யோஹந​: 16

1 யுஷ்மாகம்’ யதா² வாதா⁴ ந ஜாயதே தத³ர்த²ம்’ யுஷ்மாந் ஏதாநி ஸர்வ்வவாக்யாநி வ்யாஹரம்’|

"These things I have spoken to you in order to clear stumbling-blocks out of your path.

2 லோகா யுஷ்மாந் ப⁴ஜநக்³ரு’ஹேப்⁴யோ தூ³ரீகரிஷ்யந்தி ததா² யஸ்மிந் ஸமயே யுஷ்மாந் ஹத்வா ஈஸ்²வரஸ்ய துஷ்டி ஜநகம்’ கர்ம்மாகுர்ம்ம இதி மம்’ஸ்யந்தே ஸ ஸமய ஆக³ச்ச²ந்தி|

You will be excluded from the synagogues; nay more, the time is coming when any one who has murdered one of you will suppose he is offering service to God.

3 தே பிதரம்’ மாஞ்ச ந ஜாநந்தி, தஸ்மாத்³ யுஷ்மாந் ப்ரதீத்³ரு’ஸ²ம் ஆசரிஷ்யந்தி|

And they will do these things because they have failed to recognize the Father and to discover who I am.

4 அதோ ஹேதா​: ஸமயே ஸமுபஸ்தி²தே யதா² மம கதா² யுஷ்மாகம்’ மந​: ஸு​: ஸமுபதிஷ்ட²தி தத³ர்த²ம்’ யுஷ்மாப்⁴யம் ஏதாம்’ கதா²ம்’ கத²யாமி யுஷ்மாபி⁴​: ஸார்த்³த⁴ம் அஹம்’ திஷ்ட²ந் ப்ரத²மம்’ தாம்’ யுஷ்மப்⁴யம்’ நாகத²யம்’|

But I have spoken these things to you in order that when the time for their accomplishment comes you may remember them, and may recollect that I told you. I did not, however, tell you all this at first, because I was still with you.

5 ஸாம்ப்ரதம்’ ஸ்வஸ்ய ப்ரேரயிது​: ஸமீபம்’ க³ச்சா²மி ததா²பி த்வம்’ க்க க³ச்ச²ஸி கதா²மேதாம்’ யுஷ்மாகம்’ கோபி மாம்’ ந ப்ரு’ச்ச²தி|

But now I an returning to Him who sent me; and not one of you asks me where I am going.

6 கிந்து மயோக்தாபி⁴ராபி⁴​: கதா²பி⁴ ர்யூஷ்மாகம் அந்த​: கரணாநி து³​: கே²ந பூர்ணாந்யப⁴வந்|

But grief has filled your hearts because I have said all this to you.

7 ததா²ப்யஹம்’ யதா²ர்த²ம்’ கத²யாமி மம க³மநம்’ யுஷ்மாகம்’ ஹிதார்த²மேவ, யதோ ஹேதோ ர்க³மநே ந க்ரு’தே ஸஹாயோ யுஷ்மாகம்’ ஸமீபம்’ நாக³மிஷ்யதி கிந்து யதி³ க³ச்சா²மி தர்ஹி யுஷ்மாகம்’ ஸமீபே தம்’ ப்ரேஷயிஷ்யாமி|

"Yet it is the truth that I am telling you--it is to your advantage that I go away. For unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.

8 தத​: ஸ ஆக³த்ய பாபபுண்யத³ண்டே³ஷு ஜக³தோ லோகாநாம்’ ப்ரபோ³த⁴ம்’ ஜநயிஷ்யதி|

And He, when He comes, will convict the world in respect of sin, of righteousness, and of judgement; --

9 தே மயி ந விஸ்²வஸந்தி தஸ்மாத்³தே⁴தோ​: பாபப்ரபோ³த⁴ம்’ ஜநயிஷ்யதி|

of sin, because they do not believe in me;

10 யுஷ்மாகம் அத்³ரு’ஸ்²ய​: ஸந்நஹம்’ பிது​: ஸமீபம்’ க³ச்சா²மி தஸ்மாத்³ புண்யே ப்ரபோ³த⁴ம்’ ஜநயிஷ்யதி|

of righteousness, because I am going to the Father, and you will no longer see me;

11 ஏதஜ்ஜக³தோ(அ)தி⁴பதி ர்த³ண்டா³ஜ்ஞாம்’ ப்ராப்நோதி தஸ்மாத்³ த³ண்டே³ ப்ரபோ³த⁴ம்’ ஜநயிஷ்யதி|

of judgement, because the Prince of this world is under sentence.

