મથિઃ 12
1 અનન્તરં યીશુ ર્વિશ્રામવારે શ્સ્યમધ્યેન ગચ્છતિ, તદા તચ્છિષ્યા બુભુક્ષિતાઃ સન્તઃ શ્સ્યમઞ્જરીશ્છત્વા છિત્વા ખાદિતુમારભન્ત|
At that time Jesus was going, on the Sabbath, through the fields of grain; and his disciples were hungry, and began to pull the ears of grain, and to eat.
2 તદ્ વિલોક્ય ફિરૂશિનો યીશું જગદુઃ, પશ્ય વિશ્રામવારે યત્ કર્મ્માકર્ત્તવ્યં તદેવ તવ શિષ્યાઃ કુર્વ્વન્તિ|
But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him: Behold, your disciples are doing what it is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.
3 સ તાન્ પ્રત્યાવદત, દાયૂદ્ તત્સઙ્ગિનશ્ચ બુભુક્ષિતાઃ સન્તો યત્ કર્મ્માકુર્વ્વન્ તત્ કિં યુષ્માભિ ર્નાપાઠિ?
But he said to them: Have you not read what David did, when he and those who were with him were hungry?
4 યે દર્શનીયાઃ પૂપાઃ યાજકાન્ વિના તસ્ય તત્સઙ્ગિમનુજાનાઞ્ચાભોજનીયાસ્ત ઈશ્વરાવાસં પ્રવિષ્ટેન તેન ભુક્તાઃ|
how he entered the house of God, and ate the loaves of the presence, which it was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but for the priests only?
5 અન્યચ્ચ વિશ્રામવારે મધ્યેમન્દિરં વિશ્રામવારીયં નિયમં લઙ્વન્તોપિ યાજકા નિર્દોષા ભવન્તિ, શાસ્ત્રમધ્યે કિમિદમપિ યુષ્માભિ ર્ન પઠિતં?
Or, have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath-days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless?
6 યુષ્માનહં વદામિ, અત્ર સ્થાને મન્દિરાદપિ ગરીયાન્ એક આસ્તે|
But I say to you, that something greater than the temple is here.
7 કિન્તુ દયાયાં મે યથા પ્રીતિ ર્ન તથા યજ્ઞકર્મ્મણિ| એતદ્વચનસ્યાર્થં યદિ યુયમ્ અજ્ઞાસિષ્ટ તર્હિ નિર્દોષાન્ દોષિણો નાકાર્ષ્ટ|
But if you had known what this means―I desire mercy, and not sacrifice―you would not have condemned the blameless.
8 અન્યચ્ચ મનુજસુતો વિશ્રામવારસ્યાપિ પતિરાસ્તે|
For the Son of man is Lord of the Sabbath.
9 અનન્તરં સ તત્સ્થાનાત્ પ્રસ્થાય તેષાં ભજનભવનં પ્રવિષ્ટવાન્, તદાનીમ્ એકઃ શુષ્કકરામયવાન્ ઉપસ્થિતવાન્|
And he departed thence, and went into their synagogue.
10 તતો યીશુમ્ અપવદિતું માનુષાઃ પપ્રચ્છુઃ, વિશ્રામવારે નિરામયત્વં કરણીયં ન વા?
And behold, a man was there that had a withered hand. And they asked him, saying: Is it lawful to cure on the Sabbath-days? that they might accuse him.
11 તેન સ પ્રત્યુવાચ, વિશ્રામવારે યદિ કસ્યચિદ્ અવિ ર્ગર્ત્તે પતતિ, તર્હિ યસ્તં ઘૃત્વા ન તોલયતિ, એતાદૃશો મનુજો યુષ્માકં મધ્યે ક આસ્તે?
And he said to them: What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if this fall into a pit on the Sabbath-day, will he not lay hold on it and lift it out?
12 અવે ર્માનવઃ કિં નહિ શ્રેયાન્? અતો વિશ્રામવારે હિતકર્મ્મ કર્ત્તવ્યં|
How much better, then, is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath-days.
13 અનન્તરં સ તં માનવં ગદિતવાન્, કરં પ્રસારય; તેન કરે પ્રસારિતે સોન્યકરવત્ સ્વસ્થોઽભવત્|
Then he said to the man: Stretch forth your hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored to soundness, like the other.
14 તદા ફિરૂશિનો બહિર્ભૂય કથં તં હનિષ્યામ ઇતિ કુમન્ત્રણાં તત્પ્રાતિકૂલ્યેન ચક્રુઃ|
But the Pharisees went out and took counsel against him, that they might destroy him.
