< mathiḥ 10 >
1 anantaraṁ yīśu rdvādaśaśiṣyān āhūyāmēdhyabhūtān tyājayituṁ sarvvaprakārarōgān pīḍāśca śamayituṁ tēbhyaḥ sāmarthyamadāt|
And, calling near his twelve disciples, he gave them authority over impure spirits, —so as to be casting them out, and curing every disease and every infirmity.
2 tēṣāṁ dvādaśaprēṣyāṇāṁ nāmānyētāni| prathamaṁ śimōn yaṁ pitaraṁ vadanti, tataḥ paraṁ tasya sahaja āndriyaḥ, sivadiyasya putrō yākūb
Now, the twelve apostles’ names, are these: —first Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, —and James, the son of Zebedee, and John, his brother;
3 tasya sahajō yōhan; philip barthalamay thōmāḥ karasaṁgrāhī mathiḥ, ālphēyaputrō yākūb,
Philip, and Bartholomew, —Thomas, and Matthew, the tax-collector; James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thadaeus;
4 kinānīyaḥ śimōn, ya īṣkariyōtīyayihūdāḥ khrīṣṭaṁ parakarē'rpayat|
Simon, the zealot, and Judas Iscariot, who also delivered him up.
5 ētān dvādaśaśiṣyān yīśuḥ prēṣayan ityājñāpayat, yūyam anyadēśīyānāṁ padavīṁ śēmirōṇīyānāṁ kimapi nagarañca na praviśyē
These twelve, Jesus sent forth, charging them, saying: —Into any way to the nations, do not depart, —and, into any city of Samaritans, do not enter;
6 isrāyēlgōtrasya hāritā yē yē mēṣāstēṣāmēva samīpaṁ yāta|
But be going, rather, unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 gatvā gatvā svargasya rājatvaṁ savidhamabhavat, ētāṁ kathāṁ pracārayata|
And, as ye go, proclaim, saying, The kingdom of the heavens hath drawn near!
8 āmayagrastān svasthān kuruta, kuṣṭhinaḥ pariṣkuruta, mr̥talōkān jīvayata, bhūtān tyājayata, vinā mūlyaṁ yūyam alabhadhvaṁ vinaiva mūlyaṁ viśrāṇayata|
Be curing, the sick, raising, the dead, —cleansing, lepers, casting out, demons: freely, ye have, received, freely, give.
9 kintu svēṣāṁ kaṭibandhēṣu svarṇarūpyatāmrāṇāṁ kimapi na gr̥hlīta|
Ye may procure—neither gold, nor silver, nor copper, for your belts, —
10 anyacca yātrāyai cēlasampuṭaṁ vā dvitīyavasanaṁ vā pādukē vā yaṣṭiḥ, ētān mā gr̥hlīta, yataḥ kāryyakr̥t bharttuṁ yōgyō bhavati|
neither satchel for journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staff; for, worthy, is the labourer, of his maintenance.
11 aparaṁ yūyaṁ yat puraṁ yañca grāmaṁ praviśatha, tatra yō janō yōgyapātraṁ tamavagatya yānakālaṁ yāvat tatra tiṣṭhata|
And, into whatsoever city or village ye enter, search out who in it is, worthy, and, there, abide, till ye go forth.
12 yadā yūyaṁ tadgēhaṁ praviśatha, tadā tamāśiṣaṁ vadata|
And, as ye enter the house, salute it;
13 yadi sa yōgyapātraṁ bhavati, tarhi tatkalyāṇaṁ tasmai bhaviṣyati, nōcēt sāśīryuṣmabhyamēva bhaviṣyati|
And, if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it, but, if it be not worthy, let your peace, unto you, return.
14 kintu yē janā yuṣmākamātithyaṁ na vidadhati yuṣmākaṁ kathāñca na śr̥ṇvanti tēṣāṁ gēhāt purādvā prasthānakālē svapadūlīḥ pātayata|
And, whosoever shall neither welcome you, nor hear your words, as ye go forth outside that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet:
15 yuṣmānahaṁ tathyaṁ vacmi vicāradinē tatpurasya daśātaḥ sidōmamōrāpurayōrdaśā sahyatarā bhaviṣyati|
Verily, I say unto you, —More tolerable, will it be, for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for, that, city!
