பஜ்வாலநகாலே லோகநிவஹே ப்ரார்த²நாம்’ கர்தும்’ ப³ஹிஸ்திஷ்ட²தி
While he was burning the incense, many people were outside [in the courtyard], praying.
11 ஸதி ஸிக²ரியோ யஸ்யாம்’ வேத்³யாம்’ தூ⁴பம்’ ஜ்வாலயதி தத்³த³க்ஷிணபார்ஸ்²வே பரமேஸ்²வரஸ்ய தூ³த ஏக உபஸ்தி²தோ த³ர்ஸ²நம்’ த³தௌ³|
Then an angel whom God had [sent] appeared to him. The angel was standing at the right side of the place [where the priests burned] incense.
12 தம்’ த்³ரு’ஷ்ட்வா ஸிக²ரிய உத்³விவிஜே ஸ²ஸ²ங்கே ச|
When Zechariah saw the angel, he was startled and became very afraid.
13 ததா³ ஸ தூ³தஸ்தம்’ ப³பா⁴ஷே ஹே ஸிக²ரிய மா பை⁴ஸ்தவ ப்ரார்த²நா க்³ராஹ்யா ஜாதா தவ பா⁴ர்ய்யா இலீஸே²வா புத்ரம்’ ப்ரஸோஷ்யதே தஸ்ய நாம யோஹந் இதி கரிஷ்யஸி|
But the angel said to him, “Zechariah, do not be afraid! When you [(sg)] prayed [asking God for a son] (OR, [that God would send the Messiah]), God heard what you prayed. [So] your wife Elizabeth shall bear a son. You must name him John.
14 கிஞ்ச த்வம்’ ஸாநந்த³: ஸஹர்ஷஸ்²ச ப⁴விஷ்யஸி தஸ்ய ஜந்மநி ப³ஹவ ஆநந்தி³ஷ்யந்தி ச|
He will cause you to be very happy, and many other people will also be happy because he is born.
15 யதோ ஹேதோ: ஸ பரமேஸ்²வரஸ்ய கோ³சரே மஹாந் ப⁴விஷ்யதி ததா² த்³ராக்ஷாரஸம்’ ஸுராம்’ வா கிமபி ந பாஸ்யதி, அபரம்’ ஜந்மாரப்⁴ய பவித்ரேணாத்மநா பரிபூர்ண:
God will consider him to be very important. He must never drink wine or any other alcoholic drink, [in order that he will be completely dedicated to God]. He will be controlled by the Holy Spirit {The Holy Spirit will control him} from before he is born.
16 ஸந் இஸ்ராயேல்வம்’ஸீ²யாந் அநேகாந் ப்ரபோ⁴: பரமேஸ்²வரஸ்ய மார்க³மாநேஷ்யதி|
He will [persuade] many people in Israel to turn away [from their sins and please] the Lord their God.
17 ஸந்தாநாந் ப்ரதி பித்ரு’ணாம்’ மநாம்’ஸி த⁴ர்ம்மஜ்ஞாநம்’ ப்ரத்யநாஜ்ஞாக்³ராஹிணஸ்²ச பராவர்த்தயிதும்’, ப்ரபோ⁴: பரமேஸ்²வரஸ்ய ஸேவார்த²ம் ஏகாம்’ ஸஜ்ஜிதஜாதிம்’ விதா⁴துஞ்ச ஸ ஏலியரூபாத்மஸ²க்திப்ராப்தஸ்தஸ்யாக்³ரே க³மிஷ்யதி|
As [God’s] Spirit enables him [to preach] powerfully as [the prophet] Elijah did, he will precede [the Messiah]. He will cause parents [SYN] to act [peacefully] toward their children [again]. He will cause [many] people who do not obey [God to hear and obey] the wise things that righteous people [tell them]. He will do this in order to help [many] people to be ready when the Lord [comes].”
