< mathiḥ 25 >
1 yā daśa kanyāḥ pradīpān gr̥hlatyō varaṁ sākṣāt karttuṁ bahiritāḥ, tābhistadā svargīyarājyasya sādr̥śyaṁ bhaviṣyati|
“Then the kingdom of the heavens will be like ten virgins who, taking their lamps, went out to meet the bridegroom.
2 tāsāṁ kanyānāṁ madhyē pañca sudhiyaḥ pañca durdhiya āsan|
Now five of them were prudent and five foolish.
3 yā durdhiyastāḥ pradīpān saṅgē gr̥hītvā tailaṁ na jagr̥huḥ,
Those who were foolish, taking their lamps, did not take [extra] oil with them,
4 kintu sudhiyaḥ pradīpān pātrēṇa tailañca jagr̥huḥ|
but the prudent ones took oil in their vessels along with their lamps.
5 anantaraṁ varē vilambitē tāḥ sarvvā nidrāviṣṭā nidrāṁ jagmuḥ|
Now while the bridegroom delayed they all dozed and slept,
6 anantaram arddharātrē paśyata vara āgacchati, taṁ sākṣāt karttuṁ bahiryātēti janaravāt
but at midnight there was a shout: ‘Attention! The bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him.’
7 tāḥ sarvvāḥ kanyā utthāya pradīpān āsādayituṁ ārabhanta|
Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.
8 tatō durdhiyaḥ sudhiya ūcuḥ, kiñcit tailaṁ datta, pradīpā asmākaṁ nirvvāṇāḥ|
And the foolish ones said to the prudent, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’
9 kintu sudhiyaḥ pratyavadan, dattē yuṣmānasmāṁśca prati tailaṁ nyūnībhavēt, tasmād vikrētr̥ṇāṁ samīpaṁ gatvā svārthaṁ tailaṁ krīṇīta|
But the prudent ones answered saying, ‘No, in case there not be enough for you and us; instead, go to those who sell and buy for yourselves.’
10 tadā tāsu krētuṁ gatāsu vara ājagāma, tatō yāḥ sajjitā āsan, tāstēna sākaṁ vivāhīyaṁ vēśma praviviśuḥ|
But while they went to buy, the bridegroom arrived, and the ones who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast—and the door was shut!
11 anantaraṁ dvārē ruddhē aparāḥ kanyā āgatya jagaduḥ, hē prabhō, hē prabhō, asmān prati dvāraṁ mōcaya|
Later the other virgins arrived too saying, ‘Lord, lord, open for us!’
12 kintu sa uktavān, tathyaṁ vadāmi, yuṣmānahaṁ na vēdmi|
But in answer he said, ‘Assuredly I say to you, I do not know you.’
13 atō jāgrataḥ santastiṣṭhata, manujasutaḥ kasmin dinē kasmin daṇḍē vāgamiṣyati, tad yuṣmābhi rna jñāyatē|
Therefore, keep alert, because you do not know the day nor the hour in which the Son of the Man is coming.
14 aparaṁ sa ētādr̥śaḥ kasyacit puṁsastulyaḥ, yō dūradēśaṁ prati yātrākālē nijadāsān āhūya tēṣāṁ svasvasāmarthyānurūpam
“Because the kingdom is also like a man about to go on a long journey, who called his own servants and entrusted his possessions to them.
15 ēkasmin mudrāṇāṁ pañca pōṭalikāḥ anyasmiṁśca dvē pōṭalikē aparasmiṁśca pōṭalikaikām itthaṁ pratijanaṁ samarpya svayaṁ pravāsaṁ gatavān|
To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on the journey.
16 anantaraṁ yō dāsaḥ pañca pōṭalikāḥ labdhavān, sa gatvā vāṇijyaṁ vidhāya tā dviguṇīcakāra|
So the one who received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents.
17 yaśca dāsō dvē pōṭalikē alabhata, sōpi tā mudrā dviguṇīcakāra|
So also the one who received the two gained another two as well.
18 kintu yō dāsa ēkāṁ pōṭalikāṁ labdhavān, sa gatvā bhūmiṁ khanitvā tanmadhyē nijaprabhōstā mudrā gōpayāñcakāra|
But he who received the one went off and dug in the ground and hid his lord's silver.
