< rōmiṇaḥ 12 >
1 hē bhrātara īśvarasya kr̥payāhaṁ yuṣmān vinayē yūyaṁ svaṁ svaṁ śarīraṁ sajīvaṁ pavitraṁ grāhyaṁ balim īśvaramuddiśya samutsr̥jata, ēṣā sēvā yuṣmākaṁ yōgyā|
Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
2 aparaṁ yūyaṁ sāṁsārikā iva mācarata, kintu svaṁ svaṁ svabhāvaṁ parāvartya nūtanācāriṇō bhavata, tata īśvarasya nidēśaḥ kīdr̥g uttamō grahaṇīyaḥ sampūrṇaścēti yuṣmābhiranubhāviṣyatē| (aiōn )
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. (aiōn )
3 kaścidapi janō yōgyatvādadhikaṁ svaṁ na manyatāṁ kintu īśvarō yasmai pratyayasya yatparimāṇam adadāt sa tadanusāratō yōgyarūpaṁ svaṁ manutām, īśvarād anugrahaṁ prāptaḥ san yuṣmākam ēkaikaṁ janam ityājñāpayāmi|
For I say, through the grace that was given me, to everyone among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, as God has apportioned to each person a measure of faith.
4 yatō yadvadasmākam ēkasmin śarīrē bahūnyaṅgāni santi kintu sarvvēṣāmaṅgānāṁ kāryyaṁ samānaṁ nahi;
For even as we have many members in one body, and all the members do not have the same function,
5 tadvadasmākaṁ bahutvē'pi sarvvē vayaṁ khrīṣṭē ēkaśarīrāḥ parasparam aṅgapratyaṅgatvēna bhavāmaḥ|
so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
6 asmād īśvarānugrahēṇa viśēṣaṁ viśēṣaṁ dānam asmāsu prāptēṣu satsu kōpi yadi bhaviṣyadvākyaṁ vadati tarhi pratyayasya parimāṇānusārataḥ sa tad vadatu;
And we have different gifts according to the grace that was given to us. If prophecy, according to the proportion of the faith;
7 yadvā yadi kaścit sēvanakārī bhavati tarhi sa tatsēvanaṁ karōtu; athavā yadi kaścid adhyāpayitā bhavati tarhi sō'dhyāpayatu;
if service, in the service; if teaching, in the teaching;
8 tathā ya upadēṣṭā bhavati sa upadiśatu yaśca dātā sa saralatayā dadātu yastvadhipatiḥ sa yatnēnādhipatitvaṁ karōtu yaśca dayāluḥ sa hr̥ṣṭamanasā dayatām|
if exhorting, in exhortation; giving, in generosity; leading, in diligence; showing mercy, in cheerfulness.
9 aparañca yuṣmākaṁ prēma kāpaṭyavarjitaṁ bhavatu yad abhadraṁ tad r̥tīyadhvaṁ yacca bhadraṁ tasmin anurajyadhvam|
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil. Cling to that which is good.
10 aparaṁ bhrātr̥tvaprēmnā parasparaṁ prīyadhvaṁ samādarād ēkō'parajanaṁ śrēṣṭhaṁ jānīdhvam|
In love of the brothers be tenderly affectionate one to another; outdo one another in showing honor;
11 tathā kāryyē nirālasyā manasi ca sōdyōgāḥ santaḥ prabhuṁ sēvadhvam|
not lagging in diligence; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
12 aparaṁ pratyāśāyām ānanditā duḥkhasamayē ca dhairyyayuktā bhavata; prārthanāyāṁ satataṁ pravarttadhvaṁ|
rejoicing in hope; enduring in troubles; continuing steadfastly in prayer;
13 pavitrāṇāṁ dīnatāṁ dūrīkurudhvam atithisēvāyām anurajyadhvam|
contributing to the needs of the saints; given to hospitality.
14 yē janā yuṣmān tāḍayanti tān āśiṣaṁ vadata śāpam adattvā daddhvamāśiṣam|
Bless those who persecute you; bless, and do not curse.
15 yē janā ānandanti taiḥ sārddham ānandata yē ca rudanti taiḥ saha rudita|
Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep.
16 aparañca yuṣmākaṁ manasāṁ parasparam ēkōbhāvō bhavatu; aparam uccapadam anākāṅkṣya nīcalōkaiḥ sahāpi mārdavam ācarata; svān jñāninō na manyadhvaṁ|
Live in harmony with one another. Do not be arrogant, but associate with the humble. Do not be conceited.
17 parasmād apakāraṁ prāpyāpi paraṁ nāpakuruta| sarvvēṣāṁ dr̥ṣṭitō yat karmmōttamaṁ tadēva kuruta|
Repay no one evil for evil. Respect what is honorable in the sight of all people.
18 yadi bhavituṁ śakyatē tarhi yathāśakti sarvvalōkaiḥ saha nirvvirōdhēna kālaṁ yāpayata|
If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all people.
19 hē priyabandhavaḥ, kasmaicid apakārasya samucitaṁ daṇḍaṁ svayaṁ na daddhvaṁ, kintvīśvarīyakrōdhāya sthānaṁ datta yatō likhitamāstē paramēśvaraḥ kathayati, dānaṁ phalasya matkarmma sūcitaṁ pradadāmyahaṁ|
Do not seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for the wrath. For it is written, "Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord."
20 itikāraṇād ripu ryadi kṣudhārttastē tarhi taṁ tvaṁ prabhōjaya| tathā yadi tr̥ṣārttaḥ syāt tarhi taṁ paripāyaya| tēna tvaṁ mastakē tasya jvaladagniṁ nidhāsyasi|
Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for by doing this you will heap coals of fire on his head."
21 kukriyayā parājitā na santa uttamakriyayā kukriyāṁ parājayata|
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