15 તતો યીશુસ્તદ્ વિદિત્વા સ્થનાન્તરં ગતવાન્; અન્યેષુ બહુનરેષુ તત્પશ્ચાદ્ ગતેષુ તાન્ સ નિરામયાન્ કૃત્વા ઇત્યાજ્ઞાપયત્,
But Jesus perceived it, and withdrew from that place. And many multitudes followed him, and he cured them all.
16 યૂયં માં ન પરિચાયયત|
And he charged them not to make him known;
17 તસ્માત્ મમ પ્રીયો મનોનીતો મનસસ્તુષ્ટિકારકઃ| મદીયઃ સેવકો યસ્તુ વિદ્યતે તં સમીક્ષતાં| તસ્યોપરિ સ્વકીયાત્મા મયા સંસ્થાપયિષ્યતે| તેનાન્યદેશજાતેષુ વ્યવસ્થા સંપ્રકાશ્યતે|
that the word might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:
18 કેનાપિ ન વિરોધં સ વિવાદઞ્ચ કરિષ્યતિ| ન ચ રાજપથે તેન વચનં શ્રાવયિષ્યતે|
Be hold, my servant whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul delights. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he shall declare law to the Gentiles.
19 વ્યવસ્થા ચલિતા યાવત્ નહિ તેન કરિષ્યતે| તાવત્ નલો વિદીર્ણોઽપિ ભંક્ષ્યતે નહિ તેન ચ| તથા સધૂમવર્ત્તિઞ્ચ ન સ નિર્વ્વાપયિષ્યતે|
He shall not contend, nor cry out; nor shall any one hear his voice in the streets.
20 પ્રત્યાશાઞ્ચ કરિષ્યન્તિ તન્નામ્નિ ભિન્નદેશજાઃ|
A bruised reed he shall not break, and a smoking wick he shall not extinguish, till he shall send forth his law for conquest.
21 યાન્યેતાનિ વચનાનિ યિશયિયભવિષ્યદ્વાદિના પ્રોક્તાન્યાસન્, તાનિ સફલાન્યભવન્|
And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.
22 અનન્તરં લોકૈ સ્તત્સમીપમ્ આનીતો ભૂતગ્રસ્તાન્ધમૂકૈકમનુજસ્તેન સ્વસ્થીકૃતઃ, તતઃ સોઽન્ધો મૂકો દ્રષ્ટું વક્તુઞ્ચારબ્ધવાન્|
Then was brought to him a demoniac, blind and dumb: and he cured him, so that the blind and dumb man both spoke and saw.
23 અનેન સર્વ્વે વિસ્મિતાઃ કથયાઞ્ચક્રુઃ, એષઃ કિં દાયૂદઃ સન્તાનો નહિ?
And all the people were amazed, and said: Is not this the son of David?
24 કિન્તુ ફિરૂશિનસ્તત્ શ્રુત્વા ગદિતવન્તઃ, બાલ્સિબૂબ્નામ્નો ભૂતરાજસ્ય સાહાય્યં વિના નાયં ભૂતાન્ ત્યાજયતિ|
But the Pharisees, when they heard it, said: This man does not cast out the demons, unless by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons.
25 તદાનીં યીશુસ્તેષામ્ ઇતિ માનસં વિજ્ઞાય તાન્ અવદત્ કિઞ્ચન રાજ્યં યદિ સ્વવિપક્ષાદ્ ભિદ્યતે, તર્હિ તત્ ઉચ્છિદ્યતે; યચ્ચ કિઞ્ચન નગરં વા ગૃહં સ્વવિપક્ષાદ્ વિભિદ્યતે, તત્ સ્થાતું ન શક્નોતિ|
But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said to them: Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation. And no city or house divided against itself shall stand.
26 તદ્વત્ શયતાનો યદિ શયતાનં બહિઃ કૃત્વા સ્વવિપક્ષાત્ પૃથક્ પૃથક્ ભવતિ, તર્હિ તસ્ય રાજ્યં કેન પ્રકારેણ સ્થાસ્યતિ?
And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then shall his kingdom stand?
27 અહઞ્ચ યદિ બાલ્સિબૂબા ભૂતાન્ ત્યાજયામિ, તર્હિ યુષ્માકં સન્તાનાઃ કેન ભૂતાન્ ત્યાજયન્તિ? તસ્માદ્ યુષ્માકમ્ એતદ્વિચારયિતારસ્ત એવ ભવિષ્યન્તિ|
And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? For this reason, they shall be your judges.
