1 அபரஞ்ச தஸ்மிந் காலே ராஜ்யஸ்ய ஸர்வ்வேஷாம்’ லோகாநாம்’ நாமாநி லேக²யிதும் அக³ஸ்தகைஸர ஆஜ்ஞாபயாமாஸ|
In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered in a census.
2 தத³நுஸாரேண குரீணியநாமநி ஸுரியாதே³ஸ²ஸ்ய ஸா²ஸகே ஸதி நாமலேக²நம்’ ப்ராரேபே⁴|
This was the first census, and it took place when Quirinius was governor of Syria.
3 அதோ ஹேதோ ர்நாம லேகி²தும்’ ஸர்வ்வே ஜநா: ஸ்வீயம்’ ஸ்வீயம்’ நக³ரம்’ ஜக்³மு: |
So everyone went to be registered, each to his own town.
4 ததா³நீம்’ யூஷப்² நாம லேகி²தும்’ வாக்³த³த்தயா ஸ்வபா⁴ர்ய்யயா க³ர்ப்³ப⁴வத்யா மரியமா ஸஹ ஸ்வயம்’ தா³யூத³: ஸஜாதிவம்’ஸ² இதி காரணாத்³ கா³லீல்ப்ரதே³ஸ²ஸ்ய நாஸரத்நக³ராத்³
Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,
5 யிஹூதா³ப்ரதே³ஸ²ஸ்ய பை³த்லேஹமாக்²யம்’ தா³யூத்³நக³ரம்’ ஜகா³ம|
to register himself along with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.
6 அந்யச்ச தத்ர ஸ்தா²நே தயோஸ்திஷ்ட²தோ: ஸதோ ர்மரியம: ப்ரஸூதிகால உபஸ்தி²தே
While they were there, the days were fulfilled for her to give birth,
7 ஸா தம்’ ப்ரத²மஸுதம்’ ப்ராஸோஷ்ட கிந்து தஸ்மிந் வாஸக்³ரு’ஹே ஸ்தா²நாபா⁴வாத்³ பா³லகம்’ வஸ்த்ரேண வேஷ்டயித்வா கோ³ஸா²லாயாம்’ ஸ்தா²பயாமாஸ|
and she gave birth to her firstborn son. Then she wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in the manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 அநந்தரம்’ யே கியந்தோ மேஷபாலகா: ஸ்வமேஷவ்ரஜரக்ஷாயை தத்ப்ரதே³ஸே² ஸ்தி²த்வா ரஜந்யாம்’ ப்ராந்தரே ப்ரஹரிண: கர்ம்ம குர்வ்வந்தி,
In the same region there were shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 தேஷாம்’ ஸமீபம்’ பரமேஸ்²வரஸ்ய தூ³த ஆக³த்யோபதஸ்தௌ²; ததா³ சதுஷ்பார்ஸ்²வே பரமேஸ்²வரஸ்ய தேஜஸ: ப்ரகாஸி²தத்வாத் தே(அ)திஸ²ஸ²ங்கிரே|
And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear.
10 ததா³ ஸ தூ³த உவாச மா பை⁴ஷ்ட பஸ்²யதாத்³ய தா³யூத³: புரே யுஷ்மந்நிமித்தம்’ த்ராதா ப்ரபு⁴: க்²ரீஷ்டோ(அ)ஜநிஷ்ட,
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy, which will be for all the people.
11 ஸர்வ்வேஷாம்’ லோகாநாம்’ மஹாநந்த³ஜநகம் இமம்’ மங்க³லவ்ரு’த்தாந்தம்’ யுஷ்மாந் ஜ்ஞாபயாமி|
For to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
12 யூயம்’ (தத்ஸ்தா²நம்’ க³த்வா) வஸ்த்ரவேஷ்டிதம்’ தம்’ பா³லகம்’ கோ³ஸா²லாயாம்’ ஸ²யநம்’ த்³ரக்ஷ்யத² யுஷ்மாந் ப்ரதீத³ம்’ சிஹ்நம்’ ப⁴விஷ்யதி|
This will be the sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 தூ³த இமாம்’ கதா²ம்’ கதி²தவதி தத்ராகஸ்மாத் ஸ்வர்கீ³யா: ப்ரு’தநா ஆக³த்ய கதா²ம் இமாம்’ கத²யித்வேஸ்²வரஸ்ய கு³ணாநந்வவாதி³ஷு: , யதா²,
Suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,
14 ஸர்வ்வோர்த்³வ்வஸ்தை²ரீஸ்²வரஸ்ய மஹிமா ஸம்ப்ரகாஸ்²யதாம்’| ஸா²ந்திர்பூ⁴யாத் ப்ரு’தி²வ்யாஸ்து ஸந்தோஷஸ்²ச நராந் ப்ரதி||
“Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth, good will among men.”
