1 yIzurEtAn prastAvAn samApya ziSyAnUcE,
And it happened, when Yeshua had finished all these words, that he said to his disciples,
2 yuSmAbhi rjnjAtaM dinadvayAt paraM nistAramaha upasthAsyati, tatra manujasutaH kruzEna hantuM parakarESu samarpiSyatE|
"You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified."
3 tataH paraM pradhAnayAjakAdhyApakaprAnjcaH kiyaphAnAmnO mahAyAjakasyATTAlikAyAM militvA
Then the chief priests and the scribes and the elders of the people gathered together in the court of the high priest, who was called Qayapha.
4 kEnOpAyEna yIzuM dhRtvA hantuM zaknuyuriti mantrayAnjcakruH|
They took counsel together that they might take Yeshua by deceit, and kill him.
5 kintu tairuktaM mahakAlE na dharttavyaH, dhRtE prajAnAM kalahEna bhavituM zakyatE|
But they said, "Not during the feast, lest a riot occur among the people."
6 tatO baithaniyApurE zimOnAkhyasya kuSThinO vEzmani yIzau tiSThati
Now when Yeshua was in Beth-Naiya, in the house of Shimon the leper,
7 kAcana yOSA zvEtOpalabhAjanEna mahArghyaM sugandhi tailamAnIya bhOjanAyOpavizatastasya zirObhyaSEcat|
a woman came to him having an alabaster jar of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he sat at the table.
8 kintu tadAlOkya tacchiSyaiH kupitairuktaM, kuta itthamapavyayatE?
But when the disciples saw this, they were indignant, saying, "Why this waste?
9 cEdidaM vyakrESyata, tarhi bhUrimUlyaM prApya daridrEbhyO vyatAriSyata|
For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor."
10 yIzunA tadavagatya tE samuditAH, yOSAmEnAM kutO duHkhinIM kurutha, sA mAM prati sAdhu karmmAkArSIt|
However, knowing this, Yeshua said to them, "Why do you trouble the woman? Because she has done a good work for me.
11 yuSmAkamaM samIpE daridrAH satatamEvAsatE, kintu yuSmAkamantikEhaM nAsE satataM|
For you always have the poor with you; but you do not always have me.
12 sA mama kAyOpari sugandhitailaM siktvA mama zmazAnadAnakarmmAkArSIt|
For in pouring this ointment on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.
13 atOhaM yuSmAn tathyaM vadAmi sarvvasmin jagati yatra yatraiSa susamAcAraH pracAriSyatE, tatra tatraitasyA nAryyAH smaraNArtham karmmEdaM pracAriSyatE|
Truly I tell you, wherever this Good News is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of as a memorial of her."
14 tatO dvAdazaziSyANAm ISkariyOtIyayihUdAnAmaka EkaH ziSyaH pradhAnayAjakAnAmantikaM gatvA kathitavAn,
Then one of the twelve, who was called Yehudah Sekariuta, went to the chief priests,
15 yadi yuSmAkaM karESu yIzuM samarpayAmi, tarhi kiM dAsyatha? tadAnIM tE tasmai triMzanmudrA dAtuM sthirIkRtavantaH|
and said, "What are you willing to give me, that I should deliver him to you?" They weighed out for him thirty pieces of silver.
16 sa tadArabhya taM parakarESu samarpayituM suyOgaM cESTitavAn|
From that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
17 anantaraM kiNvazUnyapUpaparvvaNaH prathamEhni ziSyA yIzum upagatya papracchuH bhavatkRtE kutra vayaM nistAramahabhOjyam AyOjayiSyAmaH? bhavataH kEcchA?
Now on the first day of unleavened bread, the disciples came to Yeshua, saying, "Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?"
18 tadA sa gaditavAn, madhyEnagaramamukapuMsaH samIpaM vrajitvA vadata, guru rgaditavAn, matkAlaH savidhaH, saha ziSyaistvadAlayE nistAramahabhOjyaM bhOkSyE|
He said, "Go into the city to a certain person, and tell him, 'The Teacher says, "My time is near. I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples."'"
19 tadA ziSyA yIzOstAdRzanidEzAnurUpakarmma vidhAya tatra nistAramahabhOjyamAsAdayAmAsuH|
The disciples did as Yeshua commanded them, and they prepared the Passover.
20 tataH sandhyAyAM satyAM dvAdazabhiH ziSyaiH sAkaM sa nyavizat|
Now when evening had come, he was reclining at the table with the twelve.
21 aparaM bhunjjAna uktavAn yuSmAn tathyaM vadAmi, yuSmAkamEkO mAM parakarESu samarpayiSyati|
As they were eating, he said, "Truly I tell you that one of you will betray me."
