1 tadanantaraṁ yīśai katipayadināni vilambya punaḥ kapharnāhūmnagaraṁ praviṣṭē sa gr̥ha āsta iti kiṁvadantyā tatkṣaṇaṁ tatsamīpaṁ bahavō lōkā āgatya samupatasthuḥ,
And when he entered again into Kepharnakhum after some days, it was heard that he was in the house.
2 tasmād gr̥hamadhyē sarvvēṣāṁ kr̥tē sthānaṁ nābhavad dvārasya caturdikṣvapi nābhavat, tatkālē sa tān prati kathāṁ pracārayāñcakrē|
And many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even around the door; and he spoke the word to them.
3 tataḥ paraṁ lōkāścaturbhi rmānavairēkaṁ pakṣāghātinaṁ vāhayitvā tatsamīpam āninyuḥ|
And four people came, carrying a paralytic to him.
4 kintu janānāṁ bahutvāt taṁ yīśōḥ sammukhamānētuṁ na śaknuvantō yasmin sthānē sa āstē taduparigr̥hapr̥ṣṭhaṁ khanitvā chidraṁ kr̥tvā tēna mārgēṇa saśayyaṁ pakṣāghātinam avarōhayāmāsuḥ|
And when they could not bring him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him. When they had broken it up, they let down the mat that the paralytic was lying on.
5 tatō yīśustēṣāṁ viśvāsaṁ dr̥ṣṭvā taṁ pakṣāghātinaṁ babhāṣē hē vatsa tava pāpānāṁ mārjanaṁ bhavatu|
And Yeshua, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven you."
6 tadā kiyantō'dhyāpakāstatrōpaviśantō manōbhi rvitarkayāñcakruḥ, ēṣa manuṣya ētādr̥śīmīśvaranindāṁ kathāṁ kutaḥ kathayati?
But there were some of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
7 īśvaraṁ vinā pāpāni mārṣṭuṁ kasya sāmarthyam āstē?
"Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone?"
8 itthaṁ tē vitarkayanti yīśustatkṣaṇaṁ manasā tad budvvā tānavadad yūyamantaḥkaraṇaiḥ kuta ētāni vitarkayatha?
And immediately Yeshua, perceiving in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, said to them, "Why do you reason these things in your hearts?
9 tadanantaraṁ yīśustatsthānāt punaḥ samudrataṭaṁ yayau; lōkanivahē tatsamīpamāgatē sa tān samupadidēśa|
Which is easier, to tell the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven;' or to say, 'Arise, and take up your bed, and walk?'
10 kintu pr̥thivyāṁ pāpāni mārṣṭuṁ manuṣyaputrasya sāmarthyamasti, ētad yuṣmān jñāpayituṁ (sa tasmai pakṣāghātinē kathayāmāsa)
But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins", he said to the paralytic,
11 uttiṣṭha tava śayyāṁ gr̥hītvā svagr̥haṁ yāhi, ahaṁ tvāmidam ājñāpayāmi|
"I tell you, arise, take up your mat, and go to your house."
12 tataḥ sa tatkṣaṇam utthāya śayyāṁ gr̥hītvā sarvvēṣāṁ sākṣāt jagāma; sarvvē vismitā ētādr̥śaṁ karmma vayam kadāpi nāpaśyāma, imāṁ kathāṁ kathayitvēśvaraṁ dhanyamabruvan|
And he arose immediately, and took up the mat, and went out in front of them all; so that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this."
13 tadanantaraṁ yīśustatsthānāt punaḥ samudrataṭaṁ yayau; lōkanivahē tatsamīpamāgatē sa tān samupadidēśa|
And he went out again by the lake. All the crowd came to him, and he taught them.
14 atha gacchan karasañcayagr̥ha upaviṣṭam ālphīyaputraṁ lēviṁ dr̥ṣṭvā tamāhūya kathitavān matpaścāt tvāmāmaccha tataḥ sa utthāya tatpaścād yayau|
And as he passed by, he saw Lewi, the son of Khalphai, sitting at the tax office, and he said to him, "Follow me." And he arose and followed him.
15 anantaraṁ yīśau tasya gr̥hē bhōktum upaviṣṭē bahavaḥ karamañcāyinaḥ pāpinaśca tēna tacchiṣyaiśca sahōpaviviśuḥ, yatō bahavastatpaścādājagmuḥ|
And it happened that he was reclining at the table in his house, and many tax collectors and sinners sat down with Yeshua and his disciples, for there were many, and they followed him.