18 ததா³ ஸிக²ரியோ தூ³தமவாதீ³த் கத²மேதத்³ வேத்ஸ்யாமி? யதோஹம்’ வ்ரு’த்³தோ⁴ மம பா⁴ர்ய்யா ச வ்ரு’த்³தா⁴|
Then Zechariah said to the angel, “I am very old, and my wife is also so old [that she cannot bear a child. So] (I cannot [believe] that what you [(sg)] said [will happen]!/how can I [believe] that what you [(sg)] said [will happen]?) [RHQ]”
19 ததோ தூ³த: ப்ரத்யுவாச பஸ்²யேஸ்²வரஸ்ய ஸாக்ஷாத்³வர்த்தீ ஜிப்³ராயேல்நாமா தூ³தோஹம்’ த்வயா ஸஹ கதா²ம்’ க³தி³தும்’ துப்⁴யமிமாம்’ ஸு²ப⁴வார்த்தாம்’ தா³துஞ்ச ப்ரேஷித: |
Then the angel said to him, “I am [God’s chief angel], Gabriel! [I do what God tells me, because] I constantly am in God’s presence! I was sent {[He] sent me} to tell you [(sg)] something good [that is going to happen to you].
20 கிந்து மதீ³யம்’ வாக்யம்’ காலே ப²லிஷ்யதி தத் த்வயா ந ப்ரதீதம் அத: காரணாத்³ யாவதே³வ தாநி ந ஸேத்ஸ்யந்தி தாவத் த்வம்’ வக்தும்’மஸ²க்தோ மூகோ ப⁴வ|
What I have told you will certainly happen at the time [God decides], but you did not believe what I told you. So now [God will make] you will be unable to talk until the day [your son is born]”!
21 ததா³நீம்’ யே யே லோகா: ஸிக²ரியமபைக்ஷந்த தே மத்⁴யேமந்தி³ரம்’ தஸ்ய ப³ஹுவிலம்பா³த்³ ஆஸ்²சர்ய்யம்’ மேநிரே|
While [Zechariah and the angel] were talking, the people [in the courtyard] were waiting for Zechariah [to come out]. They wondered, “Why is he staying in the Temple for such a long time?”
22 ஸ ப³ஹிராக³தோ யதா³ கிமபி வாக்யம்’ வக்துமஸ²க்த: ஸங்கேதம்’ க்ரு’த்வா நி: ஸ²ப்³த³ஸ்தஸ்யௌ ததா³ மத்⁴யேமந்தி³ரம்’ கஸ்யசித்³ த³ர்ஸ²நம்’ தேந ப்ராப்தம் இதி ஸர்வ்வே பு³பு³தி⁴ரே|
When Zechariah came out, he was not able to speak to the people. Because he could not talk, he made motions with his hands [to try to convey what had happened]. Then they realized that he had seen (a vision [from God]/something that [God] showed him) while he was in the Temple.
23 அநந்தரம்’ தஸ்ய ஸேவநபர்ய்யாயே ஸம்பூர்ணே ஸதி ஸ நிஜகே³ஹம்’ ஜகா³ம|
When Zechariah’s time to work [as a priest in the Temple] was finished, he [left Jerusalem and] returned to his home.
24 கதிபயதி³நேஷு க³தேஷு தஸ்ய பா⁴ர்ய்யா இலீஸே²வா க³ர்ப்³ப⁴வதீ ப³பூ⁴வ
Some time later his wife Elizabeth became pregnant [EUP]. She did not leave their house for five months, [because she knew that people would laugh at her if she told them that she was pregnant].
25 பஸ்²சாத் ஸா பஞ்சமாஸாந் ஸம்’கோ³ப்யாகத²யத் லோகாநாம்’ ஸமக்ஷம்’ மமாபமாநம்’ க²ண்ட³யிதும்’ பரமேஸ்²வரோ மயி த்³ரு’ஷ்டிம்’ பாதயித்வா கர்ம்மேத்³ரு’ஸ²ம்’ க்ரு’தவாந்|
But she thought, “God has enabled me to become pregnant. He has pitied me and I will no longer be ashamed [because I have no children]!”
26 அபரஞ்ச தஸ்யா க³ர்ப்³ப⁴ஸ்ய ஷஷ்டே² மாஸே ஜாதே கா³லீல்ப்ரதே³ஸீ²யநாஸரத்புரே
When Elizabeth had been [pregnant] [EUP] [for almost] six months, the angel Gabriel was sent by God {God sent the angel Gabriel} [again].