22 tadA tE'tIva duHkhitA EkaikazO vaktumArEbhirE, hE prabhO, sa kimahaM?
They were exceedingly sorrowful, and each began to ask him, "It is not me, is it, Lord?"
23 tataH sa jagAda, mayA sAkaM yO janO bhOjanapAtrE karaM saMkSipati, sa Eva mAM parakarESu samarpayiSyati|
He answered, "He who dipped his hand with me in the dish, the same will betray me.
24 manujasutamadhi yAdRzaM likhitamAstE, tadanurUpA tadgati rbhaviSyati; kintu yEna puMsA sa parakarESu samarpayiSyatE, hA hA cEt sa nAjaniSyata, tadA tasya kSEmamabhaviSyat|
The Son of Man goes, even as it is written of him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed. It would be better for that man if he had not been born."
25 tadA yihUdAnAmA yO janastaM parakarESu samarpayiSyati, sa uktavAn, hE gurO, sa kimahaM? tataH sa pratyuktavAn, tvayA satyaM gaditam|
Yehudah, who betrayed him, answered, "It is not me, is it, Rabbi?" He said to him, "You said it."
26 anantaraM tESAmazanakAlE yIzuH pUpamAdAyEzvarIyaguNAnanUdya bhaMktvA ziSyEbhyaH pradAya jagAda, madvapuHsvarUpamimaM gRhItvA khAdata|
As they were eating, Yeshua took bread, gave thanks for it, and broke it. He gave to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is my body."
27 pazcAt sa kaMsaM gRhlan IzvarIyaguNAnanUdya tEbhyaH pradAya kathitavAn, sarvvai ryuSmAbhiranEna pAtavyaM,
He took a cup, gave thanks, and gave to them, saying, "All of you drink it,
28 yasmAdanEkESAM pApamarSaNAya pAtitaM yanmannUtnaniyamarUpazONitaM tadEtat|
for this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
29 aparamahaM nUtnagOstanIrasaM na pAsyAmi, tAvat gOstanIphalarasaM punaH kadApi na pAsyAmi|
But I tell you that I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on, until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's Kingdom."
30 pazcAt tE gItamEkaM saMgIya jaitunAkhyagiriM gatavantaH|
When they had sung the hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
31 tadAnIM yIzustAnavOcat, asyAM rajanyAmahaM yuSmAkaM sarvvESAM vighnarUpO bhaviSyAmi, yatO likhitamAstE, "mESANAM rakSakO yastaM prahariSyAmyahaM tataH| mESANAM nivahO nUnaM pravikIrNO bhaviSyati"||
Then Yeshua said to them, "All of you will be made to stumble because of me tonight, for it is written, 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'
32 kintu zmazAnAt samutthAya yuSmAkamagrE'haM gAlIlaM gamiSyAmi|
But after I am raised up, I will go before you into Galila."
33 pitarastaM prOvAca, bhavAMzcEt sarvvESAM vighnarUpO bhavati, tathApi mama na bhaviSyati|
But Kipha answered him, "Even if all will be made to stumble because of you, I will never be made to stumble."
34 tatO yIzunA sa uktaH, tubhyamahaM tathyaM kathayAmi, yAminyAmasyAM caraNAyudhasya ravAt pUrvvaM tvaM mAM tri rnAggIkariSyasi|
Yeshua said to him, "Truly I tell you that tonight, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times."
35 tataH pitara uditavAn, yadyapi tvayA samaM marttavyaM, tathApi kadApi tvAM na nAggIkariSyAmi; tathaiva sarvvE ziSyAzcOcuH|
Kipha said to him, "Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you." All of the disciples also said likewise.
36 anantaraM yIzuH ziSyaiH sAkaM gEtzimAnInAmakaM sthAnaM prasthAya tEbhyaH kathitavAn, adaH sthAnaM gatvA yAvadahaM prArthayiSyE tAvad yUyamatrOpavizata|
Then Yeshua came with them to a place called Gadsiman, and said to his disciples, "Sit here, while I go there and pray."
37 pazcAt sa pitaraM sivadiyasutau ca sagginaH kRtvA gatavAn, zOkAkulO'tIva vyathitazca babhUva|
He took with him Kipha and the two sons of Zabedai, and began to be sorrowful and severely troubled.
38 tAnavAdIcca mRtiyAtanEva matprANAnAM yAtanA jAyatE, yUyamatra mayA sArddhaM jAgRta|
Then he said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here, and watch with me."
39 tataH sa kinjciddUraM gatvAdhOmukhaH patan prArthayAnjcakrE, hE matpitaryadi bhavituM zaknOti, tarhi kaMsO'yaM mattO dUraM yAtu; kintu madicchAvat na bhavatu, tvadicchAvad bhavatu|
He went forward a little, fell on his face, and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from me; nevertheless, not what I desire, but what you desire."
