1 itaḥ paraṁ yīśuḥ śiṣyān uvāca, vighnairavaśyam āgantavyaṁ kintu vighnā yēna ghaṭiṣyantē tasya durgati rbhaviṣyati|
Then Jesus said to the disciples, “It is inevitable that stumbling blocks come, but woe to the one through whom they come!
2 ētēṣāṁ kṣudraprāṇinām ēkasyāpi vighnajananāt kaṇṭhabaddhapēṣaṇīkasya tasya sāgarāgādhajalē majjanaṁ bhadraṁ|
It would be better for him if a heavy millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast into the sea than for him to cause one of these little ones to stumble.
3 yūyaṁ svēṣu sāvadhānāstiṣṭhata; tava bhrātā yadi tava kiñcid aparādhyati tarhi taṁ tarjaya, tēna yadi manaḥ parivarttayati tarhi taṁ kṣamasva|
Watch yourselves. If yoʋr brother sins against yoʋ, rebuke him. If he repents, forgive him.
4 punarēkadinamadhyē yadi sa tava saptakr̥tvō'parādhyati kintu saptakr̥tva āgatya manaḥ parivartya mayāparāddham iti vadati tarhi taṁ kṣamasva|
Even if he sins against yoʋ seven times in a day, and seven times in that day he comes back and says, ‘I repent,’ yoʋ must forgive him.”
5 tadā prēritāḥ prabhum avadan asmākaṁ viśvāsaṁ varddhaya|
The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.”
6 prabhuruvāca, yadi yuṣmākaṁ sarṣapaikapramāṇō viśvāsōsti tarhi tvaṁ samūlamutpāṭitō bhūtvā samudrē rōpitō bhava kathāyām ētasyām ētaduḍumbarāya kathitāyāṁ sa yuṣmākamājñāvahō bhaviṣyati|
The Lord said, “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.
7 aparaṁ svadāsē halaṁ vāhayitvā vā paśūn cārayitvā kṣētrād āgatē sati taṁ vadati, ēhi bhōktumupaviśa, yuṣmākam ētādr̥śaḥ kōsti?
“Suppose one of you has a servant plowing the field or tending the sheep. As soon as he comes in from the field would you say, ‘Come and recline at the table’?
8 varañca pūrvvaṁ mama khādyamāsādya yāvad bhuñjē pivāmi ca tāvad baddhakaṭiḥ paricara paścāt tvamapi bhōkṣyasē pāsyasi ca kathāmīdr̥śīṁ kiṁ na vakṣyati?
Instead, would yoʋ not say to him, ‘Prepare my supper. Put on yoʋr apron and serve me while I eat and drink; after that yoʋ may eat and drink’?
9 tēna dāsēna prabhōrājñānurūpē karmmaṇi kr̥tē prabhuḥ kiṁ tasmin bādhitō jātaḥ? nētthaṁ budhyatē mayā|
Do yoʋ thank that servant because he did what he was commanded? I think not.
10 itthaṁ nirūpitēṣu sarvvakarmmasu kr̥tēṣu satmu yūyamapīdaṁ vākyaṁ vadatha, vayam anupakāriṇō dāsā asmābhiryadyatkarttavyaṁ tanmātramēva kr̥taṁ|
So you also, when you have done everything you were commanded to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what we were obligated to do.’”
11 sa yirūśālami yātrāṁ kurvvan śōmirōṇgālīlpradēśamadhyēna gacchati,
Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border of Samaria and Galilee.
12 ētarhi kutracid grāmē pravēśamātrē daśakuṣṭhinastaṁ sākṣāt kr̥tvā
As he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers who stood at a distance.
13 dūrē tiṣṭhanata uccai rvaktumārēbhirē, hē prabhō yīśō dayasvāsmān|
They lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
14 tataḥ sa tān dr̥ṣṭvā jagāda, yūyaṁ yājakānāṁ samīpē svān darśayata, tatastē gacchantō rōgāt pariṣkr̥tāḥ|
When he saw them, he said to them, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” As they went along, they were cleansed.
15 tadā tēṣāmēkaḥ svaṁ svasthaṁ dr̥ṣṭvā prōccairīśvaraṁ dhanyaṁ vadan vyāghuṭyāyātō yīśō rguṇānanuvadan taccaraṇādhōbhūmau papāta;
When one of them saw that he had been healed, he came back, glorifying God with a loud voice.
16 sa cāsīt śōmirōṇī|
He then fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. (Now he was a Samaritan.)
17 tadā yīśuravadat, daśajanāḥ kiṁ na pariṣkr̥tāḥ? tahyanyē navajanāḥ kutra?