15 தத: பரம்’ தேஷாம்’ ஸந்நிதே⁴ ர்தூ³தக³ணே ஸ்வர்க³ம்’ க³தே மேஷபாலகா: பரஸ்பரம் அவேசந் ஆக³ச்ச²த ப்ரபு⁴: பரமேஸ்²வரோ யாம்’ க⁴டநாம்’ ஜ்ஞாபிதவாந் தஸ்யா யாத²ர்யம்’ ஜ்ஞாதும்’ வயமது⁴நா பை³த்லேஹம்புரம்’ யாம: |
When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”
16 பஸ்²சாத் தே தூர்ணம்’ வ்ரஜித்வா மரியமம்’ யூஷப²ம்’ கோ³ஸா²லாயாம்’ ஸ²யநம்’ பா³லகஞ்ச த³த்³ரு’ஸு²: |
So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger.
17 இத்த²ம்’ த்³ரு’ஷ்ட்வா பா³லகஸ்யார்தே² ப்ரோக்தாம்’ ஸர்வ்வகதா²ம்’ தே ப்ராசாரயாஞ்சக்ரு: |
After seeing him, they made widely known what they had been told about the child,
18 ததோ யே லோகா மேஷரக்ஷகாணாம்’ வத³நேப்⁴யஸ்தாம்’ வார்த்தாம்’ ஸு²ஸ்²ருவுஸ்தே மஹாஸ்²சர்ய்யம்’ மேநிரே|
and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them.
19 கிந்து மரியம் ஏதத்ஸர்வ்வக⁴டநாநாம்’ தாத்பர்ய்யம்’ விவிச்ய மநஸி ஸ்தா²பயாமாஸ|
But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.
20 தத்பஸ்²சாத்³ தூ³தவிஜ்ஞப்தாநுரூபம்’ ஸ்²ருத்வா த்³ரு’ஷ்ட்வா ச மேஷபாலகா ஈஸ்²வரஸ்ய கு³ணாநுவாத³ம்’ த⁴ந்யவாத³ஞ்ச குர்வ்வாணா: பராவ்ரு’த்ய யயு: |
Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
21 அத² பா³லகஸ்ய த்வக்சே²த³நகாலே(அ)ஷ்டமதி³வஸே ஸமுபஸ்தி²தே தஸ்ய க³ர்ப்³ப⁴ஸ்தி²தே: புர்வ்வம்’ ஸ்வர்கீ³யதூ³தோ யதா²ஜ்ஞாபயத் தத³நுரூபம்’ தே தந்நாமதே⁴யம்’ யீஸு²ரிதி சக்ரிரே|
When the eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
22 தத: பரம்’ மூஸாலிகி²தவ்யவஸ்தா²யா அநுஸாரேண மரியம: ஸு²சித்வகால உபஸ்தி²தே,
When the days of their purification were completed according to the law of Moses, Joseph and Mary brought Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord
23 "ப்ரத²மஜ: ஸர்வ்வ: புருஷஸந்தாந: பரமேஸ்²வரே ஸமர்ப்யதாம்’," இதி பரமேஸ்²வரஸ்ய வ்யவஸ்த²யா
(just as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”).
24 யீஸு²ம்’ பரமேஸ்²வரே ஸமர்பயிதும் ஸா²ஸ்த்ரீயவித்⁴யுக்தம்’ கபோதத்³வயம்’ பாராவதஸா²வகத்³வயம்’ வா ப³லிம்’ தா³தும்’ தே தம்’ க்³ரு’ஹீத்வா யிரூஸா²லமம் ஆயயு: |
They also went up to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord: “a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”
25 யிரூஸா²லம்புரநிவாஸீ ஸி²மியோந்நாமா தா⁴ர்ம்மிக ஏக ஆஸீத் ஸ இஸ்ராயேல: ஸாந்த்வநாமபேக்ஷ்ய தஸ்தௌ² கிஞ்ச பவித்ர ஆத்மா தஸ்மிந்நாவிர்பூ⁴த: |
And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
26 அபரம்’ ப்ரபு⁴ணா பரமேஸ்²வரேணாபி⁴ஷிக்தே த்ராதரி த்வயா ந த்³ரு’ஷ்டே த்வம்’ ந மரிஷ்யஸீதி வாக்யம்’ பவித்ரேண ஆத்மநா தஸ்ம ப்ராகத்²யத|
It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
27 அபரஞ்ச யதா³ யீஸோ²: பிதா மாதா ச தத³ர்த²ம்’ வ்யவஸ்தா²நுரூபம்’ கர்ம்ம கர்த்தும்’ தம்’ மந்தி³ரம் ஆநிந்யதுஸ்ததா³
So he came in the Spirit into the temple courts, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what was customary under the law,
