1 aparaṁ yirūśālamnagarīyāḥ katipayā adhyāpakāḥ phirūśinaśca yīśōḥ samīpamāgatya kathayāmāsuḥ,
Then Pharisees [Separated] and Torah-Teachers came to Yeshua [Salvation] from Jerusalem [City of peace], saying,
2 tava śiṣyāḥ kimartham aprakṣālitakarai rbhakṣitvā paramparāgataṁ prācīnānāṁ vyavahāraṁ laṅvantē?
“Why do your disciples disobey ·to be contrary, to violate and overstep command, to pass over without touching anything· the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their hands when they eat bread.”
3 tatō yīśuḥ pratyuvāca, yūyaṁ paramparāgatācārēṇa kuta īśvarājñāṁ laṅvadhvē|
He answered them, “Why do you also disobey ·to be contrary, to violate and overstep command, to pass over without touching anything· the commandment of God because of your tradition?
4 īśvara ityājñāpayat, tvaṁ nijapitarau saṁmanyēthāḥ, yēna ca nijapitarau nindyētē, sa niścitaṁ mriyēta;
For God enjoins these words, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘He who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’
5 kintu yūyaṁ vadatha, yaḥ svajanakaṁ svajananīṁ vā vākyamidaṁ vadati, yuvāṁ mattō yallabhēthē, tat nyavidyata,
But you say, ‘Whoever may tell his father or his mother, “Whatever help you might otherwise have gotten from me is a gift devoted to God,”
6 sa nijapitarau puna rna saṁmaṁsyatē| itthaṁ yūyaṁ paramparāgatēna svēṣāmācārēṇēśvarīyājñāṁ lumpatha|
then he is rid of his duty to honor his father or mother.’ You have made the commandment of God void because of your tradition.
7 rē kapaṭinaḥ sarvvē yiśayiyō yuṣmānadhi bhaviṣyadvacanānyētāni samyag uktavān|
You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah [Salvation of Yah] prophesy of you, saying,
8 vadanai rmanujā ētē samāyānti madantikaṁ| tathādharai rmadīyañca mānaṁ kurvvanti tē narāḥ|
‘These people draw near to me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
9 kintu tēṣāṁ manō mattō vidūraēva tiṣṭhati| śikṣayantō vidhīn nrājñā bhajantē māṁ mudhaiva tē|
In vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrine rules made by men.’”
10 tatō yīśu rlōkān āhūya prōktavān, yūyaṁ śrutvā budhyadhbaṁ|
He summoned the multitude, and said to them, “Hear, and understand.
11 yanmukhaṁ praviśati, tat manujam amēdhyaṁ na karōti, kintu yadāsyāt nirgacchati, tadēva mānuṣamamēdhyī karōtī|
That which enters into the mouth does not defile the man; but that which proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man.”
12 tadānīṁ śiṣyā āgatya tasmai kathayāñcakruḥ, ētāṁ kathāṁ śrutvā phirūśinō vyarajyanta, tat kiṁ bhavatā jñāyatē?
Then the disciples came, and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees [Separated] were scandalized ·to entrap, to cause weak knees that waiver, stumbling block that causes falling, distrusting one that should be trusted and obeyed, disapproving of authority, to judge unfavorably causing displeasure, indignant·, when they heard this saying?”
13 sa pratyavadat, mama svargasthaḥ pitā yaṁ kañcidaṅkuraṁ nārōpayat, sa utpāvdyatē|
But he answered, “Every plant which my heavenly Father didn’t plant will be uprooted.
14 tē tiṣṭhantu, tē andhamanujānām andhamārgadarśakā ēva; yadyandhō'ndhaṁ panthānaṁ darśayati, tarhyubhau garttē patataḥ|
Leave them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. If the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit.”
15 tadā pitarastaṁ pratyavadat, dr̥ṣṭāntamimamasmān bōdhayatu|
Peter [Rock] answered him, “Explain the parable to us.”
16 yīśunā prōktaṁ, yūyamadya yāvat kimabōdhāḥ stha?
So Yeshua [Salvation] said, “Do you also still not understand?
17 kathāmimāṁ kiṁ na budhyadhbē? yadāsyaṁ prēviśati, tad udarē patan bahirniryāti,
Don’t you understand that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the belly, and then out of the body?
18 kintvāsyād yanniryāti, tad antaḥkaraṇāt niryātatvāt manujamamēdhyaṁ karōti|
But the things which proceed out of the mouth come out of the heart, and they defile the man.
19 yatō'ntaḥkaraṇāt kucintā badhaḥ pāradārikatā vēśyāgamanaṁ cairyyaṁ mithyāsākṣyam īśvaranindā caitāni sarvvāṇi niryyānti|
For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, moicheiai ·adulteries·, porhneia ·sexual immorality·, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies.
20 ētāni manuṣyamapavitrī kurvvanti kintvaprakṣālitakarēṇa bhōjanaṁ manujamamēdhyaṁ na karōti|
These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with ritually unwashed hands does not defile the man.”
21 anantaraṁ yīśustasmāt sthānāt prasthāya sōrasīdōnnagarayōḥ sīmāmupatasyau|
Yeshua [Salvation] went out from there, and withdrew into the region of Tyre and Sidon.
