1 anantaraM yIzu rnaukAmAruhya punaH pAramAgatya nijagrAmam Ayayau|
And he entered into a boat, and passed over, and came into his own city.
2 tataH katipayA janA EkaM pakSAghAtinaM svaTTOpari zAyayitvA tatsamIpam Anayan; tatO yIzustESAM pratItiM vijnjAya taM pakSAghAtinaM jagAda, hE putra, susthirO bhava, tava kaluSasya marSaNaM jAtam|
And, behold, they brought to him a man sick with the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said to the sick with the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins are forgiven thee.
3 tAM kathAM nizamya kiyanta upAdhyAyA manaHsu cintitavanta ESa manuja IzvaraM nindati|
And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.
4 tataH sa tESAm EtAdRzIM cintAM vijnjAya kathitavAn, yUyaM manaHsu kRta EtAdRzIM kucintAM kurutha?
And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Why think ye evil in your hearts?
5 tava pApamarSaNaM jAtaM, yadvA tvamutthAya gaccha, dvayOranayO rvAkyayOH kiM vAkyaM vaktuM sugamaM?
For which is easier, to say, Thy sins are forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?
6 kintu mEdinyAM kaluSaM kSamituM manujasutasya sAmarthyamastIti yUyaM yathA jAnItha, tadarthaM sa taM pakSAghAtinaM gaditavAn, uttiSTha, nijazayanIyaM AdAya gEhaM gaccha|
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, ( then saith he to the sick with the palsy, ) Arise, take up thy bed, and go to thy house.
7 tataH sa tatkSaNAd utthAya nijagEhaM prasthitavAn|
And he arose, and departed to his house.
8 mAnavA itthaM vilOkya vismayaM mEnirE, IzvarENa mAnavAya sAmarthyam IdRzaM dattaM iti kAraNAt taM dhanyaM babhASirE ca|
But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, who had given such power to men.
9 anantaraM yIzustatsthAnAd gacchan gacchan karasaMgrahasthAnE samupaviSTaM mathinAmAnam EkaM manujaM vilOkya taM babhASE, mama pazcAd Agaccha, tataH sa utthAya tasya pazcAd vavrAja|
And as Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the tax office: and he saith to him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.
10 tataH paraM yIzau gRhE bhOktum upaviSTE bahavaH karasaMgrAhiNaH kaluSiNazca mAnavA Agatya tEna sAkaM tasya ziSyaizca sAkam upavivizuH|
And it came to pass, as Jesus sat eating in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.
11 phirUzinastad dRSTvA tasya ziSyAn babhASirE, yuSmAkaM guruH kiM nimittaM karasaMgrAhibhiH kaluSibhizca sAkaM bhuMktE?
And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, Why eateth your Master with tax collectors and sinners?
12 yIzustat zrutvA tAn pratyavadat, nirAmayalOkAnAM cikitsakEna prayOjanaM nAsti, kintu sAmayalOkAnAM prayOjanamAstE|
But when Jesus heard that, he said to them, They that are well need not a physician, but they that are sick.
13 atO yUyaM yAtvA vacanasyAsyArthaM zikSadhvam, dayAyAM mE yathA prIti rna tathA yajnjakarmmaNi|yatO'haM dhArmmikAn AhvAtuM nAgatO'smi kintu manaH parivarttayituM pApina AhvAtum AgatO'smi|
But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
14 anantaraM yOhanaH ziSyAstasya samIpam Agatya kathayAmAsuH, phirUzinO vayanjca punaH punarupavasAmaH, kintu tava ziSyA nOpavasanti, kutaH?
Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but thy disciples fast not?
15 tadA yIzustAn avOcat yAvat sakhInAM saMggE kanyAyA varastiSThati, tAvat kiM tE vilApaM karttuM zakluvanti? kintu yadA tESAM saMggAd varaM nayanti, tAdRzaH samaya AgamiSyati, tadA tE upavatsyanti|
And Jesus said to them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then they shall fast.
16 purAtanavasanE kOpi navInavastraM na yOjayati, yasmAt tEna yOjitEna purAtanavasanaM chinatti tacchidranjca bahukutsitaM dRzyatE|
No man putteth a piece of new cloth to an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the tear is made worse.
17 anyanjca purAtanakutvAM kOpi navAnagOstanIrasaM na nidadhAti, yasmAt tathA kRtE kutU rvidIryyatE tEna gOstanIrasaH patati kutUzca nazyati; tasmAt navInAyAM kutvAM navInO gOstanIrasaH sthApyatE, tEna dvayOravanaM bhavati|
Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.