28 ஸி²மியோந் ஆத்மந ஆகர்ஷணேந மந்தி³ரமாக³த்ய தம்’ க்ரோடே³ நிதா⁴ய ஈஸ்²வரஸ்ய த⁴ந்யவாத³ம்’ க்ரு’த்வா கத²யாமாஸ, யதா²,
Simeon took him in his arms and blessed God, saying,
29 ஹே ப்ரபோ⁴ தவ தா³ஸோயம்’ நிஜவாக்யாநுஸாரத: | இதா³நீந்து ஸகல்யாணோ ப⁴வதா ஸம்’விஸ்ரு’ஜ்யதாம்|
“Now, Master, yoʋ are releasing yoʋr servant in peace according to yoʋr word,
30 யத: ஸகலதே³ஸ²ஸ்ய தீ³ப்தயே தீ³ப்திரூபகம்’|
for my eyes have seen yoʋr salvation,
31 இஸ்ராயேலீயலோகஸ்ய மஹாகௌ³ரவரூபகம்’|
which yoʋ have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
32 யம்’ த்ராயகம்’ ஜநாநாந்து ஸம்முகே² த்வமஜீஜந: | ஸஏவ வித்³யதே(அ)ஸ்மாகம்’ த்⁴ரவம்’ நயநநகோ³சரே||
a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for the glory of yoʋr people Israel.”
33 ததா³நீம்’ தேநோக்தா ஏதா: ஸகலா: கதா²: ஸ்²ருத்வா தஸ்ய மாதா யூஷப்² ச விஸ்மயம்’ மேநாதே|
Joseph and the child's mother were amazed at what was being said about him.
34 தத: பரம்’ ஸி²மியோந் தேப்⁴ய ஆஸி²ஷம்’ த³த்த்வா தந்மாதரம்’ மரியமம் உவாச, பஸ்²ய இஸ்ராயேலோ வம்’ஸ²மத்⁴யே ப³ஹூநாம்’ பாதநாயோத்தா²பநாய ச ததா² விரோத⁴பாத்ரம்’ ப⁴விதும்’, ப³ஹூநாம்’ கு³ப்தமநோக³தாநாம்’ ப்ரகடீகரணாய பா³லகோயம்’ நியுக்தோஸ்தி|
Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, the child's mother, “Behold, this child is appointed to bring about the falling and rising of many in Israel and to be a sign that will be spoken against,
35 தஸ்மாத் தவாபி ப்ராணா: ஸூ²லேந வ்யத்ஸ்யந்தே|
so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce yoʋr own soul as well.”
36 அபரஞ்ச ஆஸே²ரஸ்ய வம்’ஸீ²யபி²நூயேலோ து³ஹிதா ஹந்நாக்²யா அதிஜரதீ ப⁴விஷ்யத்³வாதி³ந்யேகா யா விவாஹாத் பரம்’ ஸப்த வத்ஸராந் பத்யா ஸஹ ந்யவஸத் ததோ வித⁴வா பூ⁴த்வா சதுரஸீ²திவர்ஷவய: பர்ய்யநதம்’
There was also a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was far advanced in days. Her husband had died seven years after they were married,
37 மந்தி³ரே ஸ்தி²த்வா ப்ரார்த²நோபவாஸைர்தி³வாநிஸ²ம் ஈஸ்²வரம் அஸேவத ஸாபி ஸ்த்ரீ தஸ்மிந் ஸமயே மந்தி³ரமாக³த்ய
and she was a widow of about eighty-four years of age. She did not depart from the temple, but served night and day with fasting and prayer.
38 பரமேஸ்²வரஸ்ய த⁴ந்யவாத³ம்’ சகார, யிரூஸா²லம்புரவாஸிநோ யாவந்தோ லோகா முக்திமபேக்ஷ்ய ஸ்தி²தாஸ்தாந் யீஸோ²ர்வ்ரு’த்தாந்தம்’ ஜ்ஞாபயாமாஸ|
She came at that very hour and began giving praise to the Lord and speaking about the child to all who were waiting for redemption in Jerusalem.
39 இத்த²ம்’ பரமேஸ்²வரஸ்ய வ்யவஸ்தா²நுஸாரேண ஸர்வ்வேஷு கர்ம்மஸு க்ரு’தேஷு தௌ புநஸ்²ச கா³லீலோ நாஸரத்நாமகம்’ நிஜநக³ரம்’ ப்ரதஸ்தா²தே|
When Joseph and Mary had finished everything that was required by the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth.
