੧ ਯੋਹਨਃ 4

1 ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਯਤਮਾਃ, ਯੂਯੰ ਸਰ੍ੱਵੇਸ਼਼੍ਵਾਤ੍ਮਸੁ ਨ ਵਿਸ਼੍ਵਸਿਤ ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਤੇ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਾਤ੍ ਜਾਤਾ ਨ ਵੇਤ੍ਯਾਤ੍ਮਨਃ ਪਰੀਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਧ੍ਵੰ ਯਤੋ ਬਹਵੋ ਮ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼਼ਾਭਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਦ੍ਵਾਦਿਨੋ ਜਗਨ੍ਮਧ੍ਯਮ੍ ਆਗਤਵਨ੍ਤਃ|

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but examine the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

2 ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰੀਯੋ ਯ ਆਤ੍ਮਾ ਸ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਭਿਰਨੇਨ ਪਰਿਚੀਯਤਾਂ, ਯੀਸ਼ੁਃ ਖ੍ਰੀਸ਼਼੍ਟੋ ਨਰਾਵਤਾਰੋ ਭੂਤ੍ਵਾਗਤ ਏਤਦ੍ ਯੇਨ ਕੇਨਚਿਦ੍ ਆਤ੍ਮਨਾ ਸ੍ਵੀਕ੍ਰਿਯਤੇ ਸ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰੀਯਃ|

By this ye know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses Jesus Christ having come in flesh is of God,

3 ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਯੀਸ਼ੁਃ ਖ੍ਰੀਸ਼਼੍ਟੋ ਨਰਾਵਤਾਰੋ ਭੂਤ੍ਵਾਗਤ ਏਤਦ੍ ਯੇਨ ਕੇਨਚਿਦ੍ ਆਤ੍ਮਨਾ ਨਾਙ੍ਗੀਕ੍ਰਿਯਤੇ ਸ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰੀਯੋ ਨਹਿ ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਖ੍ਰੀਸ਼਼੍ਟਾਰੇਰਾਤ੍ਮਾ, ਤੇਨ ਚਾਗਨ੍ਤਵ੍ਯਮਿਤਿ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਭਿਃ ਸ਼੍ਰੁਤੰ, ਸ ਚੇਦਾਨੀਮਪਿ ਜਗਤਿ ਵਰ੍ੱਤਤੇ|

and every spirit that does not confess Jesus Christ has come in flesh is not of God. And this is that of the antichrist, which ye have heard that it comes, and is now in the world already.

4 ਹੇ ਬਾਲਕਾਃ, ਯੂਯਮ੍ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਾਤ੍ ਜਾਤਾਸ੍ਤਾਨ੍ ਜਿਤਵਨ੍ਤਸ਼੍ਚ ਯਤਃ ਸੰਸਾਰਾਧਿਸ਼਼੍ਠਾਨਕਾਰਿਣੋ (ਅ)ਪਿ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਦਧਿਸ਼਼੍ਠਾਨਕਾਰੀ ਮਹਾਨ੍|

Ye are of God, little children, and ye have overcome them, because greater is he in you than he in the world.

5 ਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਾਤ੍ ਜਾਤਾਸ੍ਤਤੋ ਹੇਤੋਃ ਸੰਸਾਰਾਦ੍ ਭਾਸ਼਼ਨ੍ਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਸ਼੍ਚ ਤੇਸ਼਼ਾਂ ਵਾਕ੍ਯਾਨਿ ਗ੍ਰੁʼਹ੍ਲਾਤਿ|

They are of the world. Because of this they speak of the world, and the world hears them.

6 ਵਯਮ੍ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਾਤ੍ ਜਾਤਾਃ, ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰੰ ਯੋ ਜਾਨਾਤਿ ਸੋ(ਅ)ਸ੍ਮਦ੍ਵਾਕ੍ਯਾਨਿ ਗ੍ਰੁʼਹ੍ਲਾਤਿ ਯਸ਼੍ਚੇਸ਼੍ਵਰਾਤ੍ ਜਾਤੋ ਨਹਿ ਸੋ(ਅ)ਸ੍ਮਦ੍ਵਾਕ੍ਯਾਨਿ ਨ ਗ੍ਰੁʼਹ੍ਲਾਤਿ; ਅਨੇਨ ਵਯੰ ਸਤ੍ਯਾਤ੍ਮਾਨੰ ਭ੍ਰਾਮਕਾਤ੍ਮਾਨਞ੍ਚ ਪਰਿਚਿਨੁਮਃ|

