1 purA yUyam aparAdhaiH pApaishcha mR^itAH santastAnyAcharanta ihalokasya saMsArAnusAreNAkAsharAjyasyAdhipatim (aiōn )
You were made alive when you were dead in your transgressions and sins,
2 arthataH sAmpratam Aj nAla NghivaMsheShu karmmakAriNam AtmAnam anvavrajata|
in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the children of disobedience; (aiōn )
3 teShAM madhye sarvve vayamapi pUrvvaM sharIrasya manaskAmanAyA nchehAM sAdhayantaH svasharIrasyAbhilAShAn AcharAma sarvve. anya iva cha svabhAvataH krodhabhajanAnyabhavAma|
among whom we also all once lived in the lust of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.
4 kintu karuNAnidhirIshvaro yena mahApremnAsmAn dayitavAn
But God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us,
5 tasya svapremno bAhulyAd aparAdhai rmR^itAnapyasmAn khrIShTena saha jIvitavAn yato. anugrahAd yUyaM paritrANaM prAptAH|
even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
6 sa cha khrIShTena yIshunAsmAn tena sArddham utthApitavAn svarga upaveshitavAMshcha|
and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
7 itthaM sa khrIShTena yIshunAsmAn prati svahitaiShitayA bhAviyugeShu svakIyAnugrahasyAnupamaM nidhiM prakAshayitum ichChati| (aiōn )
that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus; (aiōn )
8 yUyam anugrahAd vishvAsena paritrANaM prAptAH, tachcha yuShmanmUlakaM nahi kintvIshvarasyaiva dAnaM,
for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
9 tat karmmaNAM phalam api nahi, ataH kenApi na shlAghitavyaM|
not of works, that no one would boast.
10 yato vayaM tasya kAryyaM prAg IshvareNa nirUpitAbhiH satkriyAbhiH kAlayApanAya khrIShTe yIshau tena mR^iShTAshcha|
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.
11 purA janmanA bhinnajAtIyA hastakR^itaM tvakChedaM prAptai rlokaishchAchChinnatvacha itinAmnA khyAtA ye yUyaM tai ryuShmAbhiridaM smarttavyaM
Therefore remember that once you, the non-Jews in the flesh, who are called "uncircumcision" by that which is called "circumcision," (in the flesh, made by hands);
12 yat tasmin samaye yUyaM khrIShTAd bhinnA isrAyelalokAnAM sahavAsAd dUrasthAH pratij nAsambalitaniyamAnAM bahiH sthitAH santo nirAshA nirIshvarAshcha jagatyAdhvam iti|
that you were at that time separate from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
13 kintvadhunA khrIShTe yIshAvAshrayaM prApya purA dUravarttino yUyaM khrIShTasya shoNitena nikaTavarttino. abhavata|
But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
14 yataH sa evAsmAkaM sandhiH sa dvayam ekIkR^itavAn shatrutArUpiNIM madhyavarttinIM prabhedakabhittiM bhagnavAn daNDAj nAyuktaM vidhishAstraM svasharIreNa luptavAMshcha|
For he is our peace, who made both one, and broke down the middle wall of partition,
15 yataH sa sandhiM vidhAya tau dvau svasmin ekaM nutanaM mAnavaM karttuM
having abolished in the flesh the hostility, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man of the two, making peace;
16 svakIyakrushe shatrutAM nihatya tenaivaikasmin sharIre tayo rdvayorIshvareNa sandhiM kArayituM nishchatavAn|
and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by which he put to death their enmity.
17 sa chAgatya dUravarttino yuShmAn nikaTavarttino. asmAMshcha sandhe rma NgalavArttAM j nApitavAn|
He came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.
18 yatastasmAd ubhayapakShIyA vayam ekenAtmanA pituH samIpaM gamanAya sAmarthyaM prAptavantaH|
For through him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.
19 ata idAnIM yUyam asamparkIyA videshinashcha na tiShThanataH pavitralokaiH sahavAsina Ishvarasya veshmavAsinashchAdhve|
So then you are no longer foreigners and noncitizens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God,
20 aparaM preritA bhaviShyadvAdinashcha yatra bhittimUlasvarUpAstatra yUyaM tasmin mUle nichIyadhve tatra cha svayaM yIshuH khrIShTaH pradhAnaH koNasthaprastaraH|
being built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the chief cornerstone;
21 tena kR^itsnA nirmmitiH saMgrathyamAnA prabhoH pavitraM mandiraM bhavituM varddhate|
in whom the whole building, fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord;
22 yUyamapi tatra saMgrathyamAnA Atmaneshvarasya vAsasthAnaM bhavatha|
in whom you also are built together for a habitation of God in the Spirit.