40 தத்பஸ்²சாத்³ பா³லக: ஸ²ரீரேண வ்ரு’த்³தி⁴மேத்ய ஜ்ஞாநேந பரிபூர்ண ஆத்மநா ஸ²க்திமாம்’ஸ்²ச ப⁴விதுமாரேபே⁴ ததா² தஸ்மிந் ஈஸ்²வராநுக்³ரஹோ ப³பூ⁴வ|
And the child grew and became strong in spirit; he was filled with wisdom, and the favor of God was upon him.
41 தஸ்ய பிதா மாதா ச ப்ரதிவர்ஷம்’ நிஸ்தாரோத்ஸவஸமயே யிரூஸா²லமம் அக³ச்ச²தாம்|
Now Jesus' parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover.
42 அபரஞ்ச யீஸௌ² த்³வாத³ஸ²வர்ஷவயஸ்கே ஸதி தௌ பர்வ்வஸமயஸ்ய ரீத்யநுஸாரேண யிரூஸா²லமம்’ க³த்வா
When he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast.
43 பார்வ்வணம்’ ஸம்பாத்³ய புநரபி வ்யாகு⁴ய்ய யாத: கிந்து யீஸு²ர்பா³லகோ யிரூஸா²லமி திஷ்ட²தி| யூஷப்² தந்மாதா ச தத்³ அவிதி³த்வா
And when they had completed their days there and started returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. But Joseph did not know it, and neither did Jesus' mother.
44 ஸ ஸங்கி³பி⁴: ஸஹ வித்³யத ஏதச்ச பு³த்³வ்வா தி³நைகக³ம்யமார்க³ம்’ ஜக்³மது: | கிந்து ஸே²ஷே ஜ்ஞாதிப³ந்தூ⁴நாம்’ ஸமீபே ம்ரு’க³யித்வா தது³த்³தே³ஸ²மப்ராப்ய
They assumed that he was in the company of travelers, so they went a day's journey before they began looking for him among their relatives and acquaintances.
45 தௌ புநரபி யிரூஸா²லமம் பராவ்ரு’த்யாக³த்ய தம்’ ம்ரு’க³யாஞ்சக்ரது: |
When they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, looking for him.
46 அத² தி³நத்ரயாத் பரம்’ பண்டி³தாநாம்’ மத்⁴யே தேஷாம்’ கதா²: ஸ்²ரு’ண்வந் தத்த்வம்’ ப்ரு’ச்ச²ம்’ஸ்²ச மந்தி³ரே ஸமுபவிஷ்ட: ஸ தாப்⁴யாம்’ த்³ரு’ஷ்ட: |
After three days, they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.
47 ததா³ தஸ்ய பு³த்³த்⁴யா ப்ரத்யுத்தரைஸ்²ச ஸர்வ்வே ஸ்²ரோதாரோ விஸ்மயமாபத்³யந்தே|
And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.
48 தாத்³ரு’ஸ²ம்’ த்³ரு’ஷ்ட்வா தஸ்ய ஜநகோ ஜநநீ ச சமச்சக்ரது: கிஞ்ச தஸ்ய மாதா தமவத³த், ஹே புத்ர, கத²மாவாம்’ ப்ரதீத்த²ம்’ ஸமாசரஸ்த்வம்? பஸ்²ய தவ பிதாஹஞ்ச ஸோ²காகுலௌ ஸந்தௌ த்வாமந்விச்சா²வ: ஸ்ம|
When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Child, why have yoʋ treated us like this? Behold, yoʋr father and I have been looking for yoʋ in great distress.”
49 தத: ஸோவத³த் குதோ மாம் அந்வைச்ச²தம்’? பிதுர்க்³ரு’ஹே மயா ஸ்தா²தவ்யம் ஏதத் கிம்’ யுவாப்⁴யாம்’ ந ஜ்ஞாயதே?
He said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?”
50 கிந்து தௌ தஸ்யைதத்³வாக்யஸ்ய தாத்பர்ய்யம்’ போ³த்³து⁴ம்’ நாஸ²க்நுதாம்’|
But they did not understand what he said to them.
51 தத: பரம்’ ஸ தாப்⁴யாம்’ ஸஹ நாஸரதம்’ க³த்வா தயோர்வஸீ²பூ⁴தஸ்தஸ்தௌ² கிந்து ஸர்வ்வா ஏதா: கதா²ஸ்தஸ்ய மாதா மநஸி ஸ்தா²பயாமாஸ|
Then he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was obedient to them. And his mother kept all these things in her heart.
52 அத² யீஸோ² ர்பு³த்³தி⁴: ஸ²ரீரஞ்ச ததா² தஸ்மிந் ஈஸ்²வரஸ்ய மாநவாநாஞ்சாநுக்³ரஹோ வர்த்³தி⁴தும் ஆரேபே⁴|
And Jesus advanced in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and men.