27 தா³யூதோ³ வம்’ஸீ²யாய யூஷப்²நாம்நே புருஷாய யா மரியம்நாமகுமாரீ வாக்³த³த்தாஸீத் தஸ்யா: ஸமீபம்’ ஜிப்³ராயேல் தூ³த ஈஸ்²வரேண ப்ரஹித: |
[This time] he went to Nazareth [town] in Galilee [district], to a virgin whose name was Mary. It had been {[Her parents] had} promised that she would marry a man named Joseph, who was descended from [King] David.
28 ஸ க³த்வா ஜகா³த³ ஹே ஈஸ்²வராநுக்³ரு’ஹீதகந்யே தவ ஸு²ப⁴ம்’ பூ⁴யாத் ப்ரபு⁴: பரமேஸ்²வரஸ்தவ ஸஹாயோஸ்தி நாரீணாம்’ மத்⁴யே த்வமேவ த⁴ந்யா|
The angel greeted her and said, “(The Lord/God) is with you [(sg)] and you will be greatly blessed {[has decided to] greatly bless you}!”
29 ததா³நீம்’ ஸா தம்’ த்³ரு’ஷ்ட்வா தஸ்ய வாக்யத உத்³விஜ்ய கீத்³ரு’ஸ²ம்’ பா⁴ஷணமித³ம் இதி மநஸா சிந்தயாமாஸ|
But Mary was very confused [when she heard] that. She wondered what [the angel meant] by these words.
30 ததோ தூ³தோ(அ)வத³த் ஹே மரியம் ப⁴யம்’ மாகார்ஷீ: , த்வயி பரமேஸ்²வரஸ்யாநுக்³ரஹோஸ்தி|
Then the angel said to her, “Mary, God is very pleased with you [(sg)], so do not be afraid.
31 பஸ்²ய த்வம்’ க³ர்ப்³ப⁴ம்’ த்⁴ரு’த்வா புத்ரம்’ ப்ரஸோஷ்யஸே தஸ்ய நாம யீஸு²ரிதி கரிஷ்யஸி|
You will become pregnant and bear a son, and you must name him Jesus.
32 ஸ மஹாந் ப⁴விஷ்யதி ததா² ஸர்வ்வேப்⁴ய: ஸ்²ரேஷ்ட²ஸ்ய புத்ர இதி க்²யாஸ்யதி; அபரம்’ ப்ரபு⁴: பரமேஸ்²வரஸ்தஸ்ய பிதுர்தா³யூத³: ஸிம்’ஹாஸநம்’ தஸ்மை தா³ஸ்யதி;
He will become great. He will be called {[People will] call him} (the Son of God/the man who is also God). God, the Lord, will make him a king [MTY] as his ancestor [King] David was.
33 ததா² ஸ யாகூபோ³ வம்’ஸோ²பரி ஸர்வ்வதா³ ராஜத்வம்’ கரிஷ்யதி, தஸ்ய ராஜத்வஸ்யாந்தோ ந ப⁴விஷ்யதி| (aiōn g165)
He will be the King of [the] Jews, the descendants [MTY] of [your ancestor] Jacob, forever. He will rule as king forever!” (aiōn g165)
34 ததா³ மரியம் தம்’ தூ³தம்’ ப³பா⁴ஷே நாஹம்’ புருஷஸங்க³ம்’ கரோமி தர்ஹி கத²மேதத் ஸம்ப⁴விஷ்யதி?
Then Mary said to the angel, “I am a virgin, so how can I [have a baby]?”
35 ததோ தூ³தோ(அ)கத²யத் பவித்ர ஆத்மா த்வாமாஸ்²ராயிஷ்யதி ததா² ஸர்வ்வஸ்²ரேஷ்ட²ஸ்ய ஸ²க்திஸ்தவோபரி சா²யாம்’ கரிஷ்யதி ததோ ஹேதோஸ்தவ க³ர்ப்³பா⁴த்³ ய: பவித்ரபா³லகோ ஜநிஷ்யதே ஸ ஈஸ்²வரபுத்ர இதி க்²யாதிம்’ ப்ராப்ஸ்யதி|
The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come to you; the power of God [MTY/EUP] will overshadow you [and enable you to become pregnant]. So the child [you will] bear will be completely set apart {give himself completely} to obey God, and he will be called {[people] will say that he is} (the Son of God/the man who is also God).