16 tadā sa karamañcāyibhiḥ pāpibhiśca saha khādati, tad dr̥ṣṭvādhyāpakāḥ phirūśinaśca tasya śiṣyānūcuḥ karamañcāyibhiḥ pāpibhiśca sahāyaṁ kutō bhuṁktē pivati ca?
And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw him eating with the tax collectors and sinners, said to his disciples, "Why is it that he eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?"
17 tadvākyaṁ śrutvā yīśuḥ pratyuvāca, arōgilōkānāṁ cikitsakēna prayōjanaṁ nāsti, kintu rōgiṇāmēva; ahaṁ dhārmmikānāhvātuṁ nāgataḥ kintu manō vyāvarttayituṁ pāpina ēva|
And when Yeshua heard it, he said to them, "Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."
18 tataḥ paraṁ yōhanaḥ phirūśināñcōpavāsācāriśiṣyā yīśōḥ samīpam āgatya kathayāmāsuḥ, yōhanaḥ phirūśināñca śiṣyā upavasanti kintu bhavataḥ śiṣyā nōpavasanti kiṁ kāraṇamasya?
And Yukhanan's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting, and they came and asked him, "Why do the disciples of Yukhanan and those of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?"
19 tadā yīśustān babhāṣē yāvat kālaṁ sakhibhiḥ saha kanyāyā varastiṣṭhati tāvatkālaṁ tē kimupavastuṁ śaknuvanti? yāvatkālaṁ varastaiḥ saha tiṣṭhati tāvatkālaṁ ta upavastuṁ na śaknuvanti|
And Yeshua said to them, "Can the groomsmen fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
20 yasmin kālē tēbhyaḥ sakāśād varō nēṣyatē sa kāla āgacchati, tasmin kālē tē janā upavatsyanti|
But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then will they fast in that day.
21 kōpi janaḥ purātanavastrē nūtanavastraṁ na sīvyati, yatō nūtanavastrēṇa saha sēvanē kr̥tē jīrṇaṁ vastraṁ chidyatē tasmāt puna rmahat chidraṁ jāyatē|
No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, or else the patch shrinks and the new tears away from the old, and a worse hole is made.
22 kōpi janaḥ purātanakutūṣu nūtanaṁ drākṣārasaṁ na sthāpayati, yatō nūtanadrākṣārasasya tējasā tāḥ kutvō vidīryyantē tatō drākṣārasaśca patati kutvaśca naśyanti, ataēva nūtanadrākṣārasō nūtanakutūṣu sthāpanīyaḥ|
And no one puts new wine into old wineskins, or else the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost, and the skins will be destroyed; but one puts new wine into fresh wineskins."
23 tadanantaraṁ yīśu ryadā viśrāmavārē śasyakṣētrēṇa gacchati tadā tasya śiṣyā gacchantaḥ śasyamañjarīśchēttuṁ pravr̥ttāḥ|
And it happened that he was going on the Sabbath day through the grain fields, and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of grain.
24 ataḥ phirūśinō yīśavē kathayāmāsuḥ paśyatu viśrāmavāsarē yat karmma na karttavyaṁ tad imē kutaḥ kurvvanti?
And the Pharisees said to him, "Look, why do they do that which is not lawful on the Sabbath day?"
25 tadā sa tēbhyō'kathayat dāyūd tatsaṁṅginaśca bhakṣyābhāvāt kṣudhitāḥ santō yat karmma kr̥tavantastat kiṁ yuṣmābhi rna paṭhitam?
And he said to them, "Did you never read what Dawid did, when he had need, and was hungry—he, and those who were with him?
26 abiyātharnāmakē mahāyājakatāṁ kurvvati sa kathamīśvarasyāvāsaṁ praviśya yē darśanīyapūpā yājakān vinānyasya kasyāpi na bhakṣyāstānēva bubhujē saṅgilōkēbhyō'pi dadau|
How he entered into the house of God in the time of Avithar the high priest, and ate the show bread, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and gave also to those who were with him?"
27 sō'paramapi jagāda, viśrāmavārō manuṣyārthamēva nirūpitō'sti kintu manuṣyō viśrāmavārārthaṁ naiva|
And he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for people, not people for the Sabbath.
28 manuṣyaputrō viśrāmavārasyāpi prabhurāstē|
Therefore the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath."