22 tadā tatsīmātaḥ kācit kinānīyā yōṣid āgatya tamuccairuvāca, hē prabhō dāyūdaḥ santāna, mamaikā duhitāstē sā bhūtagrastā satī mahāklēśaṁ prāpnōti mama dayasva|
Behold, a Canaanite [Descendant of Humbled] woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, you son of David [Beloved]! My daughter is severely possessed by a demon!”
23 kintu yīśustāṁ kimapi nōktavān, tataḥ śiṣyā āgatya taṁ nivēdayāmāsuḥ, ēṣā yōṣid asmākaṁ paścād uccairāhūyāgacchati, ēnāṁ visr̥jatu|
But he answered her not a word. His disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away; for she cries after us.”
24 tadā sa pratyavadat, isrāyēlgōtrasya hāritamēṣān vinā kasyāpyanyasya samīpaṁ nāhaṁ prēṣitōsmi|
But he answered, “I was not sent to just anyone but to the lost sheep of the house of Israel [God prevails].”
25 tataḥ sā nārīsamāgatya taṁ praṇamya jagāda, hē prabhō māmupakuru|
But she came and worshiped him, saying, “Lord, help me.”
26 sa uktavān, bālakānāṁ bhakṣyamādāya sāramēyēbhyō dānaṁ nōcitaṁ|
But he answered, “It is not appropriate to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”
27 tadā sā babhāṣē, hē prabhō, tat satyaṁ, tathāpi prabhō rbhañcād yaducchiṣṭaṁ patati, tat sāramēyāḥ khādanti|
But she said, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”
28 tatō yīśuḥ pratyavadat, hē yōṣit, tava viśvāsō mahān tasmāt tava manōbhilaṣitaṁ sidyyatu, tēna tasyāḥ kanyā tasminnēva daṇḍē nirāmayābhavat|
Then Yeshua [Salvation] answered her, “Woman, great is your trusting faith! Be it done to you even as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that hour.
29 anantaraṁ yīśastasmāt sthānāt prasthāya gālīlsāgarasya sannidhimāgatya dharādharamāruhya tatrōpavivēśa|
Yeshua [Salvation] departed there, and came near to the sea of Galilee [District, Circuit]; and he went up into the mountain, and sat there.
30 paścāt jananivahō bahūn khañcāndhamūkaśuṣkakaramānuṣān ādāya yīśōḥ samīpamāgatya taccaraṇāntikē sthāpayāmāsuḥ, tataḥ sā tān nirāmayān akarōt|
Great multitudes came to him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others, and they put them down at his feet. He healed them,
31 itthaṁ mūkā vākyaṁ vadanti, śuṣkakarāḥ svāsthyamāyānti, paṅgavō gacchanti, andhā vīkṣantē, iti vilōkya lōkā vismayaṁ manyamānā isrāyēla īśvaraṁ dhanyaṁ babhāṣirē|
so that the multitude wondered when they saw the mute speaking, the injured healed, the lame walking, and the blind seeing— and they glorified the God of Israel [God prevails].
32 tadānīṁ yīśuḥ svaśiṣyān āhūya gaditavān, ētajjananivahēṣu mama dayā jāyatē, ētē dinatrayaṁ mayā sākaṁ santi, ēṣāṁ bhakṣyavastu ca kañcidapi nāsti, tasmādahamētānakr̥tāhārān na visrakṣyāmi, tathātvē vartmamadhyē klāmyēṣuḥ|
Yeshua [Salvation] summoned his disciples and said, “I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days and have nothing to eat. I don’t want to send them away fasting, or they might faint on the way.”
33 tadā śiṣyā ūcuḥ, ētasmin prāntaramadhya ētāvatō martyān tarpayituṁ vayaṁ kutra pūpān prāpsyāmaḥ?
The disciples said to him, “Where should we get so many loaves in a deserted place as to satisfy so great a multitude?”
34 yīśurapr̥cchat, yuṣmākaṁ nikaṭē kati pūpā āsatē? ta ūcuḥ, saptapūpā alpāḥ kṣudramīnāśca santi|
Yeshua [Salvation] said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven, and a few small fish.”
35 tadānīṁ sa lōkanivahaṁ bhūmāvupavēṣṭum ādiśya
He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground;
36 tān saptapūpān mīnāṁśca gr̥hlan īśvarīyaguṇān anūdya bhaṁktvā śiṣyēbhyō dadau, śiṣyā lōkēbhyō daduḥ|
and he took the seven loaves and the fish. He gave thanks and broke them, and gave to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.
37 tataḥ sarvvē bhuktvā tr̥ptavantaḥ; tadavaśiṣṭabhakṣyēṇa saptaḍalakān paripūryya saṁjagr̥huḥ|
They all ate, and were filled. They took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces that were left over.
38 tē bhōktārō yōṣitō bālakāṁśca vihāya prāyēṇa catuḥsahasrāṇi puruṣā āsan|
Those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.
39 tataḥ paraṁ sa jananivahaṁ visr̥jya tarimāruhya magdalāpradēśaṁ gatavān|
Then he sent away the multitudes, got into the boat, and came into the borders of Magdala.
