1 atha prabhAte sati pradhAnayAjakAH prA ncha upAdhyAyAH sarvve mantriNashcha sabhAM kR^itvA yIshuM bandhayitva pIlAtAkhyasya deshAdhipateH savidhaM nItvA samarpayAmAsuH|
Immediately in the morning the chief priests, with the elders and Torah-Teachers, and the whole council, held a consultation, and bound Yeshua [Salvation], and carried him away, and delivered him up to Pilate [Armed with javelin].
2 tadA pIlAtastaM pR^iShTavAn tvaM kiM yihUdIyalokAnAM rAjA? tataH sa pratyuktavAn satyaM vadasi|
Pilate [Armed with javelin] asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews [Praisers]?” He answered, “So you say.”
3 aparaM pradhAnayAjakAstasya bahuShu vAkyeShu doShamAropayA nchakruH kintu sa kimapi na pratyuvAcha|
The chief priests accused him of many things.
4 tadAnIM pIlAtastaM punaH paprachCha tvaM kiM nottarayasi? pashyaite tvadviruddhaM katiShu sAdhyeShu sAkShaM dadati|
Pilate [Armed with javelin] again asked him, “Have you no answer? See how many things they testify against you!”
5 kantu yIshustadApi nottaraM dadau tataH pIlAta AshcharyyaM jagAma|
But Yeshua [Salvation] made no further answer, so that Pilate [Armed with javelin] marveled.
6 apara ncha kArAbaddhe kastiMshchit jane tanmahotsavakAle lokai ryAchite deshAdhipatistaM mochayati|
Now at the feast he used to release to them one prisoner, whom they asked of him.
7 ye cha pUrvvamupaplavamakArShurupaplave vadhamapi kR^itavantasteShAM madhye tadAnoM barabbAnAmaka eko baddha AsIt|
There was one called Bar-Abba [Son Father], bound with his fellow insurgents, men who in the insurrection had committed murder.
8 ato hetoH pUrvvAparIyAM rItikathAM kathayitvA lokA uchchairuvantaH pIlAtasya samakShaM nivedayAmAsuH|
The multitude, crying aloud, began to ask him to do as he always did for them.
9 tadA pIlAtastAnAchakhyau tarhi kiM yihUdIyAnAM rAjAnaM mochayiShyAmi? yuShmAbhiH kimiShyate?
Pilate [Armed with javelin] answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews [Praisers]?”
10 yataH pradhAnayAjakA IrShyAta eva yIshuM samArpayanniti sa viveda|
For he perceived that for envy the chief priests had delivered him up.
11 kintu yathA barabbAM mochayati tathA prArthayituM pradhAnayAjakA lokAn pravarttayAmAsuH|
But the chief priests stirred up the multitude, that he should release Bar-Abba [Son Father] to them instead.
12 atha pIlAtaH punaH pR^iShTavAn tarhi yaM yihUdIyAnAM rAjeti vadatha tasya kiM kariShyAmi yuShmAbhiH kimiShyate?
Pilate [Armed with javelin] again asked them, “What then should I do to him whom you call the King of the Jews [Praisers]?”
13 tadA te punarapi prochchaiH prochustaM krushe vedhaya|
They cried out again, “Crucify him!”
14 tasmAt pIlAtaH kathitavAn kutaH? sa kiM kukarmma kR^itavAn? kintu te punashcha ruvanto vyAjahrustaM krushe vedhaya|
Pilate [Armed with javelin] said to them, “Why, what evil has he done?” But they cried out exceedingly, “Crucify him!”
15 tadA pIlAtaH sarvvAllokAn toShayitumichChan barabbAM mochayitvA yIshuM kashAbhiH prahR^itya krushe veddhuM taM samarpayAmbabhUva|
Pilate [Armed with javelin], wishing to please the multitude, released Bar-Abba [Son Father] to them, and handed over Yeshua [Salvation], when he had flogged him, to be nailed to the execution-stake.
