< 2 karinthinaḥ 5 >
1 aparam asmākam ētasmin pārthivē dūṣyarūpē vēśmani jīrṇē satīśvarēṇa nirmmitam akarakr̥tam asmākam anantakālasthāyi vēśmaikaṁ svargē vidyata iti vayaṁ jānīmaḥ| (aiōnios )
For we know that—if, our earthly tent-dwelling, should be taken down, we have, a building of God, a dwelling not made by hand, age-abiding in the heavens. (aiōnios )
2 yatō hētōrētasmin vēśmani tiṣṭhantō vayaṁ taṁ svargīyaṁ vāsaṁ paridhātum ākāṅkṣyamāṇā niḥśvasāmaḥ|
And verily, in this, we sigh, earnestly desiring to clothe ourselves over, with our habitation which is of heaven, —
3 tathāpīdānīmapi vayaṁ tēna na nagnāḥ kintu parihitavasanā manyāmahē|
Although, indeed, even clothing ourselves, we shall not be found, naked; —
4 ētasmin dūṣyē tiṣṭhanatō vayaṁ kliśyamānā niḥśvasāmaḥ, yatō vayaṁ vāsaṁ tyaktum icchāmastannahi kintu taṁ dvitīyaṁ vāsaṁ paridhātum icchāmaḥ, yatastathā kr̥tē jīvanēna martyaṁ grasiṣyatē|
And verily, we who are in the tent, do sigh, being weighed down, while yet we are not wishing to unclothe ourselves, but to clothe ourselves over, —in order that, what is mortal, may be swallowed up, by life.
5 ētadarthaṁ vayaṁ yēna sr̥ṣṭāḥ sa īśvara ēva sa cāsmabhyaṁ satyaṅkārasya paṇasvarūpam ātmānaṁ dattavān|
Now, he that hath wrought us for this very thing, is, God, —who hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit,
6 ataēva vayaṁ sarvvadōtsukā bhavāmaḥ kiñca śarīrē yāvad asmābhi rnyuṣyatē tāvat prabhutō dūrē prōṣyata iti jānīmaḥ,
Having good courage, therefore, at all times, and knowing that—remaining at home in the body, we are away from home from the Lord, —
7 yatō vayaṁ dr̥ṣṭimārgē na carāmaḥ kintu viśvāsamārgē|
By faith, are we walking, not by sight; —
8 aparañca śarīrād dūrē pravastuṁ prabhōḥ sannidhau nivastuñcākāṅkṣyamāṇā utsukā bhavāmaḥ|
We have good courage, however, and are well pleased—rather to be away from home, out of the body, and to come home, unto the Lord.
9 tasmādēva kāraṇād vayaṁ tasya sannidhau nivasantastasmād dūrē pravasantō vā tasmai rōcituṁ yatāmahē|
Wherefore also we are ambitious—whether at home, or away from home, to be, well-pleasing unto him.
10 yasmāt śarīrāvasthāyām ēkaikēna kr̥tānāṁ karmmaṇāṁ śubhāśubhaphalaprāptayē sarvvaismābhiḥ khrīṣṭasya vicārāsanasammukha upasthātavyaṁ|
For, we all, must needs be made manifest before the judgment seat of the Christ, that each one may get back the things done by means of the body, according to the things which he practised, whether good or corrupt.
11 ataēva prabhō rbhayānakatvaṁ vijñāya vayaṁ manujān anunayāmaḥ kiñcēśvarasya gōcarē saprakāśā bhavāmaḥ, yuṣmākaṁ saṁvēdagōcarē'pi saprakāśā bhavāma ityāśaṁsāmahē|
Knowing, then, the fear of the Lord, we persuade, men, but, unto God, are manifest, —I hope, moreover, even in your consciences, that we are manifest:
12 anēna vayaṁ yuṣmākaṁ sannidhau punaḥ svān praśaṁsāma iti nahi kintu yē manō vinā mukhaiḥ ślāghantē tēbhyaḥ pratyuttaradānāya yūyaṁ yathāsmābhiḥ ślāghituṁ śaknutha tādr̥śam upāyaṁ yuṣmabhyaṁ vitarāmaḥ|
Not again, ourselves, do we commend unto you, but as though an occasion we were giving unto you—something to boast of, in our behalf; that ye may have something suited unto them who, in appearance, are boasting, and not in heart.