We are of God. He who knows God hears us. He who is not of God does not hear us. From this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

7 ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਯਤਮਾਃ, ਵਯੰ ਪਰਸ੍ਪਰੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰਵਾਮ, ਯਤਃ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਾਤ੍ ਜਾਯਤੇ, ਅਪਰੰ ਯਃ ਕਸ਼੍ਚਿਤ੍ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰੋਤਿ ਸ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਾਤ੍ ਜਾਤ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰੰ ਵੇੱਤਿ ਚ|

Beloved, we should love each other. Because love is of God, and every man who loves has been begotten of God, and knows God.

8 ਯਃ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨ ਕਰੋਤਿ ਸ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰੰ ਨ ਜਾਨਾਤਿ ਯਤ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਃ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਸ੍ਵਰੂਪਃ|

He who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

9 ਅਸ੍ਮਾਸ੍ਵੀਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਯ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੈਤੇਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਯਤ੍ ਸ੍ਵਪੁਤ੍ਰੇਣਾਸ੍ਮਭ੍ਯੰ ਜੀਵਨਦਾਨਾਰ੍ਥਮ੍ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਃ ਸ੍ਵੀਯਮ੍ ਅਦ੍ਵਿਤੀਯੰ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੰ ਜਗਨ੍ਮਧ੍ਯੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਸ਼਼ਿਤਵਾਨ੍|

By this the love of God was made known in us, because God sent his Son, the only begotten, into the world so that we might live through him.

10 ਵਯੰ ਯਦ੍ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਵਨ੍ਤ ਇਤ੍ਯਤ੍ਰ ਨਹਿ ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਸ ਯਦਸ੍ਮਾਸੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਵਾਨ੍ ਅਸ੍ਮਤ੍ਪਾਪਾਨਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਯਸ਼੍ਚਿਰ੍ੱਤਾਰ੍ਥੰ ਸ੍ਵਪੁਤ੍ਰੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਸ਼਼ਿਤਵਾਂਸ਼੍ਚੇਤ੍ਯਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸਨ੍ਤਿਸ਼਼੍ਠਤੇ|

In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son, an atonement for our sins.

11 ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਯਤਮਾਃ, ਅਸ੍ਮਾਸੁ ਯਦੀਸ਼੍ਵਰੇਣੈਤਾਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼ੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕ੍ਰੁʼਤੰ ਤਰ੍ਹਿ ਪਰਸ੍ਪਰੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰ੍ੱਤੁਮ੍ ਅਸ੍ਮਾਕਮਪ੍ਯੁਚਿਤੰ|

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also are obligated to love each other.

12 ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਃ ਕਦਾਚ ਕੇਨਾਪਿ ਨ ਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼਼੍ਟਃ ਯਦ੍ਯਸ੍ਮਾਭਿਃ ਪਰਸ੍ਪਰੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕ੍ਰਿਯਤੇ ਤਰ੍ਹੀਸ਼੍ਵਰੋ (ਅ)ਸ੍ਮਨ੍ਮਧ੍ਯੇ ਤਿਸ਼਼੍ਠਤਿ ਤਸ੍ਯ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਚਾਸ੍ਮਾਸੁ ਸੇਤ੍ਸ੍ਯਤੇ|

No man has ever seen God. If we love each other, God abides in us, and his love is in us, having been fully perfected.

13 ਅਸ੍ਮਭ੍ਯੰ ਤੇਨ ਸ੍ਵਕੀਯਾਤ੍ਮਨੋਂ(ਅ)ਸ਼ੋ ਦੱਤ ਇਤ੍ਯਨੇਨ ਵਯੰ ਯਤ੍ ਤਸ੍ਮਿਨ੍ ਤਿਸ਼਼੍ਠਾਮਃ ਸ ਚ ਯਦ੍ ਅਸ੍ਮਾਸੁ ਤਿਸ਼਼੍ਠਤੀਤਿ ਜਾਨੀਮਃ|

In this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us from his Spirit.

14 ਪਿਤਾ ਜਗਤ੍ਰਾਤਾਰੰ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਸ਼਼ਿਤਵਾਨ੍ ਏਤਦ੍ ਵਯੰ ਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼਼੍ਟ੍ਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣਯਾਮਃ|

And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son, a Savior of the world.