16 paśyata, vr̥kayūthamadhyē mēṣaḥ yathāvistathā yuṣmāna prahiṇōmi, tasmād yūyam ahiriva satarkāḥ kapōtāivāhiṁsakā bhavata|
Lo! I, send you forth as sheep amidst wolves; become ye therefore—prudent, as serpents, and simple, as doves.
17 nr̥bhyaḥ sāvadhānā bhavata; yatastai ryūyaṁ rājasaṁsadi samarpiṣyadhvē tēṣāṁ bhajanagēhē prahāriṣyadhvē|
But beware of men; for they will deliver you up into high-councils, and, in their synagogues, will they scourge you, —
18 yūyaṁ mannāmahētōḥ śāstr̥ṇāṁ rājñāñca samakṣaṁ tānanyadēśinaścādhi sākṣitvārthamānēṣyadhvē|
And, before both governor and kings, shall ye be brought, for my sake—for a witness to them and the nations.
19 kintvitthaṁ samarpitā yūyaṁ kathaṁ kimuttaraṁ vakṣyatha tatra mā cintayata, yatastadā yuṣmābhi ryad vaktavyaṁ tat taddaṇḍē yuṣmanmanaḥ su samupasthāsyati|
And, when they deliver you up, be not anxious how or what ye shall speak, —for it shall be given you in that hour what ye shall speak;
20 yasmāt tadā yō vakṣyati sa na yūyaṁ kintu yuṣmākamantarasthaḥ pitrātmā|
For it is not, ye, who are speaking, but, the Spirit of your Father, that is speaking in you.
21 sahajaḥ sahajaṁ tātaḥ sutañca mr̥tau samarpayiṣyati, apatyāgi svasvapitrō rvipakṣībhūya tau ghātayiṣyanti|
And, brother, will deliver up, brother, unto death, and, father, child, —and, children, will rise up, against parents, and will put them to death.
22 mannamahētōḥ sarvvē janā yuṣmān r̥tīyiṣyantē, kintu yaḥ śēṣaṁ yāvad dhairyyaṁ ghr̥tvā sthāsyati, sa trāyiṣyatē|
And ye will be hated by all, because of my name, —but, he that endureth throughout, the same, shall be saved.
23 tai ryadā yūyamēkapurē tāḍiṣyadhvē, tadā yūyamanyapuraṁ palāyadhvaṁ yuṣmānahaṁ tathyaṁ vacmi yāvanmanujasutō naiti tāvad isrāyēldēśīyasarvvanagarabhramaṇaṁ samāpayituṁ na śakṣyatha|
And, when they persecute you in this city, flee into another, —for, verily, I say unto you, in nowise shall ye finish the cities of Israel, till, he Son of Man, come.
24 gurōḥ śiṣyō na mahān, prabhōrdāsō na mahān|
A, disciple, is not above, the teacher, nor, a servant, above, his lord:
25 yadi śiṣyō nijagurō rdāsaśca svaprabhōḥ samānō bhavati tarhi tad yathēṣṭaṁ| cēttairgr̥hapatirbhūtarāja ucyatē, tarhi parivārāḥ kiṁ tathā na vakṣyantē?
Sufficient for the disciple, that he become, as his teacher, and, the servant, as, his lord. If, the master of the house, Beelzebul, they called, how much more, the men of his house!
26 kintu tēbhyō yūyaṁ mā bibhīta, yatō yanna prakāśiṣyatē, tādr̥k chāditaṁ kimapi nāsti, yacca na vyañciṣyatē, tādr̥g guptaṁ kimapi nāsti|
Then do not fear them, —for, nothing hath been covered, which shall not be, uncovered, and, hidden, which shall not be, made known.
27 yadahaṁ yuṣmān tamasi vacmi tad yuṣmābhirdīptau kathyatāṁ; karṇābhyāṁ yat śrūyatē tad gēhōpari pracāryyatāṁ|
What I am saying to you in the darkness, tell ye in the light, —and, what [whispered] into the ear ye are hearing, proclaim ye on the housetops.