12 யுஷ்மப்⁴யம்’ கத²யிதும்’ மமாநேகா​: கதா² ஆஸதே, தா​: கதா² இதா³நீம்’ யூயம்’ ஸோடு⁴ம்’ ந ஸ²க்நுத²;

"I have much more to say to you, but you are unable at present to bear the burden of it.

13 கிந்து ஸத்யமய ஆத்மா யதா³ ஸமாக³மிஷ்யதி ததா³ ஸர்வ்வம்’ ஸத்யம்’ யுஷ்மாந் நேஷ்யதி, ஸ ஸ்வத​: கிமபி ந வதி³ஷ்யதி கிந்து யச்ச்²ரோஷ்யதி ததே³வ கத²யித்வா பா⁴விகார்ய்யம்’ யுஷ்மாந் ஜ்ஞாபயிஷ்யதி|

But when He has come--the Spirit of Truth--He will guide you into all the truth. For He will not speak as Himself originating what He says, but all that He hears He will speak, and He will make known the future to you.

14 மம மஹிமாநம்’ ப்ரகாஸ²யிஷ்யதி யதோ மதீ³யாம்’ கதா²ம்’ க்³ரு’ஹீத்வா யுஷ்மாந் போ³த⁴யிஷ்யதி|

He will glorify me, because He will take of what is mine and will make it known to you.

15 பிது ர்யத்³யத்³ ஆஸ்தே தத் ஸர்வ்வம்’ மம தஸ்மாத்³ காரணாத்³ அவாதி³ஷம்’ ஸ மதீ³யாம்’ கதா²ம்’ க்³ரு’ஹீத்வா யுஷ்மாந் போ³த⁴யிஷ்யதி|

Everything that the Father has is mine; that is why I said that the Spirit of Truth takes of what is mine and will make it known to you.

16 கியத்காலாத் பரம்’ யூயம்’ மாம்’ த்³ரஷ்டும்’ ந லப்ஸ்யத்⁴வே கிந்து கியத்காலாத் பரம்’ புந ர்த்³ரஷ்டும்’ லப்ஸ்யத்⁴வே யதோஹம்’ பிது​: ஸமீபம்’ க³ச்சா²மி|

"A little while and you see me no more, and again a little while and you shall see me."

17 தத​: ஸி²ஷ்யாணாம்’ கியந்தோ ஜநா​: பரஸ்பரம்’ வதி³தும் ஆரப⁴ந்த, கியத்காலாத் பரம்’ மாம்’ த்³ரஷ்டும்’ ந லப்ஸ்யத்⁴வே கிந்து கியத்காலாத் பரம்’ புந ர்த்³ரஷ்டும்’ லப்ஸ்யத்⁴வே யதோஹம்’ பிது​: ஸமீபம்’ க³ச்சா²மி, இதி யத்³ வாக்யம் அயம்’ வத³தி தத் கிம்’?

Some of His disciples therefore said to one another, "What does this mean which He is telling us, 'A little while and you do not see me, and again a little while and you shall see me,' and 'Because I am going to the Father'?"

18 தத​: கியத்காலாத் பரம் இதி தஸ்ய வாக்யம்’ கிம்’? தஸ்ய வாக்யஸ்யாபி⁴ப்ராயம்’ வயம்’ போ³த்³து⁴ம்’ ந ஸ²க்நுமஸ்தைரிதி

So they asked one another repeatedly, "What can that 'little while' mean which He speaks of? We do not understand His words."