40 tataH sa ziSyAnupEtya tAn nidratO nirIkSya pitarAya kathayAmAsa, yUyaM mayA sAkaM daNPamEkamapi jAgarituM nAzankuta?
He came to the disciples, and found them sleeping, and said to Kipha, "What, could you not watch with me for one hour?
41 parIkSAyAM na patituM jAgRta prArthayadhvanjca; AtmA samudyatOsti, kintu vapu rdurbbalaM|
Watch and pray, that you do not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
42 sa dvitIyavAraM prArthayAnjcakrE, hE mattAta, na pItE yadi kaMsamidaM mattO dUraM yAtuM na zaknOti, tarhi tvadicchAvad bhavatu|
Again, a second time he went away, and prayed, saying, "My Father, if this cannot pass away unless I drink it, your desire be done."
43 sa punarEtya tAn nidratO dadarza, yatastESAM nEtrANi nidrayA pUrNAnyAsan|
He came again and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.
44 pazcAt sa tAn vihAya vrajitvA tRtIyavAraM pUrvvavat kathayan prArthitavAn|
He left them again, went away, and prayed a third time, saying the same words.
45 tataH ziSyAnupAgatya gaditavAn, sAmprataM zayAnAH kiM vizrAmyatha? pazyata, samaya upAsthAt, manujasutaH pApinAM karESu samarpyatE|
Then he came to the disciples, and said to them, "Sleep on now, and take your rest. Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
46 uttiSThata, vayaM yAmaH, yO mAM parakarESu masarpayiSyati, pazyata, sa samIpamAyAti|
Arise, let us be going. Look, he who betrays me is near."
47 EtatkathAkathanakAlE dvAdazaziSyANAmEkO yihUdAnAmakO mukhyayAjakalOkaprAcInaiH prahitAn asidhAriyaSTidhAriNO manujAn gRhItvA tatsamIpamupatasthau|
While he was still speaking, look, Yehudah, one of the twelve, came, and with him a large crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
48 asau parakarESvarpayitA pUrvvaM tAn itthaM sagkEtayAmAsa, yamahaM cumbiSyE, sO'sau manujaH, saEva yuSmAbhi rdhAryyatAM|
Now he who betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, "Whoever I kiss, he is the one. Seize him."
49 tadA sa sapadi yIzumupAgatya hE gurO, praNamAmItyuktvA taM cucumbE|
Immediately he came to Yeshua, and said, "Greetings, Rabbi." and kissed him.
50 tadA yIzustamuvAca, hE mitraM kimarthamAgatOsi? tadA tairAgatya yIzurAkramya daghrE|
Yeshua said to him, "Friend, why are you here?" Then they came and laid hands on Yeshua, and took him.
51 tatO yIzOH sagginAmEkaH karaM prasAryya kOSAdasiM bahiSkRtya mahAyAjakasya dAsamEkamAhatya tasya karNaM cicchEda|
And look, one of those who were with Yeshua stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck the servant of the high priest, and struck off his ear.
52 tatO yIzustaM jagAda, khaPgaM svasthAnE nidhEhi yatO yE yE janA asiM dhArayanti, taEvAsinA vinazyanti|
Then Yeshua said to him, "Put your sword back into its place, for all those who take the sword will die by the sword.
53 aparaM pitA yathA madantikaM svargIyadUtAnAM dvAdazavAhinItO'dhikaM prahiNuyAt mayA tamuddizyEdAnImEva tathA prArthayituM na zakyatE, tvayA kimitthaM jnjAyatE?
Or do you think that I could not ask my Father, and he would even now send me more than twelve legions of angels?
54 tathA satItthaM ghaTiSyatE dharmmapustakasya yadidaM vAkyaM tat kathaM sidhyEt?
How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that it must be so?"
55 tadAnIM yIzu rjananivahaM jagAda, yUyaM khaPgayaSTIn AdAya mAM kiM cauraM dharttumAyAtAH? ahaM pratyahaM yuSmAbhiH sAkamupavizya samupAdizaM, tadA mAM nAdharata;
In that hour Yeshua said to the crowds, "Have you come out as against a robber with swords and clubs to seize me? I sat daily in the temple teaching, and you did not arrest me.
56 kintu bhaviSyadvAdinAM vAkyAnAM saMsiddhayE sarvvamEtadabhUt|tadA sarvvE ziSyAstaM vihAya palAyanta|
But all this has happened, that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples left him, and fled.
57 anantaraM tE manujA yIzuM dhRtvA yatrAdhyApakaprAnjcaH pariSadaM kurvvanta upAvizan tatra kiyaphAnAmakamahAyAjakasyAntikaM ninyuH|
Those who had taken Yeshua led him away to Qayapha the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together.