19 tadanantaraṁ bahutithē kālē gatē tēṣāṁ dāsānāṁ prabhurāgatya tairdāsaiḥ samaṁ gaṇayāñcakāra|
“Then, after a long time, the lord of those servants comes and settles accounts with them.
20 tadānīṁ yaḥ pañca pōṭalikāḥ prāptavān sa tā dviguṇīkr̥tamudrā ānīya jagāda; hē prabhō, bhavatā mayi pañca pōṭalikāḥ samarpitāḥ, paśyatu, tā mayā dviguṇīkr̥tāḥ|
“So the one who had received the five talents approached and brought five more talents saying, ‘Lord, you entrusted five talents to me; see, I gained five more talents besides them!’
21 tadānīṁ tasya prabhustamuvāca, hē uttama viśvāsya dāsa, tvaṁ dhanyōsi, stōkēna viśvāsyō jātaḥ, tasmāt tvāṁ bahuvittādhipaṁ karōmi, tvaṁ svaprabhōḥ sukhasya bhāgī bhava|
His lord said to him: ‘Super, you good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things, I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
22 tatō yēna dvē pōṭalikē labdhē sōpyāgatya jagāda, hē prabhō, bhavatā mayi dvē pōṭalikē samarpitē, paśyatu tē mayā dviguṇīkr̥tē|
So the one who had received the two talents also approached and said, ‘Lord, you entrusted two talents to me; see, I gained two more talents besides them!’
23 tēna tasya prabhustamavōcat, hē uttama viśvāsya dāsa, tvaṁ dhanyōsi, stōkēna viśvāsyō jātaḥ, tasmāt tvāṁ bahudraviṇādhipaṁ karōmi, tvaṁ nijaprabhōḥ sukhasya bhāgī bhava|
His lord said to him: ‘Super, you good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things, I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
24 anantaraṁ ya ēkāṁ pōṭalikāṁ labdhavān, sa ētya kathitavān, hē prabhō, tvāṁ kaṭhinanaraṁ jñātavān, tvayā yatra nōptaṁ, tatraiva kr̥tyatē, yatra ca na kīrṇaṁ, tatraiva saṁgr̥hyatē|
“Then he who had received the one talent also approached and said: ‘Lord, I knew that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you did not scatter.
25 atōhaṁ saśaṅkaḥ san gatvā tava mudrā bhūmadhyē saṁgōpya sthāpitavān, paśya, tava yat tadēva gr̥hāṇa|
And being afraid I went off and hid your talent in the ground; here, take what is yours.’
26 tadā tasya prabhuḥ pratyavadat rē duṣṭālasa dāsa, yatrāhaṁ na vapāmi, tatra chinadmi, yatra ca na kirāmi, tatrēva saṁgr̥hlāmīti cēdajānāstarhi
So in answer his lord said to him: ‘You wicked and lazy servant! You knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I did not scatter.
27 vaṇikṣu mama vittārpaṇaṁ tavōcitamāsīt, yēnāhamāgatya vr̥dvyā sākaṁ mūlamudrāḥ prāpsyam|
Therefore you were obligated to deposit my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received what is mine with interest.
28 atōsmāt tāṁ pōṭalikām ādāya yasya daśa pōṭalikāḥ santi tasminnarpayata|
Therefore, take the talent away from him and give it to the one having the ten talents.
29 yēna vardvyatē tasminnaivārpiṣyatē, tasyaiva ca bāhulyaṁ bhaviṣyati, kintu yēna na vardvyatē, tasyāntikē yat kiñcana tiṣṭhati, tadapi punarnēṣyatē|
For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but the one who does not have, even what he thinks that he has will be taken away from him.
30 aparaṁ yūyaṁ tamakarmmaṇyaṁ dāsaṁ nītvā yatra sthānē krandanaṁ dantagharṣaṇañca vidyētē, tasmin bahirbhūtatamasi nikṣipata|
And throw out the useless servant, into the darkness farthest out!’ There, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
31 yadā manujasutaḥ pavitradūtān saṅginaḥ kr̥tvā nijaprabhāvēnāgatya nijatējōmayē siṁhāsanē nivēkṣyati,
“When the Son of the Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on His throne of glory.
