1 mama prathama ādēśō'yaṁ, prārthanāvinayanivēdanadhanyavādāḥ karttavyāḥ,
I urge then, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,
2 sarvvēṣāṁ mānavānāṁ kr̥tē viśēṣatō vayaṁ yat śāntatvēna nirvvirōdhatvēna cēścarabhaktiṁ vinītatvañcācarantaḥ kālaṁ yāpayāmastadarthaṁ nr̥patīnām uccapadasthānāñca kr̥tē tē karttavyāḥ|
for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead quiet and peaceful lives in all godliness and dignity.
3 yatō'smākaṁ tārakasyēśvarasya sākṣāt tadēvōttamaṁ grāhyañca bhavati,
For this is good and acceptable before God our Savior,
4 sa sarvvēṣāṁ mānavānāṁ paritrāṇaṁ satyajñānaprāptiñcēcchati|
who wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
5 yata ēkō'dvitīya īśvarō vidyatē kiñcēśvarē mānavēṣu caikō 'dvitīyō madhyasthaḥ
For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
6 sa narāvatāraḥ khrīṣṭō yīśu rvidyatē yaḥ sarvvēṣāṁ muktē rmūlyam ātmadānaṁ kr̥tavān| ētēna yēna pramāṇēnōpayuktē samayē prakāśitavyaṁ,
who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
7 tadghōṣayitā dūtō viśvāsē satyadharmmē ca bhinnajātīyānām upadēśakaścāhaṁ nyayūjyē, ētadahaṁ khrīṣṭasya nāmnā yathātathyaṁ vadāmi nānr̥taṁ kathayāmi|
For this testimony I was appointed to be a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. (I am speaking the truth in Christ; I am not lying.)
8 atō mamābhimatamidaṁ puruṣaiḥ krōdhasandēhau vinā pavitrakarān uttōlya sarvvasmin sthānē prārthanā kriyatāṁ|
Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument.
9 tadvat nāryyō'pi salajjāḥ saṁyatamanasaśca satyō yōgyamācchādanaṁ paridadhatu kiñca kēśasaṁskāraiḥ kaṇakamuktābhi rmahārghyaparicchadaiścātmabhūṣaṇaṁ na kurvvatyaḥ
Likewise, I want the women to adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and discretion, not with elaborately braided hair, gold, pearls, or expensive clothing,
10 svīkr̥tēśvarabhaktīnāṁ yōṣitāṁ yōgyaiḥ satyarmmabhiḥ svabhūṣaṇaṁ kurvvatāṁ|
but with good works, which is proper for women who profess godly reverence.
11 nārī sampūrṇavinītatvēna nirvirōdhaṁ śikṣatāṁ|
A woman should learn quietly with full submission.
12 nāryyāḥ śikṣādānaṁ puruṣāyājñādānaṁ vāhaṁ nānujānāmi tayā nirvvirōdhatvam ācaritavyaṁ|
I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.
13 yataḥ prathamam ādamastataḥ paraṁ havāyāḥ sr̥ṣṭi rbabhūva|
For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
14 kiñcādam bhrāntiyuktō nābhavat yōṣidēva bhrāntiyuktā bhūtvātyācāriṇī babhūva|
And Adam was not the one who was deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and fell into transgression.
15 tathāpi nārīgaṇō yadi viśvāsē prēmni pavitratāyāṁ saṁyatamanasi ca tiṣṭhati tarhyapatyaprasavavartmanā paritrāṇaṁ prāpsyati|
Nevertheless, women will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.