19 நிக³தி³தே யீஸு²ஸ்தேஷாம்’ ப்ரஸ்²நேச்சா²ம்’ ஜ்ஞாத்வா தேப்⁴யோ(அ)கத²யத் கியத்காலாத் பரம்’ மாம்’ த்³ரஷ்டும்’ ந லப்ஸ்யத்⁴வே, கிந்து கியத்காலாத் பரம்’ பூந ர்த்³ரஷ்டும்’ லப்ஸ்யத்⁴வே, யாமிமாம்’ கதா²மகத²யம்’ தஸ்யா அபி⁴ப்ராயம்’ கிம்’ யூயம்’ பரஸ்பரம்’ ம்ரு’க³யத்⁴வே?

Jesus perceived that they wanted to ask Him, and He said, "Is this what you are questioning one another about--my saying, 'A little while and you do not see me, and again a little while and you shall see me'?

20 யுஷ்மாநஹம் அதியதா²ர்த²ம்’ வதா³மி யூயம்’ க்ரந்தி³ஷ்யத² விலபிஷ்யத² ச, கிந்து ஜக³தோ லோகா ஆநந்தி³ஷ்யந்தி; யூயம்’ ஸோ²காகுலா ப⁴விஷ்யத² கிந்து ஸோ²காத் பரம்’ ஆநந்த³யுக்தா ப⁴விஷ்யத²|

In most solemn truth I tell you that you will weep aloud and lament, but the world will be glad. You will mourn, but your grief will be turned into gladness.

21 ப்ரஸவகால உபஸ்தி²தே நாரீ யதா² ப்ரஸவவேத³நயா வ்யாகுலா ப⁴வதி கிந்து புத்ரே பூ⁴மிஷ்டே² ஸதி மநுஷ்யைகோ ஜந்மநா நரலோகே ப்ரவிஷ்ட இத்யாநந்தா³த் தஸ்யாஸ்தத்ஸர்வ்வம்’ து³​: க²ம்’ மநஸி ந திஷ்ட²தி,

A woman, when she is in labour, has sorrow, because her time has come. But when she has given birth to the babe, she no longer remembers the pain, because of her joy at a child being born into the world.

22 ததா² யூயமபி ஸாம்ப்ரதம்’ ஸோ²காகுலா ப⁴வத² கிந்து புநரபி யுஷ்மப்⁴யம்’ த³ர்ஸ²நம்’ தா³ஸ்யாமி தேந யுஷ்மாகம் அந்த​: கரணாநி ஸாநந்தா³நி ப⁴விஷ்யந்தி, யுஷ்மாகம்’ தம் ஆநந்த³ஞ்ச கோபி ஹர்த்தும்’ ந ஸ²க்ஷ்யதி|

So you also now have sorrow; but I shall see you again, and your hearts will be glad, and your gladness no one will take away from you.

23 தஸ்மிந் தி³வஸே காமபி கதா²ம்’ மாம்’ ந ப்ரக்ஷ்யத²| யுஷ்மாநஹம் அதியதா²ர்த²ம்’ வதா³மி, மம நாம்நா யத் கிஞ்சித்³ பிதரம்’ யாசிஷ்யத்⁴வே ததே³வ ஸ தா³ஸ்யதி|

You will put no questions to me then. "In most solemn truth I tell you that whatever you ask the Father for in my name He will give you.

24 பூர்வ்வே மம நாம்நா கிமபி நாயாசத்⁴வம்’, யாசத்⁴வம்’ தத​: ப்ராப்ஸ்யத² தஸ்மாத்³ யுஷ்மாகம்’ ஸம்பூர்ணாநந்தோ³ ஜநிஷ்யதே|

As yet you have not asked for anything in my name: ask, and you shall receive, that your hearts may be filled with gladness.