58 kintu zESE kiM bhaviSyatIti vEttuM pitarO dUrE tatpazcAd vrajitvA mahAyAjakasyATTAlikAM pravizya dAsaiH sahita upAvizat|
But Kipha followed him from a distance, to the court of the high priest, and entered in and sat with the officers, to see the end.
59 tadAnIM pradhAnayAjakaprAcInamantriNaH sarvvE yIzuM hantuM mRSAsAkSyam alipsanta,
Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false testimony against Yeshua so they could put him to death;
60 kintu na lEbhirE| anEkESu mRSAsAkSiSvAgatESvapi tanna prApuH|
and they found none, even though many false witnesses came forward. But afterward two came forward,
61 zESE dvau mRSAsAkSiNAvAgatya jagadatuH, pumAnayamakathayat, ahamIzvaramandiraM bhaMktvA dinatrayamadhyE tannirmmAtuM zaknOmi|
and said, "This man said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.'"
62 tadA mahAyAjaka utthAya yIzum avAdIt| tvaM kimapi na prativadasi? tvAmadhi kimEtE sAkSyaM vadanti?
The high priest stood up, and said to him, "Have you no answer? What is this that these testify against you?"
63 kintu yIzu rmaunIbhUya tasyau| tatO mahAyAjaka uktavAn, tvAm amarEzvaranAmnA zapayAmi, tvamIzvarasya putrO'bhiSiktO bhavasi navEti vada|
But Yeshua held his peace. The high priest answered him, "I adjure you by the living God, that you tell us whether you are the Meshikha, the Son of God."
64 yIzuH pratyavadat, tvaM satyamuktavAn; ahaM yuSmAn tathyaM vadAmi, itaHparaM manujasutaM sarvvazaktimatO dakSiNapArzvE sthAtuM gagaNasthaM jaladharAnAruhyAyAntaM vIkSadhvE|
Yeshua said to him, "You have said it. Nevertheless, I tell you, after this you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of the sky."
65 tadA mahAyAjakO nijavasanaM chittvA jagAda, ESa IzvaraM ninditavAn, asmAkamaparasAkSyENa kiM prayOjanaM? pazyata, yUyamEvAsyAsyAd IzvaranindAM zrutavantaH,
Then the high priest tore his clothing, saying, "He has spoken blasphemy. Why do we need any more witnesses? See, now you have heard his blasphemy.
66 yuSmAbhiH kiM vivicyatE? tE pratyUcuH, vadhArhO'yaM|
What do you think?" They answered, "He is worthy of death."
67 tatO lOkaistadAsyE niSThIvitaM kEcit pratalamAhatya kEcicca capETamAhatya babhASirE,
Then they spit in his face and beat him with their fists, and some slapped him,
68 hE khrISTa tvAM kazcapETamAhatavAn? iti gaNayitvA vadAsmAn|
saying, "Prophesy to us, you Meshikha. Who hit you?"
69 pitarO bahiraggana upavizati, tadAnImEkA dAsI tamupAgatya babhASE, tvaM gAlIlIyayIzOH sahacaraEkaH|
Now Kipha was sitting outside in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him, saying, "You were also with Yeshua, the Galilean."
70 kintu sa sarvvESAM samakSam anaggIkRtyAvAdIt, tvayA yaducyatE, tadarthamahaM na vEdmi|
But he denied it before them all, saying, "I do not know what you are talking about."
71 tadA tasmin bahirdvAraM gatE 'nyA dAsI taM nirIkSya tatratyajanAnavadat, ayamapi nAsaratIyayIzunA sArddham AsIt|
And when he had gone out onto the porch, another girl saw him, and said to those who were there, "This man also was with Yeshua the Natsraya."
72 tataH sa zapathEna punaranaggIkRtya kathitavAn, taM naraM na paricinOmi|
Again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know the man."
73 kSaNAt paraM tiSThantO janA Etya pitaram avadan, tvamavazyaM tESAmEka iti tvaduccAraNamEva dyOtayati|
After a little while those who stood by came and said to Kipha, "Surely you are also one of them, for your accent makes you known."
74 kintu sO'bhizapya kathitavAn, taM janaM nAhaM paricinOmi, tadA sapadi kukkuTO rurAva|
Then he began to curse and to swear, "I do not know the man." Immediately the rooster crowed.
75 kukkuTaravAt prAk tvaM mAM trirapAhnOSyasE, yaiSA vAg yIzunAvAdi tAM pitaraH saMsmRtya bahiritvA khEdAd bhRzaM cakranda|
Kipha remembered the word which Yeshua had said, "Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times." He went out and wept bitterly.
