1 atha prabhAtE sati pradhAnayAjakAH prAnjca upAdhyAyAH sarvvE mantriNazca sabhAM kRtvA yIzuM bandhayitva pIlAtAkhyasya dEzAdhipatEH savidhaM nItvA samarpayAmAsuH|
Immediately in the morning the chief priests, with the elders and scribes, and the whole council, held a consultation, and bound Yeshua, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.
2 tadA pIlAtastaM pRSTavAn tvaM kiM yihUdIyalOkAnAM rAjA? tataH sa pratyuktavAn satyaM vadasi|
Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" He answered, "You say so."
3 aparaM pradhAnayAjakAstasya bahuSu vAkyESu dOSamArOpayAnjcakruH kintu sa kimapi na pratyuvAca|
The chief priests accused him of many things.
4 tadAnIM pIlAtastaM punaH papraccha tvaM kiM nOttarayasi? pazyaitE tvadviruddhaM katiSu sAdhyESu sAkSaM dadati|
Pilate again asked him, "Have you no answer? See how many things they testify against you."
5 kantu yIzustadApi nOttaraM dadau tataH pIlAta AzcaryyaM jagAma|
But Yeshua made no further answer, and Pilate was amazed.
6 aparanjca kArAbaddhE kastiMzcit janE tanmahOtsavakAlE lOkai ryAcitE dEzAdhipatistaM mOcayati|
Now at the feast he used to release to them one prisoner, whom they requested.
7 yE ca pUrvvamupaplavamakArSurupaplavE vadhamapi kRtavantastESAM madhyE tadAnOM barabbAnAmaka EkO baddha AsIt|
There was one called Bar-Aba, bound with those who had made insurrection, who in the insurrection had committed murder.
8 atO hEtOH pUrvvAparIyAM rItikathAM kathayitvA lOkA uccairuvantaH pIlAtasya samakSaM nivEdayAmAsuH|
And the crowd went up and began to ask him to do for them according to his custom.
9 tadA pIlAtastAnAcakhyau tarhi kiM yihUdIyAnAM rAjAnaM mOcayiSyAmi? yuSmAbhiH kimiSyatE?
Pilate answered them, saying, "Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?"
10 yataH pradhAnayAjakA IrSyAta Eva yIzuM samArpayanniti sa vivEda|
For he perceived that for envy the chief priests had delivered him up.
11 kintu yathA barabbAM mOcayati tathA prArthayituM pradhAnayAjakA lOkAn pravarttayAmAsuH|
But the chief priests stirred up the crowd, that he should release Bar-Aba to them instead.
12 atha pIlAtaH punaH pRSTavAn tarhi yaM yihUdIyAnAM rAjEti vadatha tasya kiM kariSyAmi yuSmAbhiH kimiSyatE?
Pilate again asked them, "What then should I do to him whom you call the King of the Jews?"
13 tadA tE punarapi prOccaiH prOcustaM kruzE vEdhaya|
They shouted again, "Crucify him."
14 tasmAt pIlAtaH kathitavAn kutaH? sa kiM kukarmma kRtavAn? kintu tE punazca ruvantO vyAjahrustaM kruzE vEdhaya|
Pilate said to them, "Why, what evil has he done?" But they shouted all the louder, "Crucify him."
15 tadA pIlAtaH sarvvAllOkAn tOSayitumicchan barabbAM mOcayitvA yIzuM kazAbhiH prahRtya kruzE vEddhuM taM samarpayAmbabhUva|
Pilate, wishing to please the crowd, released Bar-Aba to them, and handed over Yeshua, when he had flogged him, to be crucified.
16 anantaraM sainyagaNO'TTAlikAm arthAd adhipatE rgRhaM yIzuM nItvA sEnAnivahaM samAhuyat|
The soldiers led him away within the court, which is the Praetorium; and they called together the whole cohort.
17 pazcAt tE taM dhUmalavarNavastraM paridhApya kaNTakamukuTaM racayitvA zirasi samArOpya
They clothed him with purple, and weaving a crown of thorns, they put it on him.
18 hE yihUdIyAnAM rAjan namaskAra ityuktvA taM namaskarttAmArEbhirE|
They began to salute him, "Greetings, King of the Jews."
19 tasyOttamAggE vEtrAghAtaM cakrustadgAtrE niSThIvanjca nicikSipuH, tathA tasya sammukhE jAnupAtaM praNOmuH
They struck his head with a reed, and spat on him, and bowing their knees, did homage to him.
20 itthamupahasya dhUmravarNavastram uttAryya tasya vastraM taM paryyadhApayan kruzE vEddhuM bahirninyuzca|
When they had mocked him, they took the purple off of him, and put his own garments on him. They led him out to crucify him.
21 tataH paraM sEkandarasya ruphasya ca pitA zimOnnAmA kurINIyalOka EkaH kutazcid grAmAdEtya pathi yAti taM tE yIzOH kruzaM vOPhuM balAd dadhnuH|
And they forced one passing by, Shimon of Qurinaya, coming from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to go with them, that he might carry his cross.
22 atha gulgaltA arthAt ziraHkapAlanAmakaM sthAnaM yIzumAnIya
And they brought him to the place called Gagulta, which is translated, "The place of a skull."
23 tE gandharasamizritaM drAkSArasaM pAtuM tasmai daduH kintu sa na jagrAha|
They offered him wine mixed with myrrh to drink, but he did not take it.
24 tasmin kruzE viddhE sati tESAmEkaikazaH kiM prApsyatIti nirNayAya
Crucifying him, they parted his garments among them, casting lots on them, what each should take.
