1 කරින්ථිනඃ 8
1 දේවප්‍රසාදේ සර්ව්වේෂාම් අස්මාකං ඥානමාස්තේ තද්වයං විද්මඃ| තථාපි ඥානං ගර්ව්වං ජනයති කින්තු ප්‍රේමතෝ නිෂ්ඨා ජායතේ|
Now concerning food sacrificed to idols, we know that “we all have knowledge.” Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
2 අතඃ කශ්චන යදි මන්‍යතේ මම ඥානමාස්ත ඉති තර්හි තේන යාදෘශං ඥානං චේෂ්ටිතව්‍යං තාදෘශං කිමපි ඥානමද්‍යාපි න ලබ්ධං|
If anyone thinks he knows something, he has not yet come to know anything as he ought to know it.
3 කින්තු ය ඊශ්වරේ ප්‍රීයතේ ස ඊශ්වරේණාපි ඥායතේ|
But if anyone loves God, he is known by God.
4 දේවතාබලිප්‍රසාදභක්‍ෂණේ වයමිදං විද්මෝ යත් ජගන්මධ්‍යේ කෝ(අ)පි දේවෝ න විද්‍යතේ, ඒකශ්චේශ්වරෝ ද්විතීයෝ නාස්තීති|
With regard then to eating food sacrificed to idols, we know that “an idol is nothing in the world,” and that “there is no other God but one.”
5 ස්වර්ගේ පෘථිව්‍යාං වා යද්‍යපි කේෂුචිද් ඊශ්වර ඉති නාමාරෝප්‍යතේ තාදෘශාශ්ච බහව ඊශ්වරා බහවශ්ච ප්‍රභවෝ විද්‍යන්තේ
For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”),
6 තථාප්‍යස්මාකමද්විතීය ඊශ්වරඃ ස පිතා යස්මාත් සර්ව්වේෂාං යදර්ථඤ්චාස්මාකං සෘෂ්ටි ර්ජාතා, අස්මාකඤ්චාද්විතීයඃ ප්‍රභුඃ ස යීශුඃ ඛ්‍රීෂ්ටෝ යේන සර්ව්වවස්තූනාං යේනාස්මාකමපි සෘෂ්ටිඃ කෘතා|
for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and we exist for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we exist through him.
7 අධිකන්තු ඥානං සර්ව්වේෂාං නාස්ති යතඃ කේචිදද්‍යාපි දේවතාං සම්මන්‍ය දේවප්‍රසාදමිව තද් භක්‍ෂ්‍යං භුඤ්ජතේ තේන දුර්බ්බලතයා තේෂාං ස්වාන්තානි මලීමසානි භවන්ති|
However, not everyone possesses this knowledge. But some have idols in their conscience even now and eat such food as something sacrificed to idols, and since their conscience is weak, it is defiled.
8 කින්තු භක්‍ෂ්‍යද්‍රව්‍යාද් වයම් ඊශ්වරේණ ග්‍රාහ්‍යා භවාමස්තන්නහි යතෝ භුඞ්ක්ත්වා වයමුත්කෘෂ්ටා න භවාමස්තද්වදභුඞ්ක්ත්වාප්‍යපකෘෂ්ටා න භවාමඃ|
But food does not bring us close to God. For we are no better off if we eat, and no worse off if we do not eat.
9 අතෝ යුෂ්මාකං යා ක්‍ෂමතා සා දුර්බ්බලානාම් උන්මාථස්වරූපා යන්න භවේත් තදර්ථං සාවධානා භවත|
But be careful that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.
10 යතෝ ඥානවිශිෂ්ටස්ත්වං යදි දේවාලයේ උපවිෂ්ටඃ කේනාපි දෘශ්‍යසේ තර්හි තස්‍ය දුර්බ්බලස්‍ය මනසි කිං ප්‍රසාදභක්‍ෂණ උත්සාහෝ න ජනිෂ්‍යතේ?
For if someone sees yoʋ, who have knowledge, reclining for a meal in the temple of an idol, will not his weak conscience be emboldened to eat food sacrificed to idols?
11 තථා සති යස්‍ය කෘතේ ඛ්‍රීෂ්ටෝ මමාර තව ස දුර්බ්බලෝ භ්‍රාතා තව ඥානාත් කිං න විනංක්‍ෂ්‍යති?
Should the weak brother, for whose sake Christ died, perish because of yoʋr knowledge?
12 ඉත්‍යනේන ප්‍රකාරේණ භ්‍රාතෘණාං විරුද්ධම් අපරාධ්‍යද්භිස්තේෂාං දුර්බ්බලානි මනාංසි ව්‍යාඝාතයද්භිශ්ච යුෂ්මාභිඃ ඛ්‍රීෂ්ටස්‍ය වෛපරීත්‍යේනාපරාධ්‍යතේ|
When you sin in this way against your brothers and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.