13 yadi vayaṁ hatajñānā bhavāmastarhi tad īśvarārthakaṁ yadi ca sajñānā bhavāmastarhi tad yuṣmadarthakaṁ|
For, whether we have been beside ourselves, it hath been for God, or, whether we are sober-minded, it is for you.
14 vayaṁ khrīṣṭasya prēmnā samākr̥ṣyāmahē yataḥ sarvvēṣāṁ vinimayēna yadyēkō janō'mriyata tarhi tē sarvvē mr̥tā ityāsmābhi rbudhyatē|
For, the love of the Christ, constraineth us; —
15 aparañca yē jīvanti tē yat svārthaṁ na jīvanti kintu tēṣāṁ kr̥tē yō janō mr̥taḥ punarutthāpitaśca tamuddiśya yat jīvanti tadarthamēva sa sarvvēṣāṁ kr̥tē mr̥tavān|
Having judged this, —that, one, in behalf of all, died, hence, they all, died; and, in behalf of all, died he, —in order that, they who live, no longer for themselves, should live, but for him who, in their behalf, died and rose again.
16 atō hētōritaḥ paraṁ kō'pyasmābhi rjātitō na pratijñātavyaḥ|yadyapi pūrvvaṁ khrīṣṭō jātitō'smābhiḥ pratijñātastathāpīdānīṁ jātitaḥ puna rna pratijñāyatē|
So that, we, henceforth, know, no one, after the flesh: if we have even been gaining, after the flesh, a knowledge of Christ,
17 kēnacit khrīṣṭa āśritē nūtanā sr̥ṣṭi rbhavati purātanāni lupyantē paśya nikhilāni navīnāni bhavanti|
On the contrary, now, no longer, are we gaining it. So that, if any one is in Christ, there is a new creation! the old things, have passed away, —Lo! they have become new!
18 sarvvañcaitad īśvarasya karmma yatō yīśukhrīṣṭēna sa ēvāsmān svēna sārddhaṁ saṁhitavān sandhānasambandhīyāṁ paricaryyām asmāsu samarpitavāṁśca|
The all things, moreover, are of God, —who hath reconciled us unto himself, through Christ, and hath given, unto us, the reconciling ministry: —
19 yataḥ īśvaraḥ khrīṣṭam adhiṣṭhāya jagatō janānām āgāṁsi tēṣām r̥ṇamiva na gaṇayan svēna sārddhaṁ tān saṁhitavān sandhivārttām asmāsu samarpitavāṁśca|
How that, God, was in Christ, reconciling, a world, unto himself, not reckoning, unto them, their offences, —and hath put, in us, the reconciling discourse.
20 atō vayaṁ khrīṣṭasya vinimayēna dautyaṁ karmma sampādayāmahē, īśvaraścāsmābhi ryuṣmān yāyācyatē tataḥ khrīṣṭasya vinimayēna vayaṁ yuṣmān prārthayāmahē yūyamīśvarēṇa sandhatta|
In behalf of Christ, therefore, are we ambassadors, —as if God were beseeching through us: we entreat, in behalf of Christ, —be reconciled unto God!
21 yatō vayaṁ tēna yad īśvarīyapuṇyaṁ bhavāmastadarthaṁ pāpēna saha yasya jñātēyaṁ nāsīt sa ēva tēnāsmākaṁ vinimayēna pāpaḥ kr̥taḥ|
Him who knew not sin, in our behalf, he made to be, sin, that we might become God’s righteousness in him.