36 அபரஞ்ச பஸ்²ய தவ ஜ்ஞாதிரிலீஸே²வா யாம்’ ஸர்வ்வே ப³ந்த்⁴யாமவத³ந் இதா³நீம்’ ஸா வார்த்³த⁴க்யே ஸந்தாநமேகம்’ க³ர்ப்³பே⁴(அ)தா⁴ரயத் தஸ்ய ஷஷ்ட²மாஸோபூ⁴த்|
[I also need to tell you something else]. Your cousin Elizabeth is very old, and it was thought {[people] said} that she could not bear any children. But she has been [pregnant] [EUP] [for almost] six months, and will bear a son!
37 கிமபி கர்ம்ம நாஸாத்⁴யம் ஈஸ்²வரஸ்ய|
[You should not be surprised at that], because God can do everything!”
38 ததா³ மரியம் ஜகா³த³, பஸ்²ய ப்ரபே⁴ரஹம்’ தா³ஸீ மஹ்யம்’ தவ வாக்யாநுஸாரேண ஸர்வ்வமேதத்³ க⁴டதாம்; அநநதரம்’ தூ³தஸ்தஸ்யா: ஸமீபாத் ப்ரதஸ்தே²|
Then Mary said, “All right, I want to serve (the Lord/God), so may what you [(sg)] have said about me come true!” Then the angel left her.
39 அத² கதிபயதி³நாத் பரம்’ மரியம் தஸ்மாத் பர்வ்வதமயப்ரதே³ஸீ²யயிஹூதா³யா நக³ரமேகம்’ ஸீ²க்⁴ரம்’ க³த்வா
Very soon after that, Mary got ready and went quickly to a town in the highlands of Judea [district] where Zechariah lived.
40 ஸிக²ரியயாஜகஸ்ய க்³ரு’ஹம்’ ப்ரவிஸ்²ய தஸ்ய ஜாயாம் இலீஸே²வாம்’ ஸம்போ³த்⁴யாவத³த்|
She entered his house and greeted [his wife] Elizabeth.
41 ததோ மரியம: ஸம்போ³த⁴நவாக்யே இலீஸே²வாயா: கர்ணயோ: ப்ரவிஷ்டமாத்ரே ஸதி தஸ்யா க³ர்ப்³ப⁴ஸ்த²பா³லகோ நநர்த்த| தத இலீஸே²வா பவித்ரேணாத்மநா பரிபூர்ணா ஸதீ
As soon as Elizabeth heard Mary greet her, the baby moved inside [Elizabeth’s] womb. The Holy Spirit took complete control of Elizabeth,
42 ப்ரோச்சைர்க³தி³துமாரேபே⁴, யோஷிதாம்’ மத்⁴யே த்வமேவ த⁴ந்யா, தவ க³ர்ப்³ப⁴ஸ்த²: ஸி²ஸு²ஸ்²ச த⁴ந்ய: |
and she said loudly [to Mary], “[God] has blessed you [more than] he has blessed [any other] woman, and [he has] blessed the child you will bear!
43 த்வம்’ ப்ரபோ⁴ர்மாதா, மம நிவேஸ²நே த்வயா சரணாவர்பிதௌ, மமாத்³ய ஸௌபா⁴க்³யமேதத்|
(I am not worthy that [God would allow you] to visit me!/Why is [God allowing you] to visit me?) [RHQ] You will be the mother of my Lord!
44 பஸ்²ய தவ வாக்யே மம கர்ணயோ: ப்ரவிஷ்டமாத்ரே ஸதி மமோத³ரஸ்த²: ஸி²ஸு²ராநந்தா³ந் நநர்த்த|
[I realize this because] as soon as I heard you greet me, the baby inside my womb moved because he was so happy [that you had come].
45 யா ஸ்த்ரீ வ்யஸ்²வஸீத் ஸா த⁴ந்யா, யதோ ஹேதோஸ்தாம்’ ப்ரதி பரமேஸ்²வரோக்தம்’ வாக்யம்’ ஸர்வ்வம்’ ஸித்³த⁴ம்’ ப⁴விஷ்யதி|
[God] is pleased with you [because] you believed that what (the Lord/God) told you would come true.”
46 ததா³நீம்’ மரியம் ஜகா³த³| த⁴ந்யவாத³ம்’ பரேஸ²ஸ்ய கரோதி மாமகம்’ மந: |
Then Mary [praised God by] saying/singing: “, how I [SYN] praise (the Lord/God)!