32 tadā tatsammukhē sarvvajātīyā janā saṁmēliṣyanti| tatō mēṣapālakō yathā chāgēbhyō'vīn pr̥thak karōti tathā sōpyēkasmādanyam itthaṁ tān pr̥thaka kr̥tvāvīn
And all the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33 dakṣiṇē chāgāṁśca vāmē sthāpayiṣyati|
And the sheep He will place on His right, but the goats on His left.
34 tataḥ paraṁ rājā dakṣiṇasthitān mānavān vadiṣyati, āgacchata mattātasyānugrahabhājanāni, yuṣmatkr̥ta ā jagadārambhat yad rājyam āsāditaṁ tadadhikuruta|
Then the King will say to those on His right: ‘Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom that was prepared for you at the foundation of the world.
35 yatō bubhukṣitāya mahyaṁ bhōjyam adatta, pipāsitāya pēyamadatta, vidēśinaṁ māṁ svasthānamanayata,
For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you took me in;
36 vastrahīnaṁ māṁ vasanaṁ paryyadhāpayata, pīḍītaṁ māṁ draṣṭumāgacchata, kārāsthañca māṁ vīkṣituma āgacchata|
I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison and you came to me.’
37 tadā dhārmmikāḥ prativadiṣyanti, hē prabhō, kadā tvāṁ kṣudhitaṁ vīkṣya vayamabhōjayāma? vā pipāsitaṁ vīkṣya apāyayāma?
Then the righteous will answer Him saying: ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?
38 kadā vā tvāṁ vidēśinaṁ vilōkya svasthānamanayāma? kadā vā tvāṁ nagnaṁ vīkṣya vasanaṁ paryyadhāpayāma?
When did we see you a stranger and take you in, or naked and clothe you?
39 kadā vā tvāṁ pīḍitaṁ kārāsthañca vīkṣya tvadantikamagacchāma?
Or when did we see you sick or in prison and come to you?’
40 tadānīṁ rājā tān prativadiṣyati, yuṣmānahaṁ satyaṁ vadāmi, mamaitēṣāṁ bhrātr̥ṇāṁ madhyē kañcanaikaṁ kṣudratamaṁ prati yad akuruta, tanmāṁ pratyakuruta|
And in answer the King will say to them, ‘Assuredly I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
41 paścāt sa vāmasthitān janān vadiṣyati, rē śāpagrastāḥ sarvvē, śaitānē tasya dūtēbhyaśca yō'nantavahnirāsādita āstē, yūyaṁ madantikāt tamagniṁ gacchata| (aiōnios )
“Then He will also say to those on His left: ‘Go away from me, you accursed ones, into the eternal fire that was prepared for the devil and his angels. (aiōnios )
42 yatō kṣudhitāya mahyamāhāraṁ nādatta, pipāsitāya mahyaṁ pēyaṁ nādatta,
For I was hungry and you did not give me food; I was thirsty and you did not give me drink;
43 vidēśinaṁ māṁ svasthānaṁ nānayata, vasanahīnaṁ māṁ vasanaṁ na paryyadhāpayata, pīḍitaṁ kārāsthañca māṁ vīkṣituṁ nāgacchata|
I was a stranger and you did not take me in; I was naked and you did not clothe me; I was sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’
44 tadā tē prativadiṣyanti, hē prabhō, kadā tvāṁ kṣudhitaṁ vā pipāsitaṁ vā vidēśinaṁ vā nagnaṁ vā pīḍitaṁ vā kārāsthaṁ vīkṣya tvāṁ nāsēvāmahi?
Then they also will answer saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and did not minister to you?’
45 tadā sa tān vadiṣyati, tathyamahaṁ yuṣmān bravīmi, yuṣmābhirēṣāṁ kañcana kṣōdiṣṭhaṁ prati yannākāri, tanmāṁ pratyēva nākāri|
Then He will answer them saying, ‘Assuredly I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, neither did you do it to me.’
46 paścādamyanantaśāstiṁ kintu dhārmmikā anantāyuṣaṁ bhōktuṁ yāsyanti| (aiōnios )
And they will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” (aiōnios )