25 tasya paridhEyAnAM vibhAgArthaM guTikApAtaM cakruH|
It was nine in the morning, and they crucified him.
26 aparam ESa yihUdIyAnAM rAjEti likhitaM dOSapatraM tasya ziraUrdvvam ArOpayAnjcakruH|
The superscription of his accusation was written over him, "THE KING OF THE JEWS."
27 tasya vAmadakSiNayO rdvau caurau kruzayO rvividhAtE|
With him they crucified two robbers; one on his right hand, and one on his left.
28 tEnaiva "aparAdhijanaiH sArddhaM sa gaNitO bhaviSyati," iti zAstrOktaM vacanaM siddhamabhUta|
And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "And he was numbered with transgressors."
29 anantaraM mArgE yE yE lOkA gamanAgamanE cakrustE sarvva Eva zirAMsyAndOlya nindantO jagaduH, rE mandiranAzaka rE dinatrayamadhyE tannirmmAyaka,
Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads, and saying, "Ha. You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days,
30 adhunAtmAnam avitvA kruzAdavarOha|
save yourself and come down from the cross."
31 kinjca pradhAnayAjakA adhyApakAzca tadvat tiraskRtya parasparaM cacakSirE ESa parAnAvat kintu svamavituM na zaknOti|
Likewise, also the chief priests mocking among themselves with the scribes said, "He saved others. He cannot save himself.
32 yadIsrAyElO rAjAbhiSiktastrAtA bhavati tarhyadhunaina kruzAdavarOhatu vayaM tad dRSTvA vizvasiSyAmaH; kinjca yau lOkau tEna sArddhaM kruzE 'vidhyEtAM tAvapi taM nirbhartsayAmAsatuH|
Let the Meshikha, the King of Israyel, now come down from the cross, that we may see and believe him." Those who were crucified with him insulted him.
33 atha dvitIyayAmAt tRtIyayAmaM yAvat sarvvO dEzaH sAndhakArObhUt|
Now when it was noon, there was darkness over the whole land until three in the afternoon.
34 tatastRtIyapraharE yIzuruccairavadat ElI ElI lAmA zivaktanI arthAd "hE madIza madIza tvaM paryyatyAkSIH kutO hi mAM?"
Then at three in the afternoon Yeshua called out with a loud voice, saying, "Elohi, Elohi, lema shabachthani?" which is translated, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
35 tadA samIpasthalOkAnAM kEcit tadvAkyaM nizamyAcakhyuH pazyaiSa Eliyam AhUyati|
Some of those who stood by, when they heard it, said, "Look, he is calling for Eliya."
36 tata EkO janO dhAvitvAgatya spanjjE 'mlarasaM pUrayitvA taM naPAgrE nidhAya pAtuM tasmai dattvAvadat tiSTha Eliya EnamavarOhayitum Eti na vEti pazyAmi|
One ran, and filling a sponge full of vinegar, put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink, saying, "Let him be. Let us see whether Eliya comes to take him down."
37 atha yIzuruccaiH samAhUya prANAn jahau|
Yeshua gave a loud cry, and gave up the spirit.
38 tadA mandirasya javanikOrdvvAdadhaHryyantA vidIrNA dvikhaNPAbhUt|
The veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom.
39 kinjca itthamuccairAhUya prANAn tyajantaM taM dRSdvA tadrakSaNAya niyuktO yaH sEnApatirAsIt sOvadat narOyam Izvaraputra iti satyam|
And when the centurion, who stood by opposite him, saw that he cried out like this and breathed his last, he said, "Truly this man was the Son of God."
40 tadAnIM magdalInI marisam kaniSThayAkUbO yOsEzca mAtAnyamariyam zAlOmI ca yAH striyO
There were also women watching from afar, among whom were both Maryam Magdelaitha, and Maryam the mother of Yaquv the younger and of Yusi, and Shalom;
41 gAlIlpradEzE yIzuM sEvitvA tadanugAminyO jAtA imAstadanyAzca yA anEkA nAryO yIzunA sArddhaM yirUzAlamamAyAtAstAzca dUrAt tAni dadRzuH|
who, when he was in Galila, followed him, and served him; and many other women who came up with him to Urishlim.
42 athAsAdanadinasyArthAd vizrAmavArAt pUrvvadinasya sAyaMkAla Agata
When evening had now come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath,
43 IzvararAjyApEkSyarimathIyayUSaphanAmA mAnyamantrI samEtya pIlAtasavidhaM nirbhayO gatvA yIzOrdEhaM yayAcE|
Yauseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member who also himself was looking for the Kingdom of God, came. He boldly went in to Pilate, and asked for the body of Yeshua.
44 kintu sa idAnIM mRtaH pIlAta ityasambhavaM matvA zatasEnApatimAhUya sa kadA mRta iti papraccha|
Pilate was surprised that he was already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he had been dead long.
45 zatasEmanApatimukhAt tajjnjAtvA yUSaphE yIzOrdEhaM dadau|
When he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Yauseph.
46 pazcAt sa sUkSmaM vAsaH krItvA yIzOH kAyamavarOhya tEna vAsasA vESTAyitvA girau khAtazmazAnE sthApitavAn pASANaM lOThayitvA dvAri nidadhE|
He bought a linen cloth, and taking him down, wound him in the linen cloth, and placed him in a tomb which had been cut out of a rock. He rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.
47 kintu yatra sOsthApyata tata magdalInI mariyam yOsimAtRmariyam ca dadRzatRH|
Maryam of Magdelaitha and Maryam, the mother of Yusi, saw where he was placed.