47 மமாத்மா தாரகேஸே² ச ஸமுல்லாஸம்’ ப்ரக³ச்ச²தி|
I am happy because God is the one who saves me.
48 அகரோத் ஸ ப்ரபு⁴ ர்து³ஷ்டிம்’ ஸ்வதா³ஸ்யா து³ர்க³திம்’ ப்ரதி| பஸ்²யாத்³யாரப்⁴ய மாம்’ த⁴ந்யாம்’ வக்ஷ்யந்தி புருஷா: ஸதா³|
I was only his lowly servant girl, but he did not forget me. So from now on, everyone will say that God was pleased with me,
49 ய: ஸர்வ்வஸ²க்திமாந் யஸ்ய நாமாபி ச பவித்ரகம்’| ஸ ஏவ ஸுமஹத்கர்ம்ம க்ரு’தவாந் மந்நிமித்தகம்’|
because they will hear about the things that God [MTY], the mighty one, has done for me. He [MTY] is awesome!
50 யே பி³ப்⁴யதி ஜநாஸ்தஸ்மாத் தேஷாம்’ ஸந்தாநபம்’க்திஷு| அநுகம்பா ததீ³யா ச ஸர்வ்வதை³வ ஸுதிஷ்ட²தி|
He acts mercifully toward all those who respect him.
51 ஸ்வபா³ஹுப³லதஸ்தேந ப்ராகாஸ்²யத பராக்ரம: | மந: குமந்த்ரணாஸார்த்³த⁴ம்’ விகீர்ய்யந்தே(அ)பி⁴மாநிந: |
He shows people that he [MTY] is very powerful. He scatters those who think proudly.
52 ஸிம்’ஹாஸநக³தால்லோகாந் ப³லிநஸ்²சாவரோஹ்ய ஸ: | பதே³ஷூச்சேஷு லோகாம்’ஸ்து க்ஷுத்³ராந் ஸம்’ஸ்தா²பயத்யபி|
He does not let mighty kings rule [MTY] any more, but he honors people who are oppressed (OR, humble).
53 க்ஷுதி⁴தாந் மாநவாந் த்³ரவ்யைருத்தமை: பரிதர்ப்ய ஸ: | ஸகலாந் த⁴நிநோ லோகாந் விஸ்ரு’ஜேத்³ ரிக்தஹஸ்தகாந்|
He gives good things to eat to those who are hungry, but he sends away the rich people without giving them anything.
54 இப்³ராஹீமி ச தத்³வம்’ஸே² யா த³யாஸ்தி ஸதை³வ தாம்’| ஸ்ம்ரு’த்வா புரா பித்ரு’ணாம்’ நோ யதா² ஸாக்ஷாத் ப்ரதிஸ்²ருதம்’| (aiōn g165)
And now he has remembered what he promised. So he has helped me and all the other people of [MTY] Israel who serve him.
55 இஸ்ராயேல்ஸேவகஸ்தேந ததோ²பக்ரியதே ஸ்வயம்’||
He promised to Abraham and all our other ancestors who descended from him that he would act mercifully toward them forever.” (aiōn g165)
56 அநந்தரம்’ மரியம் ப்ராயேண மாஸத்ரயம் இலீஸே²வயா ஸஹோஷித்வா வ்யாகு⁴ய்ய நிஜநிவேஸ²நம்’ யயௌ|
Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months. Then she returned to her home.
57 தத³நந்தரம் இலீஸே²வாயா: ப்ரஸவகால உபஸ்தி²தே ஸதி ஸா புத்ரம்’ ப்ராஸோஷ்ட|
When it was time for Elizabeth to give birth to her child, she bore a son.
58 தத: பரமேஸ்²வரஸ்தஸ்யாம்’ மஹாநுக்³ரஹம்’ க்ரு’தவாந் ஏதத் ஸ்²ருத்வா ஸமீபவாஸிந: குடும்பா³ஸ்²சாக³த்ய தயா ஸஹ முமுதி³ரே|
Her neighbors and relatives heard how (the Lord/God) had greatly blessed her [by enabling her to bear a child], so they were happy along with [Elizabeth].