28 yē kāyaṁ hantuṁ śaknuvanti nātmānaṁ, tēbhyō mā bhaiṣṭa; yaḥ kāyātmānau nirayē nāśayituṁ, śaknōti, tatō bibhīta| (Geenna )
And be not in fear, by reason of them that are killing the body, —and, the soul, are not able to kill. But fear, rather, him who is able, both soul and body, to destroy in gehenna! (Geenna )
29 dvau caṭakau kimēkatāmramudrayā na vikrīyētē? tathāpi yuṣmattātānumatiṁ vinā tēṣāmēkōpi bhuvi na patati|
Are not, two sparrows, for a farthing, sold? And, one from among them, shall not fall upon the ground, without your Father;
30 yuṣmacchirasāṁ sarvvakacā gaṇitāṁḥ santi|
But, even the hairs of, your, head, have all been numbered.
31 atō mā bibhīta, yūyaṁ bahucaṭakēbhyō bahumūlyāḥ|
Then be not in fear—than many sparrows, better are, ye!
32 yō manujasākṣānmāmaṅgīkurutē tamahaṁ svargasthatātasākṣādaṅgīkariṣyē|
Every one therefore who shall confess me before men, I also, will confess, him, before my Father who is in the heavens;
33 pr̥thvyāmahaṁ śāntiṁ dātumāgata̮iti mānubhavata, śāntiṁ dātuṁ na kintvasiṁ|
But, whoever shall deny me before men, I also, will deny, him, before my Father who is in the heavens.
34 pitr̥mātr̥ścaśrūbhiḥ sākaṁ sutasutābadhū rvirōdhayituñcāgatēsmi|
Do not think, that I came to thrust peace upon the earth, —I came not to thrust, peace, but, a sword;
35 tataḥ svasvaparivāraēva nr̥śatru rbhavitā|
For I came to set at variance—a man, against, his father, and, a daughter, against, her mother, and, a bride, against, her mother-in-law;
36 yaḥ pitari mātari vā mattōdhikaṁ prīyatē, sa na madarhaḥ;
And, a man foes, are, they of his own house.
37 yaśca sutē sutāyāṁ vā mattōdhikaṁ prīyatē, sēpi na madarhaḥ|
He that loveth father or mother above me, is not, worthy, of me, —and, he that loveth son or daughter above me, is not, worthy, of me;
38 yaḥ svakruśaṁ gr̥hlan matpaścānnaiti, sēpi na madarhaḥ|
And, he that doth not take his cross and follow after me, is not, worthy, of me.
39 yaḥ svaprāṇānavati, sa tān hārayiṣyatē, yastu matkr̥tē svaprāṇān hārayati, sa tānavati|
He that hath found his life, shall lose it, —and, he that hath lost his life, for my sake, shall find it.
40 yō yuṣmākamātithyaṁ vidadhāti, sa mamātithyaṁ vidadhāti, yaśca mamātithyaṁ vidadhāti, sa matprērakasyātithyaṁ vidadhāti|
He that giveth welcome unto you, unto me, giveth welcome, and, he that, unto me, giveth welcome, giveth welcome—unto him that sent me forth.
41 yō bhaviṣyadvādīti jñātvā tasyātithyaṁ vidhattē, sa bhaviṣyadvādinaḥ phalaṁ lapsyatē, yaśca dhārmmika iti viditvā tasyātithyaṁ vidhattē sa dhārmmikamānavasya phalaṁ prāpsyati|
He that giveth welcome unto a prophet, in the name of a prophet, the reward of a prophet, shall receive; and, he that giveth welcome unto a righteous man, in the name of a righteous man, the reward of a righteous man, shall receive; —
42 yaśca kaścit ētēṣāṁ kṣudranarāṇām yaṁ kañcanaikaṁ śiṣya iti viditvā kaṁsaikaṁ śītalasalilaṁ tasmai dattē, yuṣmānahaṁ tathyaṁ vadāmi, sa kēnāpi prakārēṇa phalēna na vañciṣyatē|
And, whosoever shall give to drink—unto one of these little ones—a cup of cold water only, in the name of a disciple, Verily, I say unto you, in nowise, shall lose his reward!