16 anantaraM sainyagaNo. aTTAlikAm arthAd adhipate rgR^ihaM yIshuM nItvA senAnivahaM samAhuyat|
The soldiers led him away within the court, which is the Praetorium; and they called together the whole cohort.
17 pashchAt te taM dhUmalavarNavastraM paridhApya kaNTakamukuTaM rachayitvA shirasi samAropya
They clothed him with purple, and weaving a crown of thorns, they put it on him.
18 he yihUdIyAnAM rAjan namaskAra ityuktvA taM namaskarttAmArebhire|
They began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews [Praisers]!”
19 tasyottamA Nge vetrAghAtaM chakrustadgAtre niShThIva ncha nichikShipuH, tathA tasya sammukhe jAnupAtaM praNomuH
They struck his head with a reed, and spat on him, and bowing their knees, did homage to him.
20 itthamupahasya dhUmravarNavastram uttAryya tasya vastraM taM paryyadhApayan krushe veddhuM bahirninyushcha|
When they had mocked him, they took the purple off of him, and put his own garments on him. They led him out to crucify him.
21 tataH paraM sekandarasya ruphasya cha pitA shimonnAmA kurINIyaloka ekaH kutashchid grAmAdetya pathi yAti taM te yIshoH krushaM voDhuM balAd dadhnuH|
They compelled one passing by, coming from the country, Simeon [Hearing] of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to go with them, that he might bear his execution-stake.
22 atha gulgaltA arthAt shiraHkapAlanAmakaM sthAnaM yIshumAnIya
They brought him to the place called Golgotha, which means, “The place of a skull.”
23 te gandharasamishritaM drAkShArasaM pAtuM tasmai daduH kintu sa na jagrAha|
They offered him wine mixed with myrrh to drink, but he didn’t take it.
24 tasmin krushe viddhe sati teShAmekaikashaH kiM prApsyatIti nirNayAya
Crucifying him, they parted his garments among them, casting lots on them, what each should take.
25 tasya paridheyAnAM vibhAgArthaM guTikApAtaM chakruH|
It was nine in the morning when they nailed him to the stake.
26 aparam eSha yihUdIyAnAM rAjeti likhitaM doShapatraM tasya shiraUrdvvam AropayA nchakruH|
The superscription of his accusation was written over him, “The King of the Jews [Praisers].”
27 tasya vAmadakShiNayo rdvau chaurau krushayo rvividhAte|
With him they executed on the stake two robbers; one on his right hand, and one on his left.
28 tenaiva "aparAdhijanaiH sArddhaM sa gaNito bhaviShyati," iti shAstroktaM vachanaM siddhamabhUta|
The Scripture was fulfilled, which says, “He was counted with transgressors.”
29 anantaraM mArge ye ye lokA gamanAgamane chakruste sarvva eva shirAMsyAndolya nindanto jagaduH, re mandiranAshaka re dinatrayamadhye tannirmmAyaka,
Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads, and saying, “Ha! You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days,
30 adhunAtmAnam avitvA krushAdavaroha|
save yourself, and come down from the execution-stake!”
31 ki ncha pradhAnayAjakA adhyApakAshcha tadvat tiraskR^itya parasparaM chachakShire eSha parAnAvat kintu svamavituM na shaknoti|
Likewise, also the chief priests mocking among themselves with the Torah-Teachers said, “He saved others. He can’t save himself.
32 yadIsrAyelo rAjAbhiShiktastrAtA bhavati tarhyadhunaina krushAdavarohatu vayaM tad dR^iShTvA vishvasiShyAmaH; ki ncha yau lokau tena sArddhaM krushe. avidhyetAM tAvapi taM nirbhartsayAmAsatuH|
Let the Messiah [Anointed one], the Melek Isra'el [King of God prevails], now come down from the execution-stake, that we may see and believe him.” Those who were placed on execution-stakes with him also insulted him.