59 ததா²ஷ்டமே தி³நே தே பா³லகஸ்ய த்வசம்’ சே²த்தும் ஏத்ய தஸ்ய பித்ரு’நாமாநுரூபம்’ தந்நாம ஸிக²ரிய இதி கர்த்துமீஷு: |
Seven days later they gathered together for the [ceremony for] circumcising the baby [to show that he belonged to God]. They wanted to give the baby the same name as his father, Zechariah.
60 கிந்து தஸ்ய மாதாகத²யத் தந்ந, நாமாஸ்ய யோஹந் இதி கர்த்தவ்யம்|
But his mother said, “No, [his name will not be Zechariah]. His name will be John!”
61 ததா³ தே வ்யாஹரந் தவ வம்’ஸ²மத்⁴யே நாமேத்³ரு’ஸ²ம்’ கஸ்யாபி நாஸ்தி|
[So] they said to her, “[John] is not the name of any of your [(dl)] relatives, [so you(dl) should not give him that name]!”
62 தத: பரம்’ தஸ்ய பிதரம்’ ஸிக²ரியம்’ ப்ரதி ஸங்கேத்ய பப்ரச்சு²: ஸி²ஸோ²: கிம்’ நாம காரிஷ்யதே?
Then they made motions with their hands to Zechariah, [for him] to indicate what name [he] wanted to be given {to give} to his son.
63 தத: ஸ ப²லகமேகம்’ யாசித்வா லிலேக² தஸ்ய நாம யோஹந் ப⁴விஷ்யதி| தஸ்மாத் ஸர்வ்வே ஆஸ்²சர்ய்யம்’ மேநிரே|
[So] he signaled that they [should give him] a tablet [to write on. When they gave him one], he wrote [on it], “His name is John.” All those [who were there] were surprised!
64 தத்க்ஷணம்’ ஸிக²ரியஸ்ய ஜிஹ்வாஜாட்³யே(அ)பக³தே ஸ முக²ம்’ வ்யாதா³ய ஸ்பஷ்டவர்ணமுச்சார்ய்ய ஈஸ்²வரஸ்ய கு³ணாநுவாத³ம்’ சகார|
Immediately Zechariah was able to speak again [MTY], and he praised God.
65 தஸ்மாச்சதுர்தி³க்ஸ்தா²: ஸமீபவாஸிலோகா பீ⁴தா ஏவமேதா: ஸர்வ்வா: கதா² யிஹூதா³யா: பர்வ்வதமயப்ரதே³ஸ²ஸ்ய ஸர்வ்வத்ர ப்ரசாரிதா: |
All their neighbors were amazed/awestruck! They told other people who lived all over the highlands of Judea about what had happened.
66 தஸ்மாத் ஸ்²ரோதாரோ மந: ஸு ஸ்தா²பயித்வா கத²யாம்ப³பூ⁴வு: கீத்³ரு’ஸோ²யம்’ பா³லோ ப⁴விஷ்யதி? அத² பரமேஸ்²வரஸ்தஸ்ய ஸஹாயோபூ⁴த்|
Everyone who heard about it kept thinking about it. They were saying, “We wonder what will this child do [for God when] he [grows up] [RHQ]!” They wondered that because [from what had happened they were sure that] God would be helping that child [SYN] [in a powerful way].
67 ததா³ யோஹந: பிதா ஸிக²ரிய: பவித்ரேணாத்மநா பரிபூர்ண: ஸந் ஏதாத்³ரு’ஸ²ம்’ ப⁴விஷ்யத்³வாக்யம்’ கத²யாமாஸ|
[After] Zechariah’s [son was born], Zechariah was completely directed by the Holy Spirit {the Holy Spirit completely directed Zechariah} as he spoke these words that came from God:
68 இஸ்ராயேல: ப்ரபு⁴ ர்யஸ்து ஸ த⁴ந்ய: பரமேஸ்²வர: | அநுக்³ரு’ஹ்ய நிஜால்லோகாந் ஸ ஏவ பரிமோசயேத்|
“Praise the Lord, the God whom we(inc) people of Israel worship, because he has come to set us, his people, free from our enemies.
69 விபக்ஷஜநஹஸ்தேப்⁴யோ யதா² மோச்யாமஹே வயம்’| யாவஜ்ஜீவஞ்ச த⁴ர்ம்மேண ஸாரல்யேந ச நிர்ப⁴யா: |
He is sending us someone who will powerfully [MTY] save us, someone who is descended from [MTY] King David, who served God well.
