1 aparanjca lOkairaklAntai rnirantaraM prArthayitavyam ityAzayEna yIzunA dRSTAnta EkaH kathitaH|
He also spoke a parable to them that they must always pray, and not give up,
2 kutracinnagarE kazcit prAPvivAka AsIt sa IzvarAnnAbibhEt mAnuSAMzca nAmanyata|
saying, "There was a judge in a certain city who did not fear God, and did not respect people.
3 atha tatpuravAsinI kAcidvidhavA tatsamIpamEtya vivAdinA saha mama vivAdaM pariSkurvviti nivEdayAmAsa|
A widow was in that city, and she often came to him, saying, 'Give me justice against my adversary.'
4 tataH sa prAPvivAkaH kiyaddinAni na tadaggIkRtavAn pazcAccittE cintayAmAsa, yadyapIzvarAnna bibhEmi manuSyAnapi na manyE
He would not for a while, but afterward he said to himself, 'Though I neither fear God, nor respect people,
5 tathApyESA vidhavA mAM kliznAti tasmAdasyA vivAdaM pariSkariSyAmi nOcEt sA sadAgatya mAM vyagraM kariSyati|
yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her justice, or else she will wear me out by her continual coming.'"
6 pazcAt prabhuravadad asAvanyAyaprAPvivAkO yadAha tatra manO nidhadhvaM|
The Lord said, "Listen to what the unrighteous judge says.
7 Izvarasya yE 'bhirucitalOkA divAnizaM prArthayantE sa bahudinAni vilambyApi tESAM vivAdAn kiM na pariSkariSyati?
Won't God avenge his chosen ones, who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them?
8 yuSmAnahaM vadAmi tvarayA pariSkariSyati, kintu yadA manuSyaputra AgamiSyati tadA pRthivyAM kimIdRzaM vizvAsaM prApsyati?
I tell you that he will avenge them quickly. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?"
9 yE svAn dhArmmikAn jnjAtvA parAn tucchIkurvvanti EtAdRgbhyaH, kiyadbhya imaM dRSTAntaM kathayAmAsa|
He spoke also this parable to certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness, and who despised all others.
10 EkaH phirUzyaparaH karasanjcAyI dvAvimau prArthayituM mandiraM gatau|
"Two men went up into the temple to pray; one was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector.
11 tatO'sau phirUzyEkapArzvE tiSThan hE Izvara ahamanyalOkavat lOThayitAnyAyI pAradArikazca na bhavAmi asya karasanjcAyinastulyazca na, tasmAttvAM dhanyaM vadAmi|
The Pharisee stood and prayed to himself like this: 'God, I thank you, that I am not like other people, extortioners, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
12 saptasu dinESu dinadvayamupavasAmi sarvvasampattE rdazamAMzaM dadAmi ca, EtatkathAM kathayan prArthayAmAsa|
I fast twice a week. I give tithes of all that I get.'
13 kintu sa karasanjcAyi dUrE tiSThan svargaM draSTuM nEcchan vakSasi karAghAtaM kurvvan hE Izvara pApiSThaM mAM dayasva, itthaM prArthayAmAsa|
But the tax collector, standing far away, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner.'
14 yuSmAnahaM vadAmi, tayOrdvayO rmadhyE kEvalaH karasanjcAyI puNyavattvEna gaNitO nijagRhaM jagAma, yatO yaH kazcit svamunnamayati sa nAmayiSyatE kintu yaH kazcit svaM namayati sa unnamayiSyatE|
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."
15 atha zizUnAM gAtrasparzArthaM lOkAstAn tasya samIpamAninyuH ziSyAstad dRSTvAnEtRn tarjayAmAsuH,
Now they were also bringing their babies to him, that he might touch them. But when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
16 kintu yIzustAnAhUya jagAda, mannikaTam AgantuM zizUn anujAnIdhvaM tAMzca mA vArayata; yata IzvararAjyAdhikAriNa ESAM sadRzAH|
Yeshua summoned them, saying, "Allow the little children to come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
17 ahaM yuSmAn yathArthaM vadAmi, yO janaH zizOH sadRzO bhUtvA IzvararAjyaM na gRhlAti sa kEnApi prakArENa tat pravESTuM na zaknOti|
Truly, I tell you, whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God like a little child, he will in no way enter into it."
18 aparam EkOdhipatistaM papraccha, hE paramagurO, anantAyuSaH prAptayE mayA kiM karttavyaM? (aiōnios g166)
A certain ruler asked him, saying, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit everlasting life?" (aiōnios g166)
19 yIzuruvAca, mAM kutaH paramaM vadasi? IzvaraM vinA kOpi paramO na bhavati|
Yeshua asked him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good, except one—God.
20 paradArAn mA gaccha, naraM mA jahi, mA cOraya, mithyAsAkSyaM mA dEhi, mAtaraM pitaranjca saMmanyasva, EtA yA AjnjAH santi tAstvaM jAnAsi|
You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery,' 'Do not murder,' 'Do not steal,' 'Do not give false testimony,' 'Honor your father and your mother.'"
21 tadA sa uvAca, bAlyakAlAt sarvvA EtA AcarAmi|
And he said, "I have kept all these things from my youth up."