25 உபமாகதா²பி⁴​: ஸர்வ்வாண்யேதாநி யுஷ்மாந் ஜ்ஞாபிதவாந் கிந்து யஸ்மிந் ஸமயே உபமயா நோக்த்வா பிது​: கதா²ம்’ ஸ்பஷ்டம்’ ஜ்ஞாபயிஷ்யாமி ஸமய ஏதாத்³ரு’ஸ² ஆக³ச்ச²தி|

"All this I have spoken to you in veiled language. The time is coming when I shall no longer speak to you in veiled language, but will tell you about the Father in plain words.

26 ததா³ மம நாம்நா ப்ரார்த²யிஷ்யத்⁴வே (அ)ஹம்’ யுஷ்மந்நிமித்தம்’ பிதரம்’ விநேஷ்யே கதா²மிமாம்’ ந வதா³மி;

At that time you will make your requests in my name; and I do not promise to ask the Father on your behalf,

27 யதோ யூயம்’ மயி ப்ரேம குருத², ததா²ஹம் ஈஸ்²வரஸ்ய ஸமீபாத்³ ஆக³தவாந் இத்யபி ப்ரதீத², தஸ்மாத்³ காரணாத் காரணாத் பிதா ஸ்வயம்’ யுஷ்மாஸு ப்ரீயதே|

for the Father Himself holds you dear, because you have held me dear and have believed that I came from the Father's presence.

28 பிது​: ஸமீபாஜ்ஜஜத்³ ஆக³தோஸ்மி ஜக³த் பரித்யஜ்ய ச புநரபி பிது​: ஸமீபம்’ க³ச்சா²மி|

I came from the Father and have come into the world. Again I am leaving the world and am going to the Father."

29 ததா³ ஸி²ஷ்யா அவத³ந், ஹே ப்ரபோ⁴ ப⁴வாந் உபமயா நோக்த்வாது⁴நா ஸ்பஷ்டம்’ வத³தி|

"Ah, now you are using plain language," said His disciples, "and are uttering no figure of speech!

30 ப⁴வாந் ஸர்வ்வஜ்ஞ​: கேநசித் ப்ரு’ஷ்டோ ப⁴விதுமபி ப⁴வத​: ப்ரயோஜநம்’ நாஸ்தீத்யது⁴நாஸ்மாகம்’ ஸ்தி²ரஜ்ஞாநம்’ ஜாதம்’ தஸ்மாத்³ ப⁴வாந் ஈஸ்²வரஸ்ய ஸமீபாத்³ ஆக³தவாந் இத்யத்ர வயம்’ விஸ்²வஸிம​: |

Now we know that you have all knowledge, and do not need to be pressed with questions. Through this we believe that you came from God."

31 ததோ யீஸு²​: ப்ரத்யவாதீ³த்³ இதா³நீம்’ கிம்’ யூயம்’ விஸ்²வஸித²?

"Do you at last believe?" replied Jesus.

32 பஸ்²யத ஸர்வ்வே யூயம்’ விகீர்ணா​: ஸந்தோ மாம் ஏகாகிநம்’ பீரத்யஜ்ய ஸ்வம்’ ஸ்வம்’ ஸ்தா²நம்’ க³மிஷ்யத², ஏதாத்³ரு’ஸ²​: ஸமய ஆக³ச்ச²தி வரம்’ ப்ராயேணோபஸ்தி²தவாந்; ததா²ப்யஹம்’ நைகாகீ ப⁴வாமி யத​: பிதா மயா ஸார்த்³த⁴ம் ஆஸ்தே|

"Remember that the time is coming, nay, has already come, for you all to be dispersed each to his own home and to leave me alone. And yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.

33 யதா² மயா யுஷ்மாகம்’ ஸா²ந்தி ர்ஜாயதே தத³ர்த²ம் ஏதா​: கதா² யுஷ்மப்⁴யம் அசகத²ம்’; அஸ்மிந் ஜக³தி யுஷ்மாகம்’ க்லேஸோ² க⁴டிஷ்யதே கிந்த்வக்ஷோபா⁴ ப⁴வத யதோ மயா ஜக³ஜ்ஜிதம்’|

"I have spoken all this to you in order that in me you may have peace. In the world you have affliction. But keep up your courage: I have won the victory over the world."
