1 anantaraM trutIyadivasE gAlIl pradEziyE kAnnAnAmni nagarE vivAha AsIt tatra ca yIzOrmAtA tiSThat|
And, on the third day, a marriage, took place, in Cana, of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there, —
2 tasmai vivAhAya yIzustasya ziSyAzca nimantritA Asan|
and Jesus also was invited, with his disciples, unto the marriage.
3 tadanantaraM drAkSArasasya nyUnatvAd yIzOrmAtA tamavadat EtESAM drAkSArasO nAsti|
And, wine falling short, the mother of Jesus saith unto him—Wine, have they none!
4 tadA sa tAmavOcat hE nAri mayA saha tava kiM kAryyaM? mama samaya idAnIM nOpatiSThati|
And Jesus saith unto her—What part can I take with thee, O woman? Not yet, hath come, mine hour.
5 tatastasya mAtA dAsAnavOcad ayaM yad vadati tadEva kuruta|
His mother saith unto them who are ministering—Whatsoever he may say to you, do!
6 tasmin sthAnE yihUdIyAnAM zucitvakaraNavyavahArAnusArENAPhakaikajaladharANi pASANamayAni SaPvRhatpAtrANiAsan|
Now there were there, six stone water-vessels, placed, according to the purification of the Jews; holding each, two or three measures.
7 tadA yIzustAn sarvvakalazAn jalaiH pUrayituM tAnAjnjApayat, tatastE sarvvAn kumbhAnAkarNaM jalaiH paryyapUrayan|
Jesus saith unto them—Fill the vessels with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
8 atha tEbhyaH kinjciduttAryya bhOjyAdhipAtEHsamIpaM nEtuM sa tAnAdizat, tE tadanayan|
And he saith unto them—Draw out now, and be bearing unto the master of the feast. And they bare.
9 aparanjca tajjalaM kathaM drAkSArasO'bhavat tajjalavAhakAdAsA jnjAtuM zaktAH kintu tadbhOjyAdhipO jnjAtuM nAzaknOt tadavalihya varaM saMmbOdyAvadata,
And, when the master of the feast had tasted the water, now made, wine, and knew not whence it was, —though, they who were ministering, knew, even they who had drawn out the water, the master accosteth the bridegroom,
10 lOkAH prathamaM uttamadrAkSArasaM dadati taSu yathESTaM pitavatsu tasmA kinjcidanuttamanjca dadati kintu tvamidAnIM yAvat uttamadrAkSArasaM sthApayasi|
and saith unto him—Every man, first the good wine, setteth out; and, when they had been well-supplied, the inferior: —Thou, hast kept the good wine until, even now.
11 itthaM yIzurgAlIlapradEzE AzcaryyakArmma prArambha nijamahimAnaM prAkAzayat tataH ziSyAstasmin vyazvasan|
This, beginning of his signs, did Jesus, in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
12 tataH param sa nijamAtrubhrAtrusziSyaiH sArddhM kapharnAhUmam Agamat kintu tatra bahUdinAni AtiSThat|
After this, he came down into Capernaum, —he, and his mother and brethren, and his disciples; and, there, they abode, not many days.
13 tadanantaraM yihUdiyAnAM nistArOtsavE nikaTamAgatE yIzu ryirUzAlam nagaram Agacchat|
And, near, was the passover of the Jews; and, Jesus, went up unto Jerusalem.
14 tatO mandirasya madhyE gOmESapArAvatavikrayiNO vANijakScOpaviSTAn vilOkya
And he found, in the temple, them that were selling oxen and sheep and doves, also the money-changers sitting.
15 rajjubhiH kazAM nirmmAya sarvvagOmESAdibhiH sArddhaM tAn mandirAd dUrIkRtavAn|
And, making a scourge out of rushes, all of them, thrust he forth out of the temple, both the sheep and the oxen; and, the money-changers’ small coins, poured he forth, and, the tables, he overturned;
16 vaNijAM mudrAdi vikIryya AsanAni nyUbjIkRtya pArAvatavikrayibhyO'kathayad asmAt sthAnAt sarvANyEtAni nayata, mama pitugRhaM vANijyagRhaM mA kArSTa|
and unto them who were selling, the doves, he said—Take these things hence! Be not making, the house of my Father, a house of merchandise.
17 tasmAt tanmandirArtha udyOgO yastu sa grasatIva mAm| imAM zAstrIyalipiM ziSyAHsamasmaran|
His disciples remembered that it was written—The zeal of thy house, eateth me up.
18 tataH param yihUdIyalOkA yISimavadan tavamidRzakarmmakaraNAt kiM cihnamasmAn darzayasi?
The Jews therefore answered, and said unto him, What sign, dost thou point out to us, in that, these things, thou doest?
19 tatO yIzustAnavOcad yuSmAbhirE tasmin mandirE nAzitE dinatrayamadhyE'haM tad utthApayiSyAmi|
Jesus answered, and said unto them—Take down this shrine, and, in three days, will I raise it.
20 tadA yihUdiyA vyAhArSuH, Etasya mandirasa nirmmANEna SaTcatvAriMzad vatsarA gatAH, tvaM kiM dinatrayamadhyE tad utthApayiSyasi?
The Jews, therefore, said—In forty and six years, was this shrine built. And, thou, in three days, wilt raise it!
21 kintu sa nijadEharUpamandirE kathAmimAM kathitavAn|
But, he, was speaking concerning the shrine of his body.
22 sa yadEtAdRzaM gaditavAn tacchiSyAH zmazAnAt tadIyOtthAnE sati smRtvA dharmmagranthE yIzunOktakathAyAM ca vyazvasiSuH|
When, therefore, he had been raised from among the dead, his disciples remembered, that, this, he had been saying; and they believed in the Scripture, and in the word which Jesus had spoken.
23 anantaraM nistArOtsavasya bhOjyasamayE yirUzAlam nagarE tatkrutAzcaryyakarmmANi vilOkya bahubhistasya nAmani vizvasitaM|
Now, when he was in Jerusalem, during the passover, during the feast, many, believed on his name, viewing his signs which he was doing.
24 kintu sa tESAM karESu svaM na samarpayat, yataH sa sarvvAnavait|
Jesus himself, however, was not trusting himself unto them, by reason of his understanding them all,
25 sa mAnavESu kasyacit pramANaM nApEkSata yatO manujAnAM madhyE yadyadasti tattat sOjAnAt|
and because he had, no need, that anyone should bear witness concerning man; for, he, understood what was in man.