22 iti kathAM zrutvA yIzustamavadat, tathApi tavaikaM karmma nyUnamAstE, nijaM sarvvasvaM vikrIya daridrEbhyO vitara, tasmAt svargE dhanaM prApsyasi; tata Agatya mamAnugAmI bhava|
When Yeshua heard it, he said to him, "You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have, and distribute it to the poor. You will have treasure in heaven. Come, follow me."
23 kintvEtAM kathAM zrutvA sOdhipatiH zuzOca, yatastasya bahudhanamAsIt|
But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was very rich.
24 tadA yIzustamatizOkAnvitaM dRSTvA jagAda, dhanavatAm IzvararAjyapravEzaH kIdRg duSkaraH|
And Yeshua looked at him and said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter into the Kingdom of God.
25 IzvararAjyE dhaninaH pravEzAt sUcEzchidrENa mahAggasya gamanAgamanE sukarE|
For it is easier for a camel to enter in through a needle's eye, than for a rich person to enter into the Kingdom of God."
26 zrOtAraH papracchustarhi kEna paritrANaM prApsyatE?
Those who heard it said, "Then who can be saved?"
27 sa uktavAn, yan mAnuSENAzakyaM tad IzvarENa zakyaM|
But he said, "The things which are impossible with man are possible with God."
28 tadA pitara uvAca, pazya vayaM sarvvasvaM parityajya tava pazcAdgAminO'bhavAma|
And Kipha said, "Look, we have left our own things and followed you."
29 tataH sa uvAca, yuSmAnahaM yathArthaM vadAmi, IzvararAjyArthaM gRhaM pitarau bhrAtRgaNaM jAyAM santAnAMzca tyaktavA
He said to them, "Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or wife, or brothers, or parents, or children, for the Kingdom of God's sake,
30 iha kAlE tatO'dhikaM parakAlE 'nantAyuzca na prApsyati lOka IdRzaH kOpi nAsti| (aiōn g165, aiōnios g166)
who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the world to come, everlasting life." (aiōn g165, aiōnios g166)
31 anantaraM sa dvAdazaziSyAnAhUya babhASE, pazyata vayaM yirUzAlamnagaraM yAmaH, tasmAt manuSyaputrE bhaviSyadvAdibhiruktaM yadasti tadanurUpaM taM prati ghaTiSyatE;
He took the twelve aside, and said to them, "Look, we are going up to Urishlim, and all the things that are written through the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be completed.
32 vastutastu sO'nyadEzIyAnAM hastESu samarpayiSyatE, tE tamupahasiSyanti, anyAyamAcariSyanti tadvapuSi niSThIvaM nikSEpsyanti, kazAbhiH prahRtya taM haniSyanti ca,
For he will be delivered up to the non-Jews, will be mocked, treated shamefully, and spit on.
33 kintu tRtIyadinE sa zmazAnAd utthAsyati|
They will scourge and kill him. On the third day, he will rise again."
34 EtasyAH kathAyA abhiprAyaM kinjcidapi tE bOddhuM na zEkuH tESAM nikaTE'spaSTatavAt tasyaitAsAM kathAnAm AzayaM tE jnjAtuM na zEkuzca|
They understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not understand the things that were said.
35 atha tasmin yirIhOH purasyAntikaM prAptE kazcidandhaH pathaH pArzva upavizya bhikSAm akarOt
It happened, as he came near Irikhu, a certain blind man sat by the road, begging.
36 sa lOkasamUhasya gamanazabdaM zrutvA tatkAraNaM pRSTavAn|
Hearing a crowd going by, he asked what this meant.
37 nAsaratIyayIzuryAtIti lOkairuktE sa uccairvaktumArEbhE,
They told him that Yeshua of Natsrath was passing by.
38 hE dAyUdaH santAna yIzO mAM dayasva|
He called out, "Yeshua, Son of Dawid, have mercy on me."
39 tatOgragAminastaM maunI tiSThEti tarjayAmAsuH kintu sa punAruvan uvAca, hE dAyUdaH santAna mAM dayasva|
Those who led the way rebuked him, that he should be quiet; but he shouted all the more, "Son of Dawid, have mercy on me."
40 tadA yIzuH sthagitO bhUtvA svAntikE tamAnEtum AdidEza|
Standing still, Yeshua commanded him to be brought to him. When he had come near, he asked him,
41 tataH sa tasyAntikam Agamat, tadA sa taM papraccha, tvaM kimicchasi? tvadarthamahaM kiM kariSyAmi? sa uktavAn, hE prabhO'haM draSTuM labhai|
"What do you want me to do?" He said, "Lord, that I may see again."
42 tadA yIzuruvAca, dRSTizaktiM gRhANa tava pratyayastvAM svasthaM kRtavAn|
Yeshua said to him, "Receive your sight. Your faith has healed you."
43 tatastatkSaNAt tasya cakSuSI prasannE; tasmAt sa IzvaraM dhanyaM vadan tatpazcAd yayau, tadAlOkya sarvvE lOkA IzvaraM prazaMsitum ArEbhirE|
And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God. All the people, when they saw it, praised God.