15 ਯੀਸ਼ੁਰੀਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਯ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਏਤਦ੍ ਯੇਨਾਙ੍ਗੀਕ੍ਰਿਯਤੇ ਤਸ੍ਮਿਨ੍ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਤਿਸ਼਼੍ਠਤਿ ਸ ਚੇਸ਼੍ਵਰੇ ਤਿਸ਼਼੍ਠਤਿ|

Whoever acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

16 ਅਸ੍ਮਾਸ੍ਵੀਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਯ ਯਤ੍ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਰ੍ੱਤਤੇ ਤਦ੍ ਵਯੰ ਜ੍ਞਾਤਵਨ੍ਤਸ੍ਤਸ੍ਮਿਨ੍ ਵਿਸ਼੍ਵਾਸਿਤਵਨ੍ਤਸ਼੍ਚ| ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਃ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਸ੍ਵਰੂਪਃ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ੍ਨੀ ਯਸ੍ਤਿਸ਼਼੍ਠਤਿ ਸ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰੇ ਤਿਸ਼਼੍ਠਤਿ ਤਸ੍ਮਿੰਸ਼੍ਚੇਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਤਿਸ਼਼੍ਠਤਿ|

And we know, and have believed the love that God has in us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

17 ਸ ਯਾਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼ੋ (ਅ)ਸ੍ਤਿ ਵਯਮਪ੍ਯੇਤਸ੍ਮਿਨ੍ ਜਗਤਿ ਤਾਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼ਾ ਭਵਾਮ ਏਤਸ੍ਮਾਦ੍ ਵਿਚਾਰਦਿਨੇ (ਅ)ਸ੍ਮਾਭਿ ਰ੍ਯਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਭਾ ਲਭ੍ਯਤੇ ਸਾਸ੍ਮਤ੍ਸਮ੍ਬਨ੍ਧੀਯਸ੍ਯ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ੍ਨਃ ਸਿੱਧਿਃ|

By this love has been fully perfected with us, so that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because just as that man is, we also are in this world.

18 ਪ੍ਰੇਮ੍ਨਿ ਭੀਤਿ ਰ੍ਨ ਵਰ੍ੱਤਤੇ ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਸਿੱਧੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭੀਤਿੰ ਨਿਰਾਕਰੋਤਿ ਯਤੋ ਭੀਤਿਃ ਸਯਾਤਨਾਸ੍ਤਿ ਭੀਤੋ ਮਾਨਵਃ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ੍ਨਿ ਸਿੱਧੋ ਨ ਜਾਤਃ|

Fear is not in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear holds punishment, and he who is afraid has not been fully perfected in love.

19 ਅਸ੍ਮਾਸੁ ਸ ਪ੍ਰਥਮੰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਵਾਨ੍ ਇਤਿ ਕਾਰਣਾਦ੍ ਵਯੰ ਤਸ੍ਮਿਨ੍ ਪ੍ਰੀਯਾਮਹੇ|

We love him, because he first loved us.

20 ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰੇ (ਅ)ਹੰ ਪ੍ਰੀਯ ਇਤ੍ਯੁਕ੍ਤ੍ਵਾ ਯਃ ਕਸ਼੍ਚਿਤ੍ ਸ੍ਵਭ੍ਰਾਤਰੰ ਦ੍ਵੇਸ਼਼੍ਟਿ ਸੋ (ਅ)ਨ੍ਰੁʼਤਵਾਦੀ| ਸ ਯੰ ਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼਼੍ਟਵਾਨ੍ ਤਸ੍ਮਿਨ੍ ਸ੍ਵਭ੍ਰਾਤਰਿ ਯਦਿ ਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਯਤੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਿ ਯਮ੍ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰੰ ਨ ਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼਼੍ਟਵਾਨ੍ ਕਥੰ ਤਸ੍ਮਿਨ੍ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰ੍ੱਤੁੰ ਸ਼ਕ੍ਨੁਯਾਤ੍?

If any man says, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar. For he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?

21 ਅਤ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰੇ ਯਃ ਪ੍ਰੀਯਤੇ ਸ ਸ੍ਵੀਯਭ੍ਰਾਤਰ੍ੱਯਪਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਯਤਾਮ੍ ਇਯਮ੍ ਆਜ੍ਞਾ ਤਸ੍ਮਾਦ੍ ਅਸ੍ਮਾਭਿ ਰ੍ਲਬ੍ਧਾ|

And we have this commandment from him, so that he who loves God will also love his brother.