33 atha dvitIyayAmAt tR^itIyayAmaM yAvat sarvvo deshaH sAndhakArobhUt|
At noon, there was darkness over the whole land until three o'clock in the afternoon.
34 tatastR^itIyaprahare yIshuruchchairavadat elI elI lAmA shivaktanI arthAd "he madIsha madIsha tvaM paryyatyAkShIH kuto hi mAM?"
At three, Yeshua [Salvation] cried with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
35 tadA samIpasthalokAnAM kechit tadvAkyaM nishamyAchakhyuH pashyaiSha eliyam AhUyati|
Some of those who stood by, when they heard it, said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah [My God Yah].”
36 tata eko jano dhAvitvAgatya spa nje. amlarasaM pUrayitvA taM naDAgre nidhAya pAtuM tasmai dattvAvadat tiShTha eliya enamavarohayitum eti na veti pashyAmi|
One ran, and filling a sponge full of vinegar, put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Let him be. Let’s see whether Elijah [My God Yah] comes to take him down.”
37 atha yIshuruchchaiH samAhUya prANAn jahau|
Yeshua [Salvation] cried out with a loud voice, and gave up the spirit.
38 tadA mandirasya javanikordvvAdadhaHryyantA vidIrNA dvikhaNDAbhUt|
The veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom.
39 ki ncha itthamuchchairAhUya prANAn tyajantaM taM dR^iShdvA tadrakShaNAya niyukto yaH senApatirAsIt sovadat naroyam Ishvaraputra iti satyam|
When the centurion, who stood by opposite him, saw that he cried out like this and breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Ben-Elohim ·Son of Elohim God·!”
40 tadAnIM magdalInI marisam kaniShThayAkUbo yoseshcha mAtAnyamariyam shAlomI cha yAH striyo
There were also women watching from afar, among whom were both Mary of Magdala [Rebellion of City tower], and Mary [Rebellion] the mother of James [Surplanter] the less and of Joses, and Salome;
41 gAlIlpradeshe yIshuM sevitvA tadanugAminyo jAtA imAstadanyAshcha yA anekA nAryo yIshunA sArddhaM yirUshAlamamAyAtAstAshcha dUrAt tAni dadR^ishuH|
who, when he was in Galilee [District, Circuit], followed him, and served him; and many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem [City of peace].
42 athAsAdanadinasyArthAd vishrAmavArAt pUrvvadinasya sAyaMkAla Agata
When evening had now come, because it was the Preparation Day (Nissan 14), that is, the day before the festival Sabbath ·To cease·,
43 IshvararAjyApekShyarimathIyayUShaphanAmA mAnyamantrI sametya pIlAtasavidhaM nirbhayo gatvA yIshordehaM yayAche|
Joseph [May he add] of Arimathaea [May he add of Lofty place], a prominent council member who also himself was looking for God’s Kingdom, came. He boldly went in to Pilate [Armed with javelin], and asked for Yeshua [Salvation]'s body.
44 kintu sa idAnIM mR^itaH pIlAta ityasambhavaM matvA shatasenApatimAhUya sa kadA mR^ita iti paprachCha|
Pilate [Armed with javelin] marveled if he were already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he had been dead long.
45 shatasemanApatimukhAt tajj nAtvA yUShaphe yIshordehaM dadau|
When he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph [May he add].
46 pashchAt sa sUkShmaM vAsaH krItvA yIshoH kAyamavarohya tena vAsasA veShTAyitvA girau khAtashmashAne sthApitavAn pAShANaM loThayitvA dvAri nidadhe|
He bought a linen cloth, and taking him down, wound him in the linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb which had been cut out of a rock. He rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.
47 kintu yatra sosthApyata tata magdalInI mariyam yosimAtR^imariyam cha dadR^ishatR^iH|
Mary of Magdala [Rebellion of City tower] and Mary [Rebellion], the mother of Joses, saw where he was laid.
