< 2 karinthinaḥ 3 >
1 vayaṁ kim ātmapraśaṁsanaṁ punarārabhāmahē? yuṣmān prati yuṣmattō vā parēṣāṁ kēṣāñcid ivāsmākamapi kiṁ praśaṁsāpatrēṣu prayōjanam āstē?
Are we beginning again to commend ourselves? We do not need, as do some, letters of commendation to you or from you, do we?
2 yūyamēvāsmākaṁ praśaṁsāpatraṁ taccāsmākam antaḥkaraṇēṣu likhitaṁ sarvvamānavaiśca jñēyaṁ paṭhanīyañca|
You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by everyone;
3 yatō 'smābhiḥ sēvitaṁ khrīṣṭasya patraṁ yūyapēva, tacca na masyā kintvamarasyēśvarasyātmanā likhitaṁ pāṣāṇapatrēṣu tannahi kintu kravyamayēṣu hr̥tpatrēṣu likhitamiti suspaṣṭaṁ|
being revealed that you are a letter of Meshikha, served by us, written not with ink, but with the Rukha of the living God; not in tablets of stone, but in tablets that are hearts of flesh.
4 khrīṣṭēnēśvaraṁ pratyasmākam īdr̥śō dr̥ḍhaviśvāsō vidyatē;
Such confidence we have through Meshikha toward God;
5 vayaṁ nijaguṇēna kimapi kalpayituṁ samarthā iti nahi kintvīśvarādasmākaṁ sāmarthyaṁ jāyatē|
not that we are sufficient of ourselves, to account anything as from ourselves; but our sufficiency is from God;
6 tēna vayaṁ nūtananiyamasyārthatō 'kṣarasaṁsthānasya tannahi kintvātmana ēva sēvanasāmarthyaṁ prāptāḥ| akṣarasaṁsthānaṁ mr̥tyujanakaṁ kintvātmā jīvanadāyakaḥ|
who also made us sufficient as servants of a new covenant; not of the letter, but of the Rukha. For the letter kills, but the Rukha gives life.
7 akṣarai rvilikhitapāṣāṇarūpiṇī yā mr̥tyōḥ sēvā sā yadīdr̥k tējasvinī jātā yattasyācirasthāyinastējasaḥ kāraṇāt mūsasō mukham isrāyēlīyalōkaiḥ saṁdraṣṭuṁ nāśakyata,
But if the service of death, written engraved on stones, came with glory, so that the people of Israyel could not look steadfastly on the face of Mushe for the glory of his face; which was passing away:
8 tarhyātmanaḥ sēvā kiṁ tatō'pi bahutējasvinī na bhavēt?
won't service of the Rukha be with much more glory?
9 daṇḍajanikā sēvā yadi tējōyuktā bhavēt tarhi puṇyajanikā sēvā tatō'dhikaṁ bahutējōyuktā bhaviṣyati|
For if the service of condemnation has glory, the service of righteousness exceeds much more in glory.
10 ubhayōstulanāyāṁ kr̥tāyām ēkasyāstējō dvitīyāyāḥ prakharatarēṇa tējasā hīnatējō bhavati|
For truly that which has been made glorious has not been made glorious in this respect, by reason of the glory that surpasses.
11 yasmād yat lōpanīyaṁ tad yadi tējōyuktaṁ bhavēt tarhi yat cirasthāyi tad bahutaratējōyuktamēva bhaviṣyati|
For if that which passes away was with glory, much more that which remains is in glory.
12 īdr̥śīṁ pratyāśāṁ labdhvā vayaṁ mahatīṁ pragalbhatāṁ prakāśayāmaḥ|
Having therefore such a hope, we use great boldness of speech,
13 isrāyēlīyalōkā yat tasya lōpanīyasya tējasaḥ śēṣaṁ na vilōkayēyustadarthaṁ mūsā yādr̥g āvaraṇēna svamukham ācchādayat vayaṁ tādr̥k na kurmmaḥ|
and not as Mushe, who put a veil on his face, that the people of Israyel would not look steadfastly on the end of that which was passing away.
14 tēṣāṁ manāṁsi kaṭhinībhūtāni yatastēṣāṁ paṭhanasamayē sa purātanō niyamastēnāvaraṇēnādyāpi pracchannastiṣṭhati|
But their minds were hardened, for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains, because in Meshikha it passes away.
15 tacca na dūrībhavati yataḥ khrīṣṭēnaiva tat lupyatē| mūsasaḥ śāstrasya pāṭhasamayē'dyāpi tēṣāṁ manāṁsi tēnāvaraṇēna pracchādyantē|
But to this day, when Mushe is read, a veil lies on their heart.
16 kintu prabhuṁ prati manasi parāvr̥ttē tad āvaraṇaṁ dūrīkāriṣyatē|
But whenever one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
17 yaḥ prabhuḥ sa ēva sa ātmā yatra ca prabhōrātmā tatraiva muktiḥ|
Now the Lord is the Rukha and where the Rukha of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18 vayañca sarvvē'nācchāditēnāsyēna prabhōstējasaḥ pratibimbaṁ gr̥hlanta ātmasvarūpēṇa prabhunā rūpāntarīkr̥tā varddhamānatējōyuktāṁ tāmēva pratimūrttiṁ prāpnumaḥ|
But we all, with unveiled face looking as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Rukha.