28 કિન્તવહં યદીશ્વરાત્મના ભૂતાન્ ત્યાજયામિ, તર્હીશ્વરસ્ય રાજ્યં યુષ્માકં સન્નિધિમાગતવત્|
But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has already come upon you.
29 અન્યઞ્ચ કોપિ બલવન્ત જનં પ્રથમતો ન બદ્વ્વા કેન પ્રકારેણ તસ્ય ગૃહં પ્રવિશ્ય તદ્દ્રવ્યાદિ લોઠયિતું શક્નોતિ? કિન્તુ તત્ કૃત્વા તદીયગૃસ્ય દ્રવ્યાદિ લોઠયિતું શક્નોતિ|
Or, how can any one enter the house of the strong man and spoil his goods, unless he first bind the strong man? and then he will plunder his house.
30 યઃ કશ્ચિત્ મમ સ્વપક્ષીયો નહિ સ વિપક્ષીય આસ્તે, યશ્ચ મયા સાકં ન સંગૃહ્લાતિ, સ વિકિરતિ|
He that is not with me, is against me; and he that gathers not with me, scatters.
31 અતએવ યુષ્માનહં વદામિ, મનુજાનાં સર્વ્વપ્રકારપાપાનાં નિન્દાયાશ્ચ મર્ષણં ભવિતું શક્નોતિ, કિન્તુ પવિત્રસ્યાત્મનો વિરુદ્ધનિન્દાયા મર્ષણં ભવિતું ન શક્નોતિ|
Therefore I say to you, That every sin and impious speech shad be forgiven men: but the impious speech against the Spirit shall not be forgiven men.
32 યો મનુજસુતસ્ય વિરુદ્ધાં કથાં કથયતિ, તસ્યાપરાધસ્ય ક્ષમા ભવિતું શક્નોતિ, કિન્તુ યઃ કશ્ચિત્ પવિત્રસ્યાત્મનો વિરુદ્ધાં કથાં કથયતિ નેહલોકે ન પ્રેત્ય તસ્યાપરાધસ્ય ક્ષમા ભવિતું શક્નોતિ| (aiōn g165)
And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in the present age, or in that which is to come. (aiōn g165)
33 પાદપં યદિ ભદ્રં વદથ, તર્હિ તસ્ય ફલમપિ સાધુ વક્તવ્યં, યદિ ચ પાદપં અસાધું વદથ, તર્હિ તસ્ય ફલમપ્યસાધુ વક્તવ્યં; યતઃ સ્વીયસ્વીયફલેન પાદપઃ પરિચીયતે|
Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or make the tree unsound, and its fruit unsound. For by the fruit the tree is known.
34 રે ભુજગવંશા યૂયમસાધવઃ સન્તઃ કથં સાધુ વાક્યં વક્તું શક્ષ્યથ? યસ્માદ્ અન્તઃકરણસ્ય પૂર્ણભાવાનુસારાદ્ વદનાદ્ વચો નિર્ગચ્છતિ|
Generation of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.
35 તેન સાધુર્માનવોઽન્તઃકરણરૂપાત્ સાધુભાણ્ડાગારાત્ સાધુ દ્રવ્યં નિર્ગમયતિ, અસાધુર્માનુષસ્ત્વસાધુભાણ્ડાગારાદ્ અસાધુવસ્તૂનિ નિર્ગમયતિ|
The good man, out of his good treasury, brings forth good things; and the evil man, out of his evil treasury, brings forth evil things.
36 કિન્ત્વહં યુષ્માન્ વદામિ, મનુજા યાવન્ત્યાલસ્યવચાંસિ વદન્તિ, વિચારદિને તદુત્તરમવશ્યં દાતવ્યં,
But I say to you, That for every idle word which men speak, they shall give account in the day of judgment.
37 યતસ્ત્વં સ્વીયવચોભિ ર્નિરપરાધઃ સ્વીયવચોભિશ્ચ સાપરાધો ગણિષ્યસે|
For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned.
38 તદાનીં કતિપયા ઉપાધ્યાયાઃ ફિરૂશિનશ્ચ જગદુઃ, હે ગુરો વયં ભવત્તઃ કિઞ્ચન લક્ષ્મ દિદૃક્ષામઃ|
Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered and said: Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.
39 તદા સ પ્રત્યુક્તવાન્, દુષ્ટો વ્યભિચારી ચ વંશો લક્ષ્મ મૃગયતે, કિન્તુ ભવિષ્યદ્વાદિનો યૂનસો લક્ષ્મ વિહાયાન્યત્ કિમપિ લક્ષ્મ તે ન પ્રદર્શયિષ્યન્તે|
But he answered and said to them: A wicked and adulterous generation seeks for a sign; and no sign shall be given to it, but the sign of Jonah the prophet.