18 aparaM tEnaitatkathAkathanakAlE EkO'dhipatistaM praNamya babhASE, mama duhitA prAyENaitAvatkAlE mRtA, tasmAd bhavAnAgatya tasyA gAtrE hastamarpayatu, tEna sA jIviSyati|
While he was speaking these things to them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.
19 tadAnIM yIzuH ziSyaiH sAkam utthAya tasya pazcAd vavrAja|
And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.
20 ityanantarE dvAdazavatsarAn yAvat pradarAmayEna zIrNaikA nArI tasya pazcAd Agatya tasya vasanasya granthiM pasparza;
And, behold, a woman, who was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:
21 yasmAt mayA kEvalaM tasya vasanaM spRSTvA svAsthyaM prApsyatE, sA nArIti manasi nizcitavatI|
For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be healed.
22 tatO yIzurvadanaM parAvarttya tAM jagAda, hE kanyE, tvaM susthirA bhava, tava vizvAsastvAM svasthAmakArSIt| EtadvAkyE gaditaEva sA yOSit svasthAbhUt|
But Jesus turned himself about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee well. And the woman was healed from that hour.
23 aparaM yIzustasyAdhyakSasya gEhaM gatvA vAdakaprabhRtIn bahUn lOkAn zabdAyamAnAn vilOkya tAn avadat,
And when Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise,
24 panthAnaM tyaja, kanyEyaM nAmriyata nidritAstE; kathAmEtAM zrutvA tE tamupajahasuH|
He said to them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed at him.
25 kintu sarvvESu bahiSkRtESu sO'bhyantaraM gatvA kanyAyAH karaM dhRtavAn, tEna sOdatiSThat;
But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose.
26 tatastatkarmmaNO yazaH kRtsnaM taM dEzaM vyAptavat|
And the fame of this went abroad into all that land.
27 tataH paraM yIzustasmAt sthAnAd yAtrAM cakAra; tadA hE dAyUdaH santAna, asmAn dayasva, iti vadantau dvau janAvandhau prOcairAhUyantau tatpazcAd vavrajatuH|
And when Jesus departed from there, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us.
28 tatO yIzau gEhamadhyaM praviSTaM tAvapi tasya samIpam upasthitavantau, tadAnIM sa tau pRSTavAn karmmaitat karttuM mama sAmarthyam AstE, yuvAM kimiti pratIthaH? tadA tau pratyUcatuH, satyaM prabhO|
And when he had come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith to them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said to him, Yea, Lord.
29 tadAnIM sa tayO rlOcanAni spRzan babhASE, yuvayOH pratItyanusArAd yuvayO rmaggalaM bhUyAt| tEna tatkSaNAt tayO rnEtrANi prasannAnyabhavan,
Then he touched their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it to you.
30 pazcAd yIzustau dRPhamAjnjApya jagAda, avadhattam EtAM kathAM kOpi manujO ma jAnIyAt|
And their eyes were opened; and Jesus sternly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.
31 kintu tau prasthAya tasmin kRtsnE dEzE tasya kIrttiM prakAzayAmAsatuH|
But they, when they had departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.
32 aparaM tau bahiryAta EtasminnantarE manujA EkaM bhUtagrastamUkaM tasya samIpam AnItavantaH|
As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a demon.
33 tEna bhUtE tyAjitE sa mUkaH kathAM kathayituM prArabhata, tEna janA vismayaM vijnjAya kathayAmAsuH, isrAyElO vaMzE kadApi nEdRgadRzyata;
And when the demon was cast out, the dumb spoke: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.
34 kintu phirUzinaH kathayAnjcakruH bhUtAdhipatinA sa bhUtAn tyAjayati|
But the Pharisees said, He casteth out demons through the prince of the demons.
35 tataH paraM yIzustESAM bhajanabhavana upadizan rAjyasya susaMvAdaM pracArayan lOkAnAM yasya ya AmayO yA ca pIPAsIt, tAn zamayan zamayaMzca sarvvANi nagarANi grAmAMzca babhrAma|
And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
36 anyanjca manujAn vyAkulAn arakSakamESAniva ca tyaktAn nirIkSya tESu kAruNikaH san ziSyAn avadat,
But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they were faint, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
37 zasyAni pracurANi santi, kintu chEttAraH stOkAH|
Then saith he to his disciples, The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few;
38 kSEtraM pratyaparAn chEdakAn prahEtuM zasyasvAminaM prArthayadhvam|
Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