In response Jesus said, “Were not ten cleansed? Where then are the other nine?
18 īśvaraṁ dhanyaṁ vadantam ēnaṁ vidēśinaṁ vinā kōpyanyō na prāpyata|
Were there none found who came back to give glory to God except this foreigner?”
19 tadā sa tamuvāca, tvamutthāya yāhi viśvāsastē tvāṁ svasthaṁ kr̥tavān|
Then he said to the man, “Rise and go on yoʋr way; yoʋr faith has healed yoʋ.”
20 atha kadēśvarasya rājatvaṁ bhaviṣyatīti phirūśibhiḥ pr̥ṣṭē sa pratyuvāca, īśvarasya rājatvam aiśvaryyadarśanēna na bhaviṣyati|
At one point Jesus was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God was coming, so he answered them, “The kingdom of God does not come with observable signs,
21 ata ētasmin paśya tasmin vā paśya, iti vākyaṁ lōkā vaktuṁ na śakṣyanti, īśvarasya rājatvaṁ yuṣmākam antarēvāstē|
nor will people say, ‘Behold, here it is!’ or, ‘Behold, there it is!’ For behold, the kingdom of God is within you.”
22 tataḥ sa śiṣyān jagāda, yadā yuṣmābhi rmanujasutasya dinamēkaṁ draṣṭum vāñchiṣyatē kintu na darśiṣyatē, īdr̥kkāla āyāti|
Then he said to the disciples, “The days will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it.
23 tadātra paśya vā tatra paśyēti vākyaṁ lōkā vakṣyanti, kintu tēṣāṁ paścāt mā yāta, mānugacchata ca|
People will say to you, ‘Behold, here he is!’ or, ‘Behold, there he is!’ Do not go off with them or run after them,
24 yatastaḍid yathākāśaikadiśyudiya tadanyāmapi diśaṁ vyāpya prakāśatē tadvat nijadinē manujasūnuḥ prakāśiṣyatē|
for just as lightning flashes from one part of the sky and shines to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day.
25 kintu tatpūrvvaṁ tēnānēkāni duḥkhāni bhōktavyānyētadvarttamānalōkaiśca sō'vajñātavyaḥ|
But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.
26 nōhasya vidyamānakālē yathābhavat manuṣyasūnōḥ kālēpi tathā bhaviṣyati|
Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man.
27 yāvatkālaṁ nōhō mahāpōtaṁ nārōhad āplāvivāryyētya sarvvaṁ nānāśayacca tāvatkālaṁ yathā lōkā abhuñjatāpivan vyavahan vyavāhayaṁśca;
People were eating and drinking, marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah went into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
28 itthaṁ lōṭō varttamānakālēpi yathā lōkā bhōjanapānakrayavikrayarōpaṇagr̥hanirmmāṇakarmmasu prāvarttanta,
It will be the same as it was in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building.
29 kintu yadā lōṭ sidōmō nirjagāma tadā nabhasaḥ sagandhakāgnivr̥ṣṭi rbhūtvā sarvvaṁ vyanāśayat
But on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.
30 tadvan mānavaputraprakāśadinēpi bhaviṣyati|
So will it be on the day when the Son of Man is revealed.
31 tadā yadi kaścid gr̥hōpari tiṣṭhati tarhi sa gr̥hamadhyāt kimapi dravyamānētum avaruhya naitu; yaśca kṣētrē tiṣṭhati sōpi vyāghuṭya nāyātu|
On that day, he who is on the housetop and whose goods are in the house must not come down to get them. Likewise, he who is in the field must not turn back.
32 lōṭaḥ patnīṁ smarata|
Remember Lot's wife.
33 yaḥ prāṇān rakṣituṁ cēṣṭiṣyatē sa prāṇān hārayiṣyati yastu prāṇān hārayiṣyati saēva prāṇān rakṣiṣyati|
Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will preserve it.
34 yuṣmānahaṁ vacmi tasyāṁ rātrau śayyaikagatayō rlōkayōrēkō dhāriṣyatē parastyakṣyatē|
I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other will be left.
35 striyau yugapat pēṣaṇīṁ vyāvarttayiṣyatastayōrēkā dhāriṣyatē parātyakṣyatē|
Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other will be left.”
36 puruṣau kṣētrē sthāsyatastayōrēkō dhāriṣyatē parastyakṣyatē|
37 tadā tē papracchuḥ, hē prabhō kutrētthaṁ bhaviṣyati? tataḥ sa uvāca, yatra śavastiṣṭhati tatra gr̥dhrā milanti|
Then the disciples said to him in response, “Where, Lord?” He said to them, “Where the body is, there the vultures will be gathered together.”