40 યતો યૂનમ્ યથા ત્ર્યહોરાત્રં બૃહન્મીનસ્ય કુક્ષાવાસીત્, તથા મનુજપુત્રોપિ ત્ર્યહોરાત્રં મેદિન્યા મધ્યે સ્થાસ્યતિ|
For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
41 અપરં નીનિવીયા માનવા વિચારદિન એતદ્વંશીયાનાં પ્રતિકૂલમ્ ઉત્થાય તાન્ દોષિણઃ કરિષ્યન્તિ, યસ્માત્તે યૂનસ ઉપદેશાત્ મનાંસિ પરાવર્ત્તયાઞ્ચક્રિરે, કિન્ત્વત્ર યૂનસોપિ ગુરુતર એક આસ્તે|
Tho men of Nineveh shall rise in the judgment with this generation, and condemn it; for they repented in accordance with the preaching of Jonah; and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.
42 પુનશ્ચ દક્ષિણદેશીયા રાજ્ઞી વિચારદિન એતદ્વંશીયાનાં પ્રતિકૂલમુત્થાય તાન્ દોષિણઃ કરિષ્યતિ યતઃ સા રાજ્ઞી સુલેમનો વિદ્યાયાઃ કથાં શ્રોતું મેદિન્યાઃ સીમ્ન આગચ્છત્, કિન્તુ સુલેમનોપિ ગુરુતર એકો જનોઽત્ર આસ્તે|
The queen of the south shall rise in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it; for she came from the most distant parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.
43 અપરં મનુજાદ્ બહિર્ગતો ઽપવિત્રભૂતઃ શુષ્કસ્થાનેન ગત્વા વિશ્રામં ગવેષયતિ, કિન્તુ તદલભમાનઃ સ વક્તિ, યસ્મા; નિકેતનાદ્ આગમં, તદેવ વેશ્મ પકાવૃત્ય યામિ|
When the unclean spirit has gone out of a man, he goes through dry places seeking rest, and finds none.
44 પશ્ચાત્ સ તત્ સ્થાનમ્ ઉપસ્થાય તત્ શૂન્યં માર્જ્જિતં શોભિતઞ્ચ વિલોક્ય વ્રજન્ સ્વતોપિ દુષ્ટતરાન્ અન્યસપ્તભૂતાન્ સઙ્ગિનઃ કરોતિ|
Then he says: I will return to my house, out of which I came. And he comes and finds it empty, swept, and set in order.
45 તતસ્તે તત્ સ્થાનં પ્રવિશ્ય નિવસન્તિ, તેન તસ્ય મનુજસ્ય શેષદશા પૂર્વ્વદશાતોતીવાશુભા ભવતિ, એતેષાં દુષ્ટવંશ્યાનામપિ તથૈવ ઘટિષ્યતે|
Then he goes and takes with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in and dwell there. And the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it be with this wicked generation.
46 માનવેભ્ય એતાસાં કથનાં કથનકાલે તસ્ય માતા સહજાશ્ચ તેન સાકં કાઞ્ચિત્ કથાં કથયિતું વાઞ્છન્તો બહિરેવ સ્થિતવન્તઃ|
While he was yet speaking to the multitudes, behold, his mother and his brothers stood without, desiring to speak to him.
47 તતઃ કશ્ચિત્ તસ્મૈ કથિતવાન્, પશ્ય તવ જનની સહજાશ્ચ ત્વયા સાકં કાઞ્ચન કથાં કથયિતું કામયમાના બહિસ્તિષ્ઠન્તિ|
And some one said to him: Behold, your mother and your brothers stand without, desiring to speak to you.
48 કિન્તુ સ તં પ્રત્યવદત્, મમ કા જનની? કે વા મમ સહજાઃ?
But he answered and said to him that told him: Who is my mother? and who are my brothers?
49 પશ્ચાત્ શિષ્યાન્ પ્રતિ કરં પ્રસાર્ય્ય કથિતવાન્, પશ્ય મમ જનની મમ સહજાશ્ચૈતે;
And he stretched out his hand toward his disciples, and said: Behold my mother and my brothers.
50 યઃ કશ્ચિત્ મમ સ્વર્ગસ્થસ્ય પિતુરિષ્ટં કર્મ્મ કુરુતે, સએવ મમ ભ્રાતા ભગિની જનની ચ|
For whoever will do the will of my Father who is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