70 ஸேவாமஹை தமேவைகம் ஏதத்காரணமேவ ச| ஸ்வகீயம்’ ஸுபவித்ரஞ்ச ஸம்’ஸ்ம்ரு’த்ய நியமம்’ ஸதா³|
Long ago God caused his prophets to say that he would do that. (aiōn g165)
71 க்ரு’பயா புருஷாந் பூர்வ்வாந் நிகஷார்தா²த்து ந: பிது: | இப்³ராஹீம: ஸமீபே யம்’ ஸ²பத²ம்’ க்ரு’தவாந் புரா|
He will rescue us from our enemies, and he will save us from the power of all those who hate us.
72 தமேவ ஸப²லம்’ கர்த்தம்’ ததா² ஸ²த்ருக³ணஸ்ய ச| ரு’தீயாகாரிணஸ்²சைவ கரேப்⁴யோ ரக்ஷணாய ந: |
He will do this because he has not forgotten what he promised our ancestors; he made an agreement that he would act mercifully to us, their descendants.
That is what he strongly promised our ancestor Abraham that he would do.
74 யதோ²க்தவாந் ததா² ஸ்வஸ்ய தா³யூத³: ஸேவகஸ்ய து|
God told him that we would be rescued {he would rescue us} from the power of our enemies, that he would enable us to serve him without being afraid,
75 வம்’ஸே² த்ராதாரமேகம்’ ஸ ஸமுத்பாதி³தவாந் ஸ்வயம்|
that he would cause us to be completely dedicated to him, and enable us to live righteously all of our lives.”
76 அதோ ஹே பா³லக த்வந்து ஸர்வ்வேப்⁴ய: ஸ்²ரேஷ்ட² ஏவ ய: | தஸ்யைவ பா⁴விவாதீ³தி ப்ரவிக்²யாதோ ப⁴விஷ்யஸி| அஸ்மாகம்’ சரணாந் க்ஷேமே மார்கே³ சாலயிதும்’ ஸதா³| ஏவம்’ த்⁴வாந்தே(அ)ர்த²தோ ம்ரு’த்யோஸ்²சா²யாயாம்’ யே து மாநவா: |
[Then Zechariah said this to] his little son: “My child, you will be called {people will say that you are} a prophet whom God [MTY/EUP] has sent; you will begin your work before (the Lord/Messiah) comes; you will prepare people so that they will be ready for him. (OR, you will begin your work before the Messiah comes).
77 உபவிஷ்டாஸ்து தாநேவ ப்ரகாஸ²யிதுமேவ ஹி| க்ரு’த்வா மஹாநுகம்பாம்’ ஹி யாமேவ பரமேஸ்²வர: |
You will tell God’s people how he will forgive them and save them from being punished for their sins.
78 ஊர்த்³வ்வாத் ஸூர்ய்யமுதா³ய்யைவாஸ்மப்⁴யம்’ ப்ராதா³த்து த³ர்ஸ²நம்’| தயாநுகம்பயா ஸ்வஸ்ய லோகாநாம்’ பாபமோசநே|
Our God will do that because he is very kind to us. Just like a new day begins when the sun rises [MET], God will do that new thing for us when the Messiah comes to us from heaven.
79 பரித்ராணஸ்ய தேப்⁴யோ ஹி ஜ்ஞாநவிஸ்²ராணநாய ச| ப்ரபோ⁴ ர்மார்க³ம்’ பரிஷ்கர்த்தும்’ தஸ்யாக்³ராயீ ப⁴விஷ்யஸி||
People who do not know God [MET] are like those who sit in the darkness. They are afraid [MTY] that they will soon die. But when the Messiah tells us God’s message, it will be like causing such people to see a bright light. He will guide us [SYN] so that we will be living peacefully.”
80 அத² பா³லக: ஸ²ரீரேண பு³த்³த்⁴யா ச வர்த்³தி⁴துமாரேபே⁴; அபரஞ்ச ஸ இஸ்ராயேலோ வம்’ஸீ²யலோகாநாம்’ ஸமீபே யாவந்ந ப்ரகடீபூ⁴தஸ்தாஸ்தாவத் ப்ராந்தரே ந்யவஸத்|
[Later], Zechariah’s son grew up and became spiritually strong. Then he lived in a desolate region until he began to preach to the Israeli people.
