1 vayaM kim AtmaprazaMsanaM punarArabhAmahe? yuSmAn prati yuSmatto vA pareSAM keSAJcid ivAsmAkamapi kiM prazaMsApatreSu prayojanam Aste?
Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?
2 yUyamevAsmAkaM prazaMsApatraM taccAsmAkam antaHkaraNeSu likhitaM sarvvamAnavaizca jJeyaM paThanIyaJca|
All of you are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:

Forasmuch as all of you are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit (pneuma) of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
4 khrISTenezvaraM pratyasmAkam IdRzo dRDhavizvAso vidyate;
And such trust have we through Christ toward God:
5 vayaM nijaguNena kimapi kalpayituM samarthA iti nahi kintvIzvarAdasmAkaM sAmarthyaM jAyate|
Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;

Who also has made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: (pneuma) for the letter kills, but the spirit (pneuma) gives life.

But if the ministration of death, written and engraved in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
8 tarhyAtmanaH sevA kiM tato'pi bahutejasvinI na bhavet?
How shall not the ministration of the spirit (pneuma) be rather glorious?
9 daNDajanikA sevA yadi tejoyuktA bhavet tarhi puNyajanikA sevA tato'dhikaM bahutejoyuktA bhaviSyati|
For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more does the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
10 ubhayostulanAyAM kRtAyAm ekasyAstejo dvitIyAyAH prakharatareNa tejasA hInatejo bhavati|
For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excels.
11 yasmAd yat lopanIyaM tad yadi tejoyuktaM bhavet tarhi yat cirasthAyi tad bahutaratejoyuktameva bhaviSyati|
For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remains is glorious.
12 IdRzIM pratyAzAM labdhvA vayaM mahatIM pragalbhatAM prakAzayAmaH|
Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
13 isrAyelIyalokA yat tasya lopanIyasya tejasaH zeSaM na vilokayeyustadarthaM mUsA yAdRg AvaraNena svamukham AcchAdayat vayaM tAdRk na kurmmaH|
And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not steadfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
14 teSAM manAMsi kaThinIbhUtAni yatasteSAM paThanasamaye sa purAtano niyamastenAvaraNenAdyApi pracchannastiSThati|
But their minds were blinded: for until this day remains the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
15 tacca na dUrIbhavati yataH khrISTenaiva tat lupyate| mUsasaH zAstrasya pAThasamaye'dyApi teSAM manAMsi tenAvaraNena pracchAdyante|
But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
16 kintu prabhuM prati manasi parAvRtte tad AvaraNaM dUrIkAriSyate|
Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
17 yaH prabhuH sa eva sa AtmA yatra ca prabhorAtmA tatraiva muktiH|
Now the Lord is that Spirit: (pneuma) and where the Spirit (pneuma) of the Lord is, there is liberty.

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit (pneuma) of the LORD.
